I've been really thinking of moving from 2.2 Official Froyo to CM7, but I don't know which one to move to. Should I go with Nightly or Stable? I don't know the difference between to two and what I'm mainly focusing on is the battery performance. Some say they get amazing battery life with CM7, and some say the battery life is total garbage.
To all of you who have used CM7 or still use it, which one should I move to and how is the battery life on each of them? Thanks!
Just yesterday I was at 13hours I'm on build 168 I believe

168 is a nightly.

Found out the difference between the two, now I need to know how to install it safely. Should I use ODIN or Clockwork? Where can I find a descriptive tutorial for them?
Do you want us to teach you how to wipe yourself after you poop; maybe do your homework for you so you don't have to learn anything? Oh wait, how about you take up smoking and we'll smoke all the cigarettes for you.

As far as I know, we haven't had a true, clean, non-CM, AOSP ROM since 2.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773127&highlight=Vanilla). I tried with Froyo with only partial success. It seems that the mods that the CM team has done allow us to work around the fact that HTC hasn't given us new drivers & libs since 2.1 and we are still on a 2.6.29 kernel. So, that's why you see new CM ROMs, but not AOSP.
That's how I understand it anyway. As always, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
And feel free to prove me wrong by building a GB AOSP ROM! I'd love to see one. It's nice to have options.

cool, got it loaded and on nand for later toying. Up to now I've been using a market GB launcher port (Launcher2 its called) on CM7 when the mood hit for a vanilla GB feel (which makes it feel very simular to this rom). I cant explain but there's an envy I get everytime I look at a vanilla nexus gingerbread (and its not the phone). I also had this complex with asop froyo but got over it.

Safest is always full wipe, but if noone in the Tazz 17 thread has said what worked for them, you could do a nandroid, just wipe Dalvik (not .android-secure) and flash over. Then if it gives trouble, nandroid restore your backup, backup your apps your favorite way (if you want to), then do a full wipe and flash, then restore your apps.

They're not stable (otherwise they'd be in the "stable" branch instead of nightly), but they're not gonna brick your phone either.
Expect bugginess, but overall it's not too bad.
Installing CM7 with ROM Manager Premium is "so easy a caveman can do it"!
Its the reason I purchased premium.

Careful there. With the exception of GPS not working, i'd say this is just as stable as bionix. What makes them not stable, is flashing every single nightly release. If you read about the different versions and aren't too flash happy then you'll be pleased.

Uninstalled and reinstalled Clockwork fixed it.
Note to noobs:
You don't need to buy rom manager premium to flash cm7 nightlies. Just download the rom and flash it. takes a whole 10 seconds longer but it's free and almost just as easy. The nightlies are posted here: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=vibrantmtd
I have this site bookmarked on my vibrant and simply download it right onto the phone. Once it's done you have to move the file from the download folder to the root of the sd card then reboot into recovery and flash away.

Which is why the nightlies as a whole aren't reliable. If you want a "stable" device, that probably means that you don't want to be checking the CM7 nightly thread each day for a stable release. It's not exactly intuitive that nightly 13 is *less* reliable than the earlier nightly 8, for example.
Again, if the nightlies were "stable", there would be a stable branch for the Vibrant. They are pretty much good enough for daily use, but there are certainly dragons.

Don:t use the Gingerbread leak! It could ruin your SD card! I recommend Community ROM 2.1 or Evil Fascination 3.6.0.

As for the actual question, why not try jt's CM7? It's very stable and I've been using it without issue. Though it does have the same bugs as the MIUI ROM.

Okay, I guess I wasn't clear in my last response to you so let me rephrase what I said in that other thread:
There is no good reason whatsoever to use DJ05. Even if you want to run Eclair, it's still outdated.
Why you'd choose Eclair over Froyo (or Gingerbread, if you don't mind some problems) is a mystery to me, but again, even if you want to run 2.1 instead of 2.2 or 2.3 DJ05 is the wrong choice.
EDIT: Also, as the above poster hinted at, please do read the stickied posts, particularly this one about posting in the wrong section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038478

Hey there, welcome to the forums.
Well, first of all.. tell me a little bit.
What are you looking for?
Speed? Good Battery Life? Froyo, Gingerbread? Do you care? GPS? etc.
personally bionix 1.3.1 was my favorite for froyo, but if you want Ginger cm7 nighty is the way to go. miui is popular, but for the most part, it turns the vibrant into something completely. . . different.
flash away man. see what works for you. the vibrant is virtually unbrickable.

I use Toxic8 with Bali X 1.2kernel (gingerbread theme) and it is snappy, stable and battery lasts really well. Quadrant (although I despise it) gives about 2000 average.
I even used the GPS to get me to somewhere that MapQuest failed big time. Place was so far out that the roads didn't have names anymore, just numbers. But GPS took me right to the front door.
I'll try it out. Can you send me the links?

I've gone from Cyanogenmod7 to Trigger to Toxic Crazy 8. Cyanogen was horrible, as I was still a noob and it was terribly buggy then.
I suggest toxic Crazy 8. Flashed it a couple weeks ago, and it's beautiful. I decided to stay with Froyo because it's been around longer (more time to perfect it) and it's much more battery efficient. I get 44 hours of light use out of my phone, on one charge (Screenshots soon, I'm busy now...) It's also super smooth, just follow their install instructions. I've never had it lag and I can't stress how amazingly smooth it is.... xD Have fun flashing! Just keep some backups handy...
Edit: I failed to mention I'm running on Bali, OC'd to 1.2 Ghz (It came with Toxic, and I have no reason to change)
Here's Toxic Crazy8
Ok, sorry to bring this Q here. I know i know - go look, search, find out. I hear you.
Been researching for a full day. But somethings require YOUR experience.
I am looking for a stable (!), good-battery (!) and bare-bone (minimal) ROM for my Vibrant.
(maybe my hate from running background stuff comes from ignorance, since I am no wiz when it comes to android)
I use GMAIL, Whatsapp, and Google Voice, and I can't stand running processes
Is there a ROM that you know to be made with this in mind?
Thanks !!!
