Is there anyone here using the White Galaxy S2 without any problem on AT&T media net plan? No flag to 2Gb plan?
My 1st one (it was sold.) was seen as blackberry on OLAM. Hope to get some info from here before buying another white one. I know Black one will work but I want a white one. Thanks a lot to all the white one users.
I actually opened a thread about this yesterday, I have a white s2 and it gets flagged as a blackberry. Today att is going to call me and see what could be done, I'm going to stick to my story that I'm using a nokia. I'll update my response after my call with them.
Sent from my White Galaxy S2!
Thanks florelui...Hope AT&T will work with you on that well. Good luck to you.

Yes, I received the call from one of their customer service representative. She was asking me questions to try and make sure I wasn't using a blackberry or smartphone. I stuck to my story that I was using a Nokia and explained how three other att smartphones on our family plan have data plans like they should but that if my "Nokia" needed a data plan I would have already put one on. She finally said ok, and said that I would keep the media net plan even though it said I had a blackberry in their system.
If you stick to your story and feed them some crap they'll let you keep it. I'm just glad I get to have unlimited $10 data

Just got switched from the media net plan to the 2GB blackberry plan today. Called customer service and for some reason they actually have my old LG Shine on record instead of the BB 8300 shown on OLAM. The CSR switched me back to media net but who knows how long until it gets switched again.

I'd be interested if you could keep us posted if you ever get switched to the BB data plan.
I'd hate to have to call them every few weeks to fix it, but I don't want to give up this phone either.

I experienced the same problem and its extremely frustrating. I called atnt, they agreed to remove the 2GB data plan and re-add the $10 plan. Its just day one so I have no idea if the changes will be permanent or if it'll just revert to the outrageous 2gb $25 plan again. Will keep you guys posted at the end of the month if i remember.
Blackberry curve.... what a joke
White i9100.... why can't you be hassle free like your black cousin
I'm fairly certain that it will happen again once the next automated imei sweep occurs.
I did a test and it seems that once you stick your sim in, OLAM shows the BB 8300 almost instantly and does not reset to the unknown generic flip phone when I put the sim in my HD2. I have to manually select "Not my phone/device?" in order to reset it. I'm thinking that if the automated sweeps occur on a specified schedule, I can avoid the hassle of having to change plans by using my HD2 during the sweeps.
I'm still waiting to buy another white one...really dunno why the white one is seeing as Blackberry tho....are they going to see all the new unlocked phone as blackberry for the future?...thank you guys for the update, and please keep us in the loop.

The question is, will at&t leave me alone when they find out that I'm not using any of these phones?

Wouldn't bother them. You already extended your contract. You will need to go to the store and get regular SIM as the ones in the phones will be active with the numbers you upgraded. Once you get the new SIMs you'll have to change your data packages back to what they were by changing back the IMEIs you had before the upgrade as well.
the IPhone 4 and 4s take completely different sims than the other phones they are like micro compared to normal sims. I have posted a pic of them. You will definately need to go get a normal sized sim...
Your responses make no sense when you take into account the fact that he already has 5 phones, which means he has 5 sim cards. Why would he need to get different sim cards to swap back? Oh, that's right. He wouldn't.
Are you just throwing out random facts for no reason?
Also, it is your choice to do whatever with the phones. AT&T can't restrict you on who or where the phone can go to.
Thanks for your feedback everyone.
As far as I know/remember, I didn't need to use the sim card they provided; the one I've been using worked.
I guess I'll be posting this on marketplace now
Here are the potential issues.
First you have to get 5 of them. In years past they have put 2 per customer restrictions on them, so you might be making 3 stops, or waiting for shipping. They sell so high because people have a hard time finding one in stock. The price will drop once they are easy to find. Even though they are a disappointing upgrade, they still have an apple on back, so they will sell lots and fast.
Next the SIMs, the pictures don't show a door on the 4S. With the sprint and vz phones being international the SIM might not come out, all phones may have one permanently. Your old 5 SIMs will immediately stop working. You will need to contact att to get them working again. With how busy the stores will be, this may be a very long phone call, during which time all your old phones wont work.
Next features. The data plans for iPhones won't work with any other phones. This will be part of your long call, switching 5 data plans back to the old style. Also the visual voicemail on the iPhone will deactivate the normal voicemail, and will have to be switched back and setup again. Also if you have a data+text combined data plan I have heard you lose that, and can't get it back. But the family plans have a different setup, and that may not apply. If you buy them online you may lose the unlimited data, if you have it, which you cab get back, but it requires some escalation at att to put it back.
So, if you can get 5 iPhones you'll make a quick Buck, but it is going to be a headache and takes hours of your time.

