I was wondering when someone would recommend getting a new oem battery for the eris? I've had mine for almost 2 years now and it seems like my phone dies quite quickly. Of course my usage varies (usually depending on if the girlfriend is working lol) so i can't be sure. Furthermore its not like i kept logs of my battery life when i first got the phone so its not like i can accurately compare to my past life. What do you guys and girls think? The oem batteries on ebay for like 5$ are quite tempting at this point.

I was noticing definitively lower battery life in May this year - so, when my battery was about 16 months old - and bought a new one, and battery life definitely improved back to my old normal. I had to weight that against the realization that I was planning to upgrade my phone sometime around mid-August to late-September - but it was still worth it to me. It's a lot less of a hassle than making sure that I am charging a couple of times a day.
I think that, given the charge cycles that phone batteries typically get, this is pretty much expected.
Do it.
Also, there was a thread around here somewhere (in the Droid Eris Q&A section) about OEM batteries for about 10 bucks. I'd say that's a pretty good deal.
Alright thanks, i jumped on it, should be here by monday. Ill let you all know how it goes

You should be fine with it - especially for under $10 - I ordered a HTC Ozone OEM 1500 maH battery for the Eris (which I knew would fit tightly with the stock cover) and nearly 6 months later, no issues whatsoever & holding charges. Recently ordered a LG ENV3 (OEM) battery from the same NY-based eBay merchant and it put new life into DW's 2 years old "feature" phone.
I kept the "old" battery charged & keep it alongside with the headphone & usb cable handy when I'm on the go for contingency purposes, occassionally rotating between the 2 batteries.
I've had my Droid Eris for almost 2 years and noticed the battery life was becoming horrible. To the point of having to keep the phone plugged in all the time. I purchased a brand new oem battery and STILL have the same issue. Now its worse those, it will suddenly die and when I restart the phone, there is NO charge. Any suggestions?
Did you try calibrating it?

I had my battery die on a hiking trip (I was using the camera a lot) and bought a spare battery when I got home.
Not long after that I rooted my phone and put Setcpu on it to lower the clock speed when the screen is off. I now get about double the battery life. I have yet to need my spare battery, but I swap back and forth every few weeks.
my first reply
I'm try to post my first reply in xda...What's going , I'm looking forward to this message...
Are you using a battery monitor on the Eris? I highly recommend using it as you can check to see what's running in the background (i.e Maps did manage to stay on or come back - maybe, delicate touchscreen issues ??) that might be "draining" the battery - even after a proper calibration & several full charge/discharge cycles.
Depending on the custom ROM, it could be the widgets, clock/weather/news app, email, or even screen settings, etc. Up until last week, I had a nearly 30 months old HTC battery (from the Ozone @ 1500 maH) in the now decommissioned, WiFi only Eris and it was fine - holding a solid charge for typically 20+ to 30 hours of light/moderate usage & standby time.
My Rezound will be here Wednesday.
I am wondering who bought the extended run battery and what kinda of improvement you saw.
When i got the extended battery for my dinc it made a large difference.
I dont know how much better the Rezound will do verses what the dinc did on battery life.
Wondering what to expect,
What are you guys getting for bat life,

I have the ext battery and never use it. I get about 15+ hours average with this battery. I would say get it if you will not be around a charger for over 10+ hours or if you will be doing heavy video watching and gaming. I use my phone fairly heavily and get plenty of life from the standard with the ROM and kernel I'm running. The longest I've seen from my battery now is around 23 hours. The shortest I've seen lately was about 10 hours.

Im sure the rom and kernel you are running helped out a lot.
i will be running Nil's gingersense, i ran his roms on my Dinc without any issues.
Thanks for the info, no need to waste the money if its not needed.

I have the extended battery. I only pop it in when I am going to be solely on 4G for more than 8-10 hours. I keep it in my truck fully charged incase I need it. Other than that I get about 15-20+ hours on the stock battery with moderate usage. Last night I had been on battery for 14 1/2 hours and still had 67%. Of course, I was on WiFi the whole time as I never left my house.
I have the extended battery and love it...I get 24+ hours from a full charge, and I never have to worry about it running out. I frequently ran out of battery with the stock battery. I think it's worth the peace of mind and being able to work your phone if you need to without having to use measures such as turning off data or something life that. It's not even that big that it would be worth a thought. If it's still half price, it's a no brainer.

