Ok so I can't wait any longer for the Galaxy Nexus, I need a new phone now, and I'm considering switching carriers.
I need to make a decision soon! Rezound vs Razr? I know I'm in a rezound forum, lol...but I'm hoping to get some unbiased opinions.
Battery life? Screen performance under sun? GPS performance (very important)? Thickness of phone, weight, etc? Locked bootloader? Development support? Manufacturer upgrade history...I want ICS on this!
Also, anything I should know about Verizon itself. Their billing practices? Customer service? network?

the only thing the RAZR has going for it over the Rezound is just it's look(physically), but spec-wise the Rezound is a superior device. not to mention if you have good eye sight, you will notice this weird 'fuzz' around text & icons on the screen of the RAZR due to it's inferior display.
as for verizon in general, the service is really good, but they sure are pricey as hell & their voice plans suck(as do the new tiered data plans). i'm only here because i got on while they still had the unlimited data.
Rezound.
"Thinness" is the only advantage the Razr has and it actually makes it less comfortable. The rezound fits in hand like a glove.
The motoblur razr isn't in the same league as the Rezound. Read the reviews.

heh.. i wish the rezound was bigger. i'm hoping seidio or mugen will release some gigantic 5000mAh+ battery that at least doubles the thickness of it.

I went to Verizon today to compare these phones. The employees there are so stupid. These people are there for 8 hrs everyday, can't they take the time to learn about the phones?
Anyways, I left more confused than ever. I can't decide which phone I want!! Two things that worry me about the Rezound are battery life and having a non-amoled screen. My Vibrant is an Amoled, and honestly I LOVE THE SCREEN. Even though it is low resolution, the contrast ratio, deep blacks, and visibility under sunlight is amazing. I'm worried the non-amoled screen of Rezound is not going to make me happy. Sure the Rezound is higher resolution but I'm willing to give up resolution for amazing contrast ratio and visibility under the sun.
Ahhh I can't decide!

Did you play around with the RAZR at all? If I hold it about 1ft away from my face I can see this weird fuzz around the txt & icons. It's enough that it screws with my eyes and makes me feel like somethings wrong with them & have to rub them... Even at 2ft away I can still barely see the fuzz. Oddly, some people say they don't notice it, others do & then people who've said the screen gave them a headache for the 1st day or two until they 'adjusted' to it.... LOL

I didn't notice any fuzz around texts. Great now I have to go back tomorrow and look, lol!
I'll try to go tomorrow and compare the phones again, I'll keep an eye out for the fuzz.
The Razr felt uncomfrotable in my hands, the Rezound felt comfy. The Razr screen just kept me going back to it though, I'm a sucker for Super Amoled, enough so that I am willing to give up higher resolution screens for it. Deep rich blacks, vibrant colors, excellent visibility under the sun, I guess I'm hooked on sAmoled.

I'm leaning towards the Rezound though. Mainly because it doesn't have a locked bootloader. I'm thinking that means more dev support in the future.

Anyway...I noticed under the store lights at verizon the Rezound had major glare off the screen just from the lights in the store, but the Razr had very little glare. Even if the Nexus was out I'd still chose the Rezound. First of all the RAZR has TERRIBLE battery life even w/ smart actions on. I was out and about using the phone (moderate usage) and I dropped from 100% to 20-30% battery life. This was about a week after using the phone, so there was plenty of time for it to break in and calibrate. The RAZR gets pretty hot too like 110-114 while streaming netflix, pretty uncomfortable. The colors are rich on the screen yes, but you can clearly see how pixelated the screen is thanks to the pentile sub-matrix. The Nexus also has the same issue with being on a pentile matrix (people have already complained about the screen). There are also speaker/audio problems on the Nexus, as well as sudden slowdowns that involve notifications. Plus the build of Samsung phones are just inferior to Moto and HTC IMO.
The Rezound is good so far, it has the highest clocked cpu/gpu out of the bunch. Even if the soc in it is "older" it easily keeps up and exceeds the RAZR and Nexus in some areas of performance, benching. I know the RAZR and Nexus handle java better than the Rezound though. I really think this has to do with Sense and it is a memory/cpu hog, and the fact that GB doesn't really support true HW acceleration could be another major factor in why a device of this caliber has slight issues w/ Sense. Just the app drawer and notifications, some lag on the browser but still ok. If you switch out for ADW EX or Go launcher etc this solves the app drawer and notifcation lag for the most part. It's not perfect but much better. Another issue w/ the Rezound atleast for me and a few others.. DEAD PIXELS/STUCK PIXELS on the screen . I'm on my second Rezound and I found a dead/stuck pixel on the screen. I even showed it to the rep instore that saw the first one, and she stated she didn't see it (obvious lie was obvious). I'll give it till tomorrow and if it doesn't clear up, I'm going to raise hell at another store. But overall I'd say the Rezound is still the clear winner here. Once it's on AOSP or a stripped down sense and ICS oh baby.

Thanks for the insight. Is the bootloader locked or unlocked on the HTC Rezound? I keep reading 2 different things. I know for certain it is locked on Razr, but what about on Rezound?
Oh about the pentile sub-matrix...I own a Vibrant right now, it has a pentile sub-matrix at a lower resolution than that found on the Razr and I absolutely love it. Yes I see pixels, but the high contrast ratio, deep true blacks, vibrant colors and amazing visibility under the sun is amazing. I don't know I just personally think the negative comments about pentile are overblown.

Yeah the pentile sub-matrix wasn't too bad. The screen on the RAZR had beautiful colors, but the main concern was the pixelation was still fairly noticeable and there were black blobs on the screens sometimes during load screen. That only occured however if the screen was black/dark, it was "normal" to motorola. People have been complaining about the Nexus screen, but as in terms of color reproduction AMOLED will always be superior to LCD. I just wonder if all manufacterers going w/ AMOLED are going to be using pentile sub-matrixes now. I mean don't get me wrong the screen on the Rezound is awesome, amazing even (minus the stuck/dead pixel which seems to be going away thanks to the app on the market). I was watching a 1280 x 720p of an anime I'm watching Shakugan no Shana III final and it looked amazing. The playback was smooth eventhough it was .mkv. If you do get the Rezound I'd add a 3rd party launcher and you'd be good to go. The sense isn't that laggy, but it's definately not as smooth and as polished as 3.0 I think.
Edit: Woops forgot to mention! Yes there is no S-off at the moment, and only a temp root is available. But I'm sure that we will have S-off w/ custom roms and kernels.

