Is there a way to disable the normal call screen, you know someone calls you and what not...I'm using full screen caller I'd, market search it (good app)...also I've never been a fan of stock phone/contacts so I use alternate means ie...go contacts/DW contacts...is there a way to safely delete associated files within the phone because everytime I did delete stock phone I would get a lingering FC...I could freeze using titanium backup but the phone and contacts still remains on the phone...maybe I could extract oxygenation rom find the files and replace with dw contacts re zip the file and flash but I'm sure I'd get FC

You do need the files, so leave them on the phone
Some programs rely on them.
But if you really want to try, delete them and after fc, reboot your phone, sometimes that works.

The title says it. I use chomp or Handcent so there is no point for the stock messaging app.
Unless you cook your own rom and remove the messenging apk file, or find how to remove it on the device using a file manager like estrongs, or astro.

If you use chompSMS and remove your stock messaging app you will not be able to receive text, only send them.that's what happened to me when I used titanium back up to remove stock app and used chomp...didn't try handcent though

Make sure you nand backup before attempting to try to remove it. I always removed it on most roms with no problems but since flashing kaosfroyo, I'm reluctant since I did it on my wife's moto droid with froyo you are not supposed to remove it. Not sure if it's a froyo thing. You can remove it via adb or if you have root explorer app, you can go into /system/app and delete Mms.apk (make sure your system is mounted as read-write)

I tried it recently with Handcent. Was able to send and not receive.
Best to just leave it alone & turn off the notifications in the stock app.
I have just recently rooted my phone and now I can't receive or send text messages. I was wondering if there was an app that I may have removed on accident. I still can receive phone calls tho. Thank you for any information.
What else did you do besides rooting? As far as I know just rooting will not break MMS or SMS.
What method did you use to root? If anything I would say your radio is wrong but we would need to know more information.
I tried to put Froyo on the phone but failed at it twice, so I decide to restore to factory settings and just root with FascinateRoot_v02. Installed Titanium Backup, SetCPU, Root Explorer. Went through Titanium Backup and removed the Verizon Apps like Music, Video, Nav, etc. and some other bloat ware.
When you say "went back to factory" how did you go about doing that?
I used this to go to Froyo the first time, there is one that is just the leaked version a clean version and all of the SuperClean roms.

It's possible you deleted something when deleting the bloatware that you needed. I would suggest going back to stock using the stock odin files. Which is here I think, I have the files saved to my computer now.

Since you are using TB I would freeze apps before you remove them completely so you can be sure they wont mess up your need to have apps
make sure there is no +1 in the number you are texting... as in +1-999-999-999
@Roblovesbox
Thank you, texting is working again.
Also I was wondering what would be an easy ROM to install that is Froyo?
The first link has Odin files of the superclean Rom. Or if you are familiar with clockwork you get the zip file from the superclean thread in the development section of the fascinate forums.

Would removing 3G Mobile Hot spot, All Share, Car Cradle, and News & Weather effect my texting ability?
No.
There is a post somewhere either here or on android forums that has a list of the apps you can safely remove from your phone. Ill see if I can find it.

I have a o2 contract SGSII.
When I try and send a text message which is over 3sms in length, the phone converts it to a mms. This is annoying as I have to pay extra for mms whereas sms is included in my allowance.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Is there a way to stop it?
Thanks
Yup same thing here on Vodafone simfree phone. Be cool to get rid of this limit as I too get free sms but not mms!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
It is a known limitation of stock SMS Android application.
To get rid of this problem, use third party SMS apps, like Go SMS Pro (my favorite), Handcent SMS and many others.

Please please please Do!! Thanks in advance!
Many of us use sms a lot and i frequently send out long long long stories to my friends. Here in India while SMS is free for my carrier, MMS is charged!
So please help!
I like the stock app since it has a big field to write the messages, not just two or three lines unlike other.
Does any third party app have this?
Found what's causing it. Now just to figure out how to prevent it
Think it's fixed. I'll pop an experimental fix in VRTweaks for it in the XWKE2 ROM.
I set it to allow 9 SMS messages before making it into an MMS. Equally, I removed the 10 recipient limit and made it 200, for Christmas/New Year bulk texting
OK. Got a few files to test. Backup the files /system/app/mms.apk mms.odex. Delete MMS.odex now.
Then put these into /system/app/ and reboot. Let me know how it goes.
There's a couple to try. Give them a shot
Try first: www.villainrom.co.uk/SGS2/VRTweaks/XWKE2/TRYFIRSTmms.apk
Then if that fails, try: www.villainrom.co.uk/SGS2/VRTweaks/XWKE2/TRYSECONDmms.apk
Remember to rename to just "mms.apk" and let me know how it goes.
Downloading n flashing now gimmie some minutes,
EDIT:- Tried through Root Explorer would not let me install, must I push with ADB if so could you explain Iv'e forgotten how.