Without going into whether or not you need it, I would get to your Verizon store and buy it while its half price. You have 14 days to return it.
Personally, I didn't like the bulk and lack of cases. I am going to try and stick with the standard battery for now. I returned the extended. I may be wrong but time will tell.
In terms of what people are saying here about battery life with the extended battery, I agree.
FYI... the extended battery doesn't seem to add weight, just bulk.

It's not that bad size wise. I only notice it when going back to stock from extended. My phone feels tiny in my hand, lol.
If you can get it for 25 bucks why not get it?

I was thinking that it would be hard to find covers for it
I work in construction so I have have done in the past is buy a cover for the phone and also buy a leather holster and clip it to my work belt, i have dropped my dinc multiple times from around 8' and nothing has ever happened to it.
If I get the extra bulk Im wondering if I can find that type of setup
the 1/2 off price is Real tempting
I'm a pretty heavy user of the muliti-media aspects for my phones so when I bought my new Rezound a couple days ago I bought the Verizon sourced 1750 extended battery and cover. It's my backup up I know I'll be using it frequently going forward.
I upgraded from my original AMOLED dinc. I love my Dinc and I love this new Rezound.
They have the holster/case for the extended battery in the store.

I will need to check that out,
I looked online for the Rezound ext battery and could not find anything on the VWZ website.
thanks for the info
They pulled it down because people were exploiting some loophole to get it for $5. I figured it would have been back up by now though.
I picked up an extended battery a couple of weeks ago while they were on sale, and definitely appreciate the extra use time it gives me over the standard battery.
That much said, I'll be sticking with the smaller battery under most circumstances, mostly because I prefer the Seidio Surface case that will not accommodate the extended battery. The Verizon case that fits the thicker back leaves the top and bottom of the phone exposed, which makes me a bit nervous in the event of a fall. I'd love it if Seidio would make an extended Surface case.

It's definitely worth it as long as you can get it for $25, i just got one a few days ago. I like to run my phone at full power and brightness so it's great, I got 27 hours yesterday (9 hours awake) at full brightness and 1.8 GHz while the screen was on, but then again I was on wifi also.

thanks,
thats a pretty cool looking setup, but I would be afraid if the phone dropped on its back the camera lense would crap the bed.
Thanks for all the ideas
Dang, i forgot, when does this sale end again?
How is this on the thunderbolt?
From what I read it is around 1600mAh, I have the Thunderbolt with the extended battery that is 2750mAh and that's not even enough for me on some days.
I use the phone 3+ hours a day keep in mind. I assume the rezound battery would be an improvement, but if you are like me I would recommend the extended battery. The only problem for me is how fat it makes the back of the phone. Even so, I have learned to cope with it.
I get about 10-15% longer life from the 1620mAh rated Rezound battery than the stock 1400mAh rated battery. It can be hard to pin down a firm number as there are so many factors that effect power use. I would certainly recommend the Rezound battery as a replacement if your stock battery is bad, but don't expect much life extension for the money. I bought mine on verizonwireless.com. It showed as $40 list, but $20 in my cart.
If your looking to keep the stock look, I'd go with the Rezound. Bump n calibrate n you should be good to go. If you don't mind the hump n extra size, the extended is the way to go. No worry bout it lasting all day
Tapatalkn with my Thunderbolt!
I'm on stock battery and I'm getting 24 hours with a lot of use.... Just run battery calibration and mine got 10x better......

