Phone keeps charging after plugin off the charger - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so before 2 days my phone was perfectly fine
and now when i charge my phone, it's charging normaly.
and when i plug off the charger from the phone, my phone keeps charging itself.
and i feel like it's draining my battery faster.
is there any solution for it?

Got the same problem since the same day.
Phone rarely able to connect to the PC. Battery indicator keeps blinking (in samsung rom) or showing as if it is charged (in CM9). Phone can't be turn off. Usb keeps disconnecting, making me afraid if something goes wrong when I flash anything with odin PC.
I use speedmod kernel (apollo, actually) and the battery doesn't drain. But still it acts as if it is charged when I turn off the phone.

Had the same problem last summer, I think it's a common fault on the i9100.
Some have been able to fix it by cleaning the usb port, or by gently bending the little piece in there.
That didn't work for me though, had to send it in for repair. They switched the motherboard and usb port.

so my only way to fix it is by sending the phone to repair ?

So you can try cleaning the port on the phone first. Try first with a dry clean toothbrush. If that doesn't work, take out the battery and try cleaning the port with a q-tip and a (little!) bit of isopropyl alcohol. Then let it dry before putting the battery back in. If THAT doesn't work, then you'll need to get the port replaced. You could do it yourself, (I've heard the part costs around $15) or your last option is to send it in for repair.
I wouldn't recommend bending or otherwise moving the little wafer inside the port, however.

I notice that it will continue for a few %, maybe 2-3. It's because the battery gets warn when charging and still continues to until it has cooled down enough. But I don't notice any difference in drain time on mine.

how do i clean the port of the phone ?where is that port?

Are you running any custom roms? If you are that might be the problem.

Um... The port you plug the charger or usb cable into? Really the only port on the phone? And clean it the way I already described?

Very weird charging issue with my Samsung Galaxy S2

My Samsung Galaxy S2 has this problem.
A: I doesn't register the charge in the socket unless I wiggle it around or put pressure on a certain area. It's sensitive and it takes me a while to make it 'stick'.
b: It only charges to about 30% and then it stops charging.
I have tried numerous chargers and usb cables and always the same issue. I have replaced the battery and its the same problem.
Any help? I bought this damn thing on ebay a few weeks ago so I don't really know its history. The seller refuses to refund and I've opened a case.
Anyway that will all take a long time.
Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it?

Try Charging the battery externally using a battery charger, and not from inside the phone....I suppose it should get charged 100%...
If not then its battery problem...
If it does get charged then there might be a problem in the port or connection to the battery via inside the phone...get it checked at a samsung customer care...If you have warranty you might get it fixed for free...
I don't think there should be any problem with your kernel etc..
Press Thanx If I helped..
Try cleaning the micro USB port with a toothbrush or something similar
This type of issue is not weird and has been discussed on forum plenty of times.
Clean the battery contacts on battery and pins on device with alcohol (cleaning alcohol). If that doesnt work and you have changed charger/battery then your hardware is faulty so nobody here can help.

GS3 won't charge unless I bend the charger or push really hard

Hi guys,
So far I have used 3 chargers. A Verizon green 10ft long charger, the charger for my Nexus 7, and a Verizon car charger.
Basically when I plug any of these chargers in it will show it is charging for a split second, then it'll go away. So in order for it to charge, I have to push the charger in really hard, push it down, or bend it to the right. If I bend it to the right, when I let go, it stops charging. Sometimes I can get it at the right angle to keep it there, but I come back later and see that it isn't charger. Also if I push it in really hard, bending it to the right stops charging it.
The Verizon car charger has been the best for me (not as bad but I still have to bend it), but I use my nexus 7 charger for it most of the time.
This is super annoying, how it's real hard to get it to start charging and even harder to keep it. None of the pins on my chargers look crooked, nor inside my phone. I don't know if there is a fix for this, I might just take it to Verizon.
Anyone with the same problem or know of a fix out there? Thanks!

I've had that problem to and with my fiancée's s3, I need to push it in quite hard to get it to start charging but my girlfriends s3 I need to do almost the exact same as what you've described bending it pushing it, I think we where on our 5th charger for hers before it just refused to charge anymore it is definitely a problem with the phone we sent hers back and it was fixed under warranty, we were told by T-Mobile that it was a common fault with the s3 but it was repaired and now works perfectly, we have the international models. The only fix is it to send it back unfortunately hope this helps.

