[Q] losing pictures - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK so I took some pictures and when I rebooted my phone the next day half of them was blank in my gallery anyone know what's up with that.

Have you actually mounted to a pc and looked on the SD? Are you stock or rom'd? Have you used any 3rd party file managers like Astro to check the contents of the card?

Yes my PC says the pictures are corrupt or damaged. I'm and running the latest CM7 with NO Nightly's and yes I used root explorer and they are there but NOT viewable. It happened again tonight they were there and when I connected to my PC 6 out 12 became damaged or corrupt well at least that's what my PC says and then when I disconnect from my PC the pics. are blank in my gallery

SD card is prolly on the fritz. Or your ROM has read write speeds to high. And if u want to be sure the data is really corrupt put the SD card into the comp with a SD reader if possible not pass thru the phone.

Until you fix the problem you might want to try Photobucket and set it to automatically upload your photos that way you at least dont lose the pictures?..

Cannot see pictures when connected to computer

Is this a major issue or can it be fixed? Connecting as either MTP or PTP: neither allows one to see pictures saved as default by phone camera to DCIM folder on external SD card. my older Samsung galaxy s worked like a charm when connecting to a compute. I could see all pics but not with the SIII. Please, can someone please show me how to fix this?
experiencing the same problem..to see the pics preview(as thumbnails) i have to first transfer it to desktop. it's a hassle =(

I do not understand Samsung( I'm assuming it's their fault) why everytime they take a step forward, they take one step back. Why make things so difficult?
Something wrong your end
Test take two vids and three pictures .
Connect with Samsung usb cable phone and PC .
Open ext sd card in explorer .
Locate DCIM .
Result 3 pictures and two vids visible .
Suggest you backup your data and factory reset .

You'll have pictures alright, but you can't see the thumbnail at all.
I assumed it has something to do with MTP?
I see the thumbnails fine in MTP mode.
Then again, I'm running AOKP and not sammy based.
See them fine on aosp and cm9

Well, if I am doing a transfer of a particular pic or trying to transfer pics over to my phone I'll like to know which one I am transferring. So, yes, I will need to see a thumbnail of it. I am using the original Samsung ROM. As I said before, the first version did this without any complaints. Why should this be any different?
so, is my only result is to backup 12gigs of info and format my usb and factory reset my phone so I can see thumbnail pics? Sounds ridiculous to me.
On sammy stock rom it wont show you thumbs. Dont know why and dont know how to fix it but i know it doesnt and thats normal.

OK. So now I have to root my phone, so it would show thumbnails? OK. Thanks for the info. although, very inconvient Samsung!!!!! but if that is what it takes, I'll do it, but I will wait for a while as I just got this phone.

I too am having the same issue with a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2. The SD Card did connect as a Mass Storage Device with no issues until I upgraded the O/S to ICS version 4.04. After upgrading it only connects as an MTP device. The USB Utilities section of the Settings Menu is no longer there. Either is the option to Connect To PC which enabled the mass storage connection. This is not a Samsung or PC issue. From what I have read this problem is unique to Sprint's version of Ice Cream Sandwich although not having access to other carriers version of ICS, I can not verify this. Perhaps users on other carriers can post more info on this. I am looking at downgrading my phone back to Gingerbread.
anyone came to a solution with this?
experiencing the same thing. i am currently on stock rom ICS.
Hey guys
I have the same problem.
I had it when on stock ICS and now on ARHD 12.0 and cant see thumbnails whwn connected to pc...i mean come on i can see thumbnails on my 7 years old usb mp3 player.:s

I just remembered there were a few more details I left out. Last night I switched from CM 9.1 to CM 10.1. After I installed it my pictures were gone but before when I went from CM 9 to CM 9.1 they were still there. Could this have something to do with it also? The backup I had was the CM 9.1 ROM.

So I installed a media scanner app and it didn't find my pictures. So when a backup is performed in CWM does it backup pictures? I didn't really have any important pics so it's not a total loss. Thank you for all your help.

Your pictures are still there it is just that the media scanner is bugging out. Unless you wiped internal storage.

After the restore I went into gallery and it showed all my albums and well as the number of pictures in each album. The strange thing it that the numbers were going down one by one as the gallery was open. Also I didn't wipe the internal storage.

If my pictures were in the memory somewhere wouldn't they show in a file manager?
1. If you didn't format USB storage space - your pictures are still there.
2. They're visible in any file manager, of course, if you find them.
3. CWM backup doesn't back up USB storage space.
So I checked the DCIM directory and there isn't anything there so does this mean I am out of luck?

