If I try a rom not for my phone and then nandroid restore, will it restrore my old kernel as well? Or will I be stuck with the wrong kernel for my phone. I dont want to be stuck with non working hardware keys or something crazy.

Yes it restores everything including the kernel.

Anyone know if I can restore a CWR backup after changing the bootloader and kernel? I went to a GB Rom and now I want to go back to my Bionix backup. Both are Voodoo Ext4.
Since over 9000 people have said, reported, experienced that the boot loaders are backward compatible. You will be fine. Enjoy you more convenient button combos.

I'm more worried about the kernal difference and CWM backup. I guess I could always re flash the original kernal if it loops.

Im rather curious if the Nandroid backup contains the bootloaders as well.

I thought about this and it seemed a bit rash. Although it would be the most thorough and probably yield results most like the original settings.

nandroid doesn't touch bootloaders, kernel or modem for vibrants. (i don't think nanadroid touches anyone's bootloader tbh)
I have problem with twrp recovery.when i restore nandroid backup the restoration is complete without any problem but when i start the phone after starting screen phone goes to recovery mode.this is happen in all backup of different rom.
This is also happening to me. It gets really frustrating because I have to start from scratch once that happens.

So there is no solution for this problem?
Could a flashed modem be responsible for why my phone dies when its been on a lock screen for a while or will it be the rom.?

Most probably it's the ROM.
I think that something in the ROM it's the guilty, maybe if you try fix permissions
Why not back up with Titanium, do a CWM backup and try flashing a new ROM? You would be able to go straight back if you wanted by restoring the CWM backup.
Thanks guys in the end I went with a restore from an earlier backup works OK probably the from.

I had the same issue, backup would hang, I tried internal and the real SD card backups. all hung around 98%
I ended up flashing another modem down from LC5 (kk6 i think) and backup worked, then it stopped working again. My thought is it was a false positive. I ended up flashing another kernel version and I could then backup via CWM.
So give that a whirl.
Sounds like it should work ill get to it when I'm near a computer thanks!

I've been flashing ROMs for a friend and, obviously, nandroid backing up whenever I do something. However, whenever I try to restore it gives an error. Upon checking why, it is because the backups I make only backup the boot.img.
Is there a recovery that works properly?

As far as I know, nandroids only back up system. Maybe this changed in 2012 idk, but are you sure you're doing it right

I'm booting into CWM recovery and choosing backup. All other phones I do this on backs up everything. Restoring puts your phone exactly how it was. I've been flashing ROMs for years so I have no idea why it only backs up boot.img.

Do you have more than one back-up at the same place? If so it happened to me before when i do more than one back-up: it messes them up.
