Hello :
I am trying to flash my Continuum with Froyo 2.2.2, and I am confused about the steps involved. Can someone please clarify?
1. Do I need to formally "root" the phone using SuperOneClick v2.1.1 before I flash ClockworkMod recovery?
2. Will just flashing CWM via these steps also take care of rooting, or do I need to formally root first?
Thank you for taking a moment to answer these questions. I am extremely grateful.
Yes, you have to root (using Superoneclick first, and have it before flashing CWM).

Please can anyone show me a way to root my phone which has 2.2.1. Is the only way to go back to 2.2? Can I go back to 2.2 without obtaining root?
Thanks.
yes you must downgrade to 2.2 using kdz (you don't need root to do this). There are lots of guides on this forum on how to do it.
Thank you for your reply and advice
Hi all,
I have spent the past two weeks rooting my phone, trying to install CM7 and then failing everytime with a permission verification error when flashing clockwork mod.
Could someone please give me a step by step guide to rooting and installing a decent rom on an CPW SGS2 with the following settings:
baseband: i9100xxke7
kernel: 2.6.35.7-i9100xwkf3
buildnumber: gingerbread.xwkf3
I would be eternally grateful as I scoured so many threads but to no avail.
Thanks in advance
I can say Chainfire's rooting process is the Simplest yet effective most out there, not interested in CM or whatever out there, so if you want CF guide, then read his thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399.
After rooting you will have Yellow triangle and to remove that you will need Samsung signed kernel and you will find it from here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278.
The above two threads have more than enough information on rooting, so just go on.
Regards.
Thanks for the information - this is the root method that I did before which worked but I couldn't install CM7 - is it necessary to remove the yellow triangle ? Will this prevent me installing other ROMs?
I don't think so. Some users are using their phone with the YT without any problem afaIk.
I will give it a go and respond with my results. Cheers for the information.
I gave it a go and still ran into problems - had a look round and installed litening ROM. That took literally 5 minutes and didnt involve manual root permission. Definitely a android beginners friend. Fixed the volume problem aswell! happy days

Hey willcass, did you have to root your phone first than install the Litening Rom?
or did you just follow the step by step instructions?
Cause my phone is not rooted, and I'm wondering if I can just install the rom without having my SCS2 rooted.
Thx!

Hi.. That link you posted is to root android 2.2 and 2.1 ... Not for 2.3 gingerbread..
If u want to root your phone the safest and easiest way to do is flash a stock rooted (name of file).md5 thru Odin..
Odin= computer program that is used to flash stock roms and modems on Samsung phones
(name of file).md5 is a file that u need to download for your phone..
U can google rooting epic 4g 2.3.6 on xda and yolk for a way to root via Odin..
U can also YouTube rooting via Odin.. Super easy.. Happy rooting!
Also after rooting thru Odin u can install a custom recovery thru Odin so u can install roms thru ur memory card..
Hey guys,
I recently discovered CyanogenMod, and decided that I might like to install it on my Galaxy S II - However, I am very new to rooting and installing these things, and I don't even know if it's possible.
Can someone give me a step-by-step guide on how to do this?
Thanks in advance

Get your pc setup to use Odin. Then you can flash siyah-s2-v4.1.5.tar directly.....which gives you root/cwm and safe kernel.
Then backup efs folder and make nand backup.
Then visit the rom thread you like and follow instructions.
Or you can root using recovery method in my sig and flash the .zip version of siyah.
Hi,i'm a newb and noob in rooting.
Now i upgraded to 4.4.4 and is in 23.0.1.A.0.167
Previously i am not rooted, if i want to root now, what should i do at first?
do i need to backup TA??do i need to unlock bootloader??can someone give me step by step what to do first and the steps after that..
I only root to run an app which requires root, otherwise i would not want to root it..
Thank you and your reply is much appreciated.
See the thread, create your own rooted stock, do that and you shall have a rooted stock ROM.
