I found this on the internet...
http://www.simplemobilereview.com/how-to-takes-screenshots-on-android-2-3-4-without-rooting/
Tyler found this out!
Press the power button then tap the home button, that simple. You need to tap the home button before the menu for powering off your android device appears. Your screen will flash and you will see the message that the screenshot has been saved. That’s it! Tap two buttons and you have a screenshot from anywhere! No need to be stuck at your computer when you feel the burning desire to share someone’s predictive text mishaps.
The screenshots are stored in the camera shots section of your gallery
I tested and it works on my non rooted HTC Flyer!!!!!
Thanks for sharing OP, works well. Hold down the power button then press home, so simple. Great job HTC.

Not sure if this is the case for all 2.3.4 devices or only HTC phones, but the power button + home buttom combo to take a screen shot also works on the HTC EVO 3D.
Power + Home is an old Screenshot Feature on Flyer since the first Release firmware! Alternative you point with the pen on the screen and yer take a Screenshot without scrible...

Unfortunately, when I tried to find info on how to do screenies before, I was informed to use a cable and SDK to connect to my computer or use the Stylus and it's integrated software. Both options were unacceptable, IMO and I saw no other options.
Searching again for info, I found this today.

So I just got done rooting my HTC Amaze. I'm using the BeastMod Rom. The Phone looks great and performs even better. Except I have a Wi-Fi Error preventing me from turning on Wi-Fi.
I've browsed the forums for similar issues and came across solutions like "reinstall MIUI" and really tech-savvy stuff. I'm not the most technologically gifted person so if anyone can provide solutions in layman's terms, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
**EDIT**
Also, the personalize function doesn't work.
flash a right kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426959
Read FAQ. Look under kernel it is a worth it.
I am getting weird connection issues (sometimes it connects, sometimes doesn't both for wifi and network) and also I've been getting alottt of restarts (pretty papers flying screen), and I'm not sure why? I am using the latest beast mod

I love you. <3 <3.
Oh wait, the personalize function still doesn't work. I hit the Personalize option and it just takes me to the homescreen.
Personalize function button is not working with the custom rom.
But to access them, you can press setting button (second soft button) and press personalize function or just touch and hold anywhere in home screen without shortcut for 3-5 seconds and personalize function will pop up.
If you are a person who is dying for using personalize function button, download launcher app from the market.
I have read on internet about so many people suggesting rooting phone and probably installing some APKs just to take screenshot of any screen on Android phone. And I believe lot of people don't know this -
How to take screenshot on an Android Phone?
Ans -> Press power button (mostly present on top of phone) and keeping it pressed, quickly press "Home" touch key on front screen. That's it. That's all you needed to take screenshot. Image is saved in Gallery folder of your phone.
This pretty much works in Gingerbread and ICS, if not other versions of Android.
Hope people find this info useful, for those who dont know yet.
Enjoy!!!
Not necessary!
In my phone, Galaxy SL, you need to press Back button + Home Button for taking a screenshot!

all those articles mentioning of installing APK or rooting is because of the fact that NOT ALL phones with OS version less then 2.3 provide taking screenshot functionality out of box. This is now changed with 4.0 OS version. ALL phones having OS version 4.0 WILL HAVE ability to take screenshot out of box.

Press the Back button in right bottom and hold it. While holding Back button now press Home button in the middle. You will hear a capture sound and in moment it will appear Screen captured. Save as image file
That's not true. It also works in Gingerbread 2.3
People just don't know this fact.

Every phone has different method to take screenshot and is not OS specific ( OS < 2.3) . :/
****troll warning****

Hi. Old thread but I'll just add that on my Samsung T679 running Android 2.3.5 to take a screenshot it's: hold "home" down, press power button once.

Just a thought - what you guys think of this new HTC coming out - HTC Proto.. the oval shape part of the camera much resembles the Amaze in my opinion. 2 bad its rumored to be a bogged down entry level device - 1gb duo-core / 5 megapixel cam / 4 gigs of storage space lol.
they need to stop with that stupid ass recent apps button and just add the damn three dot menu button

wait, are you talking about replacing the recent apps button with the 3 dot menu or adding it up to make it 4 buttons? lol... at this point i'm still lost for words as to why they got rid of the search button though... i'm not feelin the 3 capacitives at all - but ofcourse that's just me... I'VE GOTS to have a search button. period. lol

They should just get rid of the static/hardware buttons altogether, and use software buttons like on the Nexus Galaxy, etc. Then, through mods, the choice of buttons, and how they look, is yours (or, more accurately, the developers).
It actually look nice for entry-level phone, im diggin it! That "amaze oval" camera looks huge though
Also guys, the recent apps soft key Is amazing, on my galaxy Nexus I'm always quickly switching between apps really quickly, lightning fast!! I prefer it over the search key! And I used the search key A LOT!

I remember Google at one point saying they wanted to get rid of the menu button because it was a mistake because it confused a lot of the newbies.
Also I think sense 4.1 has a feature where holding down the multitasking brings up the menu.

its not a "new phone" its just a more powerful version of the desire v... http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...eady-released-desire-v-with-one-small-change/
Hi guys I'm from the UK and will probably be getting this phone when they release it as the htc deluxe or whatever over here.
On my one x, I can change functionality of the recent apps button to act as the menu button, getting rid of the ugly black bar at the bottom of the screen. I was watching a video review of the DNA, and it looks like this has been removed?
Can anyone confirm if this option has been put back in?
it isn't HTC that made this descision it is Google.. they got rid of the back button for the recents button in ICS... I havent looked back since ICS... I love my recents button for quick swapping between apps... but I'm sure if you want once the developers get into the device they will allow custom button mappings. maybe not to the extent of the nexus line where you can map widgets to the button but it should easily be the menu button
Actually its the same as the one x it just wasn't enabled in the settings on the DNA in the video.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
i can confirm that in the current stock buid, the option to remap buttons has been taken out, and from what i understand it was vzw descision not htc
easy fix on custom roms to remap it
Engadget's review stated this option was removed.
Do people miss having a back button when web browsing? Since there isn't even a menu button, I assume people use some kind of swiping on the screen? Unless the back button and address and such always are shown on screen....

there is a back button, just no menu button, which cases that horrible 3 dot bar to show up in some apps
Hmmm so hopefully this will appear on the unbranded European/global versions. Verizon took it out? I thought we had it bad over here for crapware on branded phones, but to take it back out is just mind boggling.
Thanks all. I guess I'll just have to wait and see when it launches here.

Yeah i agree. I have the same option on the evo lte. This phone is prolly no different. The one x,xt,evo lte,dna all will run the same stuff basically id say. Only difference is the x plus and dna have jelly bean version where the one x and evo lte have ice cream but the rumour is we get updated this week as well.

Just got my Note II; coming from DNA. I have no complaints about the DNA, the battery lasted all day, but I realized I needed even more battery life than that. I do miss the screen honestly. Now that that is out of the way:
I got a minor question. When I hold down the button on the left at the bottom of the phone to bring up Google Now, Google Now pops up, but so does the keyboard (like the search box is already selected). I know I can hit the back button to remove the keyboard and see all my cards on the full screen, but how can I make it so that Google Now pops up without the keyboard (unless I manually tap the search box)? The keyboard covers my cards .
Would somebody give that a try for me, and see if their keyboard pops up by default when they go into Google Now?
Thanks!
My keyboard pops up but I didnt even know that got you to google now ive been going it by holding home and clicking google at the bottom

My keyboard doesn't pop up. I'm using SwiftKey if that makes any difference.

My keyboards popup too. Not sure how anyone's doesn't or wouldn't...
Holding the menu button is to get to Google search (which integrates with Now) . That's why the keyboard auto pops up. Google Now is when you hold Home button and press Google.

Ahhh I see it makes sense (I just noticed the first replier was holding the home then hitting google, but I didn't try it). Works good; thanks!
