[Q] Charging without a cable? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Strange happens to me last time with my mobile.
I had to work in rainy day so i putted my phone in a packet
and found that my mobile started to be wet, pulled out and saw a few drops
in USB area, when came home to charge the mobile phone, plugged in the cable
and by mistake i pulled out the cable but the sign in the notifications showed that the phone still charges. that when the strange begins.
Day after, i tried to connect the mobile to PC and no recognition, but it's charges the phone.
when pulling out, still writen that the phone is still in the charger.
what can be wrong?

Dried drying it out?
if you have a hot water cuboard, put it in there in a container with some raw rice, this should draw any moisture out?

It was a little touching there, it's dry from the same day...

anyone have an idea? it's can be fixed?

it sounds like one of the connections in usb port has been damaged by water.
you may need to replace the usb port.

Water in the USB port.dry it out and if that doesnt work then its been damaged when you plugged it in when it was wet possible causing a short circuit.Service centre.

[Q] I damaged my charging port?

Hey guys, in one of the stupidest, impulsive and least prepared actions I have ever undertaken, I seem to have damaged my charging port. I cleaned the charging port with a pin, and succeeded in cleaning it, however, now my phone won't charge. I have no idea why, as the charger goes in well. My guess is that I scratched some core component, or the like? The only thing is, I would have assumed these parts to be pretty hardy, as they're exposed to everything in our pockets, etc. Has anyone got any information or experience in the are.
I apologize for such a noob question, but any help is appreciated!
P.S When I plug my phone into my computer, a message pops up saying something about over powering or something?

Dont know anything about the overpowering error you got , but my phone was charged with a charger that sat next to a mouldy wall for too long (disgusting!) and the port was filled with black mould. I placed this into my phone and of course buggered my charging port. I managed to fix it by getting rid of as much crap as i could manually, then bought a can of compressed air and blew out the rest, which did the trick and now it works faultlessly again....
Well, you might have damaged the connectors or - if you did that with a metal pin - you might have caused a short circuit.
When you connect it to PC - it's not charging i guess - but does it allow you to transfer files via USB ?
Anyway, try clearing battery status in recovery, using another cable/charger.
If it won't charge from charger and PC i guess you need to take it to service center.
Woah, you guys reply really fast
I cleaned it, and got a tonne of crap out, but that is what messed it up. :|
I am guessing I damaged the connectors, but I would have assumed if the pc could detect it, a much less sophisticated component would be required for charging.. ahh.
I can't charge it, so I guess the service centre is the only option. Damnit.
i think the charging port has damaged so u have to change it

Phone keeps charging after plugin off the charger

so before 2 days my phone was perfectly fine
and now when i charge my phone, it's charging normaly.
and when i plug off the charger from the phone, my phone keeps charging itself.
and i feel like it's draining my battery faster.
is there any solution for it?
Got the same problem since the same day.
Phone rarely able to connect to the PC. Battery indicator keeps blinking (in samsung rom) or showing as if it is charged (in CM9). Phone can't be turn off. Usb keeps disconnecting, making me afraid if something goes wrong when I flash anything with odin PC.
I use speedmod kernel (apollo, actually) and the battery doesn't drain. But still it acts as if it is charged when I turn off the phone.

Had the same problem last summer, I think it's a common fault on the i9100.
Some have been able to fix it by cleaning the usb port, or by gently bending the little piece in there.
That didn't work for me though, had to send it in for repair. They switched the motherboard and usb port.
so my only way to fix it is by sending the phone to repair ?

So you can try cleaning the port on the phone first. Try first with a dry clean toothbrush. If that doesn't work, take out the battery and try cleaning the port with a q-tip and a (little!) bit of isopropyl alcohol. Then let it dry before putting the battery back in. If THAT doesn't work, then you'll need to get the port replaced. You could do it yourself, (I've heard the part costs around $15) or your last option is to send it in for repair.
I wouldn't recommend bending or otherwise moving the little wafer inside the port, however.
I notice that it will continue for a few %, maybe 2-3. It's because the battery gets warn when charging and still continues to until it has cooled down enough. But I don't notice any difference in drain time on mine.

Are you running any custom roms? If you are that might be the problem.

Um... The port you plug the charger or usb cable into? Really the only port on the phone? And clean it the way I already described?

[Q] My S3 is not charging

Like a week ago my S3 9300 was taking longer and longer to charge now it won't charge at all, now is always stuck at 0% if i turn it off it will charge but very very slowly, i don't know if it's the phone or the battery maybe someone here had the same problem and could help me out a little, btw i have it with CM 10.1 thank you
Alejo
Had the same exact problem with my i9300, got it out of warranty repairs yesterday. Was using a custom rom, but the same thing happened when I finally managed to flash it back to stock (had to manually press the microusb-cable as hard as I could into the phone all the time in order to get the phone recognized while Odin was working, was the longest flash ever lol..).
Remember reading about cold solder joints etc before sending it off, so if your phone is out of warranty for some reason you could replace the charging port yourself. Replacement part costs ~5$ (eBay) and if you got the skills it shouldn't be too hard to replace.
EDIT: Actually mine didn't even charge when power off, so I was pretty certain it was a bad solder joint or some other physical problem.. Have you tried cleaning the usb port with pressured air or just blowing into the port? Could be some pins of the usb port blocked with debris. Also check your usb cables, there are those with 5 pins and those with only 4. Saw the difference in charging speed while the thing was still working.

