Rooting - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hi all
First i know there is loads of threads about rooting the galaxy ace on these forums but i am new to the rooting scene, so i would like somebody to point me to an easy guide that will do it. I also need to be able to unroot as well for warranty purposes.
My build number is XWKPY and gingerbread 2.3.3
Hope somebody can help as i need to remove the stock samsung bloat and possibly flash a new rom, which one would be the best as i need everything to work and must be the original google gingerbread experience.
Thanks Guys, hope to hear about this soon.

check out Android Development section man !

I read that but my firmware is not listed, thats why i am asking for help about this.
The Kiess software i have says i have the latest firmware.
Would that method still work with the firmware i have???.

This method works for 2.3.3 / 2.3.4 / 2.3.5. Here you go:
1. Download "upd_1.zip" (Attached).
2. Put it in your SDcard.
3. Switch off your phone
4. Reboot into Recovery mode by pressing HOME + POWER buttons at the same time (release power button while still holding home button till the white colored Samsung logo shows up).
5. Using volume buttons navigate to "install update from sdcard" or "apply update from sdcard" (I can't really remember what it is called).
6. Press Home button when you navigate over it to select it.
7. Select the file "upd_1.zip" by pressing Home button over it.
8. Reboot your phone in normal mode.
To check that you sucessfully installed, just goto your AppDrawer and look for an app called "Superuser". If it is there, you have sucessfully flashed, if not try repeating above steps.
To unroot; just download "unroot.zip" (Attached) and follow the above steps, instead selecting "upd_1.zip" select "unroot.zip" to unroot your phone!

Thanks, I have rooted and got rid of some of the samsung bloat and then un rooted.
It worked fine, thank you

The Official Galaxy Player 3.6 Hangout Thread

In light of the fact that the Gplayer 3.6 and 4.2 do not have thier own forum due to EXTREMELY low activity (as in maybe 6 users), I have decided to create a big "General" thread, to help you guys out. I will also link to 3.6 threads, so you have them in one easy to locate location. If I miss one, be sure to point it out!
What belongs in here:
General...stuff.
Pertinent questions about your Player (I will do my best to answer them)
Questions about developing/making mods
helpful info/constructive criticism (NO flaming!)
Potentially stupid questions (Hey, what's general for if not to help out new users?)
What does NOT belong here:
OMG Guyzz, this player rulezzz!!
Questions/ideas about rooting (the 3.6 already has a rooting thread, and a pre-rooted ROM somewhere in there)
Unhelpful/random comments unrelated the the Gplayer 3.6
With that said (to hopefully make this thread as ueful as possible), let the question-asking begin!
This is where I will put useful links/howto's.
3.6 Rooting thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439884
I know you said no questions about rooting, but there are a thousand links in that thread and it isn't very clear which ones should be used.

Well, none of them actually, as the only thing that works is a prerooted ROM, which I am sure someone will link to if you ask about it .

Look at this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29700613&postcount=184
But if you don't have a physical home button it isn't advised to flash it because the home button won't work. Like all flashes it is "dangerous", so do it on your own risks
flashing this rom is not more dangerous than flashing an official rom
Thanks, I figured that the ROM was the only way. And you mean the home softkey doesn't work? It would be pretty hard to use without that.
On another note, I haven't quite figured out the key combinations for download and recovery (been using adb commands), and that might be a good thing to include in your op.

nope. noone has it. it has been said to get the stock rom, you need to find someone with 3.6 on android 2.3.5 and update it through KIES, during update KIES will save the rom into temporary folder on the computer, get it from there.

Dang if only I could get the CF-root kernel working (Which I will work on today) I had the /system folder of someone I don't remember and then we could flash the .zip and you could have the US rom back.

We don't need the rom, but we need to have someone who has the stock rom on their device so we can extract the files
YP-GS1 Bluetooth dialing bug
An observation on a very annoying bug on the YP-GS1 Galaxy Player 3.6 (GINGERBREAD.UELB5)...
One of the advertised features of the Galaxy Player 3.6 is its ability to act as a Bluetooth handset.
To initiate a call, one must go to Applications -> Contacts and tap on the phone number one wishes to dial.
EXCEPT... it doesn't work if there are multiple phone numbers listed for a particular contact.
If there are multiple phone numbers for a particular contact, it doesn't matter which phone number one taps.
The Galaxy Player 3.6 always dials the first phone number listed.
Setting another number as default, etc. doesn't make any difference.
So, the only workaround is to create multiple contact entries, each with only one phone number.