What is s-off? Never heard of that in the Samsung Forums.
ps...why is it so dead in the verizon forums? The Rezound and Razr are new devices but the forums are so quiet. The forums for new phones on T-Mobile and At&t are crazy with lots of buzz for the first few months. I'm worried, those this mean Verizon phones get less development support from the community?

s-off means that the NAND portion of the device is unlocked and can be written to. Simply put it will allow you to flash non HTC signed images, as well as obtain permanent root. Essentially it's the motorola equivilent of having an unlocked bootloader. TBH most of the people on Verizon probably don't even know there's even development for their phones. Half of the VZW customers are either old, the braindead and just have a smartphone and don't know how to use it if their lives depended on it. Or business users and average users that don't care about unlocking their phones or performance increase. We're probably what 5-10% of the VZW customer build up? There are quite a few devs that will support this phone, heck you should check the Thunderbolt forums. So many roms and active development, there's even CM7 and ICS (I think some unstable alpha build) for it. Just a matter of time before development picks up here, as the Rezound is still a new phone.
Yea I'm in the same boat as you. Been to the store a few times. Been leaning towards the rezound but bit concern about outside usage and durability (scratch resistance) of the screen. The three things that annoy me about the razr are not as comfortable; green tint (esp at off angles) and non-removable battery. Hum also I like the sense browser a lot better. Dolphin doesn't do nearly as good as a job at reformatting text when you tap zoom (its a little thing but the browser will be one of those frequently used apps).

How much do you use your phone out in direct sunlight? That's never been a problem for me. I've always thought that lcd screens had a truer color reproduction to me, amoled always seemed cartoonish. I'd much rather have a 720p lcd screen where I can't see the pixels than an super amoled (not even plus) screen wear the text is fuzzy. Also, the razr has a greenish color tint when the screen brightness is turned down.
I won't use an android phone that I can't replace the battery on, period. All of them are battery suckers.

I haven't heard of any screen complaints on the nexus, yes its pentile, but the pixels are so small, you are probably not going to see them.
I'm beginning to think that ICS is not a finished product. I've read several reviews where its just not as snappy as the GS2's, which is crazy. I'll stick with the rezound for now and htc, never been a fan of the plastic samsung builds.
We really need s-off so I can transfer all my game data over...
Just ordered my Rezound from amazon for a penny. Apparently back ordered but expected to ship by friday.

Main complains I've seen is the volume changing on it's own , poor audio quality and the screen's blue tinge. I looked at a HD review video and the Nexus did look pixelated, but will obviously leave final judgement about the screen when i see the phone in person. I will look at the bloated Nexus Prime and see what she can do.
Battery life?
I'm extremely impressed. I didn't want to hope it could possibly last an entire 10 hour work day on a single charge with what was sure to be a gas guzzling dual barrel 1.5GHz processor on the LTE network and the highest pixel density in the industry, but it does. And then some, on days when I can restrain from playing with it non stop.
Screen performance under sun?
As good (or bad) as anything else I've played with. Direct sunlight is a tough one.
GPS performance (very important)?
Maybe it's just that my point of comparison is an hTC EVO running CM7.1 but GPS lock is much, MUCH faster with this phone.
Thickness of phone, weight, etc?
Coming from the EVO (which is similarly sized), this actually looks/feels slightly smaller, and the backplate has a nice, confident feel in the hand.
Locked bootloader? Development support?
Still locked. It looks to be a popular hTC phone, though, so it should have Dev support as solid as the EVO 4G, DInc, etc.
Manufacturer upgrade history...I want ICS on this!
Historically, developers will beat hTC with platform updates by 3-6 months. I'd be surprised if Feb/March rolled around and we were still waiting on root and an ICS ROM.

