CWM SD Issue Please Help - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I am trying to flash zip files from my SD card in cmw.. I go to choose zip from sd then after choose external_sd/ when i choose it, it does absolutely nothing( I hit the home button and it says no file exists but i know the files are there). I also manually mounted the SD... I was originally trying to do the fix speaker sound.. But due to the fact i could not get the sd to read, i did it from the internal memory. Now i cannot use my phone app at all it just crashes. I now want to flash a new rom on to fix the issue, but as i said i can't flash the zip from the SD. If anyone can give me some assistance it would be greatly appreciated.

For flashing Roms you ALWAYS put them on your sdcard WHICH IS THE INTERNAL UNREMOVEABLE SDCARD. Your external sdcard on Samsung roms is called external_SD and in cm7 it is called emmc. On stock based roms (Samsung roms) you will always have to put the files on the sdcard NOT the external removeable sdcard.

Sounds like you already have a rom installed. Which one? Or are you still on stock? If stock, you can't flash from stock 3e recovery.
Assuming you have CWM Recovery, put the flashable zip on the root of the internal sdcard *not* the external sdcard, and not in any directory. If your directory structure on the sdcard is fairly long, the files may be hidden at the bottom, and you will have to scroll down to see them. Use the vol+ button to scroll in the up direction is easiest. Then you should be able to install the rom by selecting "install zip from sdcard" and then "choose zip from sdcard". Do not use "choose zip from internal sdcard".

I am running a stock rom rooted.. I was falling a sleep while typing it.. I ment I was trying to choose the rom in CWM.. I saved the ROM on my external SD so i can try to pull the file and flash my phone to it.. What i am saying is when i go to pick the ZIP under in CWM i can't access it. As i wrote in my original post

If you have stock rom plus root by Entropy512, then the kernel is straight stock with 3e recovery, and you can not flash a rom from 3e recovery. You will need to install a kernel which contains ClockworkMod Recovery first. See the guide linked in my signature for detailed instructions on how to do that.
And go back and read both RockRatt's post and my previous post, to learn that you can not install a rom from the external sd card. And you should spend some time reading in general, so you have a basic understanding of what you are doing. And then do some more reading.

Why is it so difficult to put the zipfile on internal sdcard for flashing purposes,
then after flashing using a file manager simply move the zipfile to external sdcard?
Of course if you were using CWM Manager you would not have the
problem in the first place, CWM Manager (apk) can be downloaded
here: http://megaupload.com/?d=TGXMLL1G it is fully compatible with
CWM recovery but you do not need to go into recovery mode.
With this app you will have access to external sdcard with no problem.
It has most of the same options and features as you would see in Rom
Manager but it's fully compatible with our phones and flashable zipfile
roms, kernels, modems and mods. (it even installs apps )apk).
This is a perfect solution to backup and restore roms too.
(fully CWM compatible Nandroid with option to name the backup)
Check it out!

what is update.zip file??

Everytime I flash a new rom I see a file update.zip on my sd card. What is that?? I usually delete it cause I am not sure what it is or if it's something I need to flash after I flash the rom.
Not trying to be offensive, but you should read up on what you're doing to your phone before you do it. An update.zip on the root of your sd is what stock recovery flashes when you select "reinstall packages" from stock recovery. If you have rom manager installed and have clicked on "flash clockwork recovery" then it is more than likely that particular update.zip is the package to load clockwork if you boot into stock recovery and reinstall packages.

^ this.
Don't delete it, i did once and my clockwork got stuck saying FINDING UPDATE.ZIP and then i couldn't flash a rom or anything >.< unless if i odined which i HAD to.
Not clockwork, I am talking stock recovery, blue text not the green clockwork text. That is where that update.zip file is applicable. If you think its a bad copy, you can always delete it, and then within rom manager do the "flash clockwork recovery" to get a new copy of it. Although its my understanding that the flash was not working over the weekend, was sending a bad file or none at all. I can't attach mine, the app won't allow it,I know one was posted here at xda over the weekend, a little searching and you'll find it.