Boot animation.
I've noticed the boot animation for this device is a .qmg format. I would love to be able to change to boot animation, but unfortunately, the only thing I can do ATM is disable the animation by renaming the "bootsamsung.qmg" file to something else. I am running the rooted stock ROM. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Would it work if we edited the build.prop or another system file to trick the player, and KIES, into thinking the player was on 2.3.5. Then, KIES would update it to 2.3.6. Possible?

Good afternoon, a question I have a Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6 that takes this into your screen "Firmware Upgrade Encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" obviously I did not get any results, kies or recognize the device ... any help would be great thanks!

can anybody help me with this? can anyone get me the Tar file for the boot logo? is there anyway to load CWM on this device?

[Q] Casio G'zone Commando Custom ROM

Hello. Maybe some of you have heard of a certain phone known as the Casio G'zone Commando. It is rugged phone from Verizon, and I think it is time that someone develops a custom rom. Even with all of the bloat uninstalled, it still freezes up every once and awhile. This phone isn't very popular, so not many people have tried a get a custom rom on it. Through my research, this is what I found out: The Commando doesn't have a way to get into a recovery menu (there is no key combanation) However, I know that Getitnowmarketing has posted a working recovery on androidforums.com, but you still need to hook it up to a computer to use it. So what does this have to do with custom roms? Also, what is a bootloader, and how would I unlock it on the Commando?? I really need some help. If no one will volunteer, I may just try to pull this off, but first, I am gonna need some education on custom roms and technical android stuff. Thank you!
I have been fooling around with the commando as well, and have found that if you have it connected to your laptop and while booting up you press the power+camera+vol down buttons it will pull up a hard reset screen. During this time I also had Odin3 v1.70 and it shows under the ID:COM - 0:[COM51] highlighted in yellow. Could we at this point download custom firmware, or possibly root?
Any help would be appreciated!

That's very interesting! I think this means that there is a way to recover your phone if something goes wrong!
Unfortunately, I still don't know if this is enough. Somehow we need to get an expert to help answer our questions...
Hopefully one of our devs will be a real sweetheart and get ICS rolling on this device.
There are there no known ICS ROMs for this device???
No, there is not an ICS or JB rom for this device. I don't know if it would be able to run stock JB and ICS well considering it is 800 mhz (I've heard somewhere the recommended ICS speed is 1 ghz), but overclocking is always an option (I think overclocking is easier on custom roms). Also, JB or ICS may run better on it with some customization.
But either way, a custom rom, whether it be based on Android 4.x or 2.x would be great! I would learn how to do things like unlocking the bootloader and making custom roms, but time is an issue for me. I just wish there was a dev out there willing to do this. I would even consider donating!

Is the commando a 4g one or the first commando? I'm asking because I have the c771 but it only has 2.3.3 gingerbread
Sent from my Xperia Play using xda premium
Yeah I actually realized his is the 4g one neither version seems to have very much support of any kind I wonder if it would be possible to take the ics rom off the new one and make it work on the old one but that is far beyond my scope most I can get is a file dump from the 4g the rest would have to be left to much more capable hands lol all I can even find on the 4g version is rooting it

I've found a few methods to root it. You just need adb and google lol
My dad has the original commando, and his upgrade is in April. It's a ways off, but I may be able to make a port of CM for it from my OG droid CM7 rom since they are similar. I'm not sure yet, since I've never tried making a CM port before, but I'll give it a shot after I get my new phone and customize it around the same time. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to release a stable port for it.

