[Q] Newbie SGSII user questions - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I've just bought a SGSII. Before, I had a Motorola Milestone with CM7 for Milestone (thanks kabaldan!!). I'm thinking about flash CM7 on my SGSII but I want to know some things.
1) Is CM7 for SGSII similar to CM7 for Milestone? Because I hate the samsung home launcher, notification bar, etc. I want stock calendar and nothing of "social hub" or similar crap apps.
2) Is there another ROM similar to CM7 or better? I don't like themes, just the original GB is OK.
3) What version of CM7 I must flash? I've been reading a lot of threads about, stable but *not* stable version, nightly version (every day), etc. How much important are the bugs on the last nightly versions?
Thanks.

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

1. cm7 is identical for every phone
2. no idea
3. just flash the latest nightly

[Q] Gingerbread

Hi All,
I'm new to modding my phone and recently flashed it with Cyanogenmod Froyo 2.2.
I want to flash it with Gingerbread but have seen that there are memory leak problems with Cyanogens.. In fact today they ave decided to pull support for the device.
What are my options for getting Gingerbread onto my Hero GSM??
I have seen Elelinux's mod highly spoke of, but it is based on Cyanogen mod (i think). Does it too have the same memory leaks??
Thanks in advance!
Cyanmod have Officially Ceased supporting the HTC HERO as they don't have a DEV supporting the Developement for the HERO
THE LAST Cyanmod for HERO is I Guess version 7.02 and thats it
Elelinux's Gingerbread is Based on the CM7 but He does his own tweaks as well you can always check the thread for what problems people are reporting for the ROM
There is another GIngerbread ROM by 'Cronos' which you could try, but you will have to google for it as I don't think I might get away with posting links here
google for 'cronos project'
I have used elelinux's Roms a lot so like his work but is personal choice and thats what XDA offers it members 'CHOICE'
Don't make assumptions about ROMS .
Try them yourself and stick to the one you like the best
in his latest version (2.0), elelinux included a special patch that has to be flashed separately after flashing the ROM, and on my Hero it reduced the amount of black screens and invisible menus by a great deal. They still show up every now and then, but only when doing memory-intensive stuff. Go check out the thread
Haven't tried Cronos yet, but they also get some good credit I believe.

[Q] What is the most complete and stable custom Rom?

I've had my streak since launch which is pretty much a year now and I've been looking to take the plunge and smack a nice custom ROM on my streak.
Of course I want gingerbread etc but my problem is that there seems to be a distinct lack of Custom ROMs being finished.
It used to be the case on a phone that there would be great stable ROMs with incremental updates to fix little annoyances here and there, but all of these custom ROMs have massive flaws and there's so many of them being pumped out e.g "streakdroid" which is over version 2 now and still has major problems?
Can someone please point me in the direction of a nice stable custom rom?
thanks
there's only two gingerbread roms
i dont know which is most stable as i dont use either

The most stable Gingerbread ROM for the Streak is Streakdroid 2.3. It's still not stable, though, because Dell never released any firmware other than an Alpha release of Kernel code for 2.3. They have since discontinued the device which means there are only a handful of devs left here to finish an entire ROM, not just make it better.
If you want a totally stable release you're going to have to go with a 2.2 ROM, and they still aren't totally stable. Try StreakDroid 1.9.1 or SimpleStreak 1.2 (Not really a custom ROM, more of just a parred down version of stock ROM)

the most recommended rom is froyo stock
SimpleStreak then install what you want.
Didn't think it was worthy of starting a new thread.
What is the most stable 2.2 or 2.3 ROM right now.
I don't need anything fancy. Just want something that is debloated and quick and stable. Needs to be at least 2.2.
New to Streak 5, just trying to help out my Mom with a phone for her.
Edit, n/m. I broke the Streak due to the stupid battery cover/reboot issue. Bought a Samsung Infuse instead. Will put the Streak on eBay in as-is condition noting what happened.
I've tried just about every custom Rom out there and handsdown DSC is the most stable rom i've used so far, Miui was good but the battery life just killed it for me.
DSC
DSC 1.0v \m/is the most stable among StreakDroid5-2.0 slow in my streak, miui restart often, Longhorn 2.5 FCing.

[Q] Updating from KI3, where to?

Hi guys,
I have been using in a more or less satisfying way the mentioned ROM, [wrong]KI5[/wrong] AHEM, KI3, under the darkyrom modification. I didn't quite like the glowy stuff, but anyway. I would like to have an upgrade, since I've read there are way newer versions already (gosh this moves fast!). So far I'm rather satisfied, but the contacts bother me a lot. I get a lot of FC whenever I try to modify anything within the contacts. So I want to change the ROM and (hopefully) get rid of the issue. I am currently doing a Titanium backup and CWM backup. So my questions go as follows:
1: If I chose Cyanogenmod, would I have any problem? I mean, I have root from CF-root if I'm not mistaken, and then now running darky rom. Is there any step I should follow, or can I just do an update.zip?
2: If I chose any other ROM (preferably the less customized possible, I basically go with GO Launcher and that's it), which one is the most recommended/stable etc? I prefer if it looks more android stock than touchwiz anyway.
PS: Does MHL work already on cyanogenmod?

All the information you need and more is available in the CyanogenMod 7 (w/ Gingerbread 2.3.7) for Galaxy SII Q&A thread, just follow the instructions in the first post carefully.
All the stock ROMs are in the [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH1/2/3/4, KI1/2/3/4/8, KJ1/2 Download thread. If you don't want a stock ROM, browse through the rest of the ones on offer.

Q: What are the known issues?
A: Issues that I can remember:
- Video playback - some formats are not recognized, use an alternative app for video playback
- Camera - some modes don't work
- TVout, MHL
- FMRadio
- Issues when using the 2G/3G-Switch
- Volume issues (some report too high, others too low)

Thank you for the listing, I already saw it. It's fully stock, so I wasn't interested.
I also wanted an update on the situation of cyanogenmod which actually you gave me, so thank you.
But I also wanted recommendations of people, to see what ROMs they consider stable.
I would like to be able to modify both the icons and the off-screen animation so it looks like stock android (not touchwiz). Everything else I would like to keep it...So what would you recommend me?
So many ways to go...
Cm7 nightly looks good. Still waiting for release so if FCs are a problem you might not like it. I only got a few anyway but still.
Stock samsung is still best for me. Add jkay mods for sure will give you great themes and New lock screens and nice system features like CRT.
Go launcher ex
Go sms pro
Go contacts ex
All good and themed.
Good luck.

[Q] Best ROM Galaxy 10.1 3G

Hi, guys
I looked around I saw lots of ROMs and there is no thread which is talking about which ROM should be the best for Tab10.1.
so, what do you guys think which ROM is the best and also include link to that room....
Thanks
1. This shouldn't be in this forum section. It's not ROM development!
2. There is no such thing as 'best rom' as it's highly subjective. If you don't need the Camera, flash an ICS rom. If you do, then stick with a Honeycomb one.
Questions go in the Q&A section.
Simple as it get's
Care for Camera: HC 3.2 ROM's
Care for Speed/Performance: ICS Kang CM9
I choose Overcome v 2.3.0 as i want the tab to function flawlessly.
Now, i can wait for a fully functional ICS rom
I am using Overcome 2.3 too.