By inherently bad, I mean are there some extra power sucking hardware components that were just poor design choices (processor/screen) and therefore can't be remedied through software fixes?
I understand that the sensation has decent battery life, whereas the amaze does not. Yet the Amaze should have a more recent processor and a larger battery. So I just want to make sure before I buy that if I'm willing to add a custom rom and use juice defender this will make the Amaze no more power hungry than its direct competitors.
Thanks
I'm thinking most of the drain is coming from the extra work caused by Sense. Custom ROMs do help with battery since they are debloated and all but when we have something AOSP, battery life should be much better. I had experience with my old Moto Cliq where Motoblur would just chug battery. It wasn't until we got AOSP or CyanogenMod that the battery life was acceptable. You could also buy an extended battery like Anker. With the ICS leak, I heard some people report better battery due to better management with the dual-core CPU.
To summarize, we can extend battery life greatly. I'm not sure if there are any hardware stuff that causes shorter battery life though.
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G
It's only bad if your going to play one of the new console quality games out there or anything else that really going to push that dual core 1.5mhz chipset. Imagine powering your laptop with a battery the size of the one in your phone that's what you get. Get a car charger grab a Pocket seized power pack from Amazon for $10th or an extra batt and you'll be fine. Either that or just text make some calls & listen to some music and let all that power chill & you'll make it all day no problem. Push it hard & it's dead in 2hrs. But the things it can do are crazy. This thing has more balls than my laptop. Just my 2 cents.
I don't believe that the Amaze's battery is inherently bad. I was able to get 10 hours off of Beast Rom with moderate usage.
I talk a lot on Skype with my relatives sometimes. It's much cheaper for me because I'm using the T-mobile 5 gigs of 4G at $30. Lots of data but only 100 minutes.
So I'm pretty familiar with the battery life. With the new ICS leak my battery life has improved a lot. Still had a green bar on the battery even after using Skype on 4G for over an hour. I do however keep a charger at home, car and at work.

On stock yeah the battery life is HORRIBLE, I am a average user and it use to last me 6-8 hours and sometimes less. After switching to Energy rom my battery improved GREATLY, I had anywhere between 12 to 16 hours.
With the new ICS leak that came, I notice stock had improved significantly over previous GB stock ! I just switched over to Revolution, checking it out to see how it is although I much prefer the Energy rom simply because of the 5x5 layout.

Wow, thank you for the reassurance. I was getting 6-8 hours as well. I am highly skeptical that a ROM could make that much of a difference, (going from 12-16) but I am happy to try.
I have noticed on some days prior to the pics leak that I would get 10+ hours and some cays I would get maybe 5 Max. Bone stock btw. Since the update I am killing that thing. I was able to go 6 and that was with the radio off, no sync, nothing. Only thing running was a podcast. Then again for the first time I was able to get 12hrs via radio off. I don't know I am personally not too happy with the radio update. Regardless I am glad I have the leak and I'm glad there is a place like this where I am giving so many options and get to learn more about this phone.
Thank you xda members glad you are here
i get great battery everyday. since day one by far the best phone i've owned in every aspect but the battery life for me is incredible.

You don't have to be a farmer to know what sh*t smells like.
Well... here's my results
Stock GB Amaze: After 10 hours (with moderate use) I was at 20%
Unlocked bootloader.. installed NRG's GB ROM (still waiting a bit to upgrade to ICS.. mainly waiting for radio issues to be resolved)
Before I had to plug in for the night, I was at 13hrs54minutes with 30% battery left and MUCH MUCH MORE awake/screen time (total screen ON time was at about 3hrs45minutes) than the test with stock..
So yeah, the ROM you're running makes a GIGANTIC DIFFERENCE.
Does the energy gingerbread and the energy ice cream sandwich rom get the same battery life? Have the ICS Roms been maximized for battery life like the gingerbread Roms have?
I tried Vigor360, and though I hate Sense, it was.. okay...except battery life was worse than on my Thunderbolt. I've tried flashing different kernels but more problems usually arrise out of the blue and I have NO CLUE which kernels are actually good , good as in they actually male an effort to improve the battery life. I'm currently on a CM9 ROM and holy hell! The keyboard lags and battery life is ATROCIOUS ! I haven't even hardly installed any apps!
I tried Newt's One XXX, v5.1.1 but couldn't stand the minor bugs, but I assume battery life on that ROM is way worse than on Vigor360 (since usually, the higher the version of Sense, the worse it is on the battery) when I had a galaxy Nexus, the picture quality was a joke, but I made it well through the day with it! I'm not getting an extended battery. The phone is thick enough -.-
My current usage is about 7 hours,an hour and a half of screen time, battery is at 7%. I can sort of stand sense 3.6 so long as it isn't theme. What ROM/kernel combo do you guys use to get through the day, or did I make a mistake getting this phone? (No offense)

going to need some things from you:
1. are you s-on or off
2. what firmware are you on
3. do you like sense or aosp more
edit: 7 and 1/2 hours screen time. that is awesome for the REZ. the HD screen is what kills the battery the most. if you can get 7 hours then bravo.
He said he is averaging 7hrs of use with 1.5hrs screen time which is pretty bad. Believe it or not, newts one xxx has probably the best battery life for the rez. I can easily get 14hrs with 3hrs screen time with stock battery. Yesterday I got 17 hrs with 5.5hrs screen time on extended battery. That is probably the best Rom atm and sense 4+ is much more appealing to the eye. All I can say is if you don't like sense, you bought the wrong phone. People will forget about this phone before aosp/aokp is perfected, even though they are making great progress. I can never get any kernels to work right either. Leaving stock kernels is usually best. As with any android phone, you have to work for battery life

