My phone's not charging!!
It had 0% battery so it turned off. So I plug it into dock and it won't charge. I get a message saying:
'Modem Did Not Power Up (0)
Starting RSD Protocol support'
'Battery is too low to flash'
I then put it into my mains to charge and I get the same message!!
It's worth noting that I can still get into CWM and flash stuff. I tried to reflash ROM but no effect. I think my battery may have been miscalibrated so I have a bit of juice actually left.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Anything posted will be highly appreciated.
Plug it into the wall charger and walk away for a bit. I know its unnerving, but posting your problem in multiple threads won't get it fixed any faster.

Sorry for the multiple threads but I've tried that. Before it worked, but now, even that doesn't work!
Not sure if this will help but if you can get into CWM have you tried wiping battery stats, then leave it to charge switched off for a good half hour?
Also, might be a long shot but don't they say if a battery isn't going to be in use for a while put it in the fridge? Well I know this isn't the same situation for you but maybe put it in the fridge for an hour or two. Worth a try if you're totally desperate.
Hope this helps, I can imagine what you're going through. I've had a couple of near cardiac arrests when my battery got too low and it appeared not to charge again.
Good luck

Nothing at all. It just powered off due to low battery and bam, can't charge.
I spoke to a Motorola agent via Live chat and he said that my handset is faulty. I may have to use my warranty to get a replacement, but will the fact that the bootloader is unlocked void it? Despite this being a hardware failure?

Not necessarily! Warning on unlock says "MAY void your warranty". Quit being a scaremonger. How many reports have you seen of people having problems with warranty because they unlocked the bootloader?

I had the same problem with an extended battery. One day it just shut off after a couple hours and wouldn't turn back on despite having a near full charge. I popped in my original OEM battery and it turned on and started charging. Don't know for certain but maybe sometimes batteries just die because they're faulty. Do you have a spare battery to try? Any friends with an atrix who could lend you a battery for a minute? I was running cm7 alpha when the battery died so maybe it was a bug that blew the battery or something?

No, my charge cycle ended and when I tried to charge it, I got the error.
Many people have been PM'ing me on how I fixed this issue.
I didn't. I had to replace it with a new one via warranty. I tried to hide the fact that I had unlocked my boot-loader by pretending that I didn't know what it was.
If they do ask about the bootloader, then you can say that this is a hardware issue, not software, so the fact that the bootloader is unlocked has nothing to do with the modem not powering up.
The first step I did was to have a live chat with one of the Motorola engineers on their website. Once they told me that there was nothing that could be done, I printed out the chat session and requested a replacement in my Orange store and the promptly replaced it.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, now I know what to do.

So I had bought this phone off ebay and when I got it today I tried to turn it on, but nothing happened.
I then plugged the phone in and tried powering it on and still nothing. I tried charging the battery and left it alone for an hour and afterwards the result is the same. Basically when I plug in the phone to the charger, the phone's screen will flash a battery icon as if its going to charge for a split second and then go blank. And then it will flash the battery icon again and then go blank again and it will go on like this for a couple of minutes until the screen finally stays blank.
So as I said even though I leave the phone to charge for a while, it still won't turn on and the only result seems to be that the phone gets warm near the camera. Also I tried to see if download mode works and pressed both volume buttons and I get a brief flash of some words. After doing it for several times I saw it said 'Low battery, cannot download' all in red.
I searched the forum and tried leaving the battery out for a while and also putting it in the fridge to see if anything would happen but nothing. So can anyone help? Is it just the battery?
Could be the battery - if you are on good terms with a local ATT store, try going there and asking if you can borrow a battery from their demo device to see if yours will power up. That's the best cheap way I can think of to rule that out.
Other possibility is a bad USB port. My first device developed a failure at about 2 months - I'm actually on day 5 with my warranty replacement. There is another member here, Moustro I think, who also may have a bad USB port. He and I were wondering if perhaps there was a bad batch out there. I'm not sure what ATT's warranty policy is for items re-sold on eBay, but might be worth checking out...
yeah that does sound like it could be the battery boot loop, take some photos of the battery to see if it is the oem... if it is the oem try a stand alone chager

I live in Canada don't think I'd get much help from AT&T probably.
Also the battery is the original one and not a replacement. I left it unplugged for a few hours and just now plugged it back in and its the same battery icon flashing for a couple of minutes and then blank screen. No charging whatsoever. I tried different outlets and different USB ports on my notebook and its all the same.
I also have an Infuse and charging for that every by every method is just fine so its my SII that's messed up.
If it's any condolence to you, I just bought a brand new GS2 from the ATT store today. The battery was semi-charged when I got it, and when it ran out, I plugged it in and got the same thing you did. Battery is flashing, cannot power it on, even plugged in. I also got the red "Low battery, cannot download".
I spent the better part of 4 hours reloading my apps and email addys, and everything else to get my phone up and running, and now this.
I am going back to the ATT store tomorrow and requesting a different brand new one.
This is my 2nd GS2, because I destroyed my first one in an accident.
Just as dandrumheller was saying. I had simimiar issues where the phone battery would blink on and off even if the charger was plugged in or not while the phone was powered off. The only way I could get my phone to boot to prepare it for warranty exchange was to flash a rom through Odin. But if you can't get it into download mode this wouldn't work.
My suggestion would be to use a different battery. That would let you know if its a hardware issue or bad battery.
hmm...
I was able to to get it to power on last night with what little battery was left. I then plugged it into the USB of my Mac, rather than the charging wart. When I awoke this AM, I have a fully charged battery, and a working phone. I will let the battery run out again completely today and see what happens.
That's great news! I hope it continues to work for you
I would not let it completely run out. Our batteries don't like that. Don't go below 25 percent. I'm glad you got it working. I know you're relieved.