+1 ^^^^
And if you don't have data plan on one of your lines, you could be stuck with minimal $15/per line/per month * 24 months = $360 extra charges per line. If you bought from AT&T store, you may be able to drop the data afterwards. But if you purchased through 3rd party, you may be charged extra$$ if you change your plan within certain periods.

There you go, buy the a adapters, or just call att and have then reassign the SIM cards you already have. Somehow this solution seems harder than the free lengthy phone call.

I've talked at length about this with people I know at att stores. The only stipulation from their end is that a smart phone continues to get used on each line.
The discount they give on their smart phones is based on making more money per month off you based on the smart phone internet charge. As long as that doesn't change they don't care, at least in a technical sense. They won't like it but they can't and won't stop you.
Money talks.

So, as I've said a ton of times (hopefully I haven't gotten on anyone's nerves yet) I finally decided to buy this phone and it's coming to me middle of this week.
I'm on a family plan with my father being the primary holder (just works out to be significantly cheaper that way). He gets very, very....let's just be nice and say "grumpy" when it comes to any sort of plan changes or extra costs incurred. It's not a huge issue, but it's something I'd rather not deal with.
So this question is directed at all you guys who bought your Evo LTE's off contract and are coming from previous WiMAX devices (basically, any of the original Evos or Epics/Epic Touches). How simple was it to activate your phone? Were you charged anything? Did the process take a long time?
Again, I apologize for the new issues, I'm not new with this, but I generally have a lot of questions near the beginning of getting a new Android phone and then I get comfortable with it.
Thanks in advance, guys.
If you buy the phone at full price the only additional charge you should see is Sprint's $10 premium data fee (if you're already on Sprint's Everything Data plan). Sprint's insurance plan has gone up. If you decide to go with their insurance it's $11 a month and I believe $200 to file a claim.
Activation should be fast but there is a known issue with the hands free activation which in some rare cases that I've seen it won't activate right out of the box and may result in resetting the device. After that should be smooth sailing.
Don't have mine yet (holding out to see if HTC releases a white version) but I've been working with this phone sine pre orders were delivered and I know Sprint's plan pretty good too!
Enjoy the new phone!

I'm already on Sprint's Everything Data plan with the Evo 3D (and by extension, paying the $10 premium), so I assume that my activation (excepting the hand free activation part) should go off without any cost and without any hitch?
Thank you for the response!

When I tried to activate my phone, it told me I needed to pick a new plan that was compatible with the phone. For some reason it didn't think it could be activated on the family plan that I am on. I'm not the primary line, my mother is. I purchased the phone at full retail price and was not able to activate it without calling Sprint and having them go through it manually.
So if you try to activate the phone and it says that you have to pick a new plan, don't freak out. A quick call to Sprint will solve the issue and you'll be fine.

Yeah, how much push back did you get on this? I imagine they are not doing this for many. I tried to get me Gnex swapped for an S3 after 4 replacements and they still would not budge. I cannot imagine them jumping any quicker to do it for a Rezound.
I have been a customer for 15 years, have gone through about 13 rezounds so i had leverage lol
I want one..... But I'm broke lol
Via my Google Galaxy Nexus with Butter
13 Rezounds? What the hell? What did you do to your Rezounds to make you go through so many? Did you take them swimming or toss them up as high as you could?
I'm legitimately curious as to how you managed to go through over 10 different Rezounds. I don't think I can buy that you managed to get 13 defective phones in a row unless you're the least lucky person in the world.

Install what u need to get by dont buy anything ,need a contact add it(if you want a new account then do it just dont forget to change all your bills email address which is easy from your phone or pc)
now call vzw tech 2 18662214096 1 your number 3 first name, last name social (you tell the csr you have formated the sd card hard reset the device created a new google account and your still having a 4g data drop please create a trouble ticket it will prob come back adjust settings at there end next step sim card next step reman phone that still wont work
I was at my wits end keep giving me the 3 options that keep changing to razor bionic revolution rezound dinc 4 lte anything but the s3 so i went to tmobile $321.00 a month truely unlimited plan 4g 4 s3 $150.00 down each 4x150.00=$600.00 full retail price mind you,you pay the phone off over 20 months on approved credit.