Flash official ROM

Hi!
A friend of mine has a Samsung Galaxy SII with a CM nightly installed. He upgrades the ROM a few days ago and he lost the SIM unlock that I previously made to the phone.
We tried to re-unlock the device, but we can not.
I think that a possible good way to solve the problem is to flash an official ROM from Samsung and then, root it again, unlock again and, if all the previous steps are OK, flash (or not) a new custom ROM (CM or maybe Paranoid).
I'm downloading the latest ROM for SGS2 for our country (Spain), and we have Odin ready to be used, but I cannot find any thread on this forum that explains, step by step, how to flash an official ROM.
In addition, do you have any other idea to fix my friend's mobile instead flashing an official ROM?
Best regards
P.S. I already found a post for flashing the latest stock ROMs. Sorry!
I find it really hard to believe that you've searched and found nothing when it comes to a Odin guide.
Odin is a popular software and it's problems have been covered several times..
Do you know what download mode is?

Hi!First of all, download this firmware. It's Android 4.0.3 XWLP7.After it finished downloading, extract it,so you will have a .tar.md5 file, and then open Odin.Make sure Kies is stopped. Then,on your mobile:make sure it's charged, and in Settings enable USB debugging. Then enter Download Mode(Hold POWER + HOME + VOL DOWN buttons together until it enters download mode). Now connect it to your PC.In Odin,Click PDA,and select the extracted firmware file.Make sure "Re-Partiton" and "Flash Lock" are unticked. Then Click start. It will take ~ 5 min. to flash the new ROM.After completed, disconnect it from PC.It maybe won't boot/it will be stuck in bootloop. Now enter Recovery(hold POWER + HOME + VOL UP buttons, until it restarts and shows up the "Galaxy S2 GT-I9100" screen. Now let the buttons go.In recovery(you can navigate with VOL UP/VOL DOWN buttons , and select with POWER button) select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset",or something similar.Select yes.It will take ~ 3-8 min. to wipe. That's it,you have restored your Galaxy S2! At the boot,it may ask for ask for an unlock code.Click cancel. If you want to unlock it,then download this app([root] Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock).Click SIM Unlock code, write it down, and once it asks for the code at reboot, type it in.If you want to root it,follow along.Download this file, and put it on your phone`s EXTERNAL SD! card. Now reboot into Recovery. In recovery, select "Install update from external storage", or something similar, and search the downloaded file.Install it.Now reboot. You don't have to wipe anything. That's it!

That's it!

Thanks for your explanation, it is very complete. I made the same, but with a newer stock ROM (a 4.1.2 one), and I got it installed and rooted with PhillZ method.
The problem is that I cannot unlock the SIM: I tried with the program you suggested me, and it doesn't work: it brings me a code, but when I enter it, it doesn't work.
I tried other programs like Galaxy_S Unlock or GalaxSim Unlock, but I'm not able to get it unlocked. What can the problem be?
Edit: I "close" this thread and re-open it with a better explanation on the current situation and the real problem now.
Best regards

[Q] HELP! Rooted phone stuck in Samsung Galaxy SII screen.

