Hey guys,
I'm trying to find out if it would be entirely possible to either buy the Rezound overseas and use it with an european carrier, or if that would not be supported whatsoever.
If it isn't supported, is there any news about a european release of the handset or an equal to? Or will I be stuck with the Sensation XE?
Regards,
Vex
It is a CDMA/LTE only phone. It would not work at all in Europe. I would suggest the Sensation XE.

From my understanding the Sensation XE is the same phone as the Rezound, however, it is for use on GSM bands not CDMA (like the Rezound). The only expections being the screen and possibly the camera.
Still not a bad phone by any means.
I am sure there will be a phone similar to the Rezound in Europe. Look how quickly they replaced the Sensation with the XE. There will be something shortly that matches or exceeds the specs of the Rezound.

This isn't a typical question, I know the Hero GSM can't communicate on the GPRS network for 3G service on AT&T.
My question is, is it possible to harvest the harware radio from another HTC device, say a Tytn II (because I have one of those) and replace those parts in the Hero so it can listen on those bands?
Has anyone tried this? Or am I just up in the night with thoughts I shouldn't be thinking?

I'd say this, to be honest. I don't think that the SPL would take kindly to some random radio, and drivers wouldn't work.
Bummer... Figured that'd be the answer. The radio should work though right? The crystals just have to be tuned to whatever band the waves are coming in at. I can get Edge and 2G no problem, but would love to get 3G... Stupid ATT and Apple, complete lack of good android phones because of those lamesauce iPhones... I'm just curious to see if anyone with a geek level well beyond mine has experimented with swaping that kind of hardware, and if it is something could be possible to swap.
Umm, it shouldn't be too hard for you to procure a Canadian Hero from Telus.
FYI, the Canadian Hero supports the 850/1900MHz frequencies that are needed for 3G on ATT.

OMG!? I was unaware that this device existed! That will work for sure! Be nice to have a spare to screw with anyway. Thank you!

Yeah, this variation of the Hero mostly goes unnoticed on these forums because it's compatible with the European ROMs and radios.
Actually I'm using one of those Telus Heros in Costa Rica, our 3G network uses 850Mhz as AT&T, mine is rooted, and with a Custom Rom VR12 with custom Kernel running @710mhz.
I got mine unlocked from negrielectronics
Good luck
Hey guys,
I think I know the answer, but i just want to make sure.
I am actually living in the United States, but I am moving to france in two months.
Before i'm leaving i would like to buy an HTC rezound. I just would like to know if i can unlock it and install a custom rom, And it will be working on any of the french networks ( with a sim card from a french network)
If you have an answer to my question. Please let me know.
Thanks.
Sure, but just buy a true GSM phone. It doesn't work 100%, as of now.
What do you when you say a true GSM phone ?
One that is not developed/sponsorised by any network ?

One that is designed to work on GSM networks. The Rezound can work on GSM networks, but it's not 100%.
Basically the GSM part of the Rezound is an added bonus, not a reason to buy the phone.
Something like the one X
Looking to pick up the HTC Amaze from Mobilicty for $$300 and I have a quick question regarding the 3G capabilities. Do the ROMs or any mods from XDA here support the standard 3G networks, and not the AWS ones? I'm considering picking one up and then SIM unlocking it for use on the standard Rogers/Fido/Telus/Bell network, assuming it can be SIM unlocked.

Sim unlock for free via s-off, I dunno about the 3G factor, though I do think it has them.
Really? Because on my Samsung Galaxy S, only specific modems have specific network bands, so I was thinking similar things would apply to the HTC Amaze. I do see that you're using a Telus ROM, so there's probably a Telus radio....
All Amazes no matter what carrier support the same bands out of the box, no radio flashing needed. You'll be able to use the Amaze on telus/rodgers, no idea about fido/bell youll have to see if the network uses the 800/950/1900/2100 3g bands

Got mine for 250 locally, changed the back cover and applied a screen protector, it's practically new now, normally goes for 350 in the condition I got it.

I'm wondering for the purposes of recoveries, custom ROMs, radios, etc.. if the Telus and AT&T versions of the One X+ will be identical? In other words, can any ROM for the AT&T version be flashed onto the Telus version? What about radios? recoveries? Etc.? Thanks.
Nope different software
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
Actually, they should be compatible. Usually NAM (North American Model) phones accept the same ROMs. For example, my HTC Amaze 4G is on T-Mobile USA, Telus, Wind, and Videotron. They all accept the same custom ROMs and even custom kernels. Since the HOX+ for Telus has LTE, hardware wise, it should be 99.9% identical and the software will be slightly different. Telus has no bloat, but AT&T does.
Really? Wouldn't the radios pose problem

Thanks for the replies.
To be clear, my question is, will the Telus and AT&T versions of the One X+ be identical hardware? I don't care what software ships on them. I just want to know if the hardware will allow installation of the exact same ROMs, kernels, radio firmware, recovery images, etc.

Not necessarily. People from the Amaze 4G section flashed Telus RUUs on T-Mobile phones and vice versa. No issues. However, that is hypothetical. Since the Telus/AT&T model have the same frequencies, it SHOUDLNT have an issue, by as I said, hypothetically.

As I explained above, it shouldn't be an issue. They should have the same radio, with slight tweaks to match the carrier.
Someone confirmed that the AT&T recovery worked for the Telus HOX+ so that means they have identical hardware.
Many thanks folks as I had the same exact question. I am wanting to buy one for use in the US but I'll be damned if I buy it from at&t as I already give them too much money for service...
MG
With the regular HOX they were identical. As a matter of fact i have a telus radio on my ATT hox, worked better for me than the ATT ones. Roms were identical. I'd assume it would be the same with the +, I haven't compared hardware though.

Yeah, I'd like to get one to use in the U.S. also. The next question is where? Is eBay the only option?
i thought lots of people were bricking their phones by not reading the ROMs all the way through and trying to flash an international coded ROM onto their ATT phone
I think I'm finally in the market for a new phone after 3 yrs with my HTC MyTouch.
Seems like the OG is the best value for me (other options are the Nexus 4, HTC One, Galaxy S3). I doubt anyone in this forum will point me to a different phone, but if there's a good argument for the others (or others that I don't know about), I'd certainly listen. The OG seems cheaper/better specs than the S3, and the HTC has no SD card. N4 is a consideration, and for me it seems that capacitative buttons are the only downside v. the OG.
Anyway, here are my questions:
1. Can I use the AT&T version on a T-mobile or simple mobile plan? It looks like I should be able to get 4g no problem...
1a. The "unlocking" methods in the forums--are they for complete unlocking? That is, can I buy a locked AT&T phone and unlock it myself?

Specs dont mean everything. I had an HTC Evo 3D, there are things the 3D does better than OG, at least in my case.
you can use
i have used ATT, Simple mobile, AND H20
ATT= obviously works best! lte almost everywhere...and hspa+ isnt bad when im not in 4g zone..
simple mobile -> runs from what i found on 2g and LTE and SOMETIMES3g.. (rarely)
H20= uses ATT towers so 3g all the way!

Ended up going with an AT&T Galaxy S3 (many more available on ebay), awaiting arrival. Very confusing, since the earlier T-mo s3's don't support LTE, and the AT&Ts should support LTE on T-mo's network but not their hspa (I think). The newer T-mo S3's were >$100 more than the other 2 versions.
Oh, and it doesn't look like freemyblackberry.com is offering free codes anymore.
