I'm running into the same problem. Were you trying to buy a song or get one of the free ones? I was trying a free one (I'm cheap ) and received the error. I also tried clearing data and cache, but no luck.
I tried both free and paid, looking for anyone that has a solution please...

Looks like it's not just our phones either. May want to subscribe to that thread.
I got this working.
I went to the website for the Google Music store and "bought" one of the free songs. I was prompted to accept terms of service and log back into my account. After purchasing the song I went back into the Market and tried purchasing another free song and it was working perfectly.
Both songs produced a notification from my Music app saying they were added to my library.
Did you have to download the PC manager first because I tried to do it online first which is still the Android market online but nothing. I'm at work so I'm unable to download the PC download manager. Maybe that is the key?

I do have it installed at home. I'm also unable to install it here at work and that's where I did the online purchase from. It did give me a message saying the songs were downloadable anytime, so maybe having the PC Manager set up (somewhere) with your music account is the key.

Has anyone else tried to purchase music from the Android Market (the new version of the app, not the website) and got a message saying "Error retrieving information from server"? I've tried this on Pool Party 1.6 on the Fascinate, and on MIUI 11/18 on my wifi-only Captivate. I already tried clearing app data and cache, to no avail. If anyone knows how to fix this issue, your help would be greatly appreciated.
Has anyone seen John Connor?
I got this too, but later realized it was because my credit card info was expired and i forgot to update.

My info is current, as the web version does allow me to make purchases, only the app doesn't.
Has anyone seen John Connor?
I'm getting the exact same error when trying to purchase music from the market app. I can purchase apps just fine but not music. I was hoping the new market app that came out a couple of days ago would help but no luck. Like you, I've tried clearing app data and cache. I also tried uninstalling the Music app, removing the authorization for the phone in Music Manager, reinstalling and setting everything back up but that didn't help either.
Has anyone tried using it on their NT? My build.prop is of a Nexus S so I grabbed it right off the Market, but I can't get past the login due to a message warning about data usage.
Has anyone else had luck? I grabbed version 0.4.12.180
Hi rjin9637!
I installed the Spotify app from the website. I have not had any problems with it so far. I went to spotify.com and selected the mobile app. I also selected manual download from the built-in browser. I chose "android 1.6+" as my device. hope this helps

Thanks, I'll give that a try!
unrelated question:
you need spotify premium to use the app right? that's how i understood it at least...
i have it on my NT and its awesome, and very loud! I was a beta tester so i dont know if that has any effect but im not a premium user
I believe premium service is needed as correct. I already had premium service prior to sideloading the app. Can someone confirm non-paid users can access Spotify via facebook login?
like i said i am NOT a premium user and I use it all the time I got 487 songs starred lol....but again, maybe its cuz I beta tested the program (even though I was never told Id have premium or anything else).
Spotify
I just rooted my NT.
I tried installing the Spotify app from the Google Play store but it wouldn't work.
I went to the Spotify website were it installed without a problem.
I am not a premium user.
Thanks for the info
I've searched for days whether anyone else had experienced this problem regarding play store but couldn't find proper solution!
The problem is, whenever i download large apps from play store (say, 50+ MB), the download suddenly stops. the play store app says its downloading but not a single byte is being downloaded. And the other problem is, i cannot resume downloads. What can i do to fix it?
I thought this would have occurred coz of flashing excessive ROMs so i flashed back to stock but even this didn't solve this problem! this is very frustrating as i am trying to download an app ( of about 800+ MB) for days but couldn't finish downloading it! any suggestion would be appreciable! T

What Device are you on? Are you trying to Download over WiFi, or Network? If it's over WiFi , have you checked your settings? Does it happen on all Roms?

Menu-Settings-WiFi-Menu-Advanced. Make sure it's not set to time out after a while. Also make sure that you actually are connecting to the router, with permission. I know that my router here at home you connect to it, and see it. But you cannot actually use it till you enter the password.

Yea i do. The app downloads but stops downloading after certain time. It gets stuck ( let's say at 70%)
The "downloading" notification on the notification bar also gets stuck. I have to restart my phone to remove it.
P.S. Sorry for late reply.

If the available space in the folder /cache on your phone storage is smaller than 50MB, then you can't download apps larger than 50MB coz /cache is the place to save temporary app files you download from google play. But you can try Java-based Real APK Leecher on your PC to download large apks directly from the store.
Are you on the latest version of the Play Store?

I guess this is my problem. Coz my phone storage is low; which means /cache is of low storage too right??
Edit: is there any way i can download apps straight from play store to my sd card without using play store.??

That's the point. The most important defect of android is that the manufacturers paid too much attention on how to adapt the OS for various devices and ignored the actual user experience. As for your question, I searched around and get no answer.
Yet I can give you two suggestions:
1. Download apps from some third-party app download sites which allow you to get apks and bypass play store.
http://www.tipsotricks.com/2012/07/top-10-sites-to-download-free-android-apps.html
Pick up one in this link.
2. Repartition your phone storage. I'm not sure about how to do it coz I haven't tried that before. But I know there are many idle space in other partition like /system which you will never use. So, distribute them wisely.
Good luck!

You're welcome.
You can download not only the apks, but the client of those third-party markets. For instance, here's a link introducing 1mobile.com's client: http://www.1mobile.com/app/market/?cid=9
Directly download link: http://f.1mobile.com/mobile_software/channel/1MobileMarket_c.apk
It's similar to play store and may notify you if there's an update of one of your installed apps. Try app clients made by various websites repeatedly to find out the best.
Also, try some android PC suites which let you to update android apps via PC.

Why don't you download your apps directly via play store? And is it a problem to simply reboot your phone? Anyway, as far as I know, this is the way google works, no matter which phone or which android Version you are using, you will have to reboot your phone to download the apps.

Nope, that's not the way Google works, whenever i choose something on my pc it gets automatically downloaded when i connect my phone to the internet, no issues.
Maybe you can check if you got the Play-service running in the background or not. It usually runs directly after a reboot, that's why the downloads come through, but maybe it gets killed by a taskkiller or something like that.
How can I download apps from Google Play as apk files? I use custom ROM on my mobile phone, so I can not login into Play, so it is very important for me.
You can obviously only download free apps since you can't log in, but here's just one method that Google turned up...

A custom ROM shouldn't stop you from accessing the Play Store.
You should have been directed to install a GAPPs zip if it didn't have them in the ROM package.
Far fewer people would use custom ROMs if you couldn't do this.
Just use a third party site like apk mania or something. Only legal stuff of course

I think you have entered the android ID wrong
Android Device ID,
there are a couple of options available to
you. If you’re using a phone, bring up
your dialer and call *#*#8255#*#* . Scroll
down through the data that is shown and
beneath the JID entry which lists your
email address, you’ll find your Device ID
in hexadecimal format.Enter
the 16 characters that appear after
‘android-‘
It works.