Hello,
Please help!... I am unable to use my phone after doing something that maybe I shouldn't have done!!
First let me go through some steps that led to the phone becoming unusable.
1) First I successfully rooted the phone (using instructions off the net)
2) I tested the rooting by clicking on the SuperSU App and granting the necessary permissions.
3) Next I downloaded the Titanium Backup and successfully backed up my phone
4) Then I decided to go back into the SuperSU (just to see what kind of things I could do with the superuserApp)... and a POP-UP Window appeared. Now I really can't remember the exact message but it basically was asking me if I wanted to perform some sort of conversion. Without giving it too much thought and like an idiot I just clicked on YES. The phone then rebooted and remained STUCK on the screen where the "Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100" message flashes up with a yellow triangle exclamation mark below (please see attached pic). It doesn't matter how long I wait or how many times I reboot the phone remains stuck on this screen.
Please note the following:
-- If I press (Volume Up + Home button + Power button) simultaneously the same screen appears (ie the Samsung Galaxy message) however long I keep the buttons pressed.
-- If I press (Volume Down + Home button + Power button) I get something different happening ie A warning message about custom OS (see attached pic) and when I press the Volume Up button to continue I get the screen with the Android symbol and the word downloading below it with some ODIN Mode information at the top of the screen (see attached pic).
I'm praying AND got my fingers arms & legs crossed that I haven't "bricked" the phone!!
Please please help!... I would really appreciate your assistance in getting my phone working again (if it's at all possible now).
Oh and apologies if I have posted in the wrong area.
Many thanks in advance.
Kieron
@Kieron139 as far as I know you have done something to your system which doesnt allows it to fully boot aka soft brick. The yellow triangle is just an download counter a bit. But you can reset that but I only did that when I sold it, triangle is cool.
What you can try is to download Odin on pc, follow odin guide in general I believe for the s2 and flash back to stock.
Tip: dont turn off your phone if download mode failed, just reconnect the cable.
@wulsic ... many thanks for the quick reply!
I have the ODIN program, I used it (with the appropriate jar file) when I rooted the phone. However I'm not sure how to flash is back to stock using the odin program, also I'm new to this site so can you tell me where I can find the odin guide explaining how to do this... or if there is a "how to"thread explaining step by step how to flash back to stock?
Kieron
@wulsic... I managed to find step by step instructions to flash back to stock, however as well as the ODIN program it says I need to have a copy of my stock ROM.... but where do I get this from?
@Kieron139 it tooksome timemy tablet hanged but here is a guide,
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...e-guide-using-odin-de-bloat-root-recover.html
You only need to find the galaxy s2 stock rom from internet and download it, the flash it in pda and see the guide for more details. Make sure you have the s2 firmware not aother one.
Edit: :/ that post timing. But I will find a link for you now.
@Kieron139 here find the s2 firmware from sammobile.com and samsung-updates.com
@wulsic ... that's super! will access the links, download the ROM and let you know how I get on!... but it may take me a little longer than it should as I'm going to take my time and follow the instructions carefully so I don't muck it up lol
@Kieron139 No problem, take the time. Better to do it slowly then bricking your phone. I will respond as fast as I can when you have a question but I can't answer directly maybe when your rom download is done. Goodluck! :good:
@wulsic ... I think I still need your help with identifying the correct stock ROM file. The two links you gave, I couldn't work out how to search for the file in the first one but in the second one when I searched using my model (ie GT-i9100) I got a list of downloads to choose from for different regions. Now I'm based in London UK and the phone is unlocked but was with the Three.co.uk network provider (I'm not sure if this information is relevant but I thought I'd mention it just in case). Anyway I've attached a screen shot of a part of the list that comes up but its not the compete list.
Please note I found another link describing how to flash back to stock and it mentions I need a file called "I9100XWLSW_I9100XXMS2_I9100XEULS5_HOME.tar.md5".
Anyway could you please help me with choosing which firmware file I need to download?
Thanks
@wulsic Ooops forgot to attach the screenshot in prev reply
@Kieron139 in the first one you had to go to firnware, scroll down then enter device.
You dont need the exact android stock version from xwlsw just find a stock one from the 2 sites I provided and then download and flash it. I am trying to find and copy one for you but my tablet keyboard doesnt show up always, lowramdevice.
I see you tagged me again before I could finis typing my message xd.
I suggest to use xwms3 since its the latest stock version and should also work fine with your phone in UK.

Any of the firmwares on the above screenshot should be fine as they all are genuine samsung stock roms for i9100
Download one of them and follow the guide which wulsic posted and you will be fine :good:
@wulsic ...ok will do, and sorry for being a pain! just want to make sure I don't go installing the wrong one
@-shaMe- Thanks
@wulsic Great news!... phones working again! :victory: :good::good::good:
Thank you so much for you help and for your patience!
I now have a working phone again
Best regards
Kieron
@Kieron139 Nice now if you have that problem again you know now how to fix it.
Also an tip for if you start flashing custom roms like cyanogenmod, recovery and kernel are builtin one boot.img so if you flash an recovery for stock but you have cyanogenmod then the rom will not boot anymore. (Cyanogenmod and other custom roms have recovery also builtin their rom.)
If your boot.img is corrupted and recovery/rom doesnt boot anymore then I suggest to flash an recovery with odin instead of reflashing the whole stockrom.
@wulsic ... Thanks for the tip!
Btw I'm still a bit new to this site but how do I "thank" someone for their help?... some sites have a button next to the replies which you can click to say if the reply was helpful, couldn't see anything like that here?
A couple of other quick questions. I'm very happy with my Samsung Galaxy SII but it is frustrating that it no longer receives any software upgrades/improvements. So which custom rom would you recommend? ie is cyanogenmod the best one?... also once a custom rom is installed can the phone still be rooted?
Cheers
K
@wulsic Ignore the "how to thank someone" question in my last message... I wasn't logged in so couldn't see the thanks button!! lol
@wulsic
There's a bunch of custom ROMS mentioned in the link below which will update my phone to android 4.4.4. What do you think of the ROMs and which would you recommend?
K
@wulsic
Ooops forgot to include the link! lol

