Exactly what he ^^^^ said. It's been my daily driver for weeks.

They're not stable (otherwise they'd be in the "stable" branch instead of nightly), but they're not gonna brick your phone either.
Expect bugginess, but overall it's not too bad.

Installing CM7 with ROM Manager Premium is "so easy a caveman can do it"!
Its the reason I purchased premium.

Interesting.. I just tried that and during the install if failed at the point where it looks like it was trying to figure out what device I had. I guess it doesn't like my current ROM?

Careful there. With the exception of GPS not working, i'd say this is just as stable as bionix. What makes them not stable, is flashing every single nightly release. If you read about the different versions and aren't too flash happy then you'll be pleased.

Uninstalled and reinstalled Clockwork fixed it.

Note to noobs:
You don't need to buy rom manager premium to flash cm7 nightlies. Just download the rom and flash it. takes a whole 10 seconds longer but it's free and almost just as easy. The nightlies are posted here: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=vibrantmtd
I have this site bookmarked on my vibrant and simply download it right onto the phone. Once it's done you have to move the file from the download folder to the root of the sd card then reboot into recovery and flash away.

Which is why the nightlies as a whole aren't reliable. If you want a "stable" device, that probably means that you don't want to be checking the CM7 nightly thread each day for a stable release. It's not exactly intuitive that nightly 13 is *less* reliable than the earlier nightly 8, for example.
Again, if the nightlies were "stable", there would be a stable branch for the Vibrant. They are pretty much good enough for daily use, but there are certainly dragons.

As far as I know, we haven't had a true, clean, non-CM, AOSP ROM since 2.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773127&highlight=Vanilla). I tried with Froyo with only partial success. It seems that the mods that the CM team has done allow us to work around the fact that HTC hasn't given us new drivers & libs since 2.1 and we are still on a 2.6.29 kernel. So, that's why you see new CM ROMs, but not AOSP.
That's how I understand it anyway. As always, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
And feel free to prove me wrong by building a GB AOSP ROM! I'd love to see one. It's nice to have options.

cool, got it loaded and on nand for later toying. Up to now I've been using a market GB launcher port (Launcher2 its called) on CM7 when the mood hit for a vanilla GB feel (which makes it feel very simular to this rom). I cant explain but there's an envy I get everytime I look at a vanilla nexus gingerbread (and its not the phone). I also had this complex with asop froyo but got over it.

Safest is always full wipe, but if noone in the Tazz 17 thread has said what worked for them, you could do a nandroid, just wipe Dalvik (not .android-secure) and flash over. Then if it gives trouble, nandroid restore your backup, backup your apps your favorite way (if you want to), then do a full wipe and flash, then restore your apps.

What ROM do you like best?

Just out of curiosity, what Rom is everyone currently using and what is your favorite and why? I'm currently using CM7 and I do love it.

Cm7 had a few bumps along the way but sticking it out has definitely been worth it. Everything runs better than perfect. Great wifi, gps that locks in under 10secs, super smooth and super fast. Not to mention an amazing amount of customizability.
Oh and lets not forget the amazing kernel drowning has made for cm7.

As far as I know this the only kernel that's current with cm7: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970543
You flash it just like a rom; wipe cache/dalvik from recovery and flash the zip. And of you ever want the stock kernel back you just wipe cache/dalvik and re-flash cm7. You wont lose any data/settings.

Thank you very much! Just flashed it. It's so nice to be back to loving my phone again
I'm a big fan of Liberated 2.2.2, I think I was using it the first day I had my phone. Everything is working perfect and with moderate use I can squeeze 2 days out of the battery. I live in a little bit of a valley so at home I put the phone on Edge and use wifi if I want to go online. Haven't tried CM7 in a few months so I probably will again at some point, just being lazy. CM7 or CM8 w/sense 3.0? When that gets released I'll be all over it!
Ditto-ed on CM7, did it for a friend, and all his friends on the later models (stock roms wildfire s and like) are still wowing XD

Great news. If this new rom doesn't kill sd cards, then I might finally make the switch back to a Touchwiz-based rom. AOSP roms are still unstable in a lot of ways.

Yea, AOSP still has a few minor bugs but it's heads and tails above anything TW has to offer. With the introduction of fascinatemtd (thanks to jt1134) we can finally do away with TW.

[Q] CM7 Stable or Nightly?

I've been really thinking of moving from 2.2 Official Froyo to CM7, but I don't know which one to move to. Should I go with Nightly or Stable? I don't know the difference between to two and what I'm mainly focusing on is the battery performance. Some say they get amazing battery life with CM7, and some say the battery life is total garbage.
To all of you who have used CM7 or still use it, which one should I move to and how is the battery life on each of them? Thanks!
Just yesterday I was at 13hours I'm on build 168 I believe

[Q] Best CM build for SGA?

Hey forum,
I would like to know what is the best build for my galaxy ace of CyanogenMod.
I downloaded this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360889, but the Market has a huge fault when downloading. So I can't download anything.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a Fully working CM7 build?
Officail is the only build by lots of bugs rather try cm7.2 by frozen ace team awesome
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
Have a read up on all the ones available as they all have bugs. Most noticably on the unofficial ones is the battery drain. Its difficult to answer whats the best as it depends on what kind of a features are important to you.
Read each thread paying particular attention to the bugs/things not working.
When you feel you informed enough make a choice, flash one and see how it goes.
(alternatively, flash each one and decide that way.
