camera with smart shot! - HTC Amaze 4G

do this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295390
at least download his camera mod v8, unzip everything in the system app goes in the corresponding folder in the system of your phone... make sure to change all premissions to rw-r--r--, i just did it and its amazing!

Are you saying I can install this version of the Amaze Camera in any rom??
This was stopping me to use the beastMod by xboarder...I can (hardly) do without Sense...but I like the sense camera (my mistake..the Sense camera is on beastMod)!!
Especially I am interested in the NO-jpg compression...did you see improvement over the stock one??
I would post some before and after picture..in case I can do it on my quicksense, I will make a comparison.

It should work on both my roms
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using xda premium

I just need to change the files which manages the compression..I believe the compression on the Amaze can be largely reduced, increasing a lot the camera quality of the pictures.
I will make some tests.

So....what is this all about? I'm not a tech head really. cheers.

How can I install this?? I was trying to copy it but with Es File Explorer it says Failed to change permissions..
Phone is running Quicksense 1.3 rooted...and in Es explorer root options is enabled

Ok..I figure it out!!
Then..I made some tests...even if I can't post the pictures here (I don't know how to do it..I tried but I failed )
The compression is lower with the camera but not so much lower. At least from what I was expecting. Anyway the pictures appear more clearly in some cases, but in other I still prefer the standard one. Even the Auto-enance feature sometime works good..sometimes doesn.t.
Nice the possibility to select bitrate on the video! I will test the video as well.

I am trying to understand this correctly.
This mod is pretty much the same software we have on the amaze, but with a few tweaks?

on the tmobile ones yes its the exact same
telus/wind no

[Q] Enable Extras in Gingerbread

I have the at&t Motorola Atrix, running Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread with System Version 4.5.91. I rooted it back in Froyo, and the Superuser app remains with permissions still intact, so I assume that it is still rooted.
I would like to know how to get Mirror mode (available on the Droid 3, which has Gingerbread & Motoblur), and 1080p video recording. I know that the video recording is to be sent in some sort of software update (I had assumed that it was the OTA one for Gingerbread a few days ago), and that Mirror mode is completely possible. I am very new to programming and development, however these are features that I really want.
I realize that this post is more suited for the Development board, but I haven't the required amount of posts on the forum to have access to said board. If someone would like to move the thread, Godspeed.
access as in you can't view it? if you can at least look you can read that their isn't a full mirror mode like the droid 3 does (as in we have a solution but only in portrait, no landscape). 1080P recording is also available but its run at about 24fps and can get choppy. 720 still outperforms it. its also in the Rom Development forum (as well as the themes and apps forum).
By "access", I meant "post this in".
How easy are those features to add? The recording and mirroring? Why is it that the droid3 gets full Mirror mode and the Atrix doesn't? They're pretty much the same phone, except the droid3 has a keyboard. Is there really supposed to be an update for the phone to record 1080p?
ah ok. its all in that forum
once you flash your build of choice etc you can do the mod by flashing a zip file.
the "1080" hack is included in some roms with the droid3 camera app.
Mirrorring no clue. sucks i agree. my HTC touch pro had video out with mirroring
1080 was stated they would at first but then pulled it from their spec sheets
I did notice that it was pulled from the factsheet but I didn't know if that means that the feature is not going to happen or what. How difficult is it to flash the build that has the droid3 camera app? And about the vertical mirroring? Better than nothing, I'd say.
Also, though my phone still has Superuser, no Root-required apps can ask for permission, not even the ones that I had given permission to before. So I'd say it is unrooted. SuperOneClick and Gingerbreak do not work.

i would say no for now and hope to be wrong.
not hard at all actually just follow the steps in the pudding thread. flash the sbf in the updates section of the first post.
then u can proceed to follow the steps in unlocking the bootloader. once that is done you can browse the roms with the d3 apk and flash one of those. you will go through a couple of wipes in this process.
Oh well, I am way too unlucky for that to work. Most things that I try just plain doesn't work.