[Q] root for Samsung XCover3 (SM-G388F)

Hello, ive got some Problems with my ne Xcover3
Because the builtin SAP Profile is not working with my cars telephone unit (Premium Volkswagen)
i want to use the app "android-rsap" but there is root needed.
No idea how to get it without bricking the phone.
So it would be very nice to get help by experienced peolpe like you
Thanks ahead
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. I can't find anything on XDA on how to root that specific device. but it looks like you can copy the latest SuperSU.zip to your phone and then flash it in recovery. Also see this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
Thank you, but if i understand SuperSU right, the phone must be rooted first?
iam a bit confused
also i think the knox Trigger will be hit?
To use the SuperSU app you need to be rooted. The zip file you flash in recovery. I don't know if it'll trip knox but I'm guessing, yes.
ok i will life with that, so let me tell you my following Actions:
i download: UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46
put it to my sdcard and reboot in save mode (pressing 3 home on and volume up)
but what to to next? and is the device rooted after that?
sorry but iam not familar with android
I don't know your device and I can't find any information on XDA about it, but can you boot into recovery and find where it allows you to install a zip from the sdcard? You'd need to do that.
in the menü there is a Point:
"update from external device" i can navigate in the folders
but i can´t select the zip file (i put it to the root of the Card)
or should it be extracted?
thank you
Root (sm-g388f)
I would also like root rights on this unit ...
I've done over the recovery flash su version 1.8x but after the start I had the phone off third-party applications with the message "Safe Mode" and it could not be repaired other than by re-recording the original ROM
The question is jerstli version 2.46 or 2.49 beta version can handle it
I will be glad for the advice
... I am sorry for my bad English
i just started 2.46 now i see the andriod logo and downloading ....
do not disconnect usb cable
during the Software update
i think this is showing since 5 minutes nothing happens
do i have a brick now?
My own opinion ... I would have left it until the spawn either error messages or will Torch: D
EDIT: But let me know if you succeeded or not .. or what it's done
phone and Akku are quite warm
but no Change on the Screen
how Long should this Action usually take?
please reply from somebody who did such a update already?
i interupted the process
phone is starting, no root
and biggest Problem so far recovery menue not acessable
allways try to Flash die zipfile
but i allready removed it from the sdcard, so i think its in a Cache?
any idea how to fix that?
ok iam a bit stupid
power + home + vol up = recovery menu
power + home + vol down = flashing from external source?
so no Problem right now but no root
We're going to have to leave it to someone smarter ... or I do not know stim board ... I think you need to unlock the bootloader and perhaps ?? something ??
Hi guys. This thread has gone beyond the scope of XDA Assist so I'm going to ask that it be moved here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help Others with your device may see it and be able to help you
ok thank you, hope this will help
somebody sugested to install first twrp and with twrp it should be able to Flash the su.zip
but as my googleing tells me it must be a specific Version of twrp for the xcover 3 but nothing to find right now
any ideas
I'm not sure but maybe it was a flash from another phone with the same hardware but I do not understand. I calmly tried but we have to order the phone has the same or at least similar specifications
:cyclops:
you are right i think the last galaxy neo is quit similar
Do you mean this model? SAMSUNG GALAXY NEO i9060
Or send what you think
the Galaxy J1 4G nearly got the same specs , same board same cpu .. different ram and camera
but its also not rootable ;(