I've got experience with VZW, Sprint and AT&T Customer Service and they were all about the same. The only knowledgeable Customer Service employee I've ever spoken with was with Apple about ten years ago. Even they've declined now.
Network?
Oh man! Sprint coverage was absolutely awful at my house. 4G was sporadic throughout the city I live in (Winston-Salem, NC) and I would be lucky to get dialup speeds at my house. I harassed them for 9 months before they terminated my contract without penalty for excessive data roaming on other networks. Now I am getting 14000kbps in the metal office building that would run my EVO's battery down in two hours, trying to get a signal with Sprint!
VZW gets an A+ for the LTE network!
I had been watching the Nexus for some time before it's launch. My Droid X in all honesty was probably fine - it was overclocked, undervolted and running the latest MIUI built on ICS - but I had my mind set on the GN as the next big thing. I was travelling for work on launch day, but was able to swing by a Verizon store and pick one up late in the afternoon.
First impressions after getting a chance to check it out in my hotel room were extremely positive. The 4.65" display is immediately eye-catching. Colors just pop off the screen, and some of the more colorful icons against a black app drawer background were really great looking. This was my first 4g phone, and the speeds were pretty amazing too. Driving back from our meetings, I was playing with the phone (I wasn't the one driving!) and downloading apps off the market. I lost 4g a couple times, but I was in a mid sized city with lots of surrounding rural area. I live in DFW, so I wasn't too worried about the ability to hold a 4g connection there.
Now, I had seen the Rezound prior to the GN coming out. I can remember reading about it before it's release and thinking 'Oh great, another HTC phone that looks like every other HTC phone, but slightly faster'. I wasn't interested at all. But after going to see it in person, I really liked the phone. Comparing it to the then newly released RAZR, it was much nicer to hold. Phone felt solid, not as chunky as I had thought, and overall impressed me. But I was set on the GN!
Preamble out of the way, the GN had some flaws that I soon noticed. Nothing huge at first, but they became more apparent as time went on. Ultimately the reception or signal strength killed it for me, and I made the switch to the Rezound. I'll break it down into a comparison below to give you guys my take:
Form factor and physical
There has been a lot of talk about the GN's cheap build quality. I would disagree. The phone was plastic, yes, and it was really light, but to me it felt solid enough. There is also a lot of talk about the battery door, but again while it is flimsy on it's own, it snaps into the phone well. The door has 10+ points it snaps into, and once it's in it feels like a smooth, seamless part of the back of the phone. Especially with the extended battery. The downside is this is a pretty slick surface to hold a phone. Add in the width of the phone, which was slightly too big for me to hold one handed comfortably, and I was constantly worried I'd drop it.
The Rezound does feel a little more solid. It has a nice heft to it. With the extended battery, it has a significant heft to it. To me, the Rezound is easier to hold with either battery. The buttons are more flush with the phone and mounted in the traditional places, which I think I prefer. You don't accidentally hit them, but they're not hard to hit either. The downside, the big downside, is the creaking! Both my battery doors creak. For all the crap I've seen people give the GN for the battery door, at least it didn't creak every time I hit the left side of my keyboard.
The final decision here really comes up to screen size imo. The physical dimensions look close on paper, but the extra width and height are extremely noticeable when actually using the phone.
Screen
I talked about how the GN has that 'wow' factor. And it does. Some people call it over saturation, but man it looks good. Well, it looks good until you play with a Rezound for 10 minutes. When I was at the VZW store thinking about switching my GN for a Rezound, I was not as impressed by the screen on the Rezound at first. And I think the reason why is Sense or Gingerbread. The UI, wallpapers, notification bar, font, etc. all are much more professional and attractive on the GN. The Rezound looked terrible in stock form IMO. Giant ugly fonts, widgets with cartoonish graphics, nothing took advantage of or looked good on the Rezound screen. But comparing the same websites and applications side by side, and the Rezound quickly became the clear winner. Colors are much more clear and natural looking. On a forum app I use often, I could not tell the difference in alternating dark blues used on alternating posts. On the Rezound it was clear as day. And after getting the Rezound setup by removing Sense and getting Go Launcher, it eliminates a lot of my initial distaste. I have the Rezound as the clear winner here. However, the difference between 4.65" and 4.3" is big. If you don't mind the AMOLED tech, the bigger screen might win you over. I did find it funny though that with the on screen buttons, I could see a good bit more vertically of every web page on the Rezound.
One last thought, I read on my phone a lot. Kindle app using white text on a black background. The blacks of the AMOLED are amazing, but text is not as crisp as on the LCD.
Software
I'll be brief here. ICS has some bugs or kinks to work out. This should be expected with it's first release. It's got a lot of good things going for it too though. If it were an option on the Rezound, I'd take it. Sense it's too invasive for me, and part of me buying the Rezound was due to my research here knowing that I could easily remove Sense (thanks Scott's Roms!). The Rezound does have some nice touches though. I like the lock screen more. The camera software is great and the shutter lag is close to the GN's. Dismissing or going into calendar reminders from the lockscreen is really good too. Overall the GN wins, but the Rezound with a little tweaking beats the GN in some areas while falling short in others. This was closer than I would have first guessed.
Battery
I didn't test either phone extensively with the stock batteries. With my short use on the Rezound's stock battery, I was impressed it was able to seemingly last a good amount of time with only 1650 mah. That battery size is too small for a LTE phone IMO, and with the physical size of the battery I think HTC could have given us something better.
The GN with the 2100 mah extended battery lasts all day. At 24 hours off the charger, I would typically be between 10 and 20% battery life left. Not too bad for an LTE phone, but I think software hurts it here. Looking at my battery usage graph, there is a lot of 'awake' time where my screen is off. This seems to be somewhat common with the GN, so there may be some process keeping the phone awake. Lots of people suggests disabling some sound options (sound on keypress and something else I think), which I did, but did not notice an impact.
The Rezound, with the 2750 mah extended battery kicks the crap out of the GN. Not really apples to apples due to the larger size, but I unplugged 31 hours ago and have 58% battery left. The awake time and screen time match up almost perfectly, which is also probably giving the Rezound a healthy edge here.
Camera
I'm not much of a camera person, just not that good at it and I don't know how to adjust ISO and other camera settings to make the shot better. With everything set to auto, the Rezound takes better looking pictures, at least in the situations I was snapping photos in. Pretty much 100% in doors. With a pro behind the lense, I'm not sure how that would change.
Reception
This is the big one for me, the one that made me spending several days reading about these phones and ultimately trading the GN in. Once I got the GN home to DFW, I was a little surprised at the reception. Just going by the bars at first, it seemed low at my house and 'okay' at work. While at my house, I booted up my Droid X and did some side by side testing. The DX was hitting -88 to -93 on average, while the GN was above -100 everywhere, at times hitting -113!
Now, after some reading online, I discovered that the GN was giving me the LTE signal, while the DX was giving me the CDMA signal. But by setting the GN to CDMA only, it would report the CDMA signal to me, giving me a better comparison. After doing this, the GN range dropped down to -93 to -103. Not great at all, but enough to hold a signal in 3g. The problem though was how slow the phone switched radios. Going from 4g to 3g would take up to a minute. Further testing lead to some cases of dropping a 3g signal, altough surprisingly it did hold onto the 4g signal despite the worse signal strength. I ran the SpeedTest app multiple times every night for 10 day, and the highest speed I saw was 8,200 kbps down, 4,400 up.
An even bigger shocker though was the wifi performance. I have a weight bench in my garage, and like to listen to Pandora on my phone while working out. The GN had zero bars of wifi (but would stay connected...mostly) and would take 10 seconds between tracks to buffer. My DX had 3 bars of wifi (I know, bars are not apples to apples and sucks as a measurement) and would play Pandora seamlessly. My house is small, the router is pretty high end and not that far away. Bad 3g, bad 4g and bad wifi had me feeling pretty bummed about the phone. To be fair, I never had a great signal on the DX at my house either, but as the above numbers show, it was better than the GN.
To sum up the GN, I travelled for Christmas and visited some areas with marginal service and some areas that should have had good service, according the VZW's coverage map. I had my brother's cheap-o Samsung Android Sprint phone to test side by side. The GN lost or tied every time. The kicker was when we were in downtown Bryan, TX, which is right next door to College Station and should have had great coverage. I had no signal at all the entire time we were in Bryan. This was not during VZW's 4g outage. My brother had a signal in the -80's on his Samsung.
That was what sent me to the VZW store Christmas eve to check out the Rezound. They had it right next to a display GN. I tested all three phones in terms of signal. They would fluctuat slightly, but the high/low for both my GN and the display model were the same. -78 to -83. The Rezound was -66 to -72. Both GNs were set to CDMA only. At this point I'm thinking 'Okay, the Rezound is better. It's only 10 or 12 db, but that would put me in a much better spot with the numbers I was getting at my house.' Then I decided to run the SpeedTest app. I used both display models for this, and made sure they were hitting the same server. The results were consistent between runs. The Rezound hit 24,000 down and 11,000 up. The GN hit 14,000 down and 6,000 up. I repeated this again and again. Obviously both phones were switched to 4g for this test. I then repeated the GN results with my phone, and walked over to the VZW rep and said 'Hi I'd like to return my GN for a Rezound please'.
I haven't done extensive testing on the Rezound since being back home (unpacking, catching up with friends... you understand). But I ran SpeedTest right when I got home. 30,600 down and 9,900 up. After that I just smiled and felt fine about doing more testing later. What I can't make out though, is why so many online reviews and articles seem to thing there isn't a problem with the GN. Maybe it's a problem with only some GNs? Anandtech articles I respect very highly. They know their stuff, and always have a great technical analysis. Their article on GN signal issues just confused me, because it seemed to say there was no problem. I don't know, I did a lot of testing with the GN. I wanted to keep it! I won't bore you with all the details, but I lost signal five miles from DFW airport in a busy shopping center. I did many, many side by side SpeedTest runs with my buddy and his Bionic. I feel like I gave the GN every chance to perform. I will say that at work my GN was -93 to -100 on 4g signal, and at times I'd hit 24,00 down, which was very close to what the Bionic was pulling.
My take-away was that with a great signal, the GN will perform. With a poor signal, the GN does a good job of holding on to that signal. But the GN radio just can't get a signal as well as some other phones, and the Rezound gets a great signal in comparison.
Miscellaneous
The GN is quick. Transitions are seamless, apps open fast and market downloads install in no time. The Rezound is also quick. As quick? Not really. There's still some slight hesitation here or there. I'd say it's more software than hardware. If you put any stock into benchmarks, the GN did 5,850 in Antutu and the Rezound did 5,640.
The Rezound is chunky with the extended battery. But I like it better than the GN in terms of feel in the hand.
Um...if you made it this far, anything else you want to know?

