Best Tablets right now - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Seeking your opinions, much cherished xda clan...
Just won a 16GB iPad 2 but selling it to a co-worker so I can get an Android tablet.
I'm most interested is using a tablet to read ebooks and comics, browse the web and maybe watch videos. I'd like to keep some cash from the sale so i'm looking to spend $399 max.(ideally $300 or less), prefer 10".
What are your tablet suggestions?

Do you only want Android?
Because I think HP Touchpad runs on WebOs (not sure at all ) but I've heard it's really good.

Yeah, just Android...but the Touchpad can run Android...

Lapdock or tablet

Like the title says.... which do you think should be my new toy? Lapdock for our phone or a particular tablet

Negative on the lapdock.
I've been looking into the Xoom vs galaxy 10.1 and I'm partial to the Xoom because of the stock honeycomb, unlockable/lockable bootloader, and aluminum back. Some of the GT10 devices suffer from 'oil slicks' when the screen touches the glass because it is so thin.
I've also been looking into the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet (not the ugly ideapad) but I'm thinking the dev community behind it wont be that great.

Peruse the Q&A and General sections for stories of the lapdock (both bad and good). However, between those two tablets I have no experience.

Just try to buy a TouchPad from the next batch of sales HP is supposedly gonna do in a week. By the time you ever get your hands on one, the CyanogenMod port will be out lol. Thankfully I was lucky enough to snag one within a week of the fire sale announcement. I'm typing this post on it right now actually.

What tablet do you suggest

I'm thinking of getting a tablet ...I was thinking Asus transformer or the prime ......any of you guys ....or girls got any suggestions on any others I should also look at or what you have

Prime is the best so far. More quads will come out in a few months tho.

Xoom Family on sale @ Bestbuy I think its $349
I'd love to get a tablet with Qualcomm's new chips more than anything. Likely holding out here till next yr and get one with it and enjoy lte modem built on the die of the chip and great battery life savings because of such.
If I had to get one now it'd be the prime more likely if cost didn't matter.
Though if cost didn't matter id shell out for Qualcomm's developer tablet that's supposed to.be available in the early spring finally.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and a Motorola Xoom
Both very very similar though i must say I like the Galaxy Tab 10.1 more. The Xoom just cam down in price since the Xoom 2 is about to be releases, so maybe u can get a bargain...
If $ is not an issue, prime. I got my wife a kindle fire and for a basic tab it's great for $199

I know this gets said often, but I would wait until March/April if you can. The main reason is that the iPad 3 should be released and there will probably be a few quad-core Android tablets. So even if you would be happy with a Tegra 2 tablet, those devices will drive the price down on the older models. However, if you don't care and you just want something NOW, then I would get the Prime. Biggest bang for the buck in that it costs $100 less than a comparable iPad 2 and most of the other Tegra 2 tablets out there. (I always laugh when people say it costs the same, but they compare a 32gb Prime against a 16gb whatever)
That's the tablet I'm buying, i can't wait to have my prime

Well, if you want the 7" form factor with stylus support, a Flyer at $299 isn't half bad. From what I understand the handwriting recognition is better than the Lenovo Thinkpad tablet which is more expensive and there aren't really many other games in town to support a stylus like that. So....sure, it's a valid recommendation for a specific audience.
Lately I have seen the Flyer going from $220-$250 at a lot of these Deal A Day/Slickdeal type of sites. Ebay even had a daily special last week for that price, for the Sprint Evo Tablet, no contract required.
Flyer - great for people that take lots of notes ( students?)
Xoom - This is what I have and i haven't had any issues with it. Just that its a bit on the heavy side
Galaxy Tab - Pretty much same as the xoom just that it doesn't have an expansion slot and its much lighter in weight
Prime - This thing is a beast!!
Im biased but for the price and spec's you can't beat the HP Touchpad.
Android or Webos, whichever one you want to run, plus top of the line specs for a dual core tablet. I love it.
Just get this

The Sony tablet s is great if you aren't planning on rooting it. It is by far the best dual core tablet.

Wikipad 3d

I was browsing and came across this tablet:
http://mobile.theverge.com/2012/5/3/2995878/wikipad-3d-gaikai-cloud-gaming-announcement
It will have a quad core tegra 3 processor and ship with Android 4 and retail at a mere $250 with the gamepad. What I'm wondering is, could this be better than the prime, for like half the price? It does look quite promising and you can switch from 2d to 3d anytime, on any app.
I was set to get the transformer 300 but may this be superior?
Thoughts?

The article doesn't mention that it will be $250. But it would be pretty cool is some third party manufacturer made something like this for the transformer prime.
If you view other articles, then I'm sure the price is meant to be $250. Unless they've changed their plans...

bump as I kinda need guidance on what to do, wait for this, or get the transformer?
Sent from my R800i using XDA
if you wait for the best thing there will always be something better just around the corner.
from what i read its a smaller screen and might not even be touchscreen, i dont know i didnt spend a lot of time reading about it... basically its a cheap android tablet that supports 3d and has a custom built gamepad dock.
The prime or 300 are more like premium built tablets that support a hell of a lot more than that gamepad, bigger screen, and a full keyboard dock, however slightly more expensive.
My quesitons for you are this:
Do you need a tablet right away
Will you be using it for games, videos, music, internet, etc.
Will a keyboard dock be benifitial to you
how often will you use the gamepad
will using a bluetooth controller (like a PS3 Controller) be an acceptable alternative
Basically, weigh out each benifit and downfall of each tablet and based on your own use determine which is the best fit for you. None of us can tell you which will be the best decision for you.

[Q] A decent ICS tablet?

I have a TF101 and my fiance steals it all the time to mess around or play games like angry birds, or around as equally demanding. I'm trying to find her a decent tablet running Android 4.0 (ICS) that I can afford on a $20 spare a week budget. The one she likes the looks of but I am unsure of any quality is this one on eBay. I planned to buy it under PayPals bill me later policy. Any opinions on that with PayPal?

Yes it does. She doesn't like the UI design of it though. She also made me promise I won't do any Modding to what I find lol.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
The problem with those unbranded tablets on ebay, etc is that you'll likely get no support after buying it. Meaning you won't see any Android updates, you don't really have any kind of warranty and there won't be much dev support out there. If you can afford it something like the Nexus 7 will be better long term as it will likely see the next few versions of Android without you needing to flash any ROMs. Those ebay tablets will be on ICS forever, which is already one version old. But the Nexus is quite a bit more than the cheap tablets so if you are fine with the limitations due to your budget get the cheaper one.
I don't think there is even a brand name tablet that I can afford. Problem is I only make $90 a week and $70 is used to get what we need and pay on my truck. I only have $20 spare generally so I'd need something I can get cheap on bill me later.

Xtreme tab 7 development

Picked up one of the tablets from Kmart on black Friday for 30 bucks. Any devs out there interested in this device?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I am kinda shocked. I figured there would be many people trying to mod this since it was so cheap. This is the 40 dollar android tablet from kmarts black Friday.
But I have a feeling many black Friday shoppers ended up promptly returning this once they discovered it's resistive touch display and laggy factory cpu settings.
The extent of this tablets discussion is at slick deals which I find hilarious. I love using mine for xfinity player. Plays just fine.
Was able to install play store, super user, and max cpu to 1200mhz with setcpu.
It does however only have a half gig of ram.
My roommate isn't even using hers so I would probably be able to work something out loaning one out (maybe if I could meet you in Chicago or the metropolitan area).
Thanks.
