[Q] Music player broke after offical update - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So there I was, enjoying life savoring a beautiful day, when I notice my phone got the lastest update from Verizon. I'm like about time. I go to play my favorite song via the stock music player (because its awesome) and I notice my player is now jacked.
In the song list if you start scrolling a scroll bar will appear on he right side. If you grab this bar it let's you scroll through the alphabit very quickly. Now when I grab it, it just shows # and doesn't do anything but return.me to the top of the page. Now I domt have time to tap or speak my song in search and with 3000 songs trying to play a song in the lower alaphabit sucks.
Please help me so I can take my player off random and listen to what I want.
No I don't want to use another player, I tried the popular ones already. Phone is stock.

I know you said you tried other alternatives but I heavily recommend you get uber music. Check it out

[Q] Strange Winamp Playback Glitch

No, it's not the one where my music stops at 2 minutes .
I have tried searching for this topic, but searching for Winamp glitch, or Winamp playback issue keeps on bringing back the same threads.
My glitch is pretty odd.
When playing a group of songs from a playlist or an album from a certain artist the song will occasionally insert another track -in the middle- of the currently playing track.
For example:
If I am currently playing Track 1, somewhere in the middle of the track the song will switch to Track 4 but Winamp is still showing that I'm playing Track 1 (with the minutes counting down as usual). If I let it continue playing, towards the end of the track I the song usually switches back to Track 1. If I skip the song it will skip as normal, if I go to the beginning of the song the problem replicates itself.
This does not happen all the time, but it happens often enough to annoy the **** out of me. Anybody experience a similar issue?
I have had this happen...with the stock player AND with Miui player. Just think of it as a mashup!
If it happened more often I would be quite annoyed...
I've had this happen as well using both the stock player and winamp. There seem to be a lot of bugs that Motorola shipped this device with. This one and the front microphone/44100hz sound recording bug are two of the worst in my opinion.

Yeah, a mash up would actually be the perfect way to describe what's happening. Although most times the songs don't match so it sounds like ****
So I guess nobody has come up with a solution?
Edit: Just to add... I won't be too bothered by this glitch if I could simply skip to the next track. The problem is, I usually listen to music during my commute on motorcycle (1 hour each way) and don't have access to the phone controls. So I'm stuck having to listen to the mismatched music till it ends.
Happens to me too.

This has happened several times to me using the default music app. Does anyone know if this happens on other phones or is it our specifically?
Well I came from a nexus one and this never happened. ever! On my atrix I've also noticed skips where its like a bad cd but... its not
Sent from my Atrix 4G
I had that problem too.
Just remove Winamp or your favorite Music Player from the Autoclose list in the Task Manager.
Get an app called "HeadSet Blocker" i had this issue on the default one. After using these..haven't had a song skipped yet. Its a widget so make you have turned on.

i use winamp every day and i've never came across this issue. i did previously experience a glitch with the song skipping in the beginning of the song but i no longer have that issue. running GingerBlur v1.3, latest winamp version. I also didnt experience this on the stock rom or on GladiAtrix.
Anybody getting distorted sound? I think it nay be a sample rate issue. Doesn't matter the level certain songs have clear distortion like its clipping but its not.

Try this song on your Atrix. Distorted for me.

I had this happen to me a couple of times
I'm not sure if you are describing the bug I have had or not. I've had the default music player essentially just start taking over when I'm already using a different player. If you are rooted you can safely freeze the default music app and it fixes this problem.
I used to be a big fanboy of WinAmp, now due to too many failures /hickups I moved to MixZing. This player just works and I never experienced ANY problems.
Big thumbs up for that one - I'm never going back.
Try it out if you are not too hung up on ONLY WinAmp...
I've absolutely had this! Glad I'm not alone.
Its happened with the stock player, the leaked new player from a week ago, and even with doubleTwist.
Its rare and each time seems to be caused when I skip a track then decide to go backwards to the previous one.
All through the song its like it wants to skip back to the middle of the one I was on before I skipped back.
+1 for Mixzing. Just tried it now & it seems way better than stock or Winamp. Thanks, Robert_it.

