OK, so the other night I was trying to restore to stock but I found the RUU giving me errors. I figured it out after hours of tedious work and here it is:
1. Download the latest RUU.
2. Uninstall HTC sync.
3. This is important: go into fastboot mode and using command prompt at the folder where fastboot.exe is stored, type in 'fastboot oem lock' without quotes into the window and press enter.
4. Run the RUU and follow instructions (while still in fastboot usb on phone).
tl;dr for more advanced users: you need to relock the bootloader to get the RUU to work
Hope this helps, peoples.
note: this only applies for hboot 1.5 htc unlocked people

Download the ruu. Find it in your phone and rename it pg86img. Now reboot into your hboot and wah lah. Your phone is back to stock

If you have already downloaded the exe to your pc then just plug your phone into your pc. If you phone is powered on just choose charge only from your pull down screen or when the usb window pops up. Then locate the .exe-ruu you downloaded to your pc and double click on it to run it and follow the instructions and you should be good. If you phone is powered off plug it into your pc. Then hold the volume up button and press power and and the fasboot menu should appear and it should state "fastboot usb" at the top. Then once again repeat the steps above once you located the .exe-ruu on you pc. Also make sure you have the correct ruu. Hope this helps.

I am completely lost on this simple step of the downgrade, and it's only the first step. I can put the 2.17 ruu on the SD card, boot into hboot/bootloader, phone will recognize it, scan down, and never give me the option to "update". I tried different 2.17 downloads, I tried formatting the SD card in FAT and FAT 32, the 2.17 ruu is the only file on the card, I am also assuming it has to be the zip not exe file? Anybody have a download link that worked for them? I am usually not this illiterate when it comes to this, I just want to root this phone. Oh, and I did rename it PG86IMG.zip. Any help will be greatly appreciated, as I am about to throw this phone out the window. Thanks

Your bootloader needs to be locked or relocked IMO.
Unlocked bootloader cannot update PG86IMG.zip I think.

Your Evo 3D came with 2.17 or you have took the OTA?
Try running 2.17 RUU exe then the PG86IMG.zip, this worked for some. Also check the Unknownforce's second post in the downgrading hboot thread.

It should not be unzipped, you are fine as your bootloader is detecting the zip file. just check the above post.

You can extract a rom.zip (which should be renamed to PG86IMG.zip later) from an RUU.exe
You cannot make a exe from a zip.
You cannot update exe from sdcard. Only windows can run EXEs.

The downgrading method was kinda longer than the current one when I downgraded the hboot of my 3D. The 1st step was to temproot the phone, which never worked till I used the 2.17 RUU.exe,
Did you read the downgrade thread? There is a link to Filefactory which has all the RUUs for the EVO 3D........
Sorry I cant remember exactly which one I have used, but this one should get the job done -----------> http://www.filefactory.com/file/c19...216_NV_NV_spcs_1.42_release_233304_signed.exe
You may have to wait to download from that site . Much of the the time it says "download slots are unavailable". Or you can just google "RUU_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_Radio_1.06.00.1216_NV_NV_spcs_1.42_release_233304_signed.exe" and you will find tons of results for this file which you can download from anywhere you want.

If you are relocked then you need a good 2.17 zip. If you have a 2.17 exe that works than get it to load its first screen and hang it there. Go to your run command (where you go to start cmd prompt) type %temp% and find the 2.17 exe folder. *that won't be the name* it should be 400 or so mb. Find the zipped Rom in the folder. Right click it and choose send to desktop. Rename it PG86IMG put it to the root of your sd. And you are good to go. Pm me if you have more questions
from my downgraded 3EVO
I had a hard time getting mine to update a while ago.
Click start menu on windows. Type %temp% in the search bar.
Go into that folder. Delete everything that isn't being used. (All pointless stuff.)
Then close the folder.
Run the RUU and let it get to the first window.
Go back into %temp% folder. There will be 2 folders with a bunch of letters and numbers.
One of these has the rom.zip file.
Take that rename it to PG86IMG and put on root of SD card.
Worked for me.
Let us know.

Click here for a 2.17 RUU that actually works. Just make sure you rename just PG86IMG, the .zip is the type of file and it will make you pull out your hair if you follow everyone's post that tell you to name it PG86IMG.zip. I could not for the life of me find a RUU to work until the kind at the sprint store sent me a link and now it is here for you.

???????????????????
What exactly are you trying to downgrade? If you are locked and s-on running 2.17 and trying to downgrade to 2.17 to gain root? Have you already been HTc dev-unlocked? IF you have, use fastboot on the computer to reflash your unlocktoken. then use the new juopantabear(something like that) to go s-off then use fastboot to flash the unlocked hboot_eng 1.4, then fastboot flash recovery.img, then boot to recovery and flash super user. if not already htc-dev unlocked do that then this
I was following a tutorial on here about rooting my HTC Evo 3D Rogers, everything went smoothly, except I accidentally typed a wrong command and replaced ClockworkMod Recovery with the boot files... I know I am f***ed.... But I want to know is there anything I can do to hard reset or even replace the boot files if any of you guys have the files? When I boot my phone now, it just loads the HTC welcome screen and goes straight into the ClockworkMod Recovery...
Please, I am so worried about this... Hopefully you guys can help me out...
EDIT: I can still get into the HBOOT by volume down + power button.. hope that helps..

I'm not a pro at these things, but I can tell you that I can still open up fastboot,
I just need the original boot files and instructions on how to overwrite my mistaken ones and I think I'm good...
Would you be able to hook me up with those? :l
What's your hboot version and are you s-on or s-off right now?
if you made a backup before doing this you should restore that in recovery. If not then download a rom and flash it in recovery. You might need to flash the boot.img seperately in fastboot if you are s-on

It says unlocked, I unlocked the phone then accidentally changed the boot directory onto the clockwork recovery program ( I assume it overwrote the files )....
I've ran RUU twice and came up with Error 15... (It's the RUU Sprint one though).

Alright,
1) I booted into Fastboot, and relocked my phone with the cmd "fastboot oem lock"
2) After relocking, I restarted and went into fastboot USB and ran a RUU found in
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Shooter (be sure to check the version numbers and the branding of the phone, pick the right version is very important!)
3) Phone should take some time to replace all the files and once you restart it it's all back to normal , you can then once again unlock it as you wish.

First of all, since you are using a smarphone, you should try and be a bit smart yourself. From a logical standpoint, those ruu have something different: on one says ASIA, on one EUROPE, and on one Rogers (which I can only assume it is linked to the us version, probably CDMA Evo 3D). If you live and bought the phone from Europe, it seems to me you should try the Europe RUU, right? If from Asia, the Asia one and so forth. Simple logic.
Secondly, if you would have read the vast quantity of threads and tutorials about this, you should have started your phone in hboot (Power button+Volume Down), select Fastboot by pressing the Power button, connect your phone to your pc, and in cmd write "fastboot oem lock". Also preferably a full wipe to be done in recovery. Once those steps were performed, the logically chosen RUU would work without any errors

If you have HTC__J15 cid then run this RUU (the ics one): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282840

The Europe ruu should work for that cid... Nonetheless, I will look a bit more into it later when I get home, to see if I can find any more details
You probably need a vodafone ruu but i can't seem to find an ICS one

thank you for your collaboration,
Just for information, i have tested the europe ruu.exe but doesn't work.
Best regards,
Be sure to plug the phone in a usb 2.0 in the computer (one in the back, NOT in the front) to be sure it works properly. Ruus have problems on usb 1.1 and even on 3.0. Also try replacing your data cable, it might be faulty.
If you wiped everything in recovery and then oem locked hboot through adb, the europe ruu should have worked. Since it didnt, i must assume the problem is either with the cable used or with the usb port.
Also an idea might be to try and download the ruu again, maybe there was an error during the download
Theres something else you can try too. download the zip RUU. place this on your sd card and flash in bootloader

thank all for your collaborations,
I have done this but it doesn't work, sorry for all and thank you.
do you know other ruu?