This is a Verizon certified phone. I only got it about a month ago. I'm a little scared to get a replacement. I actually had a Rezound before, and I went through 4 malfunctioning Rezounds and weeks of not having a phone before I called up verizon and they offered to switch my Rezound for a certified S3. It's great in all other ways, that's why I'm afraid to replace it with a phone that has problems with using the phone itself.
Okay, what is going on here. I made the cord tight and angled it to get a charge. It was at 42% last night when I started charging. I got up and the red light was still on, but the phone was still at 42%. It seems only angling to the right will it charge normally.
This is so annoying. So it's the charging port on my phone then? Maybe I should get the manufacturers charger, maybe I'm just using chargers not really compatible with my S3? Because my car charger works as soon as I plug it in. I mean if I turn in my car a lot it will stop charging and I will have to readjust the connection, but it's not nearly as bad as the charger I'm using at home.
Get it replaced and done with, mate. It's hardware problem. And not with the charger.

How long did it take for you to receive your phone back? I'm sending my phone to Samsung for repair. Sounds like it's going to take about 2 weeks, which is unfortunate. I just went through that
There is a simple fix!!!
I previously had to post this to a different forum so im posting the solution to this forum.
This issue can be fixed easily, you just have some stuff to fix it with. It's not only the connectors that's dirty, It's also the bottom of the micro usb port, it can easily be blocking the the connector from connecting all the way in. Here's how i fixed mine:
The first thing you'll need is some rubbing alcohol
Some Q-Tips.
The second thing you'll need is a very small sewing needle (go ask your grandma for one )
The third optional thing you'll need is some compressed air WITH a straw thing at the end
First off, remove the battery of the phone and set it somewhere.
Then get your sewing needle and dip it into the rubbing alcohol (helps clean the residue).
Then DELICATELY take the needle and clean ALL residue on the bottom of the port. Do this and make sure ALL residue is gone.
Then take the Q-tip and dip it in the rubbing alcohol.
VERY GENTLY take the Q-Tip and put very little pressure against the charging port.
Take the needle and go for a second try for the residue and let it air dry, OR get the compressed air and CAREFULLY blow out the rubbing alcohol and dust out of the charging port.
Put the battery when dry and turn on phone.
This will effectively clean the charging port AND the bottom of the port.
This has probably an 80% chance of working. It worked for me!
Plug it in and see if that works!
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU MESS UP AND SCREW UP YOUR PHONE!!!!!
I hope this helped everybody

Galaxy S4 won't charge.

Help! My Samsung Galaxy S4 won't charge or connect to a computer. I've tried different chargers, cables, plug in locations, car, 110, computer. There is no dirt. Connection is clean. I have a spare battery and both of them will charge on the battery charger. I have tried backed up roms. I have done a factory reset.
All of this and nothing helped. Am willing to try anything. Verizon is going to send me a refurb.
Help please.

Is there any indication of a connection being made? If not, you should just wait for the refurb. If you have rooted, I really doubt Verizon will honor the warranty on the broken phone. I wish you the best.

sounds like contacts are on the phone side are damaged or the micro usb port is damaged.
Have you plugged into to a pc just to see if it can "see" the device and connect?
You stated it cannot connect to a pc, so i would suspect you have a bad micro usb port.
if you can connect, its not the port, and try taking an eraser and gently swabbing the contacts on the phone side.
also, make sure when you insert the battery there is an actual contact established. sometimes when pulling/pushing the battery in and out, those contacts sink further into the device and finally when you insert a batter the contact is very poor. you may need a tool or tweezer to just VERY, VERY GENTLY raise the contacts if they sunk in to far......but be careful not to pull too hard/much they can snap and you will probably void any warranty......

I am having the exact same problem. I have replaced the microUSB charging port on the phone and it still doesnt charge with the new port. I'm not sure what is going on. NEED HELP BIG TIME!!!
I'm having the same problem as well. It has been like that for bout a month or so now. I googled it and it seems to be a problem with the s3's and s4's. I'm not so worried about it as I have a spare battery charger and I have the wireless charging receiver on my s4 and it charges my phone just fine.
I had this exact problem I believe...tried several different chargers...everthing. Try turning the phone off and see if it takes a charge. When mine was off it would show a gray battery and vibrate every 5-10 seconds. I figured it was an issue with the charging/usb port but all of the sudden my phone started charging normally and is visible by a computer. Lasted for about 4 days and have been in the clear for about 3 days now. No clue what went wrong or why, but try what I mentioned above by charging with phone off for a half hour or so and see if it has charged at all. If you need a new USB port, not all GS4's have the same port, so you must get a verizon specific one (ebay). usually run about $20..or $65 installed at a phone fixing center. I didnt want to lose MDK, so I was prepared to just charge externally, but ended up not having to...yet
It happened to me also. I had some intermittent luck with blowing out the port with air from my air compressor. But in the end it just stopped working and Verizon sent me a refurbished one.
I Also have this problem!