[Q] Your opinion of the stock music player?

Was just wondering what you all thought of the stock music player, and why so many of you hate it?
I personally love it, it's very simple and easy to use. The sound quality is great.
I've tried powerAMP,etc. But I always come back to the stock music player.
I prefer the stock over PlayerPro, which I bough for my Motorola Atrix. It just feels more "intergrated" and functional. Love the status bar controll

I personally prefer the stock player, for the same reasons mentioned above. The specific things that I like:
- Notification controls
- Stock lock screen controls
The only dislike:
- No widget
I'm currently using Music Timer Widget which works really nicely with the stock music player. I have also tried the controls provided via Widgetsoid2.x and although they do work, the view isn't always updated correctly.
The stock player was unusable for me for two reasons:
1. No widget. There are a couple of widgets on the market that claim to work with it, but the only one that worked for me only worked sometimes, and was slow to respond and update.
2. It forgets the last playing position. This happened to me a lot, and turned out to be a deal breaker for me.
I switched to winamp and have been relatively happy with it (gapless playback and jumping to current artist or album would be nice, but I can live without them).
Dont dislike the stock music player, but for some reason it i didnt feel "at home" with it.
I dont like the look of PowerAmp but its my preferred choice (love how it downloads album art for me)
For me, the biggest problem was the lack of support for M3U playlists; all my other devices support them, so I had a number already made when I got the SGS2.
Playerpro + dsp 10 bands equalizer
You also have several widgets, lock screen replacement, shake control, hands free controls, skins and more.
For those using A2DP, the stock player is the only one that transmits song/artist data to devices capable of receiving it. It also supports shuffle and repeat that a lot of other players don't.
I usually listen to podcasts that lasts 30+ minutes or so.
The stock player doesn't remember the position if you exit.
It's fine if you're listening to a 2 minute song, but with a 30+ mins podcasts, it is more likely you won't listen to it in one sitting, but would come back to it several times a day or a week.
I personally use Ice Cream Sandwich - Google Music 4.0 ..
it has a nice user interface yo !
im using Poweramp - mainly cause i bought it for my Xperia Arc to playback .flac files.. and i like the App.. so figured might as well keep using it on the s2
i'm a stock music fan too, tried several but always come back to it,plain simple and good quality
The only thing I don't like about the stock player is that it forgets what I was playing if I exit it. Other than that it's really good. Samsung should do something about that.

Stock player is alright. But PowerAMP was worth just every single buck!
Functionality wise stock player is ok.
But when it comes to equalizer, I settled with PowerAMP.
Like PowerAMP for the following reasons.
1. 32Hz equalizer
2. Bass knob in addition to equazlier
3. Lock screen
4. Widget

Has anyone noticed that the default Car Dock app now allows other music players?

Don't know if this already mentioned but my default car dock now shows Pandora rather than Tune In Radio. When the car dock starts, you can see that one widget change from TuneIn Radio to Pandora. I also just now noticed that if you flick the screen to the left 2 times, it should list your music players you have on your phone. Whatever from the list is the last one used, is the one that will come up in the car dock default widget.

Nice tip. Now I can use Pandora while on the car dock mode. :good:
In an interview about the phone before release the rep stated you would be able to make your own shortcuts to other apps (he expressly stated music and other), glad to see they didn't make him a liar like they have done to so many other reps
You rooted or stock? I went between stock car dock and another market one this passed weekend. Stock never changed or allowed me to put Pandora in.

I forgot how to do it but its there, it should be an option when removing links
Would love to know how you did that, it doesnt show up for me.
Yup, I knew it'd be there when I saw the one x get it.
It replaces the music shortcut on the home page, with the last used music app.