They definitely shouldn't have. In your internal storage look for a folder called 0 and there should be stuff in there
So I got around to checking out that folder today and there wasn't anything in there. I appreciate all of your suggestions. I wish they were still there somewhere but I guess something screwed up.

[Q] Files disappeared (mostly pictures)

Hi guys,
I have a galaxy s2 with the latest AOKP rom installed. It's been working fine (except for GPS which got fixed once i swapped out the SIM card). I just came back from overseas and had a bunch of pictures on the phone. None of the pictures show up anymore. The SD Card had some pictures but they were old, and I should have a lot of pictures stored on the internal device.
I tried running recuva on just the sd card but they didn't come up. I only noticed that I had to reinstall 1 application so far because it wasn't working. Also, when I browse my phone using my computer, it seems like the root directory is missing a bunch of folders (I have hidden files to show).
Any ideas?
Not sure what had happen to your device. But the best course of action is to pull out your external microSD card and connect it to your computer directly to see if you can see the contents in that card. If yes, download them to your computer and back them up. Then format your microSD card with the phone, the phone should be able to read after that.
Once you have done that, if you can see all the rest of the pictures on your phone, transfer them to the external microSD and do the same thing and back those picture up.
Once the backup is done (if you are able to), then you can start working on fixing your GS2. Even if you have to reflash the ROM then you will have the data backup.

Went on a trip overseas, saw the photos either before the plane ride home, or during.
Just had this happen to my gs3. Phone and sdcard in pc reader showed dcim and a couple other folders as empty that should not have been. When plugged into pc using mtp and/or usb by enabling/disabling usb debugging finally showed two sets of each folder. Seems like it couldnt read sdcard at some point so the apps created new folders when they shouldnt have. Copied dcim folder to my desktop but still cant read the files even though it shows them as large files like pics/videos would be.

This happened to me too. I rebooted my phone for some reason and when it booted up all my pics/images were gone. All the folders were still there but were empty. I managed to get everything back by taking out the SD card and putting it in my computer then used Recuva. Strange that Recuva didn't help you.

Hmmm they might be permanently gone but you can try something like ES File Explorer, OI File Manager, or Root Explorer and go to either your pictures folder or DCIM folder and see if they're still there. Good luck!

Get a computer with linux or a linux livecd. Install testdisk.
It has a program called photorec which will recover everything. It's easy to use. Google it.

Is this the same program as photorec for windows? I used the windows version and it did bring back about 30 photos. The strange thing is the ones it brought back were in the middle of pictures. Like my oldest pictures and my newest pictures did not come back. I'm wondering if the program testdisk would work on this, bringing back partitions or something. It seems most of these programs are designed to bring back photos after they were deleted which I didn't do. This sucks!!
Still hoping I can get them back somehow. Any other programs out there? I tried Recuva and Photorec.

Putting Music on SDcard

well guys i been having problem and i still dont know why tho, i been putting music on my SD car the phone reads it and then deletes it, then some other dayz it stays there but if i do a reboot or leave it there randomly it still deletes it trying to figure why does it do that and wont stay there.?
could be a bad sd card? something like that happened to me, when i came from s3 to s5 my sd card stuff wasn't being read properly so i just formatted it and it worked.. put your music on your computer then format it then try it again and see if it works!

Hm.. That is strange man, since you still have no solution i will keep taking a stab at it.
have you tried changing music players?
have you tried getting your music from a different source/checking if your music files arent corrupted?
did you check with a file explorer to see if it is 100% not there? the music files that is... and just not cached by the music app ?
and lastly.. have you tried using a different spare SD card that you have laying around? sometimes its hard to accept but SD cards come faulty my friend.. I am all out of options...:crying:

im sorry to hear that... thats the thing with technology these days bro, you can never be 100 percent safe, its the size of a finger nail and holds your whole life in their.. so please try a spare SD card and put music and test it if it deletes..good luck :good:
i found the reason why now it was deleting it... i tried with a diffrent SDcard it did the same thing now that i had the option to move the 3rd party app which i used PowerAMP i moved the apped to the SDcard i rebooted it couple of times and it stood there b4 with out moving the app to the SDcard was deleting it at first i thought i was my SD but it wasent happy i did the work because some one might end up same way i was too.:laugh:
