I have an upgrade on April 3rd..how can i get it sooner?...I was wondering how I can persuade a Verizon rep into giving it to me now, (or when TB comes out) anyone ever accomplish this? or is there no way they would do that?

1) Good luck on the early upgrade. My NE2 is due in May. If it works for you, send him my way
2) If the TBolt release date keeps slipping you and I will both be able to use our upgrades

Yeah probably March 17th.

I did it when my OS went out on blackberry storm and when my HTC Incredible's display got sweat behind it. I was also having signal issues with the HTC. Now I have a Facinate (my third) with all kinds of issues and am hoping to get it swapped out too. The bottom line is... I don't think they will swap out phones without you having major documented issues with your current phone. I'm very lucky that I have a great Verizon store by me and understanding reps. Just my 2 cents. Heck, who knows!!? It doesn't hurt to ask! I Good luck!

Someone on here awhile back suggested getting your upgrade date moved forward under the guise of wanting to order an iPhone, then since it is changed in the system, get the Thunderbolt instead.

If you want to get the T-Bird before your upgrade date, you can buy it new by adding another line to your account -- $10. (The price of the T-Bird is the same whether you're upgrading or buying it new.) After you buy, go to Verizon store and switch the phone numbers so your current number is on the T-Bird. Once your upgrade date is passed, cancel the extra line. You'll pay $10 extra for a couple of months, but you'll have the new T-Bird.
This may sound shady, but it's perfectly legit if you think about it. And no, they won't move up your upgrade date.
I spoke to a rep on the phone yesterday and asked about the same thing (my upgrade is on 4/8). She told me that the most they can move your upgrade date is 30 days. So I suggest calling them on 3/3 and asking them about it.

Aren't they going to require a data package on the new line, and require keeping the data on the old line as well?

I keep an old flip phone just to use as a third line phone..... but yes you need to have a data plan with every smartphone and I think you need a phone on every line.
Before Verizon changed their upgrade rules, you were able to upgrade after 13 months on a 2yr contract. If it was on a family plan, it had to be the main line. I was able to do this every since the BB Tour came out. I got an Eris 4 months later at the discounted price. I did this when the D2 came out as well. Now it took me calling back and forth until I got a cool rep and did it for me. Each rep had their reasons why they couldnt and why the others did it for me werent supposed to. To get the D2, took me 3 days of trying of about 3-8 calls a day. I upgrade on that time, 11 months early. When I called today, I was told, wont be happening anymore because of their new policy.
W/e you decide to do, you have a better chance of doing it over the phone as the rules are different for them than retail. I have to wait until July, so I feel your pain. =( But it will be the first time I have ever used my new every 2 cuz I have never waited this long before, lol.

This information was good to know, I have the upgrade on the same date (4/3) but I'm not going to bother pulling strings until an exact release date is announced. How exactly did you convince Verizon to move your upgrade date? I'm just curious which number I should call when it gets announced so I can try to negotiate with them.
I just went through the 611 on my phone and selected the upgrade option. When the rep answered, I straight up asked lol. The only catch is you have to call within the 30 days of your upgrade. You can't move your upgrade date until then.

Ok, I have an upgrade available on an extra line that is used, but rarely used. Pretty much when the kids go spend the night somewhere I send that phone with them.
I don't want to upgrade that device, it never gets used and I don't want to waste an upgrade on a feature phone.
Sprints online support said that I could order the phone with that upgrade and activate it on whatever line I wanted too.
I called Best Buy earlier today, as I have several gift cards I'd like to go ahead and burn on this. But the guy there said the phone had to be activated on the line the upgrade is for. I was planning on picking it up tomorrow morning, but I don't want to spend cash on it, would rather blow the gift cards.
Anyone know if BestBuy Can/'t use an upgrade for a different line, and activate it on my line? I'm hoping the guy I talked to was just a moron.
Just activate it on the line and go home and have Sprint switch the numbers.

You have over 3k post, you obviously root phones and now you're to lazy to make a number switch, which only takes a few minutes.
Whats more crazy is you couldn't figure out you could do this on your own?
You can do it online too.
I did this with mine. Asked the guy not to turn it on to activate in best buy because I was in a hurry. Got home and had sprint move esn to my number so the phone on the lone I upgraded wouldn't be deactivated. Sprint did it and I turned it on and it updated profile with my phone number data.

I agree. I did this as well, took sprint all of 20 minutes to swap the lines on the phones and all is well.
Have done this at both the BB and local sprint store on a number of occasions with no problem. HOWEVER, be warned that you can no longer to this with an "Airave" line even if it is showing up on the computer as eligible for an upgrade.
Sprint apparently figured this one out and put and end to it according to my local Sprint guy.
So I am fed up with the constant reboots and call drops. I am up for and upgrade on the 21st of this month. I was about to call verizon and see if they can do it a little earlier. I am currently rooted, my question is are they going to ask me any information on software version? if so what should I tell them as I said am rooted and nerver wrote down the stock software/radio numbers. Do you guys even think I can cet an early upgrade?
The fact that your current phone is rooted has nothing to do with your upgrade.

