Intro: I'm pwnyourace, this is only my second kernel to be released to the public, i made the umph kernel for the motorola triumph. I'm really still getting my feet wet with making kernels so yea, alot of my stuff will be based on others work, but credit is always given if it can be found.
What this includes
Based on Tiamats 8x60 branch, ill try to get the main points of the tiamat kernel also for those that arent familiar with it
OC up to 1944MHZ (tiamat)
SQLB (tiamat)
Simple IO, BFQ, V(R) I/O schedulers (tiamat)
Smartassv2, Lagfree govs (tiamat)
Tun, Cifs (tiamat)
Expose the vdd_sc values to the sysfs userspace (tiamat)
Snapdragon opts (ziggy)
Toasts updated GPU drivers (toastcfh duh)
Toasts new touchscreen drivers (toastcfh duh again)
3D and 2D overclocked
ZRAM
ZCache
Swap support enabled
Disclaimer: What everyone else puts in kernel threads, about me not being responsible, ect.
Latest kernel
Twisted_Kernel-v1_Evo3D
Methods of flashing
Joeykrim's "flashimage gui" app on the market using one of the zImage files from the zips
(To be added soon) Teamwin's "Kernel manager" app on the market.
Flashing via recovery using one of the zips here.
Recommended apps =)
CPU Master (personally what I use)
Nofrills - App to manage I/O scheduler, clock speeds & governors.
Adw ex or go launcher ex
Colorize widgets - Great widgets to replace the lpp ones for those converting to other launchers.
AppMonster(pro or free) - Great backup utility, automatically backs up all apps.(I like it better than TB)
GPS Status - Great application for finding satalites near you and helping get a quick lock.
Any go dev team app - Great dev team, all their apps are worth looking at.
Locating cpu% eating applications.
When in ADB shell type the following
top |grep app
or if your rom supports it htop is much better(Without grep, so just "htop")
Then look for items with high amounts of cpu% while the phone is idle.
changelog:
v1 Initial Release
Notes:
Will most likely stop mooching off tiamat and base this off the cm kernel when it get merged

I'm getting great battery life on this kernel.. so far better then the rest of the AOSP kernels. That's with the smartassv2 gov. Good job!!

Been running for a couple hours on miui, so far so good.

Yeah I'm a always o/c to 1728 no problem any other time. I did turn it down too, and what had between going on is freezing and the screen getting strange while playing shadow gun and samurai 2. Other times there are just random reboots. I'm just going to assume the new screen improvements that caused this. So I went back to tiamat kernel sadly.

Well, I'm a pretty heavy user but I'm home alot so battery life isn't all that much of an issue. But today I unplugged at 100% at about 10am and my phone died about an hr ago. Mind you I've listened to my Google music for a good few hrs out the speaker on Max vol and text and am on the internet nonstop lol. Ill try my best to be an average user tomarrow and report battery stats

This kernel rocks. Hope you keep development going. I got a2sd working on miui with this! It doesn't work on other kernels. MIUI is now a 2.3.7 rom so I don't know if that changes anything. It still works great!

[MOD]Updated-8-30-PowerSave CPU Manager-W/Dual Core Support

Well with all the dual core stuff going on i figured it would be good to make this flashable so it can be used with anything. So here it is, All the credit goes to mike1986 for this technology found in his sensation rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849 and -viperboy-
On to the good stuff, what this mod does.
It controls your cpu's for a good balance between power and performance by changing the following:
Enables the second cpu while phone is awake
Sets cpu frequency and governor for second cpu
Sets cpu frequency and governor for first cpu
While the phone is sleeping it underclocks the first cpu to 384000 and sets the governor to conservative, also disables the second cpu.
When the battery gets below 25% it will disable the second cpu and underclock the first cpu to 702000 and set the governor to conservative.
With this you don't need to use any other cpu managers ie., virtuous_oc, setcpu, etc.
The file can be edited at /system/xbin/pcm and init.d needs to be enabled on your rom.
Post any ideas or problems you have.
EDIT: I fixed the invalid argument problem occuring in logcat. It was happening cause it kept writing to the file when it was already changed. Fixed it by adding a check.
Users experiencing lag please try the new upload (PCM-DualCore1.1-signed.zip) and see if it works better and post results. Thank You.
Changes:
If you use virtuous oc daemon, i added a file that will work with it. It simply enables the second cpu and underclocks it while its sleeping. It can be used with any other cpu manager because it doesn't effect the first cpu core at all.
Awesome, thanks so much!! This will come in REAL handy!!

Just NAND backup before flashing
So, our phones should now have true dual-core integration/hw acceleration? Or am I mistaken?

sorry for the noob question, but what do you mean it enables the second cpu? weren't we using both cpu's all this time? isn't that the point of dual processors?
on the other end of things...can the file be editing for more aggressive underclocking when the screen is off, and other steps in between?
Its a huge difference w dual mode! Way way faster at opening things.

