[Q] Liquid Smooth 3.0 problems - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just installed latest version. Cleared delvik/cache with latest CWR. Booted fine but many things are wrong. "android.process.media has stopped" is the first thing to pop up. The calling and people commands respond with "could not launch requested activity" Also, Im not able to sync my google acct with my contacts, etc- which is probably a lack of navigating this rom enough.
Ive flashed 4 different roms with no notable problems. what could be going on here?
a thought-ive only had to wipe dalvik/cache, in reboot options "wipe data/factory reset it an option. surely that is not necessary, ya?
apologies if i didnt find a proper related thread before posting. any help would be greatly apprectiated.

When I flash a new rom I always do a full wipe data cache and dalvik. Also make sure you aren't restoring any red system apps in titanium.....
My name is Revos I'm a recovering flashaholic running Liquid Gingerbread 3.0

in the option "wipe data/factory reset" its the factory reset part that makes me unsure its safe.
with the other roms ive run, the verbage has been slightly different and i just want to be sure im not going to brick or something.
ill look into the titanium thing thanks for the reply

[Q] Is it good to wipe dalvik's cache before flashing new rom?

As you all know, before installing new rom we we have to wipe data and cache in recovery...
But do we have also to wipe dalvik's cache?
As you read on every ROM thread, it is advisable to do a CLEAN wipe meaning all of it before installing a different rom. I personally don't find any difference between wiping and not wiping.
When upgrading CyanogenMOD nightlies wiping is pointless, and a waste of time. When switching between Sense-based ROMs and CM etc. then a full wipe is recommended, but not always needed. Wiping dalvik cache will never hurt
Just a thought here, but isn't DC in /data ? So if you wipe data you wipe DC as well, no?
I've been flashing Mdj Droid L2.1.110210 rom but the only thing I am seeing is the HTC screen for over 10 minutes. Is there anybody helps me to solve this issue? I am newbie so I cannot post in Mdj Droid L2.1.110210 topic.
Thank
I always wipe because it cleans the dust. As GrammarFreak said, when switching between CM nightlies, it is pointless as of the minor changes that come with them. But switching to an entirely new ROM (like stock -> CM) I thin it is better to wipe everything. The cause: Android DO collect junk, and a clean system is always nice.
Regarding contact, sms and other app data: backup to phone and cloud, simple as hell.
thanks for the advice. so if you flash anew rom, do u lose all ur apps every time? i'm flashing ics on my g2 alpha 8 right now. so i will find out soon enough

In my experience (using a HTC Desire HD) you only lose your apps and settings when you perform a full-wipe before flashing a new rom. When you update your rom without wiping, your settings and apps are not removed. However, I personally like to do a full-wipe before flashing a rom, because it clears out al the dust and gives you a fresh new phone.
If you don't want to lose your apps and data, but you do want to wipe, you can offcourse always use Titanium Backup to make a backup of the apps and data.
Just do it! It's free (costs only a slightly longer startup the first time after you wipe dalvik)!

in my experience, this happens when you dont clear the cache prior to updating the rom. in my case, I had to re-apx mine, since I didnt figure this out until I had tried the factory rom. good thing I had the SBK and CPUid, or it would have been even a more painful experience!

[Q] Help - BAMF 3.0 RC3

Apologies in advance for being such a n00b.
I'm currently running CM7 RC1.1 with the MR2 radio on my rooted TBolt.
Heard lots of good things about BAMF 3.0 and thought I'd give it a try.
Did a complete wipe. Installed. Immediately after boot, things started going wrong. Lots of crashes even before I could sign into my Google Acct, VZW appeared briefly and went away altogether, and I couldnt connect to any wifi network.
Tried a few reboots. Reflashed the MR2 radio. Did a complete reset. Still no success.
I'm back on CM7 now but very keen on trying BAMF. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

Did you flash BAMF from ROM Manager or Recovery. Don't flash from ROM Manager. Flash it directly from the recovery. Also try wiping multiple times.
I did flash from recovery. Will try multiple wipes this time. Just to be clear, which selection in recovery is the proper one for a complete wipe?
Thanks for the idea!

Errors on startup with FTS v2.4 ROM

I have my phone rooted and installed the FTS V2.4 ROM onto my phone, followed the install instructions. On startup I get a force close error, The application Motorola services (process.com.motorola.service.) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. I then get the process com.motorola.home.other has stopped. Everything else works fine. I do get another error when trying to place an email and date & time widget. Is there a fix for this? It doesn't stop the phone from functioning just would like to fix it.
That is usually caused by a bad flash or incomplete wipe. Go back into the recovery wipe everything a couple of times reflash the rom and that should take care of it. I have had that happen on multiple phones with multiple roms.