Have you tried powering down your phone and seeing if that gray battery comes up and you get the vibrations (while plugged into charger)? You may need a new port, but since your under warranty, you could get a replacement unless you want to charge externally
S4 problem after update to 4.3
Hy,
I have a similar problem with my S4 (i9505), won't indicate if it is charging or connect to a computer, but while the charger is conected to S4, the battery level is increasing. When the battery is fully charged S4 is SHUTING DOWN!!!! And it wont start by pressing ON/OFF button, it will only start after I press Vol Down+Power, after goes to Download Mode and press Vol Down .
Tryed in many ways to fix:
- restore-
- hard reset
- changed te battery and charger
-i\ve changed even the usb port (flex cable) and =no results...
All problem started after update to 4.3.... and it is not an isolated case too many people complains about this 'awesome smartphone' with 'awesome issues' .
So, if anyone have any ideea how to solve this issues....
{Sorry for my bad english}
Had the same problem...lasted for about a day, I had to take a dry q-tip and clean the charger and the port where the phone charges and was able to get it working again. If you are rooted and are having issues go to amazon or ebay and get a wireless charger and it should take care of your problems as well

Ok....wireless charger...but what about syncing with the PC?
Now I have JB 4.3 , for a custom ROM I need to use usb cable to connect to PC, rigth?.
For me it is annoying, because I do not know for sure if this is caused by updatind to 4.3 or is a harware problem.
My wife's phone had this issue last night and this morning; charger or computer, it wouldn't charge. I turned it off, took out the battery, SIM and uSD card and put them all back in. After that it started charging again. I don't know if this will solve the problem long term, but so far it seems to have done the trick...

Lucky you...I did more than that, but no result in my case. I found on ''community.verizonwireless'' many more similar cases where ''customers support'' tried to avoid giving the answers for a real solution.
Well, our luck didn't hold. My wife's S4 wouldn't charge again last night. I tried another Samsung charger and a different cable but it wouldn't work either. When we left the house she tried it on the car charger and it worked great. Trying various other chargers we found that a kindle charger wouldn't work, but other third party chargers would. Even her PC USB port seems to work and she doesn't have the drivers loaded. For now she replaced the Samsung charger and cable that came with her phone for one that came as part of an accessory pack and it's happy again.
I have no idea what's going on with the thing. I asked one of the guys at the Samsung booth in Bestbuy and all he had to offer was reflashing the ROM or un-rooting it and doing a warranty exchange...

Can you check, please, if your new data cable has 4 or 5 pins(look to the side that connects to your phone )?
My first s4 done this. So I ended up with a replacement mdk phone after I figured out if you bend the lil piece in the charging port of your phone (not too much BTW) the charger will slide into the port as it's meant to.
Sorry I can't remember the tech term for that lil pin inside the charging port.

I think the S4 is compatible with QI compliant wireless chargers. Amazon has some that are only $20... might be worth the purchase.... hell if I didn't have this tank of a case on I would buy it.

I think this issue it is not hw problem because, look what I did today:

And now it behaves even stranger:
S4 is ON and wall charger is conected, (LED IT IS OFF but BATTERY IS BLINKING and is charging ) after battery level go up to 100% and disconect the charger, the LED STARTS TO LIGHT GREEN!!!!
So, now shows that is charging when charger is NOT connected?

[Q] USB charging not working, data connection working

I have found the Xperia Z2 to be an extremely slippery phone and it dropped to the floor quite a few times already, but the last fall seems to have finally damaged it. Now, when I connect it through USB to either a PC or power outlet, it will no longer charge. I can exchange data with my PC, view the external storage etc. just fine, but the charging icon will keep appearing and disappearing irregularly, about once per second. Meanwhile the battery gets drained instead of charged.
I now charge my phone through the magnetic port one the side of the phone, which is working fine. I would like, however, to know if there is a way to repair the USB port of my phone.
Many thanks

Seems like hard to repair. You would need to disassemble the whole device. I'd suggest you send the phone for warranty repair. Just do not mention you let it fall

Look into the Z2 disassembling videos, but I guess you should bring the device into a professional phones repair service.
@MrTheMan I think I know what bricked your USB port. The damage wasn't from the fall, you just connected the Magnetic charging cable upside down... Didn't you?
If you keep tightly in some points, dies it charge then? If not and still charges intermediate then there are two things. Either one of the lines if the port is damaged or the battery is of center. Remove and reconnect. First clean it's contacts with.a brush and pure alcohol. Do the same on the port.
Mine does the opposite, USB is fine(as long as I disconnect at 100% and don't charge with MHL adapter) but magnetic has the issue.

If I remember correctly there is one diode on the PCB that get's damaged :/
I have the same problem, due to magnetic charger..
Surely this is covered by warranty? I'm still under warranty so I will try to get a replacement.
How could they design it so poorly that it can be damaged like this....