Well actually when i plug the phone into the PC it will recognize it and i can access the files in the SD card and Internal Memory and everything at the moment it's turned off and it's charging.
I have the problem that the phone only want to charge with soms chargers.
I can connect the phone to the original charger or to a pc or any device without problems, the phone will charge.
Even with an old blackberry charger (only 2 wires, no data) and car charger can i charge without any problem!
But when i connect the phone to the htc charger of my old phone, or to an iphone charger i see the phone is connected but it won't charge.
When i open batterymonitor i see that the charger is connected, but the phone still use his battery.
I tried this with all kinds of charders and all kinds of micro usb cables. Then i thaught there was maybe a resistor or chip or something build in some chargers, because i couls only charge with chargers with 2 wire cables.
Then i took a usb extension cable and i disconnected the two data wires so only the + and - 5V cables were left,
but still no success. If anybody knows where the problem is, please let my know
with kind regards! Martijn

[Q] Screen turns "on", but no display

So I took apart my phone, and I think I screwed up somewhere.
When I turn my phone on, I can see that the screen is turning on, but nothing is actually being transmitted. I know that it can turn on cause in a pitch black room, the screen is on, but nothing is displayed- not even the Samsung logo or anything else.
I can wait a little while and plug my phone into computer and it'll show up on the computer, so it's not bricked.
I'm just asking to see if anyone else has experienced this problem.
You probably didn't connect one of the clips correctly. Or, worse, damaged the socket somehow.
For me, I did a screen replacement myself. I chipped a corner of one of the sockets while trying to wiggle the connector in. Screen did not turn on initially, but after I rebooted it couple times, it suddenly started working.

Do you have a picture/diagram that I can look at to see if mine is damaged?
You would have to open it up again and inspect the socket carefully. For me, a tiny piece of plastic broke away from a corner of the socket. It didn't seem like I actually damaged the connector so I just went ahead and tried it anyways and it worked.

[Q] USB charging not working, data connection working

I have found the Xperia Z2 to be an extremely slippery phone and it dropped to the floor quite a few times already, but the last fall seems to have finally damaged it. Now, when I connect it through USB to either a PC or power outlet, it will no longer charge. I can exchange data with my PC, view the external storage etc. just fine, but the charging icon will keep appearing and disappearing irregularly, about once per second. Meanwhile the battery gets drained instead of charged.
I now charge my phone through the magnetic port one the side of the phone, which is working fine. I would like, however, to know if there is a way to repair the USB port of my phone.
Many thanks

Seems like hard to repair. You would need to disassemble the whole device. I'd suggest you send the phone for warranty repair. Just do not mention you let it fall

The whole glass back panel was into pieces. I replaced it, so I'm afraid that is not an option

Look into the Z2 disassembling videos, but I guess you should bring the device into a professional phones repair service.
@MrTheMan I think I know what bricked your USB port. The damage wasn't from the fall, you just connected the Magnetic charging cable upside down... Didn't you?
If you keep tightly in some points, dies it charge then? If not and still charges intermediate then there are two things. Either one of the lines if the port is damaged or the battery is of center. Remove and reconnect. First clean it's contacts with.a brush and pure alcohol. Do the same on the port.
Mine does the opposite, USB is fine(as long as I disconnect at 100% and don't charge with MHL adapter) but magnetic has the issue.

Hi,
I did connect my magnetic charging cable upside down. And my magnetic port is messed up now. It keeps charging and discharging when connected. It doesn't charge from a USB port and i need to plug in the adapter to a wall outlet for it to charge.
Is there anything i can do to fix this?

If I remember correctly there is one diode on the PCB that get's damaged :/
I have the same problem, due to magnetic charger..
Surely this is covered by warranty? I'm still under warranty so I will try to get a replacement.
How could they design it so poorly that it can be damaged like this....

Oh, I search some info. The diode just allow electric current pass one direction only. No wonder my XZ2 keep restart after I pressed shutdown because the diode allow the electric current from battery can pass through in opppsite way.
I don't believe it is a hardware problem. You dropped the phone but the USB port is not likely to be physically damaged by a knock. I had the same problem, on a Z2 provided by my company. I have requested a change, got a new one and in a few days the second handset had the same issue too. Two phones, both new, both never dropped, used with maximum care, both with the same problem. The second one wasn't even charged more than a couple of times before failure. And I had tried it as soon as I had it in my hands, just to be sure it worked, and it did, at first. I connected it to a laptop thru USB port (3.0) and it charged. Then updated apps and system to Lollipop, connected it again and it failed. In a couple of days. I'm sure nothing physical happened, unless my USB port fried it. Notice however, that data connection is working perfectly and everything else I connecrt to that port works as well.
I have some mag chargers too, and I don't believe I've ever connected them upside down. The plug is made in such a way the it does not connect if reversed, having one contact circular shape and the other elliptical.
I checked on the Web and there is a number of Z2 owners complaining for the same issue: there's even a video on Youtube showing this exact behavior. Sony seems to ignore it.
I must admit, however, that I'm unable to explain why a factory reset does not solve the problem. Now I'm trying to flash a stock ROM (mine is branded Telecom Italia) and see what happens.

Did you repaired your device. Please relpy this
Phone 2 years.
1. Charged through the USB port on the network 220 (native charger):
It reaches 81-83% of charge and starts to go crazy: flashing red LED charging and says that is / is not going to charge.
In fact, no charges.
I tried different cords and chargers - so everywhere is going crazy with a 80% interest
2. Charged via USB from the cigarette lighter in your car or the external battery:
It's okay - safely charged up to 100%
3. Charged through the magnetic cable:
It's okay - safely charged up to 100%
These are symptoms of what is dying?
Thank you!