It's not a synchronous core. Meaning it only calls on the second core when needed. This hack forces both cores to run all the time when the screen is on.
What are the benefits? Eh. Well have to see. I think HTC set it up the way it is because it's better on battery. I'm interested on a little more info as well though.
Most people from the synergy rom nighties say it has no real difference. Besides...1.2ghz is fast enough for just about every application short a few games even on a SINGLE core

I wasn't talking about working on this script. Misfit and I have been working on chanting the ramdisk and creating a similar script. But yes it will work on any firmware due to its hardware related more than firmware.
Also, its fast for sure. But it needs to settle in too.

So when the screen is on...does it run both cores at the same clock speed with same governor?
So I went ahead and flashed this. I'm running viper ROM and silverneedle 1.0. I use system panel, and it appears that even after flashing this that core 2 is only being called on when needed. Core 1 is still handling most of the load.
Here's the monkey wrench. The rom supports init.d and also has oc daemon built into it. However, if you use a different kernel than stock on viper it stops the daemon from automatically running on startup. Could this be the same case here?
well I looked at the code and it looks alright. similar to my SetCPU profiles.
I might modify it a little though. i'm on a 4000mAh battery so I don't need powersaver to kick in at 25%
will use it all day tomorrow and report at night.
Could someone please post before and after quadrant or smartbench scores?
Most apps are not multithreaded so they will only use one CPU anyway. Turning the second one on is going to do nothing but drain the battery and it won't result in any increase in speed.
Thanks,
Mike

Your not supposed to have the ocdameon, and this script running at the same time. If you are, that would be your problem, as they both will be contradicting eachother. You can only have one, or the other. It says this in the OP, to not have anything else controlling the CPU, but this script. You should prolly flash a different kernel without the dameon, then check it again with CPU master.

Quad with ziggy kernel

I have been playing with some kernels. This is what can be obtained eith ziggy's kernel. And to think, until recently, je didn't even have a 3D. If the score is not clear it is 4447

EDIT: My bad, Mods, please move this to the Eternity thread in the CDMA development forum. Sorry, and thanks!
what is your current setup?rom, mods?, clock speed and governor?also, ive gotten great scores with ziggy's kernel as well but had a known issue of wake call ( where the phone is asleep and when someone would call, the phone screen would be black and not wakeup). This is a known issue and Virus has mentioned its kernel related. Virus has gotten Ziggy a Evo 3D, so hopefully he can correct this issue as his kernel is by far the best performing and battery life Ive tested.
Just a friendly reminder that this doesn't really belong here, it's more fitting in general, or even apps/themes.
That having been said, Ziggy's kernels were always really good on the OG 4g, but I have had nothing but problems with them on the Evo3D. I know he recently got the Evo so hopefully they'll improve, but even with the latest I'm getting issues with reboots, lockups (those are with it clocked to 1188, not OC'ed at all for testing purposes), and also the infamous 'unable to wake the screen on incoming call'. In other kernels that's a sign that 2 way recording is enabled, but I don't believe Ziggy's have that functionality.
I've also been able to achieve 4300/4400+ with Warm 2.3 and BCBlend 0.3.
How come Ziggy doesnt have his own thread with his kernels. Does he only want it on ViperRom or is there somewhere other than XDA where he has them.

What tweaks are you using?

I was just wondering what different tweaks people use that work. The only thing I been using is jokers 1.3 kernal on cm7 and just tried 3g/4g optimizer for 3g boost. I am new here so off I'm curious as to what you guys use for tweaking things like 3g etc....
Sent from my CM7ed MoPho
Hello and welcome! 3g tweaks are one of those grey areas in which people seem to have varying results. None have ever done much for me.. However, zeroing out any proxies within your build.prop usually seems to get me slightly faster and more reliable 3g speeds. CM7 is pretty optimized from the get-go, but i urge you to make good use of that kernel. By that i mean, sit down and really set up profiles, underclock by no more than 50 if you want to be sure you get no random reboots, run the powersave governor instead of performance (with deadline), dont bother overclocking unless youre really obsessed with benchmarking scores as jokers mods to the kernel improve performance at stock frequencies and visible performance gains are minimal with overclock. If everything is set up correctly, don't bother using a battery saver app as profiles can generally do the same thing. Dont use task killer apps, they hurt battery performance and do more harm than good. Might wanna check out startup manager to dictate which apps start upon boot if you have a ton of apps. Check out an app called ad away to get rid of those pesky ads. Rom Toolbox Lite app is good for many many little tweaks as well. Thats all i can really think of right this second. Other than these i like to keep it generally clean.
What is the most accurate speed test app? I been using speedtest.net mobile.
Sent from my CM7ed MoPho
There isn't. All of them are slightly inaccurate. Best way to judge your speed is to actually download something.