Well if you cant RUU you should try to get a custom rom to boot. First do these steps:
Unlock your bootloader.
Flash 4EXT recovery in fastboot. Then boot into recovery and turn on smartflash in tools menu.
Download Viper3D rom (the latest one) and transfer it to your sdcard.
Boot into recovery
wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache+dalvik
install viper3d rom. It will take a while, around 10 mins on synergy 4EXT alignment.
reboot and hope it boots

Thank you,
I have boot loop after installation,
regards,
So I bought an Evo 3D from a friend, he said he played with it quite a bit. Wifi (says error) and cell data is not working, haven't tried Bluetooth. Phone is supposedly from Rogers, so I'm trying to reflash the stock ICS rom that was linked from this site.
First off, the recovery wasn't doing anything, so I flashed cwm-4.0.1.4-shooteru. Now I've got a recovery at least.
Phone refuses to flash either
RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_Rogers_WWE_3.28.631.1_Radio_11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504.06_M_release_262715_signed (obtained from the repository)
also tried to run the .exe version. The flash through CWM says Image Verification Failed or (bad), depends if I get it to actually check the signature. I have redownloaded and tried again with no success.
Hell, even the OTA update doesn't work, says the phone has been tampered with (duh).
Here's what my HBOOT says:
Code:
*** UNLOCKED ***
SHOOTER_U PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
RADIO-10.13.9020.08_2M
eMMC-boot
Jul 12 2011, 15:29:51
I have no idea how he obtained S-OFF or did the unlock, and I have no idea of the phone has the stock radio/software/anything. All I want to do is use the stock ICS rom from Rogers, as I'm lending this phone from a friend. I'm hoping the wifi and cell data will be fixed with proper software.
if your using the zip file then you need to rename it to PG86IMG.zip and place it on the root of your sdcard. then boot into bootloader and accept the update.
if this doesnt work then relock the bootloader and then try running exe version from your pc.
btw what is your hboot?

Sooo, it started to update everything with the PG86IMG (i renamed the ICS SHOOTERU rom mentioned above) and about halfway through updating various things it powered off. It won't boot now, it gets stuck in a reboot loop, but I can still get into recovery and HBOOT. Going to try the exe while it's in HBOOT, see if that works (since I can't get the phone to fully power on.)
EDIT: So, since it's stuck in the bootloop now, I can't get the S-ON done. The RUU won't detect the phone now, either. (ERROR[170]: USB CONNECTION ERROR.
So I think I may have just bricked my phone.
Rerun the PG86IMG.zip

Re-ran the PG86IMG.zip, CID is incorrect, the update failed. Do I have the incorrect ROM, or was the file I downloaded bad?
Not exactly sure. I am on a CDMA but most times I have to run the zip twice. Make sure you have downloaded the latest version. Also most sites post md5sums so you can check to make sure the download is correct.

I've MD5 checked both the Rogers Gingerbread and ICS ROMs from http://www.androidruu.com/index.php?developer=Shooter, they're good. Both get checked then tell me the CID incorrect!!! error. The radio currently installed matches the Gingerbread (WWE) ROM, but that's the first one I've tried (3 times each, just to be sure after reading above. Also, I am using the .zip files, the .exe files are the ones you run on your computer, right? (If I'm using the wrong files I'll be so pissed.)
Yes zip is for sdcard and exe for PC. Was the phone unlocked (htcdev or s-off) before?
Just reread your op. Got an idea but I have to find the files. You can still get into recovery right?
Could not find zip files right away but here is a thread with more info. Should have the zips in it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970252
The zip locks bootloader so you can run the pg86img. I forgot that it has to be locked because I use custom hboots that are locked but don't show **locked** or **relocked**.

Just checked back now, lots of technical stuff that's beyond my knowledge scope, but I did find the zip you referenced. I can still get into cmw so I should be able to do this, ill edit this post when I have results (or not XD)
EDIT: Bootloader is now ***RELOCKED***, after running the query then the relock, now trying the PG86IMG.zip again.
EDIT2: CID is still incorrect. Going to see if I can hit the ***LOCKED*** status instead of ***RELOCKED***, see if that makes a difference.
EDIT3: CID is still incorrect. Must I have the wrong image?
maybe the phone isnt rogers. try an European RUU
---------- Post added at 08:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:15 PM ----------
and if you just aren't able to run a RUU then just flash a stock rom in recovery. you might also have to update your firmware. put on root of sdcard, boot into bootloader and accept update
What CID has the phone actually got right now? (in fastboot, type "fastboot oem readcid").

