Is there a comparison somewhere, or someone knowledgeable on the subject that can help me out. Is there a reason to pick one over the other? This stems from when I use speaktoit assistant it prompts me to know whether I want to use Pico or Samsung. Thanks!
Just try them out and pick the one you like.
You can always change this in setting-->voice input and output
Personally I prefer Pico than Samsung, sounds a bit more natural.
You can also buy Loquendo TTS from the Market, which is much better than these two.

Be aware, Samsung tts messes up Google navigation voice badly
I have been using IVONA and have been more than pleased at the natural sound of this TTS engine.
I use svox classic myself

Hey Friends is there any app available for android just like SIRI personal Assistent.
Speaktoit Assistant - have a look at this
Vlingo looks good too
Try Voice Actions. It's like a modified version of Google Voice Search with extra functionality, such as "order me a pizza", "news about Bill Clinton", "what's the weather like?" etc.
plenty of apps are there now like
1. voice actions (i like the most)
2. speaktoit assistant
3. andy
4. iris
5. risi
6. vlingo
7. Eva
when i try any of those it says my device can't recognize voices... any ideas? am i missing something?
Download from market Google Voice Search and a Speech Synthesis.
At Iris (I have tested only this) better set your system to English language.

i did, but for some reason it still says the same...
iris dude....
OK guys, I'm either dumb or it's really not working for me. Tried synthesis, iris, and every other crap there is and it's just not working. Any ideas or tutorial so I can start from scratch and try to set it up?
I'm using Kyorarom v0.4.0.
Hmm I don't know why it can't run...
You have some error?
For me it is working after installing Google Voice Search, and SpeechSynthesis Data Installer(you need installer, because other don't work)

Get voice search from market
LoL. I went to the Market to get Voice Search and it says that it's not compatible with my device. WTF Google?
Can anyone send me .apk please?
EDIT:
Found .apk. If anyone has similiar problems apk is here.
This one is far superior https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.outpushdev.mira
Hi,
I have just got a Samsung Galaxy S 5.0 UK YP-G70 model with 2.2.2 Froyo.
I purchased a SVOX voice from the market and tried to enable the SVOX classic tts engine but the tick box is greyed out. Installing IVONA TTS has the same issue. Unable to enable the engine so cannot make it the default engine.
So can somebody else confirm that only the PICO TTS engine is usable on 2.2.2.
Can anybody who has flashed to 2.3.x confirm or deny they can use alternative text to speech engines.
Anybody who has rooted confirm other engines in use.
Any help would be much appreciated as it was purchased for use by my father in law who is losing his ability to speak. If it is confirmed that Samsung have broken something then it will be going back to the store for a refund .
Cheers
Phil
No, loquendo tts works like a charm on my g70 with gingerbread (I'm pretty sure it works on froyo too)
Updated to 2.3.5 Gingerbread and was able to enable other TTS engines. Other people seemed to be reporting 2.2.2 issues with TTS.

hey guys! is there a way to change Samsung voice recognition by vilingo to Google voice recognition??
Google voice engine is better and servers work FAST in every country.
Vlingo is hell too slow... 15 seconds for each phrase (slow servers from my country)
thanks guys!
ps: Changing voice and input from phone settings WONT WORK, dont bother to answear that
ps2: IF WE CHANGE THIS SETTING: people with other phones will be able to use this app. Actually Samsung blocks servers to every phone that it's not an SIII
You need a search engine and search for XDA Google Now .
Or start by reading the Google now post in General .

The idea is to use S VOICE, google now is not the same for samsung phones.
Please, do not recomend another app. Please, let's try to change the voice recognition of the S VOICE.
Thats the idea of this post
Thanks anyway.
S Voice is dead and will cease to exist for the SGS3 in a few weeks .
But good luck in trying to mod S Voice .

I've searched everywhere and cant find the answer to this.
Does anyone know if the stock jelly bean rom will ship with s voice?
Will unrooted users be able to replace the functionality of s voice with google now?
S voice and Google Now are not mutually exclusive: you can have both on the device and both are included.
The default voice recognizer can be set to either.

both are different
Yes sire

The answer is No. S-Voice was from Samsung, and Samsung will remain it our S3.
thanks for the help, i havent been impressed by s voice and im eager to try google now
S-voice isn't that bad, it understands me but is slow and Siri is better. Google Now beats Siri so I'd like to think there was a way of making that the default voice recognizer program (like if you double tap home button it brings up that instead)
Doubletap-Home is a Samsung-Touchwiz feature, not an Android feature. It is thus hardwired to S-Voice.
FYI, hold menu button to open google now
then s voice as usual is double click home button

Other apps such as Skyvi can overtake it though. If you install Skyvi and double-tap the home button, it'll ask you if which app you would like to open.
No, because Samsung publishes their ROMs.. They will Leave S-Voice, and in my opinion, it's good that way.
You just need to give Samsung's apps a chance
LG familyguy59
So will the double tap menu be available from within any screen/app? or will I need to be on the home screen first Like in ICS?
Anyone know any way to change the navigation voice from the S Voice voice to the Google voice?

Language and input
In settings go to language and input. Change it from Samsung to Google.

on that note... is that the same way for google maps voice? that thing is kinda scary
Language and input
Here ya go. I changed that and all my voice alerts are from the Google voice. You can adjust the speed as well.
Mine was set to Google by default and I still have the annoying British accent voice (no offense to any British people...she just terrifies me)
I did update to the latest google maps through the play store...but there are some ROMs that have the "younger more energetic" voice even after the update...
do i need to take a different maps.apk?

Thanks for this. I never thought to post and ask about how to change this but I was getting all kinds of crap from my co-workers about the sultry lady in my phone trying to seduce us with her directions. :good:
