Hello
I have some ZIP scripts i would like to install(flash) via recovery but since the recovery was updated to use only edify sripts I cannot install the old-fashioned ZIPs anymore.
Could someone please guide me about how to modify the ZIPs to be ablle to install them or convert the scrtipts?

Hello, guys!
Sorry for the question, but how can I install xRecovery 2.5 or 2.6, after I've already updated to CM6-1.0.2 with CWM 3? I've read a lot of topics, that say there is need to install an earlier version of xRecovery in order to be able to install .zip applications like themes for example.
I've tried to do it with ROM Manager, it says then I've xRecovery 1.7, 2.4 or another one, and when I choose to reboot in Recovery, Clockworkmod recovery 3 appears again, instead of the version that ROM Manager has reported.
Could you please explain me how to install recovery.img manually step by step or another way to install xRecovery over CWM 3? I've tried also to install it manually by copying chargemon and busybox files in bin folder, but after that the phone can not load the system - a lot of errors appear on boot.
I'll be very thankful to you for your help!
Thanks for the "answers", guys! Over 12 hours of fishsilence, thank you very much! You all are so "helpful" here as like we all are developers and should understand from a few words in your developers' slang!
The answer of my question is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079112
Yes, right here, guys! The xRecovery for the X10 Mini Pro works on the X10 Mini! No need for complex hboots, rom managers or so - simple .apk installation and the CWM 3 turned into 1x xRecovery!
Seems that you don't know that there is a search button into the forum.
One previous page there is a post named CWM2XREC (CW Recovery to Xrecovery)
Simply a update.zip file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111075
You may use the search button or atleast look two or three pages of the local forum.
Anyway the CW supports Xrecovery backup files.
Nope, I know about it, but the problem was I was unable to istall .zip files under CWM 3 for the lack of Edify script in it.

yes you can't flash old .zip with amend script but this one allows you to flash old xrecovery above cwm (i tried myself.)
then you'll be able to flash old .zip but no more the recent with edify scripting

xrecovery backups need to be placed in cwm folder to be used
Hello All!
I am on the HK GB Firmware, Rooted & unlocked...
When I try to flash a file on my Atrix through recovery, I get the following message...
"Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the Clockwork Mod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to edify scripting (Updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted"
Does any one here have any tips as to how I can fix this issue? I'd like to install some stuff via recovery, but this is stopping me.
Thank you!!
you have to use .zips that use the EDIFY update script protocol. there are some converters out there, but ultimately it's up to whoever wrote the update script in the ZIPs you're using.
hey guys. I'm trying to work with a file that was made recently for GB AOSP roms. i'm trying to be a guinea pig and flash it on my Evo 3D since by the looks of the folder structure and files that are being modified it should theoretically work (and enable mms on my phone).
anyways, in TWRP recovery it aborts the installation without a message. using Clockwork Recovery I got a very nice message explaining that Amend scripting was deprecated in 1.5 and now it needs Edify scripting.
How difficult is it to change something from that old system to Edify? i've never used either so i'm very lost.
any help?

i was looking thru the dsixda kitchen the other day and it had a feature to convert amend to edify. worth giving a try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
edit: found another tool for converting amend to edify by googling: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903598
personally, i think its fairly simple as the commands between amend and edify are fairly similar for anybody with scripting background or android/recovery/programming background.
hope that helps!
If you post it up here I would be willing to do it. Or pm me.
i'd be glad to do it for you if you send it to me.
thanks for the replies and offers guys. i've attached the file to this post.
since I couldn't flash it, i tried following what the script would have done and did it by hand, it had no effect. nothing broke (no fc's) but also mms still won't send.
i'll give your flashables a try before I give up though.
thanks!

here, but you have a file in there that there is nothing in the amend script to copy them. so i don't know what you wanted done with them.
thanks! will give it a try.
it's not my flash file so I don't know what's there or isnt. i noticed the file you mentioned that isn't referenced in the script though. i'll see what it does.

E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted.
I tried to look for the file to rename it but could not find it
I mounted the device on PC also tried to find it but could not......
What should I do can someone help???
I looked in to the forums but it did not help that much...
What do you expect update.zip to do? Are you trying to flash a different ROM?
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
If you don't mind explaining what does this file do?
I am installing it coz its one of the steps to Root your phone

It depends. Update.zip files are/can be created by apps for many purposes. Some allow you to install the app via recovery. Others are kernels, etc.
N.B: It's not needed by all devices doing the root process.
Hi, I want to create my own custom rom, I've finish them, but I've a problem.
I don't know how to pack all the files in a flashable zip, I've make a zip with 7-zip but when I try to install it, recovery say "Installation Aborted".
Someone can explain to me how to create the zip? I've an good experience on android but I haven't already create a flashable zip...
Thanks!
Would not have a clue my friend but by reading the following threads your best bet is to go to the following links
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227549
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133846
Have a look at those links and those are the best options you have to create your own rom. Enjoy
It is possible to make a simple tutorial for me, I'm french and that's too hard to understand for me. I just need to pack in a zip file flashable. Thanks you .
Wouldn't there need to be a script to tell CW what to do with the files in the package/how to install them, etc ?
I wouldn't have a clue how to do this BTW, I'm just thinking logically around what I know about the way CW works so far as installing roms/kernels goes.

still check those links i gave you above. there must be a solution or guide to tell you how to pack a rom once you are finished putting everything together.my guess is that you do need an updater script and updater binary script something like that..check on those two links and have a look..or zip the rom using powerarchiver if you are on windows
just head over to http://perka.zapto.org and look for a empty system cwm.
Now you just have to make folders in this zip and add your files. example you want framework-res.apk and systemui.apk flashed.
So open the cwm zip and add a folders called app and a folder called framework.
The zip will be/system and so with the folders it creates /system/framework/framework-res.apk and system/app/SystemUI.apk.
You can just take the signatures from the zip and add them in your future zips or just keep copying this one.
The update script shows the screens on install so change text in there and it will show on install.
Or there is a guide to Edify Scripting here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265120