Just having superuser doesnt give you root - you also need the correct SU binary. use the preinstall method to get root: http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/motorola-atrix-hacks/3039-root-2-3-4-using-fastboot.html
if you want unlocked BL for custom roms try:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871
alternately, try the sbf method but this is risky: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182526
HMDI mirroring works in portrait but disables webtop. search the forums and check out this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988852
1080p video is comparatively low quality to 720p. I haven't found a guide for 4.5.91 but you can try an older guide and see if it works for you: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/enable-1080p-hd-video-recording-on-motorola-atrix-4g/

Craptastic gallery app, need replacement?

The stock gallery app is.... garbage IMO. Its constantly reordering my images to some arbitary order instead of by name (very annoying because i have pages of documents scanned and named by page number), just overall it feels rather clumsy, it doesnt animate gif files, no respect for .nomedia, etc.
Yeah, technically this is a question but here goes: What gallery applications do you use? If you could rip the gallery app from any device which would you choose and why?
Personally, im thinking of trying to rip the gallery app from the S2 or the galaxy tab, i know the S2 works well with gif files and thus far has not given me the amount of pain the Asus one has.
what do you think?
only thing I hate is that it won't allow you to rename files in there. so i use Asus file manager to rename. for the pictures or whatever you don't want shown, Quick pic works perfectly to hide whatever you don't want shown. I noticed GIF. don't animate in there also. they do in quickpic. but that's not a big deal for me. Other than that, I actually like the gallery app. its way better than my Ipad stock gallery app. I haven't came across another gallery only app. I'd be up for trying one. as long as its one that doesn't need to make duplicate copies to fill up its own gallery.

+1 on quickpic, you can do so much with it.
put folders the way you like them, move pics around easy and it makes any pic you look at nice and big.
i will never use anything else and ive tried a few.
I also use QuickPic. It is the best gallery app on Android, hands down. Not only is it super fast and responsive, but it is rock solid and has tons of file management and editing options that don't exist inside of the stock Gallery app.
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=quickpic&c=apps
+1 on quickpic - however has anyone used the gallery app on MIUI 4??
I used it on my old desire hd, it was pretty nice!
Gave quickpix a try, it does everything i need. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Choppy 3D-video-PLAYBACK since 4.0.3 Update

Hi,
I'm experiencing severe problems with 3D-video-playback since I updated to ICS last week: They no longer play fluently.
It happens with ALL 3D-videos. Even the ones recorded with the device (BTW: Playback on a PC is still OK. So the camcorder itself is still working correctly).
Once I switch the videos into 2D-mode, everything plays fluently again (even 1080p videos streamed over network).
A complete reset didn't help either (but at least the calendar works again!
I guess there is no hardware defect and I'm not asking for a fix here. I was just wondering if someone else experiences the same problems.
My device: EVO3D GSM unbranded, larger 2048-2nd sensor
PS:
The LG 3D would have been the better choice!
The Evo's 3D-photo-quality is just unbelievably bad. And video-recording in real life does ALWAYS suffer from sudden FPS-drops. Not only in dark scenes, but also with fast motion and flashing-lightsources. The firmware seems to be total crap. I'll probably not buy a HTC phone again.
It already wasted a lot of my time just because it does not work very well. I even started to write my own native-camcorder app (but hoped ICS would fix most problems). I hate apple, but at least their phones work.
Yea.ics has ruined 3d vdo playback.its not really choppy.bt there is micro stuttering which takes the fun out of it.yea should have gone for lg.my fon suffers from light leakage and dust inside screen.and where i live there is no warranty on htc phones.so pretty scrwed i guess.since the ics update as the 3d playback has gone bad i now really regret buyin it.

Thanks for the quick reponse/confirm.
It was more helpful than the reply from HTC (just contacted them for fun... didn't expect something useful as long as I don't get the lucky chance to meet that developer in taiwan who obviously screwed it up
Hope they port Android 4.1 soon.

