Hello all. I just purchased the Rezound yesterday and am coming from the Thunderbolt. I have been very impressed so far, but I have noticed a small issue. I live in Arizona and have noticed that my phone keeps reverting to Pacific time. I know that it is picking up my location right where I live. If I reboot the phone, it comes up with the right time, but after a couple of hours, it reverts back to Pacific time (1 hour earlier that Arizona time). I know that I can set the time manually, but I like having the setting for getting the time automatically from the network because it updates when I travel. I did not have this issue with the Thunderbolt. Anyone else had this issue? Thanks.
Mine does the same thing. I notice when I run speed test that it pulls from servers in commuting distance from Chicago. People who live there go by central time even though Indiana is eastern. This might be the reason. I live 30 minutes from the line, and 2 hours from Chicago.

Here, the latest one I did, I'm in south bend by notre lame right now, merillville is 1:15 away in central time.

Thanks for the response. That is interesting. I hadn't even thought about something like that causing it. I did just run speed test to see and it did not change the time for me. I will keep an eye on it though, to see if that is the cause.
Edit: I just went in and looked at my history for Speedtest and found that my most recent test went to somewhere else in Arizona, but the one I did this morning went to Washington State...I guess this is what is causing it. Thanks so much for the catch. I guess I need to be careful running Speedtest from now on.
I too live in Arizona and had that issue the past few days. I had my Dinc before this and it was doing the same thing over last weekend.

No no, didn't mean Speed Test is doing it, I mean the servers your phone is routing through when connecting to the towers are pulling/pushing from another time zone. Whatever DNS server the phone is connecting to get it's time update on 4G is pulling from the West for both of us. When I am on 3G I don't have this issue, that is why I believe this is the reason. I have my time set manually because of it, I noticed it in the Verizon store when the rep was puzzled when I asked him what time it was, lol.

Maybe an HTC issue then? My buddy lives down the road from me has a Bionic, I will ask him if he has this issue on 4G.

I got ya...sorry I misunderstood. I guess I just don't understand why it works ok for a while, then changes. Once it changes, I have not seen it change back. It almost screwed me this morning because the time went back an hour overnight so my alarm did not go off when it should have. Thankfully, my Wife was already up. I did not have these issues with the Thunderbolt and it runs on 4G. My Rezound has also only been on 4G or Wifi when the issue comes up.
We switched from daylight savings time here in Chicago and Indiana doesn't use it from memory so that could be a problem. Maybe that is the same issue in Arizona. I'd look into that.

No, Indiana joined the bandwagon (thanks liberals) about 5 years ago. But, The Commuter Area, Gary/Michigan City/Valpo/Merrillville/East Chicago, basically everything West of Saint Joe County and the end of South Bend is Central Time, the rest of the state is Eastern.

+1 I have to set my phone to not use network time. I'm in Elkhart.

Haha, I was born there. My last name (Lemacks) look familiar? My dad owned Lemacks Construction on Lincolnway across from the railyard for 25 years.
Anyways, your phone does the same thing in Elkhart? When you run Speed Test what server does it say is hosting it? I am surprised you aren't pulling KZoo or Ft. Wayne.

Woke up this morning to see a message stating my phone updated on its own. Scared me because I'm rooted and everything. I didn't notice any changes though. I can't remember the exact message but it did say service update. Did a speed test on 3g and found 1mbps down. I used to get 400k.
I'm just south of Chicago btw.
I got the same update, anyone know what its for?
Woke up this morning to the same message about a service update. Whatever they did is very nice. Download and upload speeds seem to both be much improved but whats even more impressive is the ping time which is vastly improved. I don't think I've ever seen ping times that fast on 3G. As you can see in my sig even 4G ping times have been much slower.

