[Q] GS2 - Need help in Purchase! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I am residing in India, and have been dying to make up my mind for a SGS2!!!
Anyways, my questions follow -
1. If I get an opportunity to get this from US, what would be the best India compatible model with the best possible specs which I should be getting?
2. If i get this from local Indian market, how do I check that I am getting the real deal and not any low powered version? (the different processor and GPU details are very confusing! Need enlightenment!)
(1.2 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 SoC processor VS. Samsung Exynos VS. 1.5 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S3....)
Or, should I be waiting for the SGS3 to come around?
Kindly get back with your replies!
Thanks!
CK

Any suggestions? Anyone?

[Q] Are there different versions of the SGS II ?

Hello All,
I was thinkin of getting the new Samsung Galaxy S 2, but when i took a research i noticed that in the Netherlands the Galaxy s 2 has a dual 1.2ghz with 3g network.
ht tp :/ /sh op.w ww.hi.nl/hi/RAPRD/Samsung-Galaxy-S2/TSAI9100bl.html?M5Referer=google_gsm
& when i searched in Germany it has only a 1ghz dual processor with a 4g network.
h tt p :/ /shop .phonehouse.de/handys/viewDetail.php?iModelId=1116&gclid=CLaF5pW5_KgCFYSGDgodoH07SA&Apid=Hurra
So, did they bring out different types or did they made a mistake?
(just like i some sites post the SGS II has a 5mp camera..)
all very weird..
The thing why I bother is, i'm going to buy the phone in Germany, but i'd like to have the 1.2ghz version they sell in the Netherlands...
Thanks in advance,

that's a mistake...
No, it's always a GT-I9100 (sgs2) with 1,2 GHz and 4G (the icon onscreen is H+)
Some websites say that there will be a GT-I9100T with a Tegra2 powered cpu and a lcd screen
But i think it would be a Tegra2 powered cpu and a superamoled+ screen...
Dont call me liar or something else, this was what i have heard
Edit: and it's always a 8MP cam

The thing is, i've found on serveral sites that there 'are' diffrend versions,
look at this:
h ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II
that's probably the reason why they sell a different version in Germany,
but it leaves us a main question, will the GT-I9100 or the GT-I9103 be the better phone.
maybe i should wait a few weeks searching which will be better, before buying the phone.
Two versions are Xynos and Tegra, no idea if I've spelled them correctly.
But the Xynos is better with 1.2 GH'z, where as Tegra is 1 GH'z.
Only advantage Tegra has is that is specialised for gaming I think..

The Mali gpu is also more powerful than the GeForce ULP. As you say the only advantage Tegra has is gaming, but that can be bypassed when we get the plugins needed for Chainfires awesome app.

My Answer was referring to his question for German devices and we have 1,2 Ghz Version on GER-Devices.

I don't understand why you're quoting me, you're saying the same thing as i did.
Here in Portugal I heard that here we'll be getting the version with SLCD screen and possibly the Tegra cpu. However saying that, I cannot find any reference of any retailer here selling the S2 yet or any launch date for it which I find strange.
I also heard that there will be a Galaxy S2 mini version with 1.4GHz cpu and 5MP camera.
When I bought my SGS 2 in The Netherlands I asked if they heard something about a Tegra2 version with a possible LCD screen.. They had not heard anything about it. Im pretty sure in Europe every SGS2 being sold right now is Exynos 1.2 GHz and SAMOLEDplus.
Here they also talk about the two version's: h ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II
After searching on the net, i'm still not sure where the different version's will be launched..
Maybe in a week or two we will find out ;p

[Q] Quadcore or dualcore, which one ?

Hi every body,
I'm looking for an answer that I've the opportunity to buy the S3 quadcore international version or the dualcore LTE version.
Which one have the best benchmark ?
Which one have the less battery drain ?
I'm french ... so does the LTE version be compatible with french 3G+ ?
Thank for your answer
If you mean hspa+ for 3g+, i think it should work. I'd take the dual core over the quad core, as it is based on a newer architecture and android is not even optimized for dual core properly, let alone quad core. The snapdragon s4 beats the exynos in core to core performance. It should also fair better in battery as well, but may fall a bit short in benchmarks.