So after booting into recovery I do wipe data/factory reset a couple times? Anything else I should wipe a couple times? And then do install zip from sdcard? Also, my friend said after it installs I should leave it for 10-20 minutes, is this true?
you can manually wipe the cache and dalvic cache 2 or 3 times each then factory reset a couple times then flash your rom again. What has happened is you have ssome files from the old rom and some files from the ne rom this causes the issues you are seeing. You could probably just factory reset a couple of times Cauculin? has made a special wipe becuase of these issues sometimes it doesn't format right that's why you need to do the multiple wipes to be sure it took.
Similar problem on virgin Razr
I get this each time I reboot " process com.motorola.home.other has stopped unexpectedly, Please try again. Force close. FC is my only option.
It has appeared a few other times but with no regularity. Like the OP I still have full function and use but I'm sure it is a sign of possibly other problems brewing.
From what I have read it looks as if a complete reset might be the only cure but I'm hoping to find another solution.
Q: Is "com.motorola.home.other" actually a file, or does it refer to a file that could possibly be copied back over from a backup if it is corrupt.
While writing this post this problem occurred again after closing an app, which has me even more concerned.
Many thanks

[Q] Voice calls

Im unable to make voice calls through the Phone app. It will connect, then make no noise (ie no ringing). Same if i receive a call, i hit accept and i hear nothing, nor can the person calling me hear anything. I can use the voice search/navigation, and i can use other voice apps (ie voxer) just fine. SMS works, as does 3g, and im not getting any error messages.
Phone is GT-I9100, Kernel is Siyah 3.1rc6, running D4rom (ICS). I've tried 3 seperate roms (Omega v11, D4, and Slim (all ICS)) all having the same issues. Im assuming this is an issues with ICS (or more likely something i didnt update prior to switching) but ive spent about 6 hours now trying to find out what is causing it.
I realize downgrading would solve this, but i'd rather find out what my issue is and fix it. any ideas?
Flash again, but this time full wipe, it happened to me once on d4 rom, this should do it
Edit: have you tried wanamlite with siyahkernel? If you follow the below, you shouldn't have a problem.
A. Ensure FULL wipe;
1. System
2. Cache
3. Data
4. Dalvik cache
B. Immediately Flash ROM
C. Let boot and initial setup
D. Check if phone dialer and choice calls are ok?
E. If ok, Restore only user apps and data. NO System crap. Recheck
F. Reboot and setup accounts. Recheck

Still no luck. Flashed 3 times, once with D4 again, twice with wanalite. did factory reset, manually wiped /data, /system, /cache, and Dalvik cache. after doing initial run (i didn't set up my gmail account, since i need wifi for that (data cap is annoying)) i tried to make a call, and it still wont ring. At first it would end the call after 15's or so. after restarting it it would go longer, usually until i end it. SMS still works, as does 3g data.
I got an error this time setting up the clock, but it was only visible for about 2s. It was something to do with setting the time, if i can get it again ill try to write it down.
Also, when wiping the Dalvik cache i get this :
E:unknown voluem for path [/sd-ext]
Dalvik cache wiped
any other advice?
I finally downgraded to GB rom (unnamed). Phone worked fine, as well as everything else. Ty for your help though, It was greatly appreciated.
Also, i noticed prior to updating it that the search and back buttons didnt do anything. IDK if this is normal or not, i dont use those buttons much.
Very strange after fresh full wipe and flash, and test without setup of the different ROMs
Edit: Have you tried flashing some of the alternative ICS modems found in the modem thread? Maybe yours doesn't like the modem packaged with the ROM.
If that doesn't work, what if you flash one of Intratech official or Frankenstein firmware. You'll need to re-root after and flash cwm again.
That error with the Dalvik is ok. Forget why, answer will be found with some searching though. If you look carefully, it would have said "Dalvik cache wiped"

[Resurrection Remix] Any way to disable forced factory reset before bootloader

Hey guys,
I'm wondering if there is any way to disable the forced factory reset if you go to bootloader via key combo. Picture: www[dot]upload[dot]net/file/d/4686/sgyhu6up_jpg.htm
It's really annoying to reinstall and reverify all apps if I install the latest update of the resurrection remix.
So would be great if someone could give me a hint.

First of all, can't view the picture so not 100% sure what you're referring to but I'm pretty sure I know what you're asking about. So, on all LG phones pretty much, when you use the button combo to get to recovery, it comes up factory data reset screen and ask you to select yes or no and you have to select yes two times and are brought to TWRP. If that's what you're referring to, it has nothing to do with RR and everything to do with LGs bootloader. If you have TWRP installed selecting yes does nothing except brings you to TWRP, it does not factory reset anything. Installing an update to RR doesn't reset anything either unless you manually wipe stuff within TWRP. Only thing that sometimes gets affected by installing update is it all ask for super user rights on apps again, but no way around that and it may ask you to set some programs as default again (like if you use a different messaging app instead of stock). So, again, the reset screen is not related to RR but instead the bootloader but did nothing except bring you to TWRP. Installing an update doesn't erase your data or apps unless you manually wipe them within TWRP. If you're doing a dirty flash (just updating) no reason to wipe anything except cache and davlik after it finishes flashing, and then it doesn't erase any apps or data. Only wipe system, data, etc if you're trying to do a clean install. In that case, I recommend using titanium backup to backup and restore all apps and app data.
Hey, thanks for the fast response, and yes the thing with the factory data reset was exactly what I meant.
That when TWRP is installed it doesn't wipes the data is very good to know, I sadly found nearly nothing about this.
So I think the problem is solved with your answer.
Thanks and have a nice weekend.