OP,
do you remember when you rooted your phone? There are two methods (the one click method when connected to your PC, or putting the update.zip file on the root of your internal SD card). Both methods require your phone to reboot to get to the stock OEM recovery (blue text as Br1cK'd pointed out). Each method they requires you to "reinstall packages" I think the SGS recovery does not call it "reinstall packages" but "apply sdcard:update.zip." You can not choose a zip file to flash with the stock recovery, it only looks for "update.zip".
Knowing the above you can start to understand the importance of the update.zip files. There are two very important update.zip files. The first is the root update.zip, the second is the clockwork recovery update.zip. I leave the clockwork update.zip in the root of my internal SD card. I also have a folder on my external SD card called "updates-zip", with update-root.zip and update-cwr.zip. Of course if I need to use either I would have to first move them to the root of the internal SD card and rename the to update.zip

Concerning the Clockwork recovery,my ROM Manager lists my current Recovery as 2.5.1.2. When I look under All Clockwork Recoveries it lists 2.5.1.0,2.5.1.1 2.5.1.3 and 2.5.1.4 what are theses?

clockwork not reading ext-sd

I cant get clockwork recovery to see my ext-sd I did a factory reset now I cant restore (nandroid) because it was saved on the ext sd. when I select restore it says no files found. I put the sd card in my computer, sure enough all files are there. when I try to install a new rom, I select install zip form sd card...there isnt a selection for ext-sd. I adb pushed a zip to /sdcard to get a rom installed

Which version of cwm are you using? Maybe flash the most recent recovery again. I prefer romracers.

Some Help please.

Sorry for causing any trouble but does anyone know what happened to my phone? I flashed WanamLite V7.2 ICS rom and i want to install another rom. When i put my phone into cwm recovery i wiped my phone and selected choose .zip file from sdcard but it turns out to be my external sd card. I found the .zip file when i choose choose .zip file from internal sd. So do i just flash using that option? Sorry imma noob ><
Yes. Flash using that option. Some versions of CW Recovery have them the wrong way around.

Trying to install a rom?

I'm having some trouble right now.. I rooted my phone, I put Hellybean onto my microsd card. I booted to android system recovery > reinstall packages, and then i deleted cache, formatted system, deleted the other cache etc.
I tried to find the hellybean zip on my microsd card but it was no where to be found.. So I rebooted my phone and now I have no OS, and when I boot into recovery and go to reinstall packages to try and get back to clockwork mod recovery menu it's not there either (assuming I'm missing the files to go there now).
What can I do guys? Do I need to get 2.3 back on here again and redo everything.. when I get back to where I'm going to flash the hellybean rom how do I find the file on my sd card? I went to SD folder and it wasn't there but I checked my sd card and it is there on the computer.
The ROM zip needs to be on your internal storage.
Mount on your PC, if your internal storage shows move ROM there with update.zip for Clockwork Mod.
Reinstall packages and once in cwm you'll be able to install HB from the zip.
If you can't see internal storage I'd Odin back to stock and then try again.

Sorry I didn't understand what you meant in the beginning. Mount on your pc? Explain a little?
If that doesn't work how do I use Odin to flash back to stock, what do I need to do, i don't need a full detailed guide but just what files and what buttons to press on odin.
There are lots of very detailed Odin guides. Look around. I wasn't real clear at first if you could get in CWM recovery. If you could, then you could Mount Storage and your PC would have seen the internal storage, thus allowing you to put the ROM.zip on it..
Look in the stickies for Odin guide. They are easy to follow. I'd tell you how to do it, but if you read it yourself you'll understand what your doing, and it will help you in the long run.

It concerns me that you said: "Do I need to get 2.3 back on here again"
The t959 never received an official 2.3 update. Does your device have a front facing camera? If so you have the t959v which is a very different device and is in a different section on xda.
sent from the depths of helly bean
The guide to ODIN back to factory stock is in the first sticky thread of this section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
But also make sure you are using the Vibrant and flashing roms for it, not the S 4G.

[Q] unable to apply update from sd card??

So I have a samsung galaxy young s6312, stock android 4.1.2 jellybean, rooted, stock recovery. Now I have been wanting to install cwm recovery on my device since a long long time, and rom manager isn't compatible with my device. I finally found a cwm.zip file for my device somewhere. The site told me to flash it via stock recovery, by the apply update from sdcard option. So I went into recovery, and when I click on apply update from sdcard option, I see only ../ I don't see a list of files on my external sd card. I tried formatting my sdcard, tried reinserting it, nothing worked. Plz guide me how I can flash the file I want to. Thanks....

Install MobileUncle tools, then go to recovery update choose your cwm file and flash
I use a totally different phone, anyhow, see if there is a "Mount sdcard" option somewhere in your recovery before you go to apply update.
BTW, ".." stands for up directory (just in case). And "." is the current directory.
Extremely sorry for my absence.....
No, no mount sdcard option anywhere in recovery