I saw something similar last night around 10:30 PM EST. I clicked "cancel" or whatever as soon as I saw it pop up, but I think I was too late. I had been running CM for several weeks, but just flashed a Synergy ROM to have something different a day or so ago. Just my luck that they would send out a non-optional update during a time when I'm on a Sense ROM. I suspect an AOSP ROM wouldn't have been affected. Anyway, I haven't noticed any significant changes in speed, but have yet to really test it. I wonder if this is part of the whole Network Vision thing?
Got the same service message as well (Chicago area phone currently in Sioux Falls - affiliate network Swiftel)
Same here - service update in B'more.
sub100ms ping and 1.3mbps up/ 800kbps down ... ON 3G!!!
WOW...
I'm skeptical/cynical though - where is the bitter that comes with the sweet?
Also, sorry for sort of a double post if anyone plans to complain. I was getting ready for work when I did this and didn't even look at other posts.
Now that that's out of the way... I kinda kept an eye on my service on my way to work, which is a 50 minute drive through the country roads, but still close enough to the city that i'm not in the boonies. Was streaming Pandora to get a feel for it, but as soon as I got a mile or 2 away from home, service dropped to 1x, but full bars. It stayed that way until I got to work... maybe they're still working on things here.
Got the update here. Same old garbage 100k to 300k speeds south of Tampa. If anything, my signal strength seems worse. Used to have 1 bar sometimes blinking the second. Now I have zero sometimes blinking the first.

I got the "...service updated" Message last night around 10:30 CST (KC/Central Mo area). PRL is the same version as before. I have NEVER seen a dialogue message like this before, ever, with sprint. I am on a rooted custom ROM as well. SO much for thinking we have "total" control of our devices.
3G speed tests today show consistently faster downstream. I'll continue testing.

Faster in San Antonio
My Evo 3d is hitting over 2 MB with pings under 100. My Evo 4g is around 1 MB with varying pings. I am running MikG 2.59 on the Evo 4g. The service update looks like they enhanced the 3g speeds for the Evo 3d IMO.

Well, I am begrudgingly happy for you. LOL
Actually, I guess that the location is moot since I haven't received the update.
I have also done the 3g speed tweak from the old Evo 4g days. Both my 4g and 3d have it. Ive been watching the Evo 4g forum to see if any1 has gotten the service update.
Got the forced update in Sacramento this morning. My 3G signal is much improved in my office. 100ms ping, 1.32Mbps down, .37mbps up. Before I could hardly connect at all.
So I'm thinking something must have changed...
Oh, 4g still sucks though.
MASSIVE improvement here:
before always >300ms and never 1mbps down (generally 300-600) or 300kbps up...
NOW
all day on different towers <80ms; almost 2mbps down; and approaching 1mbps up
Near Baltimore/Ellicott City
I don't see any chatter on the evo og, evo shift, epic 4g, ... re the update.
BUT - It does seem some evo3ds are unaffected - still 300ms pings and horrible down speeds.

I'm not sure if anyone here lives in the Jacksonville, FL area or not.
I live in Orange Park and have been getting horrible service over the past week or so. Yesterday evening though, my signal went to 5 bars and the LTE icon came on.
I couldn't believe it. I thought there was something wrong with the Objection ICS ROM I had just flashed, so I ran my trusty Speed Test app and, sure enough, 20 Mbps down!
I almost swallowed my shoe laces! LOL
Today, however, no LTE and back to 1 bar at the most. Hopefully this wasn't a dream.
Anybody else see this or was it all a very lifeline dream?
hi I live in atlantic beach florida, I was getting lte last night also. I only did 1 speed test but I got 14 down and close to 2 up. My hspa here is not very good either. I heard from an at&t representative that they are waiting for the baby hawks to leave their nests in the towers in the Jacksonville area before they will be able to get lte in full swing

Here are some additional results from KC. 13Mbps is the best result to date. Sprint seems to be testing/tweaking as the results have fluctuated from 0Mbps (connected with a strong signal but no data would move) to 11Mbps with 8-9 being typical.
My 3g has had a tremendous boost in some places. I historically average 250kbps, but have been seeing as high as 1.6Mbps (that would be a 6x improvement in performance). I assume this is also the result the Network Vision upgrades.
I only started seeing 4g and improved 3g after an involuntary service update was pushed to my phone. When it was done, I couldn't see any changes to PRL, profile, etc so I don't know exactly what it changed. The service update happended around midnight and the next morning I started to notice the 4g icon. I probably wouldn't have known about the service update if I didn't happen to be using my phone at that moment. Did this happen to you?
I am praying that we get at least above 10Mbps on an average when LTE is turned on everywhere else.
Loved the OG EVO when it was first released but I saw wimax speeds drop more and more as more subscribers came on board.