Call samsung and see if they will honor the warranty? Don't know their rules, but in another thread someone suggested that sale of the phone does not void the warranty.

Were you able to find a fix for your problem? i bought a SGII from ebay and is presenting the same issue
For what its worth I am able to enter download with NO battery. In fact I ONLY do it without a battery. I just hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB to my computer while not pressing anything else. Without battery.
Thought the OP said he couldn't enter download.... so if that doesn't throw it in download it's more than just battery.

Guys,
I tried this and it worked...
At a last resort, i put the battery on nexus to see if it will charge and DAMN !! it did,, so the battery was not the issue...so i grab a swab with little alcohol then clean the terminals on the battery and the spring connectors on the phone... and voila !!! started charging and keeps working perfectly.
It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you guys.
Glad you were able to isolate the problem.

Same problem
Flashing on for a sec then flashing off, buttons flashed too. Phone got hot around the battery. Couldn't have described the problem better
Took some alcohol, cleaned the contacts for the USB connector, cleaned the battery contacts, and booyah, got the charging symbol again! Problem was, I didn't use the phone for a month, it rode around in the front pocket of my laptop bag, and apparently got the contacts dirty. A little toothpick and q-tip fun later, and my phone started charging again. Thanks -

Really? I've had mostly HTC phones and we could run them down pretty low.. I've been running mine down past 10 and it's been fine.. stock battery.
I had the same problem as op. My last resort was to cut the micro usb end of a spare cable and connected it to the (+) and (-) on the phone itself. since the phone booted up, i knew it was the battery. Next, i did the same thing but (+) and (-) on the battery itself while connected to a computer. i held it in place for about 10 seconds. put the battery back in the phone and it started charging again. im sure it wasnt the safeat thing to do, but it worked. Maybe the dead battery needed some kind of jump.
btw. The wires you would be using are the the black and red. and i got this idea from

I believe these are different types of batteries. Not Lithium, but something else. I bought some spare batteries from eBay and the batteries had the same instructions... That it is not good to let them die completely, and charge then preferably when they still have 1/3 charge left.

Hi,
I am very new to the Android world. Got a SGH-i777 from AT&T in US in February 2012 and had to move back to India in June. I got the unlock code from AT&T and used the device for 2 months without issues here on the local network.
Yesterday, the phone showed me a critically low battery message all of a sudden (I had fully charged it the night before) and turned off. When connected to the charger, I get the image of the battery with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it.
Thinking it may be a battery issue, I took it to a local Samsung repair center and he tried using a working battery in it, but still got the same image. He suggested that it may be a motherboard isssue.
Please help !!! I am still in the AT&T contract.

Just a thought. There are a lot of non-nfc batteries around. Are you sure the person at the repair center used the proper battery. The I777 must have an nfc battery. Worth checking out. May still just be the battery failing.

Hmmm, I am not sure which battery he used. Will try a long continuous charge first and if it doesn't work will take it back to the repair center and check if he has an NFC battery. I hope it is just a battery problem and nothing more serious. Thanks for your reply.
An update: I charged the battery for the entire night and got a 100% charged indication in the morning. But when I disconnected the charger and tried to turn on the phone, I have the same issue. I still get the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark.
But this time around, I was able to enter the recovery mode by pressing the Volup+VolDwn+power key and I rebooted the phone from the recovery screen and it worked fine. I am able to run the downloaded apps, make calls etc.
Now, I notice 2 new things:
1) Every time I turn the phone off or when it turns off automatically (which it does very frequently since today), it doesnt restart normally. I have to enter the recovery mode to reboot the phone and make it operational
2) When the phone is turned on and when I charge it, no matter how long I charge, the charge percentage shows 78% always.I guess the only time I get a full 100% charge indication is when the phone is turned off and then charged.
All this is leading me to believe that there might be a problem in the battery. If the phone operates properly from the recovery mode, I guess there is no issue with the mother board. Any ideas?? Please suggest.
I can make some observations. Please bear in mind that anything I say is speculation, basically guess work.
From your description, it sounds like a problem with the battery charging circuitry. It doesn't sound like just the battery itself, but that is the easiest thing to test, by getting a new or at least different battery and trying it.
As far as the battery circuitry, it could be either a hardware failure problem, or a firmware problem. Are you still running stock firmware or have you customized the phone? And which firmware version does it have? If I had the phone, I would reflash the stock firmware to see if the charging issue clears up. If that didn't fix the issue, then I would suspect some form of hardware failure.