Question about the spects on the sgs3

Hey I was reading about the sgs3 and I was under the impression that it would be a quad core but in the official tmo article it say this: a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ S4 Processor with 1.5 GHz Dual-Core CPUs and 2GB of RAM, the Galaxy S III also offers a large, 2100mAh battery to power hours of on-the-go entertainment.
So are they saying it is going to have 2 dual core cpu's =ing a quad core or is it just a dual core? I am not the brightest person so maybe one of you can set me straight. Because I would rather just not spend the money until a quad core comes out. I will be happy with my SGS2 runing AOKP for now.
the international version will have (1) quad core exynos chip - the us variants have (1) dual core 1.5 chip.
basically
the international version has a quad core processor, all U.S variants have a dual core processor.
This is the only hardware difference between models, as well as the U.S variants having 2GB of ram and the international version having 1GB of ram.

Its a dual core what gets my question is why HTC and Samsung ship their new devices with quadcore in Europe but dualcore in the us!!!

I don't get why you people want a quadcore phone. I bet most of your computers aren't even quadcore. Don't really see a need for it to run the things we have on our phones. I doubt any apps will utilize all 4 cores.

Cause four cores HAS to be better then two right? Arent there multiple instances where dual core android devices out perform quad cores?

Its just so they can run to their friends and say they have a quad core phone. I completely agree. There is absolutely no need for a quad core yet.

europe (and most of the rest of the world) is dominated by hspa+ and not lte. qualcomm is the only soc producer that has integrated lte into the soc (so it doesn't get terrible battery life like the gnexus) so they get the exynos and tegra socs, we get krait s4.
LMAO.. Spects..

are there any specific reasons the quad causes problems with the lte modem?
I googled it and cannot find anything.

The quadcore doesn't "cause problems" but the SoC does not have an LTE modem in it. LTE would require a separate modem/chip.
On the dualcore Qualcomm SoCs, the LTE modem is physically a part of the chip.

CPU question

Hi, newb here very confused about the (cpu) specs on this phone. I checked every where and am finding different results.
On the s3 main topic page, it clearly states "quad-core Exynos 4412 processor 1.40ghz". When I went to the store, and checked sprint's page, it says this phone has a 1.5ghz DUAL CORE processor. Either way, cant complain with a 1.5ghz dual core, considering its prob the fastest thing at the moment,
My (sprint) upgrade has been up since last year this time, and I have been waiting on something that will be future proof for the next 2 years, and I finally acted on it today. Lte, which I dont understand whether its way faster than 4g, but I know lte is prob the route to take.
1280p screen, can deal with that. Now, the quad core processor, which I know will prob have some major drain on the battery, til the Gods here make some really nice uv adjustments, disabling maybe 2 or 3 cores while phone is sleeping, and too much nothing that a bigger batt wont help, worse case scenario.
Now, im assuming games and apps will start being made to handle 4 cores, in the near future, maybe a year from now, so thats why a quad core would be extra handy, for future proofing.
So, my spidey senses tells me that different carriers have different specs? So, whats the true spec for the sprint version?
All the US models are dual core 1.5 GHz S4. The international model is quad core exynos 1.4 GHz. This forum is for international model I9300... There is a separate forum for US models
Thank God for pointing that out, im for certain, that wouldve been a guaranteed brick if I hadve start flashing things from this forum. Dude, I O U!!

Differences Between GT-9070 (s advance) and sII

Hi, recently bought and SII advance and i found that it has NO xda development section
they have a different chipset, but same processor and GPU and maybe modem?
is there a possibility to flash roms only doing some minor modification?
i'm waiting for a big NO, but who knows the power of xda wizards =p
The firmware for the s2 i9100 (Processore: Arm Cortex A9 Exynos 1.2ghz DUAL CORE ) ,are not compatible with s advance i9070 ( Processore:ARM Cortex-A9 dual core da 1GHz
Memoria:768MB di RAM ), there are hardware differences ,For you i 9070 can already have root permissions, but you have to wait to leave cooked rom , etc.
Bro u did a very big mistake.....ur phone is still new so sell it at soon as possible @higher price and buy gs2 i9100

Do not flash anything meant for Galaxy S2, on Your Phone (Galaxy S Advance).
You will only end up with a paper weight, if you do so.
You have been Warned!