I noticed the same thing about the graphics and text in the status bar and other areas of the OS. When you view something that really takes advantage of the screen it's quite impressive, yet HTC didn't put much thought into really exploiting one of the phone's main selling points. It seems like an odd oversight. The colors don't even look subdued to me when you view something that actually has bright colors in it, and that's after using a Droid Charge for awhile which is heavily over-saturated. Most of the included wallpapers are pretty dull with the exception of one or two, and a few of them aren't even sharp.

So the dB numbers and speedtests above were all captured w/the Rezound's extended battery? Were you able to perceive any change in behavior (esp. w/3G) when you replaced the stock battery?

If you were using the Rezound stock there are two well three factors here that would make it hesitate/lag. #1.) Sense - I'm not sure if it's just this release but yeah it's nowhere near as smooth as it should be for the hardware on this device. #2.) GB - The device is still on Gingerbread and I think the transitions/animations do not properly utilize the GPU, that and there's the lack of overall HW acceleration. #3.) Store demos are always laggy due to all the crap it probably goes through at the store. Yes it is just the software in this case and I can attest to that. I put ICS on my old Droid 3 and that sucker flew. No transitional/animation lag thanks to the proper GPU utilization + HW acceleration. I've gotten 6k on my Rezound on Antutu before, so I really wouldn't use a benchmark to gauge performance here.
Thanks for the feedback guys. This was a big purchase for me, so I did a ton a research. I really went from GN all the way, to loving the Rezound and respecting the GN for what it is. It's just too flawed to be the game changer I thought it would be.

You hit it with the status bar comment. The blue icons of ICS might not be for everyone, but they're a damn sight better than what HTC/GB gives us. They're just...overblown? Comical? Meh, I don't know, it's fine just a little more attention to detail here could have helped push the Rezound up in reviewers minds imo.

Thanks man! You are correct, all of the numbers I posted were with the Rezounds extended battery. I almost thought your question could be answered with 'No way, they perform the same!'. Which is what I've been reading.
But I decided to take a slow walk around the house with both the extended and standard batteries in. This included going in bathrooms, closets, the garage, etc. Basically every part of my house.
The extended battery was between -85 and -95 db. The living room was the worst at -95. I changed out for the standard battery, and right off the numbers were a little better. It was -81 to -90. What's funny is with the extended battery the garage was a solid -90. Every part of it. With the standard, it was the same solid number but -85 instead of -90.
I will note that when I put the standard cover back on, there was very very little creak to it. It fit very flush. My extended battery cover have a fairly large creak on one side. Maybe it's not making the best contact? Or maybe it's just not as good?
I might order a new extended cover from HTCpedia and see if that fits any better, and if it has an impact compared to the one I have now.

I've been chasing this down here in XDA (and also in AF) with several people claiming plenty of antenna material on the extended cover, just that it's covered up instead of visibly copper on the standard cover. They probably are correct, but it also seems to be true that there is some level of signal sacrificed by the extended cover.
So will I accept a 5dB signal loss to achieve 70% more battery? Going from an excellent connection to very good? It feels dumb to admit, but my answer's probably yes.

Both my original and extended battery cover creaks pretty bad. HTC sent me a new back cover and it didn't change a thing. The only way I found to reduce it was fold a piece of paper a couple of times and lay in on the battery before you put the cover on it. It does not completely get rid of it but it did reduce it.
yeah, the creaky battery door definitely sucks. mine just started creeking more on the left side from taking the back cover off a lot, but with a TPU, i don't notice it that much. oh well; i should try to complain to get another door out of them lol

Hello, I'm new to the HTC Rezound forum. I have a Droid Charge that is irking me badly with call problems, so Verizon is allowing me to get a Spectrum, Razr, Bionic, or Rezound.
The displays of the Razr and Bionic totally rule out using those phones (can't stand pentile.)
This leaves the Spectrum or the Rezound.
My intuition tells me the HTC Rezound is the better phone.
I consider many factors:
battery life, speed, development, reliability, call quality (headphone jack quality isn't much concern, I have another phone with good HP out), radio quality.
3G reliability in low coverage areas is definitely a concern.
One thing I really like about the Droid Charge is the ability to go back to total stock, is this a problem on the Rezound?
If anybody has any thoughts, I'd love to hear them.

i just got the rezound and i am loving it. HTC usually has better build quality overall in my opinion
Id go for the Rezound. Quality is better and rezound has a nice community.

They have basically the same hardware with the spectrum having a bigger screen so it's mostly preferance, IMO the spectrum is quite ugly and the UI looks like it was made in paint. Also I've heard that the ui slows the phone down a TON. The rezound will most likely have more development. Can't say much about battery life except that if you flash some of the custom Roms in here you can get some insane battery
I too came from the charge, although I bought mine... But anywhoo the rezound is so much better, I can't believe it sometimes. The only thing I miss on my old charge is the Super Amoled screen. But aside from that, this phone is just top notch.

you can back to stock once they are done with s-off.
The Rezound blows the Spectrum away in development and most likely battery.
You can't go back to total stock until we get S-OFF but pretty close.
Rezound also has one of the best signals in a phone I've seen.
Spectrum has been out for quite some time and still has no forum on XDA. Rezound does have a ton more pixels in it's display which means a clearer display than the spectrum but that could be personal preference.
I'm absolutely loving the Rezound, and believe or not, but sense 3.6 is pretty nice. The phone runs very smooth. The screen is amazing.
I came from a Droid Charge also (although I absolutely LOVED mine after it was all tricked out with custom ROM/Kernel etc). My Wife has the Charge now & she is very happy with it.
I absolutely LOVE the Rezound running the setup in my sig, but I do slightly miss that awesome Charge screen. I use HDMI everyday & that works awesome.
I liked the way the Charge screen is wider, that makes web browsing in portrait easier.
I do miss the deep blacks of the charge screen. But overall its not enough to make me look back
both of them are great phone.
I was on Spectrum, and now I have rezound.
spectrum has better screen (Ah-IPS LCD) and larger (4.5 inch).
I compared those two, spectrum won.
Spectrum is thinner and lighter.
I like my rezound but I cannot say rezound is not bulky.
This is what I do not like on my rez. heavy and bulky.
hardware is same. 1.5g s3 snapdragon, 1gb ram...
Spectrum has less internal space.
spectrum has only 2gb while rez has 16gb.
that's not a big deal since we can switch external sd card.
Spectrum is more laggy.
I was using it when rooting was not released, so i do not know it has better response when bloatware is removed.
but just when I used it, it was very laggy.
the last thing.. I came to rezound because of this reason.
there is NOT spectrum forum in XDA.
no devs, no custom roms, no tweaks.. nothing!
only rooting is available in rootzwiki.
oh, there's one serious bug on spectrum for me.
I always listen to music via bluetooth with my phone.
With spectrum, EVERY TIME, I have to manually connect bluetooth.
I have to get in bluetooth setting menu, and click the bt device on the list.
so annoying!
all of the other phones are not like that.
once connected (registered), they automatically connect each other.
if you do not use bt, it will not a big problem on spectrum.
What did they say in the LG forum?
Thanks for all the input, guys. I ended up with the Rezound. It will be here tomorrow. I figured the display on the Spectrum might eclipse the Rezound. I have heard mixed opinions on the display, with some saying they prefer the Rezound display. I didn't actually go into a Verizon store to find out myself. I have looked at the Rezound display quite a bit, but not the Spectrum.
I thought I was trippin' when I couldn't find a Spectrum forum on XDA, lol. The way I look at it, I still have a Charge with the nice SAMOLED+ display. This go around I want a phone that has reliable radios and is fast. I heard about the lag issues on the Spectrum, which would probably be possible to fix with software if there were development support. Coming from the Charge, it will be a fresh breath of air to have a larger development community (love the Charge community, but it just isn't that big).
I actually had lost nearly all interest in phones because I couldn't find anything else to improve my Charge (and my upgrade isn't until next year). I've tried just about every ROM, kernel, radio, and recovery available. I also have tried many scripts, overclocking, schedulers, governors, etc. It still lags out on occasion.

So I got my DInc4g this past weekend and I'm loving the phone, I chose it over the new GS3. Today I was playing around with a coworkers Google Nexus and it's pretty damn nice. I have been an iphone user since my XPeria X10. So I'm not hip on the whole current android universe.
Looking at specs... The nexus and the DInc4g seem pretty close, except the camera. I like the size of the nexus, it's the middle ground between the two other phones. And JB runs super smooth on it.
I'm still in my window to exchange this phone for the nexus. So I'm reaching out for opinions.
Nexus or DInc4g? Or can somebody convince me to wait 2 days for the SG3?

its all personal preference really, i think the biggest 2 things are this:
1) what screen size/form factor is best for you
2) what version of android do you like running? if you get the nexus you ll always have the most up to date (well for 2 years or so) stock versions of android..and you can get miui w/ it to....if you get the gs3 you ll (probably) get aosp versions and have tw roms...witht his (hopefully) we ll have aosp at some point, but primarily sense roms
and price is a factor to some extent (if using an upgrade to purchase)
I can't give you any info on the SG3 but I can give you a direct comparison on the Inc 4g and the GNex.
I purchased both phones at the same time as I was curious on which would be better for my needs. I was a little on the fence about the Inc with it having a smaller screen than my current phone (Rezound). So I played with both over the weekend and the Inc 4g won me over hands down.
The GNex is a very nice phone, don't get me wrong, but the battery life is absolutely abysmal. I thought the Rezound had battery issues! The GNex had really bad signal as well. The Inc 4g had about 2 bars of signal and the GNex was telling me to connect to wifi sitting next to each other. So I played around with some kernels and different roms for the GNex to see if it would get any better on signal and battery life. Nothing helped in a serious manner. The amoled screen on the GNex is pretty nice as you dont get the washed out blacks like you do on an SLCD screen. But comparing the two screens next to each other, I preferred the Inc 4g as far as overall color and sharpness was concerned.
The lack of an SD card was a major drawback for me as well, by the time I copied my music over to the GNex my left over space was very limited. The dev community on the GNex is huge though. If you're a flashaholic...the GNex is for you. If you want your phone to last a full day and then some...get an Inc 4g.
Would also like to point out that the speed tests I ran on a 4g connection, the Inc 4g won on every test. Usually by 5Mbps on the download and 2Mbps on the upload. This was consistent on every test.
Screen size is your other determining factor. If you prefer a large screen...GNex. The Inc 4g has a smaller screen but there are no issues with reading anything on it. It's very clear, so don't assume a smaller screen is a harder screen to read. I've found the larger the screen, the worse off the battery life is. GNex takes it to a whole new level on battery drain though. I have used many phones over the years and the GNex is the absolute worst on battery life I have ever seen. Even with an extended battery you more than likely will not last an entire day with moderate use.
As far as the Inc 4g, I really don't have any complaints. Its extremely responsive, no lag that I have noticed and the battery life is the best I've seen from a smartphone to date. There is only one thing that in my opinion could make this phone better...Amoled screen. But the only thing you'd gain is the pure blacks you just don't get with LCD technology.
Hope it helps a little. I like both phones very much. Really it comes down to screen size and what your willing to put up with from your battery.

depends on where you buy it...directly from vzw yes, but its still 40 for inc on letstalk...not sure what the best gnex deal is...and havent really seen any sgs3 deals (cuz it was preorder) just 199/249 from vzw

Good point there, you are absolutely right.
I haven't heard good things about the Nexus on Verizon. 2 of my coworkers has it. One with Verizon, he complained about it. Idk if the other is on Verizon
The galaxy nexus is horrid on Verizon... I had and the phone battery is the worst I have ever expierenced... Mind u I have had the thunderbolt and the original Razr... Yes nexus now has JB but soon we will too... Remember this phone just came out last week lol... Without any hacks and scripts this phone is crazy fast... Just imagine what will happen a few months from now and we could really hack into this thing and bring out its true power... Galaxy S3 is a power house don't get me wrong but people who talk on in looks like they talking on a Gameboy lol

My coworker has a JB nexus with 3 hrs screen on time. I've only heard people complain about battery life if they don't use custom roms. Also, it's sort of asking for poor battery life if you don't use system toggles. Does anybody have a fully modded nexus that can comment on the battery life? Or even with the extended battery?

I don't have either the Nexus, or the INC 4g, but I do have the OG INC, and I think what the guys said above should spell it out, pretty clear.
I actually went in a VZ store yesterday to ask the folks about some changes to my plan coming up, and while I was there I wanted to see what the INC 4g looked like compared to my OG INC, and maybe even the GS3.
Well, the INC 4g was the same size as my phone in an otterbox, so I figure it will be even slightly bigger, if I get it and will get an otterbox covering it. It was a little laggy though, but hell, the store model had so many dang icons on the top, with gps and everything going on, it didn't suprise me, guess the clerks have downloaded everything under the sun on that thing. I liked what I saw though, and sense 4.0 looked kind of refreshing, nice. The viewable screen is a little more than I currently have with the OG INC, which was cool.
Now, I was disappointed I couldn't actually lay my hands on a GS3, I wanted to compare the two, and they don't have one in the store, but yet you can preorder the damn thing, well that to me sucks.
However, I did see a Nexus, and my first reaction was,. WTF, that damn thing needs a saddle bag strapped on my waist to hold it, lol. I mean, I thought it was just too damn big, and if I've read the information on here right, the GS3 is even slightly bigger. Well that concluded my interview, I do not want a tablet for a phone, and that was the impression I got, so if you like em big, then you might just dig the GS3 or Nexus.
Funny though, I was listening to a sales rep, talking with some potential customers, and I don't consider myself to be an expert, but, this fool was talking about how in another two days the new Nexus was hitting the store, and I had to laugh at that. Also, he compared the Droid 2 to the INC 4g, as far as speeds and overall phone similarities, oh brother, these guys are really up to snuff on their products...

I just noticed after playing around a little, if you remove the tabs at the bottom of the app launcher you could fit 6 rows in there easily...
...there's a dev somewhere going "you don't know what the hell you are talking about, you have any idea what that involves?"

I learned a loooong time ago not to listen to reps in the store.

Haha indeed... I freaking love this phone... It's so fast and speedy and the battery has been great so far.. imagine how our device will be once nodded or JB is installed

I also pre-ordered a SG3 to keep my unlimited and have been thinking of (probably will) exchange for an Inc4g.
I've been reading alot of reviews of the Incredible 4g and SG3 and find it strange that the Inc4g is mostly described as a disappointment, under-powered and not much of an upgrade where the SG3 is mostly described has a flagship top-of-the-line phone. However when I look at the specs, they look "pretty much" the same.
CPU: Same CPU model, 1.2Ghz vs 1.5Ghz, I doubt 300Mhz is a noticable difference especially since you're probably running at a lower freq most of the time anyways
Screen: GS3 has slightly higher pixel density (306 vs 275)
Dimensions: GS3 is thinner but larger
Battery: GS3 has larger but as long as I can get through a day, whats the difference?
Skin: Sense vs TouchWiz, I think most people prefer Sense
Camera: Both 8MP, Inc has a F2.2 vs F2.6 lens, but GS3 may have a better chip?
Everything else, GPU, weight, etc, is almost exactly the same.
I would use the same argument to choose the Inc4g. People say the Inc4g isnt worth it because it is too much like the rezound. I say the SG3 isnt worth it because its too much like the Inc4g and I dont want to give up the ability to use my phone with one hand or fit it in my pocket. If they were both 4in, I might go for the GS3 since its thinner and slightly higher speced, but it doesnt seem worth it.
I walked around to verizon, sprint, tmobile to compare. I hope that verizon finally has a SG3 now so I can compare them in the store side by side.
First time posting on XDA, been watching and learning for a long time...
I was in the same boat as the op, until this morning at my local VZW Corp store. First, I love my Rezound, the screen is top notch, accurate color representation. With an art and photography background, this is number 1 thing I look at and require, a great screen. But because of the hype, I had to check out the SG3 to see for myself. Talk about major letdown. Dim, dim ,dim screen is all I can say. Google home page is white, not gray like I saw this morning. The LG models looked crisper sitting next to it. And brightness was at max. Touch wiz is ok, too muddy and jumbled.
Next I looked at the Dinc4g, and man what a difference. No lag, great feel in hand, and a clean, crisp, bright screen. Really felt like the little brother to my Rezound, only snappier. If the Dinc4g had a screen in the 4.3 - 4.7 inch size, I would have left the store with one. Not a big dealbreaker, but would need more time to adjust to the size.
Ram size, proc speed really is not an issue, unless you are doing video editing, photo editing, etc in which case that is what a desktop is for. I personally like the Dinc4g for its clean UI, snappy feel, build quality, and clean/bright screen. May end up getting it to replace my old dx the wife uses.

Yeah, the screen size is definitely smaller, but really I don't even notice it until I hit websites in desktop mode. But the pinch/zoom fixes that up nicely. Overall I wouldn't be happier with any other phone. The battery life is amazing on the Inc 4g. I honesty don't know how they did it...it's just...remarkable.
Really? Dim? I did not notice any difference in the displays. Ofcourse I had to look at the SG3 in a sprint or tmobile, then goto a verizon to look at the Inc4g so I never saw them side by side.
I'm thinking the two phones are pretty much equal. If you prefer a larger phone, the the SG3, if you prefer a smaller one, then the Inc4g.

Agree, 2 phones are equal, comes down to UI and size.
Regards to dim screen, next to my Rezound and Dinc4g in store, yes sg3 not nearly as bright. The whites were not white. There is an article also confirming screen illumination. Sorry, can't post a link yet. Not nit picking, all a matter of personal preference. Still both are good devices and no matter which one folks go with, they will be more than pleased with the experience.

I'm quoting these parts of these two posts in particular because I feel like we need to start seeing that sentiment expressed more often. The way people on the internet seem to talk about this phone versus the GS3 is ridiculous. They make it seem like they're two totally different phones and the SGS3 is so ultimately superior in every way, when they have the same operating system, the same chipset (with the Incredible underclocked by 0.3 GHz which only serves to extend battery life and is not noticeable in everyday tasks, not to mention the fact that it can easily be overclocked to its original 1.5 GHz), and roughly equivalent-performance battery capacities when you take into account the SGS3's dramatically larger screen. This phone has been panned in multiple reviews I've read about being "stuck in the past" or "not up to the standards expected at the $200 price tag today" but the only phones out right now at the $200 price level in the same class as this phone are the SGS3 and HTC's own One series of phones, both of which have significantly larger screens. It all seems like Samsung's shelling out a lot of dollars to get major media outlets to make this phone look like a dinosaur when it just isn't.
(Also, one review called this phone "too thick and bulky"--seriously? I'm not really interested in carrying around a sheet of window glass. This phone's thickness will do just fine.)

If I recall, most phones run at a lower frequency to save power and only jump up to the max speed when you need it (launching an app, games, etc) so they may literally be running the same speed most of the time. As for the battery life, I haven't been able to find a review of both phones where they used the exact same technique to measure battery life so I have no idea how much of a difference it is. I assumed that the GS3 is better because its larger. Yes the screen is larger, but it is probably also off a majority of the time. HTC claimed that the processor was "totally different" when the phone was originally announced, but it has since been confirmed that the Incredible 4G has an MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 chipset inside, which is the same chipset as the one clocked at 1.5 GHz in the SGS3 and other phones. Obviously, we will know better once the development on this phone moves forward how stable this phone is at 1.5 GHz, but since there is no record of a 1.2 GHz MSM8960 being produced by anyone, the assumption (and the repeated statement in many reviews/articles about this phone) is that it is an underclocked processor.
The GS3 has a 2200 mAh battery versus the Incredible's 1700 mAh battery, which would be a big difference if the two phones were comparable, but due to the GS3's higher clock and bigger screen, the difference is much less pronounced. The GS3 probably does have better battery life in real-world usage than the Incredible 4G, since, as you say, the screen is off most of the time, but the difference is not as pronounced as some reviews may lead you to believe. A 4.8" screen has to light up significantly more area than a 4.0" screen, and given that these phones are a lot more efficient CPU-wise than previous generations thanks to the S4, the screen is now by far the biggest pull on the battery (62-80% on my Inc 4G depending on how many voice calls I make).
The only benefit to a thin phone for me is that you can put a bulkier case on it without worry of the phone getting too thick. I don't really like how overly thin mobile devices feel in hand, especially phones--I like my palm to be able to rest comfortably on the back of the phone while holding it one-handed without my fingers awkwardly hanging off the side, which requires a bit more bulk.
Im sure this has been asked a lot, but there are some things I cant seem to find.
My major concerns are of course, the non expandable storage space, and the non removable battery.
The DNA is advertised to have 16 gigs of storage space. Is this the free space available out of the box? Or does the os use some of this space.
As for the battery, i do mostly texting and web browsing, some videos. Im usually driving or at my desk so it will likely be plugged in most of the time. This isnt a huge concern, but still a small issue.
If you have this phone, what dont you like about it?

A quick addition, for those who have had htc devices for a while, how are they with software updates? Coming from motorola, whos horrible, it would he nice to have a phone that gets updated accordingly.

Out of the you'll have just a little over 11gb of storage to play with. As for battery life the DNA has surprised many by lasting most pretty much all day. Of course it depends how heavy you use it? You'll be more than fine with battery life with what you mentioned.
The DNA beats out the gs 3 in every way, except for the expandable storage. Once you debloat the phone you get more than 11 gigs. The battery is very good especially with cubed kernel

I actually just got my s3 back from repairs and I plan to do a comparison video before selling it.
The DNA beats the gs3 in every way except for storage and some touchwiz features(palm screenshot, eye following, etc)

i've got both, and i do love both.
i've always been an HTC man, from the eris, Inc, to the Rezound, and now a DNA. i've got a galaxy nexus, and an S3 as well.
the S3 has a great camera that right out of the box, point and shoot, looks amazing. with the DNA, as i found with most HTC devices, you have to do a little fine tuning to get pictures to come out well. the LED flash on the S3 is also much brighter than the DNA, which makes better flash-lowlight pics on the S3.
the S3, like all other samsung androids, doesn't have the best of service unfortunately. the nexus had bad service and would never pickup 4g, whereas my rezound had great service and would grab 4g no problem. i was in a new 4g area, so that could explain it, but the rezound would get it more often. the S3 picked up 4g much better than the nexus, but it's GPS antenna was AWFUL. my S3 would never lock on for me if i was inside any building, or hell, even a car. it was really bad...compared to my Nexus 7 which is INSTANT lock, and my DNA/Rezound which both locked really quick as well.
the call reception on the S3 was good, and sounded good, but the DNA def. beats it out. people say it sounds like i'm calling from a landline, thats how clear the DNA is.
in terms of battery life, my S3 would average around 14 hours with maybe 2 hours screen on time. when idling over night, i've gotten as much as 32 hours out of it before. the DNA, so far, seems to be almost identical. i pulled it off the charger at 5am this morning because i saw it was full, went back to sleep, and got up at like 10:30. it only dropped to 98% idling for 5 hours. considering the fact i have so much stuff synicng all the time and i was on 4G all night, that's pretty damn good!
the screen on the DNA is just amazing. the viewing angles are insanely good, and the screen is so close to the glass so it looks just amazing. the S3 has a great screen as well, although a bit more on the warm side and oversaturated sicne it's a super AMOLED.
the DNA has an amazing build quality factor here. HTC used like rounded off glass for the screen just like the S3, so your hand just glides over the edge. it doesn't have those horrible sharp corners old HTC phones had, like the rezound, where gunk and dust would get stuck in the gap and look horrible, and even worse, get dust under teh screen.
overall, the size of the DNA is fine. yeah, it's bigger than the S3 and def. feels it, but i can still do almost everything one handed on it. the S3 may seem a little bit quicker at first, which i simply attribute to touchwiz compared to sense, but overall, the DNA feels smoother.
i'm fortunate enough to be able to have all of these phones and keep them all. i'm loving the DNA, and i'll always have my galaxy nexus and S3 to switch between!
First let me say that I just came from a Samsung fasinate. I used it for two years stock and then rooted for two months. The GUI that Samsung uses is more intuitive IMO. And once rooted, opened my eyes to the plethera of settings/customization that can be done with a rooted phone. The options you get to p lay with on a stock DNA are limited. In fact some of the coolest features that JB has to offer are over written by HTC sence. I have had this phone since the day b4 thanksgiving, and it is way fast. The Screen is huge and beautiful. It is a great phone that will be better once I root it.

I would just like to add my battery life on my DNA to compare to your 2hr/14hr on the s3. And note this is with playing at least an hour of games, and that killed my battery.

Firstly, battery life isn't a problem. It's not going to win any awards, but I'd honestly say it's above average for a smartphone. It'll get you through the day for sure. I wish it were removable, but it's not a dealbreaker by any means. Lack of storage space could either be a huge issue or a non-issue if you (like me) stream most of your media.
Build quality is top notch. This thing looks futuristic and feels great in the hand. It doesn't feel like a 5" phone at all. It's certainly big, but it's so thin and the taper so aggressive that it doesn't feel overwhelming. I can reach the whole screen with my thumb if I adjust how I hold it slightly. The DNA feels very similarly in size to the S3, although the latter is definitely more plasticky and cheap-feeling IMO. I'm not a fan of Samsung's glossy plastics and never have been, despite having purchased several of their products.
Coming from the Epic 4g (the original slider version, not the Touch), and playing around with my dad's S3, I find myself actually enjoying Sense. This is the first Sense phone I've bought and I much prefer it to Touchwiz, which I find garish and clunky. I had to root my Epic just to make it usable in many regards (awful battery life, lag, and FCs out of the box, all of which were handily fixed thanks to SyndicateRomFrozen). In contrast, the DNA has rock solid performance, and Sense adds some details I really like. I'd prefer AOSP, of course - but unlike my Epic, which needed some serious fixes right out of the box, I don't feel as strong of a need to root my DNA. I think I'll actually be ok with keeping it stock for awhile - that's how much I like Sense.

I have to say HTC has an AMAZING way to make sure their devices (including DNA) consume as little battery as possible during idle. Which is one of the best stuff I valued.
After HTC DNA, 1% per hour in idle is no long acceptable. 1% per 3 hours seems normal in idle mode.

lol apparently you were a release day Rezound user when it came to battery life. On my S3 I averaged around 3.5 hours screen on time w/ no WiFi, all verizon data, unlike some of the screenshots we're seeing in this thread.
Would really like to try a DNA but so far liking the compact factor of the Razr M. The one thing, as mentioned that has always bugged me about Sammy vs. HTC or Moto are the radios. My Rezound had the best down speeds I've ever seen. And I've been rocking 4G since they implemented it here in Chicago. My Sammy's have always had so so radios. But my S3 had a great 4G radio and so so 3G radio/connection. And then Moto throws me for a loop and has terrible reception with the M. That's the one flaw of the M IMHO. If I didn't live in strong 4G I couldn't own this phone.
But since we're on the battery topic I think we're gonna start seeing the law of diminishing returns. Hardware wise and software wise there isn't much left for the "smartphone" of today. Battery tech is what really needs a push in research and development. Funny how hot phones are hampered by batteries and hot cars/bikes hampered by fuel.
I'm using the dna as my daily driver and will be for a long long time.

You never owned a Thunderbolt then. That thing could blow through a battery like no other! Barely got better and the device never saw the ICS update that was promised. There was a leak via Bamf, but that was a battery killer in my usage too. Can't blame HTC/VZW, why support a dead device when you can sell a new one?
On a good note, the DNA I bought on 9 Dec has kick ass battery life for how I use it. I haven't had much time to do gaming on it.
I came from an GS3, I prefer the DNA. One of the most annoying things about the GS3 (to me) was the hard key would wake the device. My phone is always in my pocket at work and I'd constantly find it on doing something. Erg.
As far as the storage goes; I've loaded the music that I listen to most and have all my apps/ other crap installed and still have 7.6 gigs left. I doubt I'd fill that up. With my GS3, I had the 16 gig model with another 16 gig card, I didn't even come close to maxing that out.
I just recently sold my verizon SGS3 and now I'm a happy DNA owner. Battery life is better on DNA. There is only one thing I miss having and that is CM10.
I'd kill for CM10 on DNA.

thats funny, i acutally loved the hard home key waking it up..i keep finding myself trying to hit a home key on my DNA lol. the power button is kinda hard to press on the DNA, thats my only complaint really..and that weird screen fadeout post-picture gallery issue i get. but i feel thats software and not hardware, i hope..

In all honesty, I don't like having a security lock screen setup on my android devices. It drove me nuts, I'd pull the Sammy out and it would be taking a picture or trying to open a webpage/facebook, etc... BUT, I did like that it took all of 30 minutes to root/s-off/unlock and load a Rom. The 3G/4G hand off was a bit harsh on the ones I tried. It was a good phone, but didn't work well for me at work.
All being equal, I've been an HTC guy for years. I was sad that there was no OneX VZW variant. I think the DNA makes up for that in spades.