Try installing something like 'system tuner' from the market and set the governor to 'performance' or/and setting the second core to 'always on'

haven't rooted the device yet.
anyways: playback of 3D-1080-videos in 2D-splitscreen works. So it's not a CPU/GPU-performance problem.
They must have done something wrong with the split + sync of the source-material...
Damn, thought it was just a setting I'd messed with and would eventually find. Please keep us up to date if you find a fix...
Ha thought it was me can't play any mp4 vids even on ms player I'm in chubbz boost ics data speeds are crazy good but Ive had some camera problems and now can't do any video playback... I'm goin back to 2.17 based gb
I thought it was a flash isssue so of course wiped and flashed even changed from 4 ext recovery back to Twrp touch still nothing waiting for this gb Rom to finish going back to synergy
Try installing an app called SD speed booster. Then set the read ahead speed to 2048 or 3072 and see if that helps. If any of you guys have system tuner its an option in the tweaks settings. Also select apply on boot. Hopefully that will help. Let me know if it does. Also you have to be rooted to use both apps.

I tried some other players and now I'm sure there is something wrong with the HW-decoder (since 4.0.3!)
All HW-players show the same behaviour:
- 2D-splitscreen playback @ 30fps = OK (e.g. with that chinese 3dvplayer)
- Switch to 3D => Drop to ~15fps
And sadly there is no software-player that is capable of 720p-playback. The FFMPEG guys should really invest more time in GPU and NEON-ASM ;-)
The bottleneck must lie somewhere between the decoder and the display-driver.

Seconded.
Tried the 4EXTRecovery app to flash Superuser, it seems to require a root access... Whats up with that, isn't it supposed to BE for rooting?
Tried installing Superuser from the apk which seemed to work, but the pref I needed didn't show up (something to do with tuning/syncing USB?).
Any instructions for an easy method (or complicated, as long as it WORKS!) please, stock ICS.
Cheers

If you have 4ext recovery installed just install superuser from the actual recovery. boot vol-down+power, select fastboot then recovery.
If you have standard htc recovery you'll have htc unlock and use the fastboot command from your pc ... from dos prompt type 'fastboot boot recovery.img' (have custom recovery.img in the same directory as your running the command promt from)

Hmm, 4ext didn't work for me, but hearing of HTC recovery led me here - how-to-root-evo-3d - from where I sort of managed it. Anyone else trying it, you won't need HTC's entire SDK zip, all neccesary files are in the one from that link. Also, pay close attention to the comment from a user about step 18 - the ...shooter.img needs to be ...shooteru.img from here - shooteru.img.
So I appear to be rooted now, only there's not much I can do as I appear to have lost my internet settings - I get 'Limited Service' on startup, and no connection at all (I have no Wifi).
Nevermind guys.. figured it out.. check your SD cards my problem was I had gotten a 32gb SD card with no class switched back to my 16gb class 4 and everything just works 2d playback of all types now 3dvplayer actually works I've downloaded acoupl movies no need to get sick flux VIP I think

That's good news, I'm about to get a class 10 card.
My connection problem is sorted too, turns out Tesco's service chose the exact moment I rooted my device to go down. Imagine the odds of that! You wouldn't believe the time / data / hair I lost trying to figure it out, and potentially dangerous things I did to my poor lil Evo!
Hi,
I'm new to this phone and getting the same choppy 3D video playback problem on my ICS 4.0.3 EVO3D too. Been a year, so did you guys ever get a solution to this issue or is it still with us? I tested with a class 10 card already and made no difference to choppy 3D video playback. (besides I think cautious911's class 10 card solution is for an entirely different problem of not being able to play back "any" video rather that the issue of the thread title relating to "Choppy 3D-video-playback")
Thanks in advance for any feedback you have on choppy 3D video playback.

If anyone on the EVO3D with stock 4.0.3 who can report they can playback 3D video recorded by the phone itself or 720p 3D downloaded video from youtube (via tubeMate app) and view it without dropped frames I'd be very interested to hear it.
So from the lack of replies, I have to presume everyone with an EVO3D on stock ICS4.0.3 suffers from choppy 3D video playback.
That blows...