I'm rooted running Stock with Goodies with the latest OTA. All I did from the car dock home screen is scroll to the right til you see the music apps you have installed on your phone. You have to have more than just the built-in TuneIn Radio. Choose a music app and go back to the Car dock home screen and it should replace the default TuneIn radio shortcut with the music player you just chose.
How does it decide what a music app is? It doesn't look like its picking up Play Music or Dogcatcher, the two I would care about.
I'm using CarHome Ultra because it seems to have nice customization options.
One of them being it will start up when my bluetooth connects to my car. I also like the fact I can put shortcuts to facebook, Gmail, etc on one of the numerous screens.

I'd really like to know how you did that. I want to add either Pandora or Slacker in there. TuneIn isn't really useful to me.

I second this question. When you swipe left twice, it actually just gives you the options for Internet radios (TuneIn, TuneIn Pro, SoundHound, and Pandora for me), but there's no option to change what music player is being used. The one used by default is HTC's Music player, which only plays music stored on the phone/sd card. Like maxpower, I'd like to use Play Music, as all my music is stored in Google's cloud.

It has already been stated twice, the last music app that you used is what will show up in the tile on the car home screen. This is the only way you can change it. You can also add additional music apps by going to the HTC music app, then hitting menu, then add app shortcut. I added SiriusXM this way, now it shows on in the car music apps screen.
Wow.. Thanks.. It does work.. Went to the default music app.. Hit menu and added Google play music.. Went to car dock app.. Swiped left and tapped on the play music icon and now it's on the front of the dock app.. Thanks again..

musiXmatch Lyrics... stand alone or in conjunction with something like PowerAmp via a plugin.
Tunewiki displays lyrics, although I just got an email from Tunewiki saying it won't be available anymore after June 28. I just installed and it displayed lyrics to music that was playing in Google Music app, but the lyrics didn't scroll in time with the song

Music app which can auto-crossfade playlist?

Hello all, I am searching the net for a music app which will auto-crossfade a playlist of tunes. According to the description, it seems that the Rocket Player app can do this but I installed it and there's a gap between the tunes. Is there any other app I can try or if Rocket player can do this, how can I get support from it's developer please?
jet-audio
Thanks, I tried it, it is not auto-crossfading so I have written to the developer for help.
what do you mean by "auto-crossfading". if it has anything got to do with fading out the end of the current song and fading into the new song its there

I mean I select a playlist and the software will play every song on it's own without myself having to select song after song, like a shuffle feature but it will crossfade every tune so no gaps in between the tunes.

Same deal with blackplayer, even though the "gapless" option is selected it is not crossfading, would you mind checking the audio preferences in blackplayer on your android phone and let me know what else is checked so I can set mine the same way please?
You could try PlayerPro. Been with for ages, and always come back to it. It's even running right now, crossfading as you wish
Tapatalked from my Note 3
i think what you're looking for is something like Mix and Mash on iTunes. This program allows you to choose the songs you like (either individually or by playlist) and then you crossfade songs for any length of time. Plus, you don't have to play the entire song, you can choose to play whatever amount of time you would like and songs usually begin playing somewhere in the middle, so you don't have to listen to the beginning or end of a song.
Is there an app like this for android???
Poweramp. It's not free, but I believe there is a trial. I've used it for years now. It's one of the few apps have made the journey from Gingerbread to Nougat with me, lol... Turn on the cross-fading in the settings, and play any song from the 'All Songs' list. You can turn on shuffle or let the list play in order. There are two settings [other than off] under Auto-advance fading, one is to only crossfade songs that aren't gapless and the other is to crossfade all songs. You might have to change the setting to the 'Crossfade all songs' setting, as many songs I've tried don't seem to do it. This creates a problem if you want to listen to an album that is gapless (no delay between tracks), so toggle the setting as needed
I found one called media monkey and it has a cross-fade in the settings. throw a playlist in and it mixes all tracks with no silence
In case anyone is still looking, the best crossfade I found is "neutron music player" (evaluation version). All other players (Pi music player, dub music player) I tried will "crossfade" only if I follow playlist order, but there is an obvious break if I randomly pick a song from the list. I use this app to play pad music and have to choose different files as needed instead of following the order of playlist.
However, neutron has really horrendous interface compared to others. Not user friendly at all, I would have given it up immediately if I could find something else that works.