More than likely they will probably ask as they will try and troubleshoot before the discussion of allowing an early upgrade will begin. That was one of the first things they asked for when the troubleshooting began for me.
They didn't ask me about my software when I tried to get mine replaced. But since I just happen to have that Thunderbolt back to factory stock and sitting next to me:
Android 2.3.4
Sense 2.1
Software number: 2.11.605.19 710RD
Baseband version (radio): 1.49.00.046w_1, 0.01.79.0331w_1
These should be consistent with a completely stock Thunderbolt. Doubt they'd ask anything else. Now, back in your cage, Thunderbolt.
Thanks for the replies!
so I called them. I didnt need any info and they were about to give me my upgrade till I tol them I wanted the galaxy s3. Aparently the s3 is "on a different system" (sounds like BS!!) and can not be given as an early upgrade. Another phone could have been given to me but I so love that s3 so guess I will have to wait
Every Verizon customer can upgrade 7 days early with full eligibility.

EPIC FAIL!!! so I went in for my upgrade n came out with the same phone i went in with. I was told that they are getting rid of the grandfathered unlimited data plans. so by upgrading my device I will have to get a limited data plan. this wont work for me as I easily go over 30gb/month. So my hopes and dreams of the gs3 have been shattered.

What kind of troubleshooting have you gone through?
If you're rooted, some roms handle network traffic better than others.
The only dropped calls I've had are either due to the end call bug on Sense 3.0 roms and quicks with the proximity sensor where I end up hanging up on people.
I will say that my first T-bolt, which was a refurb had a bad screen, but since I've had my replacement, I haven't had any problems, other than VZW's network issues and the usual problems that arise from rooting.

Easy solution. Buy a used phone from CL(ATT is the easiest). Go over to Straight Talk and pay $45/month unlimited. They use att and Verizon depending on the phone (gsm or cdma). Same coverage, less money, and unlimited. ATT phones are easy, just order a sim for ATT from ST. CDMA phones are harder, need to use a ST cdma donor phone and clone to yours.

Wow, 30GB seems like quite a bit.
But, ya if you are really wanting a new device I would recommend eBay. I picked up a Galaxy Nexus for $240 bucks in like new condition with a nice Seidio case. Not only is this about the same price that I would have paid to upgrade (not eligible till January though) but now I can keep unlimited data. You won't find a SGSIII nearly that cheap (probably going to be closer to $400) but the GNex and SGSIII are very similar phones.

my wife used 28gb last month streaming netflix, no tethering. Its possible.
Since the general Q&A forum didn't respond to this question at all, I figured I'll post this here:
I recently got the Incredible 4g lte from amazon as an upgrade from my inc2 (lost unlim data as a result, not that big of a deal to me). I got the phone in hopes S-OFF would be available, and because I prefer that form factor. Now, it's looking like this phone won't ever get s-off, or wont in the near future, and the GS3 is looking like a viable alternative.
Would verizon take my inc4g back (remember, I got it from amazon, I did get it new though) and exchange it for the gs3? If not, what can I do otherwise? What are my options here?

You can go onto Radio Shack's website to get an online appraisal of your phone. They ask 3 questions: Is it working? Is it fully functional? Are you trading in a charger?
Yes to all 3 questions for the HTC Droid Incredible 4G says, "Today your trade-in value is: $65.98". Not that great of a deal if you ask me.
Seeing stuff about the new Droid DNA that was announced today, just kinda curious of who all will be getting it? I won't be able to get it real soon after release unless money and/or the DNA falls out of the sky into my hands, but just curious of who all would jump on that? Well, that was a quick move to a new forum...Anyway I just want to say that I called that Verizon's app store is being replaced by Amazon's "services." The product page says you can use a single sign-on to all of the Amazon apps. I like most of them, but I'd rather be able to install/uninstall on my own.
This would be my next phone if it wasn't on Verizon.
I'm planning on buying it, I just have to figure out what I am going to have to do to keep my unlimited data. If you upgrade a limited data line now and use this phone on an unlimited data line they cut the unlimited data plan off. I am thinking of upgrading the limited data line and selling it on EBay then buying another DNA since they can only take it if the device has the same serial number. I haven't been able to find a friend to swap phones with to keep our data packs yet, they dont have upgrades >.<

No they wont.
In fact... verizon reps will tell you to do this method if you want to keep your unlimited data plan.
No chance. Fixed storage, questionable battery life.
Jumped ship from my Galaxy Note 2 pre-order to nab this one instead. Higher resolution, lots of equal or better specs, and $100 less? Yep. Battery might be an issue but not worried about it as I tend to keep my phone plugged in at my desk at work all day anyways. Bring it on!

Verizon didn't tell me to do that method. I called them asking about billing the phone to my account and they told me you can't bill preorders to your account. They also told me that any line that I switch this phone to since it carries a new two year contract is subject to be audited and if they find in their audit that it has the same IMEI number as the one I purchased on my limited data line, they will change my plan for the unlimited data phone to a limited data plan. Verizon is trying to destroy us unlimited data users any way they possibly can.

Solution = Upgrade your current phone unsubsidized at full retail, sell your old phone on ebay to offset some of the cost, and retain your unlimited data until it's new contract time down the road.
