[Q] Internal/External SDcards switched? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I am a new android user, formerly an iphone user. Not afraid to admit, while I love the phone, android confuses the hell out of me, but I'm getting used to it.
I have an i777 (obviously) and I'm running the entropy kernel and unnamed rom.
I've noticed that my internal and external SD cards seem to be switched.
Example; when I went into recovery mode to flash the ROM, i actually had to search under the "internal" sdcard to find the file.
I put the ROM onto the SD via a card reader, so I know I didn't put it on the wrong card. My brother is a longtime android user, and is also baffled by this.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Entropy512's daily driver kernel released 11/13 includes ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7, pulled from CM7. Added because it supports backup and restore to external sd card, it also seems to reverse internal and external sd cards as a side effect. See Entropy's post here.

[Q] After flashing CM7 - SD Card inaccessible

[email protected]!
Today I decided to flash CM7 onto my SGS2. I had the Stock Samsung 2.3.4 Rom with CF-Root Kernel on it. After flashing through CWM I got stuck at the boot logo, but I was able to re-flash it properly through CWM. But now, I can't access the inserted 8GB SD Card (except for Root explorer). So I reflashed CM7, but that didn't solve the SD Card problem. I asked Google what to do, but most of the solutions posted in forums etc. are for other devices (e.g. HTC Devices). I already picked up some key words like "emmc" or something like that, but I don't know if this has something to do with this problem. I am experienced with flashing (Galaxy 3 i5800, Galaxy S i9000) and it's possible dangers, but I've never encountered something similiar to this problem.
So, is there a possibility to fix things back to normal? I can access the internal and external SD card with my PC/Laptop and Root Explorer, and all the Files are still there and neither seem to be damaged nor corrupted.
Yours, BlackWire
Edit: I tried the following Cyanogenmod 7 External Sd Card problem, but still I can't access the SD Card with the OI File Manager (i don't know what it's called in english) or other apps.
Edit2: I can't even flash another ROM through CWM, as I can't access the external SD Card!

CWM Recovery and External SD card... still no go

Hi all,
I've been rooting Android phones (mostly Samsung) and installing CWM etc for as long as one has been able to. This is the first time I've had any major issues.
Issue being, no matter which CWM I install that states it supports external SD on i9300, I still can't install from zip on ext sd, or backup too it, or mount it!!!
Everyone else seems to be able to fine, but for some reason for me, following the same instructions step by step (tripple checked just to be sure) I cannot.
Now I did initially root the device relatively early on in the development stages for it, and installed a criskello rom (v6) about a month ago. Other than that, I've not played around with anything at all. Today I decided I'd try to install a new rom which I'd saved on the device to the external SD. But no, the CWM I had (6.0.1.0 I think) couldn't read ext sd.
Thus, I installed CWM 6.0.1.2 via Odin (following instructions found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719744 )
But apparently for some crappy reason I have to be the odd one out, for whom it refuses to work!
Now, just to be sure, i've tried multiple SD cards, all just basic fat format, even reformated them all on the device itself. But nope, it just refuses to work for me!!!
Anyone got any suggestions or am I just doomed to internal memory only?
I'd REALLY like to be able to backup my device before trying new roms
This problem nevf happened to me. I can restore any backup ive saved.
Maybe its a crisckeloRom related problem.

CWM 6 and onwards is known to not play well with external SD's, despite what they say, since the layout is a little bit different in Samsung phones. Try flashing Chainfire's CF-root package, which will provide you with root (of course) and CWM 5, which works well with external SD's. You have my guarantee.
BUT! If your SD card is somehow damaged, nothing will read it properly. Make sure it actually works, and that is has a format your phone understands:
32 GB and up, and running stock Samsung = exFAT
32 GB and up, and running an AOSP ROM = FAT32
Anything less than 32GB = FAT32

Hey,
I have the same issue as fr0dzy. I'm ran Chainfire's CF-root package with CWM 5.5.0.4 and i can't use my ext-sdcard in recovery (to install zips + nandroid backup/restore). My ext is a 64gb card formatted to FAT32 but i can use it when i boot my rom.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks.

I'm on a SGS2 Epic4g Touch- same issue. Rooting it everything runs fine, after installing CWM Agat Recovery through mobile Odin I lose access to all apps on Ext SD, something is definitely not playing right with the card. Have you found a work around?

This is my first time rooting and running CWM--- is this issue with phones that have both an Ext SD and a internal MMC partition labeled SD? Thanks for any help, guys!
Solved for me!

This last piece of text solved my problem, thank you! I formatted my 2 GB card as FAT32 and installed a custom ROM (4.1.2 Stock) to recover from a broken Ubuntu Touch ROM.
It was a relief!

[Q] Internal SD card appears to have died

Hi All
I have searched the forums for an answer to this, to no avail. Its not an easy problem to search, but apologies if this has been previously discussed..
After some years of owning and flashing various android phones I have suddenly come completely unstuck. I am not sure what has happened, but I suspect that my internal storage has died. No matter what Rom I load (including returning to stock flashed via Odin) I cannot see the phone's internal storage (i.e. the memory that used to appear as "internal USB" or similar). Instead, the "SD card" is being emulated under the folder "0" in the phone's main storage... I am unsure what is happening here.
This happened after flashing the latest version of Omega Rom (v44). Everything went completely fine as usual, I have no idea why this happened. When I rebooted the Rom had installed but internal storage was missing as described above. For some reason the AOKP elements of the Rom are not present, but the system does seem to work.
I have inserted an external SD card to see if the phone would just use that. No effect. It still appears to be "emulating" the external SD card.
I am not sure where to go from here. I can accept that my internal storage is dead. However, as described above inserting an external SD card still doesn't seem to allow the phone to work normally. It is still trying to emulate the SD card in the phone memory, even on a stock rom. On custom roms this seems to stop the AOKP element from working and I end up with some kind of half way house of custom rom and stock Samsung stuff... its bizarre!
Any help or even just thoughts as to what is going on here greatly appreciated.
I remember that in CM roms there is an issue with the 0 folder thing, but not familiar with it. Maybe someone with more experience could recommend you some action steps.
In case you could always try a full wipe (mega wipe) as it includes your sd card (internal) and leaves nothing on the phone. This will enable you to start from scratch (have a flashable rom on your external SD though).

[Q] I formatted my sdcard-HELP

I was was running JellyBam and had it all tricked out but the email was acting wanky and the battery insisted it was always being charged. Neither of these were issues when it was a fresh install. I did a backup to my external sdcard and proceeded to format the sdcard since I had two ROMs installed on it and JellyBam doesn't seem to play nice with Siyah.
Much to my surprise it formatted both sdcards. I have been able to install a copy of Siyah kernel onto the internal sdcard. But all of the zip files I was counting on using are gone. How can I get a ROM installed so I can begin recovery? Thanks

Just put the SD card in your computer and copy over that way, then boot into recovery and install like normal. Should have no problems.

ALWAYS a good idea to physically remove your external SD card and then format your internal SD card. Then turn off and put the external card back in.
In this case if you absolutely had vital data on your external card and haven't copied or reformatted it since the mess happened, I suggest removing the external sd, put it in an SD adaptor in your computer and download a data recovery program. It will scan it although your computer might say it is raw/do you wanna format or something like that, and find shreds of files left on it.
Good luck

[Q] May Day! My Gnote is developing Alzheimers

I must have screwed up something but I can't figure out what or how. I've been flashing the CM10.1 nightlies and everything was great until yesterday. Goo Manager told me there updates for both the rom (08/15) and gapps (08/12). I downloaded and dirty flashed both. The first sign of trouble was that every time I needed to use an app requiring root I'd get the "The SU binary is outdated" error. There are a few dozen recommended fixes all over the net and I tried most of them. I finally did something (I'm not sure what) that apparently fixed that problem; probably upgrading to TWRP 2.6.0.1 perhaps. At any rate, that seemed to fix the first error but I don't think my GNote sees all the memory that's installed. Now, when I boot into TWRP recovery it no longer sees the external 64GB SanDisk SD card; just 10652MB (emmc). I surmise that 10652MB emmc is the internal virtual 16GB partition, but shouldn't it be larger than 10652MB? If this is a stupid question I apologize. I should be able to do the conversion but my brain is fried. Also, how can I get TWRP to see the external SanDisk again? When I look at the Storage app in Settings I see: 1.) 1.97GB of Internal Storage, which I believe is correct; 2.) Internal Storage 10.83GB, which must be the virtual SD card and seems light to me; and 3.) 59.46GB SD Card (SanDisk), which I know is correct.
Sorry for such a convoluted problem statement.
To summarize:
1. Should my Gnote's virtual 16GB card be larger than 10652MB?
2. How do I get TWRP to see my external 64GB SanDisk SD Card?
I'm going to bed now, maybe that will help me see the problem in the morning.