I have tried the files you have links to, but when rebooting the message app completely disappears.
When I revert to the backup files and reboot the messaging app comesback again.
@XenonAndroid you don't need to install just place files and reboot (I think).
If you have anymore files to try let me know.
Thanks for the effort!
The stock messaging app also opens mms images as videos for some reason
Is that fixable too?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
@Ohmz55; Im sure you rename default mms.apk, copy ova patched and then install it whilst in the System Directory as this is what i had todo to get CM mms.apk working.!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Strange..
Can someone do a logcat so I can see reason for the failure to appear? You need to reboot and look in the log for "mms.apk"
The fix will work, but I need to work out how to get round signature issues
thanks .. we are waiting
When you send a group sms to over 5 people it sends it as a sms for me (no charges) but all the people recieving it got it as an mms :/

Was that using this tweak, or with the stock ROM?
@pulser
I just wanted to clarify i was doing things correctly. This is my first android phone so excuse the noobiness.
I backed up the original mms.apk and mms.odex files.
Then i copied tryfirstmms.apk to system/app. Renamed to Mms.apk (the original had a capital M i dont know if its case sensitive). Then i deleted mms.odex.
Then reboot.
Root explorer gave me the option to install the mms.apk but when i tried it gave me a 'program was.not installed' message.
After the reboot the message app disappeared from the applications screens.
I will try and do a logcat but im just reading up about how to do it.

Sounds fine to me. No need to try to install the APK though... You just need to put it in the folder and reboot the phone You can restore your backups for now to be able to send messages, as I will explain...
I think this will only get fixed when I release VillainROM for the SGS, as I need more control over the system than I can get right now
This fix should work, but Android's security is rejecting the application due to signatures. I know how to fix it, but you need to use a different ROM base which I've been working on here
Hi all new here, go easy on me... haha
So I updated to gingerbread on my LG O1 (P500), but before I did that I made a backup of my texts with SMS Backup & Restore. I restored them on the new install, little did I know it would import them all as unread (roughly 5.5k of them)... so now my messaging app is completely useless - crashes every time it opens. I tried several apps to delete all the texts on the phone but they all crash, and I cant sit and let them run for a few hours because android pops up every few seconds informing me they've crashed/are lagging.
I really need to use messaging on my phone, dont care if I have the texts on the phone or not, just would like it to work... help??
Factory reset is probably your best option
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
how about restoring bits by bits? Say 100 at a time, and then check to see if your phone could handle them
Cheers did the factory restore. Not sure how to restore them in parts? They're all stored in one file.
Since i now have dual booting on i9100 thanks to siyahkernel
I was hoping to automatically backup new sms when recieved, and then when booting - restore any missing sms... is that possible? then it would appear seamless when switching between two roms no sms missing
ALSO only to SD card not using any data (i usually switch on the train)
Sorry but I don't think there is any apps doing that you explained :/
You can try this app thats backups your SMS to sdcard: http://slideme.org/application/sms-backup-restore
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
Don't know about automatic, but you could use SMSBackup from Play and manually restore.
The other way may be to look at SynchSMS, but that requires using Dropbox and data usage
Neither quite does what you're after though :-(
thanks for your reply, hmm is there no way to to have a boot script that can trigger the restore functionality of one of those programs - as i know android apps can rely on other apps surely they call and use java methods etc,
if i could invoke the method to save on shutdown or have a custom reboot command and make it save the same name everytime, and then on boot it restores the missing sms maybe its a possibility! its been a while since ive done java, might be able to get them terminal commands tho!
as with dual booting the data is seperate for each install... one thing i dnt like is going to the other rom and forgetting someone has text me xD call logs i can live without for now!
right now ive downloaded pansi sms its got built in autobackup and manual restore going to see if this is a temporary fix
EDIT:
okay so pansi sms works but... it takes ages to backup 700 messages... is there any way to only backup the last 100 sms? that would only take around 20 secs to recover