I've tried fastboot to query the device if it won't boot. I've tried doing many other things with fastboot and it just says <waiting for device>.

Are you sure that the bootloader says "Fastboot USB"?
When you boot the phone into the bootlader, you have to choose the "fastboot" option (select by pressing the power button). It will go into fastboot mode (and display "Fastboot"). Then, when you connect your phone to your PC via USB cable, it should connect to your computer (assuming you have the HTC drivers installed), and "Fastboot" will turn into "Fastboot USB".
Then in the command prompt on your PC, type "fastboot devices". If your phone is detected, it'll show you it's serial number.
You can also verify it's connected by checking Device Manager on your computer.
in case you dont have the latest drivers installed, I suggest you do that first.

Bah, I wasn't going into fastboot menu in the bootloader. Go me. It says HTC__001, which means it should be taking anything I throw at it.
EDIT: Changed the CID to ROGER001, the CID for Rogers devices using this information:
http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-3d-hacks/how-to-change-cid-on-rooted-htc-evo-3d-gsm/
Threw the RUU at it, worked like a charm! I have a Rogers ICS HTC Evo 3D now! YAY!
Thanks for everyone!
EDIT2: Wi-fi still doesn't work... Probably a hardware issue at this point.

which methode?
Now this one is the exe method.
1. Download your device specific RUU from this sticky thread or Google for it.
2. Run the RUU and when its de-compressed and asks you to press next, just stop there (Don't close this window and dont press next).
3. Go to the "temp" folder on your PC. If you are on Windows 7 its located in "C:\Users\{Your_User_Name}\AppData\Local\Temp" and on Windows XP its in "C:\Documents and Settings\{Your_User_Name}\Applications Data\Local Settings\Temp"
4. Use the windows search function in "Temp" folder or dig deep into sub folders to find "rom.zip" file. It'll be around ~250MB in size.
5. Copy this file and paste it somewhere else on your PC e.g. desktop.
6. Rename this "rom.zip" file to "PG85IMG.zip"
7. Now take your SD card from Phone and connect it to your PC using a card reader or some other phone.
8. Paste that renamed "PG85IMG.zip" at the root of your SD Card.
9. Now power off your phone. Pull out the battery.
10. Insert the SD Card back in the phone. Insert the battery.
11. Now hold your volume down key and press power button. Keep the volume down key pressed. It will start your phone in boot-loader menu.
12. Select FASTBOOT if its not already selected and press power button.
13.It will search your SD Card for files and will find "PG85IMG.zip" file and will ask if you want to update.
14. Press the volume up button as instructed to continue and then sit back and relax.
Once finished it will ask you to reboot. Once rebooted, you'll be back on stock ROM with S-On.
Delete the "PG85IMG.zip" from SD Card now.
To verify S-On reboot into bootloader again (Step 11) and on the very first line it will say S-On or S-Off
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk
for flashing PG85IMG.zip my phone must be locked or unlock?
To flash back to stock you need to relock the bootloader and make sure you're using the correct image for your device and carrier. S-on or s-off doesn't matter. For example, trying to flash a T-Mobile image won't work. In one of the pinned threads in one of the forums here is a link to the stock images for different carriers. If you can't find it do a search, but I'm pretty sure they can also be found in the Amaze Bible page or in the Amaze Wiki.
Once relocked all you have to do is rename the image and flash from your SD-card in hboot. If it fails to flash you're probably using the wrong image or you're still unlocked. Once you've relocked the bootloader it will say relocked. If the image is from a different carrier it won't work either. Again just make sure the image you're trying to flash is from the carrier that originally sold the phone. Then you should have no problems returning to stock.
i relocked it and went to hboot page
it says
Loading .....[ph85img.zip] then
Checking....[ph85img.zip]
after side bar fulls says "hboot version is older !"
update fail!
press power to reboot
can u plz find me suitable ruu for my phone i tried anything!