I was at 75th and Main in the Waldo area when I ran into this.
I was near K-7 and K-10. On the S4GRU site, another person reported getting an LTE signal at 135th & Blackbob.
I can confirm the 135th & Blackbob ... but that was back on launch day. I haven't been back since. Also, my speeds weren't comparable to others' LTE speeds. Is there some LTE air-rave in the Sprint corporate store at 135th and Blackbob? That seemed to be where my signal was centered at the time.
Few weeks back I saw the 4g icon down off 151st in Olathe.
Couldn't run a speedtest, the connection was in and out so much. Have been back since, and no longer get the 4g signal.
I'm over on the Missouri side. Seen intermittent Lte for the past few days all around town. 3g speeds jumped for me since a week ago. Was averaging 20-35kbs now at 1.5-3Mbs on average.

That's great, Blue Springs is my home town. I'm living by BassPro, kind of the same thing here, I didn't realize it till right before it cut out. Between my girlfriend and I, we've picked it up all over Independence. She had it for a couple hours by Arrowhead stadium. Only in the past couple days and definitely random and intermittent.

Down by Power and Light district had it up a few times right after we got our phones on release day. Haven't seen it there since, I bet its going to be functional on the fifteenth though. Downtown, anywhere near the 435 loop and near most all major highways should be covered as well.
That's all speculation of course, based solely on the few places I have seen it and past experience.
They seem to be following the same pattern as they did when they rolled out wimax. Locally at least.

Indeed getting better although this phone has a much better 3G radio in my opinion vs the 3D. My 3D never came even close to 2+. Granted this test was at 4 in the morning but still. I actually beat out a family members verizon phone we tested on the 4th 3G of course. Even if I could get 1+ down without any drops in connection I would be pretty happy. Things are getting better still can't wait for LTE.
Very impressive. Fast 3G speeds will help us keep patient as we await 4G LTE.:good:
So since everyone else has started their threads on LTE in their area I decided to start my own on why I cannot get any what so ever. I am truly disappointed as j waited for July 15 just like everyone else yet failed to receive any 4G. I have updated my prl my profile rebooted my phone even hard reset it all to no avail. I've been trying since Sunday and have only connected to LTE briefly twice. Once in the medical center and once by my house on the NW side of town, near West Rd. & Queenston. Both times were standing outside and I had to update profile in order to get the signal. I tried a speed test and was getting ~2.4 mbps down before losing the signal.
I'm not impressed. Hopefully it'll get better soon...
Nothing in Kingwood either. According to S4GRU http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/212-network-visionlte-deployment-running-list/ Houston is only 14% complete. Pretty weak launch numbers. If you are a contributor to the site you can see where the live towers are.

yeah, being a sponsor at s4gru.com, it seems that the current coverage is VERY thin..should be much better in a couple of weeks when sprint accepts more towers from the vendor.
There is LTE in Houston, but it is very very spotty. I get it outside of my work building, but nowhere near my home in Montrose, nor in the Medical Center. I drove from Bellaire to Westheimer and Fountain View with not one 4G signal along the way. WTF?! Sprint is dropping the ball big time.

I caught 4G at the end of kingwood drive near riverwood on 7/15. Measured about 8/3.
Edit: OP, seriously, just chill. They turned on *some* towers on 7/15, but they're nowhere near done. Estimated 100% completion for houston is february 2013. Don't get all pouty about a brand-new service that you haven't been able to use yet. Very, VERY few of us have stable LTE connections.