Question about ROMs and the stock Camera APK

I've tried all the current offerings of ROMs, and now ended up back with Stock ROM, just rooted. The reason is, I didn't like the inferior camera apk all the ROMS seem to use, the stock ROMs camera APK takes better pictures. Any reason why ROMs don't/can't use the stock camera APK? If they can, how is everyone installing it, because I've tried and it won't work with ROMs for some reason. This is the only thing holding me back from using ROMs again as I like them better that the factory ROM.

I think HQ Camera is taking better pics than Stock one.But anyway, you always can grab stock camera & push it to your rom & set the permissions. That's all
The HQ camera is always pixilated and blurry for me. So how do you set permissions on the camera apk? When I tried installing it before, it installed but the app and camera icon disappeared.

I tried pushing the stock camera to the Energy ROM, and again the camera disappeared completely, it didn't work. I don't know what else to do here, I want to use a ROM, but I want the stock camera because I think it takes better pictures by far. Nobody else has done this or experienced this??
You should get something like ES File Explorer (should have came with Energy Rom) or Root Explorer (paid app on the PlayStore) so you can browse through your system/app files. But when you push the stock camera app you will also need to change the media_profiles.xml file as well. I actually think you can just replace the media_profiles.xml file only and get the same result.
I attached the stock Camera.apk (its deodexed) and the stock media_profiles.xml... The apk goes to /system/app and the xml goes to /system/etc and the permissions should be set to rw-r--r--
CameraTMO.apk
media_profiles.xml
I have both of those apps and I'll try it this evening, and post my results....thanks!
It worked perfectly! Thank you very much for the help and hosting the files, much appreciated.

Workaround to get to install on Rootbox:
-browse to /system/app with a file browser
-find Gallery2.apk. Rename Gallery2.apk to Gallery2.apk.bak
-exit file browser
-install new camera app as you normally would (sideload)
Optional if you want your old camera and the new one (I did, cause there's more options in the RootBox camera, and it can save to external - the new one can't)
-go back in your file browser, and rename the Gallery2.apk.bak to Gallery2.apk. (it will be at the bottom of the list now due to the .bak extension)
you will now have 2 cameras in your app drawer.
This worked for me (i already had 2 cameras installed by using ponyexpress' sphere fix) and the new camera overwrote pony's sphere camera.
Edit: getting gallery fc when trying to save pics with new cam. Clearing app data didn't seem to solve this. Still messing around trying to get it to work right.
Edit 2: At work, so can't spend too much time with it. If I already have GalleryGoogle.apk installed (from ponyexpress' prior sphere fix) it will install itself as a system app, overwriting pony's fixed sphere camera. If I rename GalleryGoogle.apk to GalleryGoogle.apk.bak before I install, it will install as a user app (presumably because there is no GalleryGoogle.apk in /system/app to overwrite??).
In both cases, the gallery will force close immediately after taking the first photo with the camera. I can re-open the camera app, and take one more shot, then get another gallery force close. The photos I'm taking are being saved, and are viewable in the gallery. Clearing app data for GalleryGoogle.apk in either case does not fix the force close. Also, once I clear app data the UI in the new camera gets mangled - it appears that all the functions still work and are in their proper places, but the icons representing many of them are either wrong or absent. Not sure what to make of this. If installed as a system app, uninstalling updates then reinstalling results in screwed up UI from the get-go.
I've pretty much reached the extent of my troubleshooting knowledge on this - if anyone has any other suggestions, I'll give them a shot. A full wipe may be helpful, but I'm not in a position to do that until after the weekend at the earliest - and I'm not convinced it will change anything. FWIW, I'm on houstonn's RootBox 6/28a build using his included kernel, Banks 4.2.2. multi-dpi gapps, houstonn's ATT NFC fix and as previously stated, pony's sphere camera flashable fix.

I'm certainly not the best person to be comparing quality of camera apps to each other - but it looks about the same, or maybe slightly poorer than the included RootBox camera. This is with minimal testing and a very un-critical eye.