Had a Nexus, broke it and sold it for $75, relative let me use an iPhone 4... I lasted a week before caving and bought a Thunderbolt for $90.
I couldn't stand the ancient android OS and the phone was having random data drops, so I got Verizon to replace it with another thunderbolt. The replacement had the same issue + the vibrate motor decided when and when not to work. When asking for help you usually shouldn't trash every kernel/rom made available to us by our hard working devs. Also, your theory on the sense number being higher = higher battery usage is way false. Sense 4 & sense 4.1 were actually designed to decrease battery usage and lag so I would stick with one of those. Also, try underclocking your cpu and changing governors.

People need to stop judging battery life based on screen-on time and hours of use. It varies per person depending on how many accs/apps are syncing. I am tired of all this "better battery" and comparing usage time. If you want more battery, stop syncing on all apps/account. I wish people would stop posting screenshots of their usage. It just means they don't use their phone as much in terms of accs and apps running. Stock rom/kernel best for stability.

It might vary somewhat, but screen-on time and total time are still good yardstick level indicators of battery charge longevity. It's not like when you sync your google account your battery only lasts 1/3 as long - it's maybe a 10% difference, depending on your signal strength, if you're on wifi, etc.

Rage ROM 1.9.1 is a good ROM, nice and smooth. I got about 2 and a half hours of screen on time with that ROM and Snuzzos Funky Kernel. Very nice combination.
If you want to be real fancy you can build a CM10 ROM. There's a guide for it in the Dev section. (Well, the guide is to make CM9, but it's easy to modify the commands to make it build CM10 instead). I get about 3 hours and 15 mins of screen on time on average with the stock battery, no kernel modifications or anything fancy. Brightness is at 25%. I ran it with brightness on 100% for a day and got about 2 hrs and 15 mins of screen on time.

As much as you dislike this method of determining battery life, it is really the only way to gauge battery life on a forum. You are right that it also depends on apps syncing and such but a Rom that can get 12hrs with 3hrs screen time is more battery friendly than a Rom that can do that same12hrs but with 1.5hrs screen on time with the same setup and usage.

How much battery account sync uses is dependent on just how popular you are we have push sync. This isn't Android 1.5 wen're talking about. Push sync uses very little battery.
And sure, I could build a CM10 ROM, but won't it basically be useless cause most things will be broken or barely working?
I've been running it as a daily driver since the 12th. It's surprisingly stable. No random FCs or anything. There are some graphical artifacts while watching streaming video like on YouTube and Project Butter isn't working, but it's still pretty smooth. Bluetooth calling isn't working either, but nor is it on AOSP ICS either. That's pretty much it for problems.

And just to clarify, I'm not.dissing ROM's or developers, in fact, I'm going to admit, I'm a huge Newtoroot fanboy lol. Maybe its cause I've known of him since the Droid Incredible! But I've been running One XxX Rom for about a day now and battery life is still pretty bad, what are some good Sense kernels for battery life?

Try snuzzo's 1.6rc2 kernel with it . I am on ecliptic Rom, but have run Newts and switched to that kernel on both. It's in his funky kernel thread.

I ran it with brightness on 100% for a day and got about 2 hrs and 15 mins of screen on time.

how the heck are you guys getting these ridiculous screen on times with the stock battery?? the best ive ever gotten WITH AND EXTENDED BATTERY is like 3hr screen on time and ~13 hours unplugged with countershrikes AOSP and Funky Kernel
and no where near that with my stock battery

I've been wondering that myself lol. I haven't done anything different; same apps, same sync settings, same display brightness, just the ROM + kernel is different. I'm not even undervolted like I was and I'm doing better than before lol... Must be the ROM/stock CM10 kernel I guess.