You'll find your phone actually runs smoother without the task killer. They were useful in the days when phones had limited amounts of ram. With today's phones its redundant given that android has its own 'task killer' built in.

[KeRnEl] Clemsyn's Elite BATTERY SAVING kernel: Now for 4.1.2 ROMs

Would like to thank all the Beta Testers of my Elite kernel for Nexus 7. They have allowed me to see how low voltages can go in the device. Also, credits go to _motley, fosser2, Cpajuste, pershoot, catch1571, pinoyto, masterg0g0, morfic etc...and to who ever I missed. Biggest thanks to my wife for giving me the chance to do this.
UPDATED 10/19/2012
1. This kernel is updated to utilize the latest 4.1.2 by Google for Nexus 7
2. Same voltages applied as before to extend your battery life
3. Same speed of CPU and GPU
4. Same warning as below.

Now to the kernel
This kernel is basically a STOCK kernel with voltage lowered to the lowest possible settings to EXTEND battery life. No tweaks other than voltages
This are for Nexus 7 users who care more about BATTERY life and LESS HEAT than overclocking.
Here are the changes.
1. Undervolting is NOT POSSIBLE in this kernel. Undervolting has been done by me in the kernel
2. CPU voltages are default to maintain stability but it shines in undervolting the other aspects of the device, ie: pll_c, memory, emc, host1x, GPU 2d/3d bus etc...
2. vdd_core/vdd_rail decreased voltage from 1.2 to 1.1mv
3. emc, pll_c, host1x, GPU decreased from 1.2 to 1.1mv
4. Compiled using Linaro Toolchain
5. Speed of GPU 2d/3d/vde etc set at 400 mhz (close to stock of 416)
6. Backlight default decreased to 5 for better reading at night and decrease battery consumption
Here is the link OR CLICK ON THE BOTTOM
https://rapidshare.com/files/3373858690/ClemsynELITEBatterySaverStock.zip
WARNING:
Due to aggressive undervolting of this kernel. It might not work with your device. So please be very familiar with backup/restore of your device
** If you like my work. Please do not hesitate to click on the DONATE TO ME button and add to my Nexus7 fund and reward my work. It will be appreciated THANK YOU.
git https://github.com/clemsyn/Grouper
I will use this as my daily driver when I'm not testing kernels.
Edit: I just realized that this is stock, I though it was like the previous 1.5 one of the series. Would you be updating on that regard in the future?
Edit2: Temp wont reach 40.0 C 37.0 C being the mac with none to light use.
Edit3: So has anyone tried to see if init.d support is there?
very nice!

Probably not then, you still have to modify the code to enable init.d support in AOSP source. Will give this a go anyway for the battery saving. Thanks for your work.

I also might add that this was was done with just intellidemand governor on both cores and only set to 1512 on both. I did max gpu out on both 2d and 3d.

Hey inman thanks for the reply. Should have put Sense 5 in the title to draw some more people but all is good
By the way, did you notice any slowdowns in sense 5 when using the arc reactor kernel? I noticed a considerable slowdown from stock. still pretty cool though, im about to start a Sense 5 Port General thread.
Yeah I shouldve! No I didn't have any lag or anything. It was actually flyin! I maxed out to 1.89 on both cores and performance on both and got mid 7000's. I had read ahead set to 2048 and had a swap file set at 80%. I think stock I got a 6200!

sorry brotha but he put his up first, just a minor correction though as yours is properly named so its probably better to switch anyways however i gotta say a 7000 quad is just intense a 6200 equally intense.
can you what you did to the kernel? im using a s*** app from the play store to manage my OC and whatever, but i got a slowdown that was kind of rediculous.
I use kernel tuner, hands down the best kernel app out! In this specific quadrant I had vsync turned off, read ahead set at 2048, io schedualer set on Zen, swapiness set at 80%, gpu maxed on both 3d & 2d, both cores on intellidemand with min 192 and max 1500's.

Gave you three thanks, Didnt see why you had 0
Sorry forgot the kernel was the latest arc reactor test kernel max(1.89)sound mod. Yeah I didn't have any thanks because I'm just now getting the time to get involved with sea/development. Ive followed everything but to busy to interact! Hopefully I can be a help to whoever needs it.

hey latest arc reactor kernel at 2.1 (never had any issues with 2.1 on sense) gave me 7582 both cores maxed to 2.1 no frequency link, cfq i/o scheduler, Max GPU OC
Man its awesome isn't it! It seems like yesterday I was pumped about 1500 on the original EVO, man things have blown up! I'm shooting for the 8000 mark!

I think somebody already broke 8000 running SWG and the Arc Reactor kernel
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much