Is that something common? I have had an extended battery for about a week with no issues. As far as I know, it does not have intergrated NFC antenna (or chip...seems a subject of debate whether or not stock batter contains just the antenna or chip too). Anyway, I bought the batterny knowing the feature wasn't there. Unless by some fluke a tthe time of order I happened to get an updated version of the battery, but I seriously doubt it as there is not any indication on the battery itself that it does, aside from having 4 prongs. Which leads me to believe with the right materials I can create my own antenna and slap it on there....assuming people are wring with the whole chip thing. Just thought I'd mention since I don't have NFC and don't have that problem...and now curious as to why you suspect it for affect battery charge and the sort.
Hi,
I was on latest shostock 5.2 with Siyah, copied few songs to my external sd card, phone was 95% charged, after few mins the screen went blank
I tried rebooting but nothing happened, went to recovery and tried to clear dalvik cache but it never completed. Tried reflashing the ROM but it got stuck on the dalvik cache clearing, tried to rebbot again and the boot screen started flickering.
Took out the battery for sometime and tried again..now the phone doesnt poer on at all
Have tried to go to download mode by taking battery out, volume up + down and connecting to USB cable on PC..nothing happenss
Tried my USB jig which I used before to remove the triangle, nothing happens.

This sounds like hardware failure. If the above two actions do not show signs of life, it sounds like a hard brick.
Pull battery and wait some hours. Then put battery back and try the above two things again, and anything else you can think of to try to get some signs of life. If not, then warranty repair or replacement is in order.
Edit: actually hardware failure could be battery failure. You need to eliminate that possibility before you send or take it in.

If you're under contract with AT&T, you have a one year warranty from them. Otherwise, the warranty falls back on Samsung. I don't know how Best Buy figures into the picture.
See if you can borrow a good battery to see if that is the problem, maybe from best buy, or an AT&T store, if they have one on hand.

Hello XDA! I have a strange issue here. My girlfriend has a Galaxy S2 on ATT.
The phone is not rooted, and is running the stock rom. The phone will not charge correctly. After leaving it on the charger all night, it'll show 100% battery. However, the minute you take it off the charger, it will only show say, 50% battery. The issue has gotten worse over the past weeks. Her phone hardly holds a charge now. It dies almost immediately after being unplugged. The phone is only 6 months old. I've always avoided the threads on resetting your battery stats, as they've always been wishy washy, and inconclusive. But I'm not sure what to do here.
I'm completely comfortable rooting phones and installing roms and such, but I don't want to do that to my girlfriend's phone. Any ideas?
Reseting battery stats doesn't do anything on this phone, or any Samsung phone for that matter.
The first thing I would suspect is a bad battery. If possible, borrow a known good battery to verify that it will hold a charge before you buy a new one.

Alright. I tried a new battery. It didn't fix the issue.
New phone should be here tomorrow. Hopefully that one works.
so my amaze 4g has been having battery problems for a few days (this is the 2nd battery for it, first died after 13 months), and tonight i went to check a text message and i had about 45% battery left,i swipe to unlock the phone and then 1 sec later it just goes black.
i have tried everything, but the LED wont even turn on when plugged into charger/pc. in device manger i see "qhsusb_dload" , but everything Ive goggled about this issue seems to be related to modified phones, not bone stock.
any help?

Unlucky! Your phone is dead, the only hope for you here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627882
This happens when your battery is really dead. You might have to leave the charger plugged in for a few hours before the LED comes back on.
However, this is a temporary fix, and it is likely that it will happen again.
I'd recommend you to get a new battery, even if plugging it for a few hours solves your problem. HTC Amazes are notorious for killing batteries. If you look around, you'll see threads talking about horrible battery life, similar random shutdowns, and such that can only be fixed with a new battery.

i tested my battery voltage and it was 3.850, how can it be really dead when its rated at 3.8v? i have had the battery issue before, but it never bricked my phone.
It's not bricked. (It shouldn't be)
Remove the battery, press the power button several times to dissipate any remaining charge in the phone, and then insert a fully charged battery. I'd recommend you using a different phone (if available) to charge the said battery.
After that, it should boot up normally.
And if I recall, voltage is supposed to be consistent, regardless of the charge level (unless it's totally dead, then maybe it's different, I don't know)
It's the current you want to look for.

Yeah that's not normal. You could try charging it, but it's likely that the battery is fried already. You can buy a new battery on Amazon or some similar site. Many people (including me) recommend Anker batteries.
If you have no luck with the battery this HTC unbricking project for the amaze is definetly for you

got a new anker battery from someone local, i saw the battery working on an amaze4g, doesn't work on mine. so the phone is the issue, are u sure the unbricking project is for me? it seems to be pointed to ppl who switched S-on
Well i tired to unbrick it, couldn't even get past the first step. linux detects the qualcomm device as bus 001 device 003 but brickdetect does not pick it up.
dead mobo?