9/8/2012
I called (866) 406-5154 for tec
Dont remeber the drill
Rattled off please read the notes on account got the you can update dec 2 line I PROCEDE to tell her I cant do that I use way to much data I have to buy phones at full retail price to keep my unlimited data I want a phone that works I dont want the 3 phones offered I pause she asked what phone I want I pause I tell her I have been offered anything 4g but the s3 so thats what i want (many many many calls later over 1.5 months)
She puts me on hold for 5mins At this point im falling a sleep(im up at 2-3am everyday)
8am i think she comes back we can get you the s3 under alt warranty replacement this one time only you have to pay for battery back covers (mind you i linked my wifes phone on trouble ticket way back when)
Otterboxs screen protectors otd $221.-25%=167.something

I just bought a gs3 off craigslist a few days ago for $300. I stalked the new listings for about 4 weeks until i found a good one at a good price. I was a fan of htc from the incredible, incredible 2, and rezound! But, the gs3 is awesome! I am finally untethered from my charger! My gs3 battery is great! Its definitely leaps and bounds above the rezound. Before hating on my post, check this phone out! Btw, I hated my gnex and got rid of it after 2 weeks.
PS. Chad..... Thanks for everything you have done! Hope to see you in the gs3 forum!
Only went through 1 replacement because I thought my phone wouldn't charge a dead battery but then after replacing it I found out it was clockwork mod.
So currently I have the GS3, and today I am eligible for an upgrade on one of my 5 lines, two of which my wife and I still have unlimited data (the line with the eligible upgrade is not unlimited) so I am wondering is there a way to upgrade that line and give my wife the GS3 and me get the Gn2 without me loosing unlimited?
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S3 using Tapatalk 2
you cannot get a phone at discounted price and keep unlimited data. You can buy one for full retail price and keep your data or get the discount and switch to tiered data plan. Or start a business account and you would still have access to unlimited data but it would cost around 150 bucks a month per line to have unlimited everything or at least i am pretty sure business customers sill have this option. If you end up seriously considering that i can call my business rep and ask him if you want just PM me.
If I upgraded the line with the upgrade available (which is already a limited data plan) and got the gn2 on that line and then preformed a hardware swap with my GS3 I would think I would get to keep unlimited or am I wrong here?

Ryan: So today I am eligible for an upgrade on one of my 5 lines, two of which still have unlimited data (the line with the eligible upgrade is not unlimited) so I am wondering If I upgraded the line with the upgrade available (which is already a limited data plan) and got a new phone on that line and then, preformed a hardware swap with my current phone would I get to keep unlimited data?
Elisabeth: I will be happy to help you with your questions today!
Elisabeth: Yes you would be able to activate the phone to whatever number you want and not affect the unlimited data.
Elisabeth: Let's start that upgrade process today!
Elisabeth: What type of phone are you interested in today?
Ryan: The galaxy note 2
Elisabeth: That is an awesome phone!
Elisabeth: The order process is quick and easy online.
Elisabeth: And you can activate the phone yourself.
Ryan: I think im going to do it in store
Elisabeth: When you purchase the phone in store they activate it under the line that the upgrade is for.
Elisabeth: I recommend proceeding with the upgrade online today!
Ryan: Is it at all possible that i can order from you and do in store pickup?
Ryan: and still activate it on my own?
Elisabeth: I would have to see if in store pick is available where you live.
Elisabeth: What state do you live in?
Ryan: Arizona
Elisabeth: Let me check.
Elisabeth: What you can get today is free two day shipping when you order online because in store pick up is not available in your state.
Elisabeth: Would you like to proceed with the order.
Ryan: Im going to have to pass right now my wife broke her phone and she is freaking out without one on the weekend.
Elisabeth: I understand! I am the exact same way!
Elisabeth: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Ryan: No that should be it, thank you for your help i really appreciate it.
Elisabeth: Can I give you a suggestion?
Ryan: yes
Elisabeth: When you buy the phone in the store tell them it is for Christmas and you will activate it later. Then after you leave call customer care and activate the phone under the number you want.
Elisabeth: Do you want the number to customer care?
Ryan: yes please.
Elisabeth: Their number is 1-800-922-0204.
Elisabeth: You will be able to keep your unlimited data that way.
Ryan: Awesome. Thank you so much you are amazing Elisabeth.
Elisabeth: Your Welcome!
Elisabeth: Have a wonderful day!