Oh, I search some info. The diode just allow electric current pass one direction only. No wonder my XZ2 keep restart after I pressed shutdown because the diode allow the electric current from battery can pass through in opppsite way.
I don't believe it is a hardware problem. You dropped the phone but the USB port is not likely to be physically damaged by a knock. I had the same problem, on a Z2 provided by my company. I have requested a change, got a new one and in a few days the second handset had the same issue too. Two phones, both new, both never dropped, used with maximum care, both with the same problem. The second one wasn't even charged more than a couple of times before failure. And I had tried it as soon as I had it in my hands, just to be sure it worked, and it did, at first. I connected it to a laptop thru USB port (3.0) and it charged. Then updated apps and system to Lollipop, connected it again and it failed. In a couple of days. I'm sure nothing physical happened, unless my USB port fried it. Notice however, that data connection is working perfectly and everything else I connecrt to that port works as well.
I have some mag chargers too, and I don't believe I've ever connected them upside down. The plug is made in such a way the it does not connect if reversed, having one contact circular shape and the other elliptical.
I checked on the Web and there is a number of Z2 owners complaining for the same issue: there's even a video on Youtube showing this exact behavior. Sony seems to ignore it.
I must admit, however, that I'm unable to explain why a factory reset does not solve the problem. Now I'm trying to flash a stock ROM (mine is branded Telecom Italia) and see what happens.

Hi, I have a Xperia Z2. My phone have the same problem after my sister put the magnetic charger upside down. My phone right now can only charge with the mangetic charger. My phone warranty already expired. I want to know is it really the usb port bricked? @MrTheMan, Have you repair your phone?

Did you repaired your device. Please relpy this
Phone 2 years.
1. Charged through the USB port on the network 220 (native charger):
It reaches 81-83% of charge and starts to go crazy: flashing red LED charging and says that is / is not going to charge.
In fact, no charges.
I tried different cords and chargers - so everywhere is going crazy with a 80% interest
2. Charged via USB from the cigarette lighter in your car or the external battery:
It's okay - safely charged up to 100%
3. Charged through the magnetic cable:
It's okay - safely charged up to 100%
These are symptoms of what is dying?
Thank you!

Moisture Sensor issue S9 plus

It has been an year since I am facing the issue of moisture detected. There is no moisture inside the port. This issue occurred last year and is still here. The only temporary solution I found was to turn off device and plug the charge in 3 to 4 time and it starts charging its an temporary fix and I have to turn device off each time. Also due to this issue the device sometimes stop fast charging. I wanted to ask that will installing a custom rom (stock android instead of samsung rom) will fix issue (will this stop the moisture issue). Or is there any other way to fix it using root or without root. The guides on net about cleaning port or changing charger didnt work.

I am using orignal charger & cable also tried a different charger and cable. Its been an year since it started. For me I think the sensor is faulty. Also the charging changes to cable charging after connecting charger , same with all the chargers I tried.
Make sure the port is spotless; debris in the jack port can cause this. A toothbrush and a little anhydrous isopropyl alcohol can be used to gently clean it. Allow to dry completely.
Then clear the system cache.
Maybe a charger port PCB failure, a guess.

Hardware. Likely a mobo failure.
Check for cracked solder joints in the power section.

No idea. So you can flash it? WTF?
That means most of the mobo if not all is working.
No beep when you connect charger?
Display failure?
Port pcb failure? This little bugger can do some bizarre things on the 10+ if it fails or is the wrong one, so I learned.
Unfortunately I have no clue how to decisively troubleshoot this.
Hopefully someone here does.
My problem is solve no moisture deduct i change cable and factor reset now problem not there. When this proble happened my phone not charge faster charge sometimes so i use stock cable then fast charging show issue withe the cable now 1month there is no problem try and tell me guys.

For me factory resetting or changing charger and cable didn't worked. Still getting moisture detected but if i connect it when powered off after 2 or 3 tries it starts cable charging. But after unplugging charger and reconnecting after a little time it again shows the error.

Is it possible the phone has water internally?
Get some anhydrous isopropyl and carefully clean the c port contacts. An old toothbrush works if the bristles are long enough.
Allow to completely dry.
It may have a bad c port pcb or mobo if this persists... a guess on my part.

I also think hardware is faulty cause it been an year since it started. I was wondering if there is a way to disable this sensor through root ?

If you have root access.
There are members here that know the files you're looking for.
I'm wondering if replacing the charging port PCB would fix this. It's possible that corrosion from previous moisture exposure caused corrosion that left conductive pathways that are causing the error. Or the PCB failed.
These boards tend to be cheap, just get the right version for your variant. If the battery needs replacing then be a good time.