The maps still showed "coming soon" last I checked. The media had kind of run wild with the limited soft launch information Sprint provided...has left consumer expectations very high. I am sure Sprint wants it up and running just as quickly as the customers do.

vendors... do remember there are three. From what I have "heard" there are also a number of towers ready to go, just waiting on one key element
I second that...give it a few weeks and even beyond that...it is going to continue to get better from here..
The maps still showed "coming soon" last I checked. The media had kind of run wild with the limited soft launch information Sprint provided...has left consumer expectations very high. I am sure Sprint wants it up and running just as quickly as the customers do.

No, vendor. There are three vendors, but only one in the Houston market. The vendors dont seem to share markets.
I do get where u are coming from. And Robert has a point as well. But from what everyone is going through I really don't blame them for being a bit frustrated. This isn't even a decent launch. From what I hear no one is getting constant lte. If this was a month ago then it would be understandable but not for a hyped up nationwide launch.

I've been calling every day, every day they tell me no data outages in my area. Have another Sprint user in my building getting same speeds. I've resorted to installing a 3G roaming PRL because they simple won't do anything about it. Before 9/4 the data was fine, slow at times, but I could at least stream Pandora, etc...

Sorry that's so hard to see... but it's less than 100kbps download on almost ALL of them... It's slower than 56k modem most of the time. I have 3G symbol with 4/6 bars and never had bad data like this in the location before 9/4/2012.
Well you could hold your breath or move to city with lte... Jk but yeah I feel ya on the slow data.

Ever heard of "Sprint Vision"? Maybe its happening in your area now.
via EVO.
This is usually what happens when you contact Sprint for issues:
A Speedtest screenshot would've done this justice .vs the off centered text.

Is it common that when the roll out vision data speeds go to crap before they get better? It's funny as it only seems to be in this 2 mile range around my work. By my house, I'm getting 3G speeds above 1400kbps (which I've never got before). I've told Sprint that, told them that I've updated my profile, basically told them everything and that I just want them to tell an engineer despite what their system shows, that their is slow data in this address range... Still nothing.
Guess I'll just get my contract terminated for roaming...

A speedtest is ONE run. This is a speedtest export of MANY runs.

In the Speedtest Application, just hit the "RESULTS" tab below & it'll give you every run, (date + time, download, upload & ping)
I'm well aware of that, but I wanted more results than that displays, so I exported to CSV. I've fixed the first post so it was better formatting.

I have read that speeds can be affected during the switch over. In my personal experience, it also depends on geographic location. I live in Lake Worth FL, I get 2mb down and almost 900kb up from my house on 3g. Now, I work in North Miami Beach, I'm lucky if I get 100kb down and 3 kb up down here, even on 5 bars. This is even before the LTE rollout. Just because you have a good signal, doesn't mean your data will be fast. I think some areas may be over subscribed, they just don't have the bandwidth available for all their devices in some areas. Hopefully this will get better as they rollout LTE in my area.
If they are upgrading to vision it would be more likely that your speeds would fluctuate rather then stay at a constant low. They may be repairing towers in that area and pushing the load onto remaining towers. That essentially cripples available bandwidth. Had to put up with a similar issue for almost 3 straight months. They should tell you if there are any repairs or improvements being done. Have you tried having your call escalated?

+1 on this. That was going to be my recommendation as well.
CR will probably credit you which looks like you are entitled with the crappy service. And yes, data gets worse during NV upgrades, especially when they are working on the backhaul to the towers. It gets worse before it gets better then you will know its almost time to light up LTE. in short, nothing much more you can do other than leave Sprint but I'm thinking it will be regretted in the end.

When you say respond what exactly are you wanting them to do?

Uh, fix it. No one should have data this slow consistently. Every single second. I understand periods of slowness, but this is absurd.
And, it looks like they fixed it last night... Back to normal 400-600kbps.
I've had data that slow at home for close to 15 months, all I got was an Airave (sounds like a motto on a t-shirt).

lol there are places that have had data that slow for 2+ years now with no fixes from sprint.
Get an Airave!, I just moved to a remote area of Hawaii, no data and 1bar at best. Two days after calling for an airave I recieved it. Now 5bars and full 3g. Best part is its free!