You are correct. This is exactly what I did. I ordered mine online but had to exchange it in the store do to slight screen seperation below the home button. I even explained what I was doing at the store and they had no problem upgrading a regular line and switching it to my unlimited one.

Ya she was telling me it depends on who you talk to, but I'm buying at best buy and those guys are idiots for the most part Imo so I am going to do it as the Verizon rep told me.

Use your upgrade and get the note 2. Then just swap sim cards and you will be all set. Dont need to do anything else. Thats all I did and I had to explain it to the Verizon reps that it works.

I actually work in Best Buy Mobile. You can do what is called an alternate upgrade. You just take the upgrade from the available line and place the upgraded device on the desired phone number. I do them all the time for customers in the same situation as you.

correct...the only thing you wont be able to do is use the upgrades on the unlimited lines when they are elidgeable, without losing unlimited data.

Exactly. You are basically postponing the inevitable to a degree, but since those lines are already on a tiered plan, you have nothing to lose. As long as those other lines don't need new smartphones soon then you are good. Just keep in mind if you ever upgrade a line that had unlimited data then kiss your unlimited data goodbye.

From what I've been hearing it all depends on the rep you talk to. Maybe I will get lucky.

I have transferred 2 upgrades to my phone number and bought the iPhone 5(Which I sold and made about $800 on), and now the GNote, and have not lost the unlimited data even though it said I would both times.

To be honest is not a matter of getting lucky. The option for an alternate upgrade is built right into our activation system for Verizon. As long as you tell the associate what exactly you are wanting to do it well be fine. Just say you want to take the upgrade on line ending in 1234 and put the new hardware on line ending in 5678 without changing the plan. I can personally guarantee it will work no problem

It does change on your account as soon as the phone activates itself on boot after sim card swap
My line is available for upgrade in January and I did not want to lose my unlimited data. So I actually purchased the GN2 on my father's account which still had an NE2 also. Once the process was complete the guy deactivated my thunderbolt and activated the GN2 on my line. The rep also setup my SIM card for recycling so If I ever wanted to activate my TBolt again I could. If unlimited data goes away maybe I'll get a Asus PhonFab over the summer and sell the GN2
Thanks everyone for the advice. Finally got myself the titanium gray GN2 so far I'm loving it. And I just did the sim swap it worked out great.

Well, I have that dilemma that we all go through. I am currently on a Family Share Plan with five phones. My line is the primary line and is eligible for an upgrade at this time. I have the Motorola Droid Razr HD with unlimited data. I understand that by doing a subsidized upgrade to a new phone, I will lose my unlimited data on my phone. That is what makes this so difficult. Here is the dilemma though. I am 43 years old, and my eyes are starting to go. I need a bigger screen. I am also a large person - 6'3", 270 lbs with big old sausages for fingers. So, with that said, I definitely want something the size of the Note II or bigger. The question is, do I upgrade now or wait for the Note III, which is rumored for release in September?
The benefit of upgrading now is that I can probably recoup most, if not all of the $199 cost of the Note II by selling my Droid Razr HD, which is in flawless condition. The downside is that I will be stuck with an older phone for the next 20 months.
Thanks for the help...hopefully some of you guys have been in this situation and can help out.
PS - I really don't care about a lot of the newer features of the Galaxy S4. I just want a larger screen!
Buy it outright thats what i did its expensive but anything to keep my unlimited data and i hardly use 2 ti 3gb a month but its just thw fact and the common piece of mind that i have unlimited...or you uae an upgrade on another line then transfer that phone to you line...

Whichever phone you choose, I highly recommend buying used or full retail in order to keep your unlimited data. You may not use more than 2GB data in a month now, but you never know when that unlimited data will come in handy. And once you lose it, it's gone.
Craigslist and Swappa are good sources for used devices, and there is always ebay. If you want the Note 3, be prepared to pay full retail unless you wait a few weeks for used ones to become available.
I am extremely reluctant to lose my unlimited data...they all seem to be $500 and up in my area on Craigslist.
You cab upgrade without losing your unlimited. If you have multiple lines on your account, just transfer the upgrade to one of the lines that doesn't have unlimited. Order the phone you want, activate it, then swap your SIM card to it. Reactivate the phone that was originally on that line. This works easiest if you order through Amazon or Verizon's website. Don't go to a store, just do it yourself through online ordering. This is how I've done my last three upgrades while keeping unlimited.

I did every step, VPN is running, I downloaded your wifi tether apk and installed it, changed the SSID and enabked encryption and changed the 128bit security phrase, snd when I press start tether, the log shows "setting ad-hock mode - failed"
Appreciate the help.

Buy full retail at Costco. 499 and its brand new. Better than buying from Craigslist at the same price.

+1. I've done this twice with zero issue. I don't believe you can do this through Amazon. I think with Amazon the phone must stay on the line it's activated on for several months, or you will incur extra charges.
Best Buy and Radio Shack do not have this requirement.

Although he does have the family plan i think they might screw him out of unlimited with an upgrade on any line, im not sure..i know on my wife n my family plan i have unlimited and she has the old get double data for regular price thing and i know if either of us upgrade we gota switch to the new plans which is stupid so i dont care ill buy phones outright for us as long as we both have those plans
It works just fine with Amazon. I've done two phones through Amazon this way and one through Verizon. The only requirement is the phone stay in use on your account for six months. Doesn't matter what number it is on. This requirement is the same wether going through Amazon or Verizon.

I currently have four lines on my account, with the family share plan. Two are smartphones with unlimited data, the other two are flip phones. When an upgrade comes up, I go to the my Verizon site and transfer the upgrade to one of the flip phones. Order the new phone on that line. When phone arrives, activate on the line it was ordered for. Immediately swap in my SIM card, get back on my Verizon, reactivate the flip phone on the line that was upgraded, which immediately cancels the new data plan for that line. Works perfect every time.

OMG! You're a genius! I have five phones on my account, and one of them is not unlimited. I can transfer the upgrade to that line, upgrade to the Note 2, then move the Note 2 back to my unlimited line. Woohoo!
I changed device type to Samsun S3 and it works fine now with no errors. Let us see if t-mobile is going to add additional fees to my bill, or if this vpn will work. I hope it does work as I hate comcast and want to cancel them.

Thats what I was told. Me and my wife have 4 lines all together and 3 of them are eligible for upgrades one including unlimited data. They told me multiple times if I upgrade any of them, my whole plan changes to the share everything, losing my unlimited data. Nothing changes if you add line though, which is what I did and swapped out the sim. Your best bet is to buy off contract. Keep your unlimited because its nice not having to keep an eye on how much you use.

Guys, I am lost, I still cannot see my SSID on my ipad or my laptop, I started VPN first and it is connected, then started wifi tether, had to change device profile to samsung s3 to get it to start without errors, I did change SSID, enabled encryption, and changed the 128bit security phrase.
Tether is running and showing d/l and u/l, download stays zero but upload goes up as time passes. But I cannot see my SSID any where to connect. Please, I urgently need help. Thanks.

First off you need to go to the right forum for your phone. This is Verizon Note 2, you need to go to T-mobile Note 2 forum and create your own thread in the help section instead of trying to hijack someone else's thread.

I am not trying yo hijack anyone's thread as you said, I was directed here from the t-mobile section by a respectfull member. And the topic of the thread is not brand specific, so, execuse me if I offended you with my posts here and with disagreeing with you. And again, I appreciate any help my dear friends.

I thought of doing that based on the lower retail price. But the guys at the kiosk in Costco said that the only way they could sell the phone was if I signed a new contract. Didn't matter if I was willing to pay full retail or not.

I pulled the trigger on the Note 2...
As I previously stated, I have a 700 minute Family Share plan with five lines. Three have unlimited data, one is on a 2GB data plan, and the fifth is not a smartphone. I transferred my upgrade to my wife's line (non-smartphone) and upgraded to the Note 2. My plan did not change. When I get it, I will activate it on my wife's line, then call and have her feature phone put back on the line. Then I should be able to drop my SIM into the Note 2 and have unlimited data on that phone.
