More than likely, your are trying to restore a system app (one of the original system apps from Moto...) The only way that I have ever been able to recover from a problem like this is to restore a nandroid backup... Your did do a nandroid backup BEFORE you went messing with the system, right???
If not, SBF is the only way out of your situation. If you haven't done either before, I have written a couple of tutorials: HowTo: Perform a SBF ("factory restore") of your Motorola Droid X2 and HowTo: Perform a bootstrap (or nandroid) backup and recovery of your Droid X2.
Remember, ask LOTS and LOTS of questions.
Ciao!

Ya I did actually end up restoring a nandroid....just....so tibu essentially just for user app backups....thanks for the info though...now I can stop thinking about how to fix it! Lol! Oh and fyi don't freeze/remove email engine, then you can't add events to your Google calendar....lol however they are related I have no idea...lol

[Q] Backing up/ restoring across roms.

Can I switch between CM7 and Eclipse to try Eclipse out? Or do I have to sbf back to 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 to switch? Also, do I share my data across the roms, or do I have to partition my sd-card?
Eclipse is supposed to be run on 2.3.5 but some have reported success flashing over 2.3.4. You can always try it and see. Just make a nandroid backup first.
Also, you can use Titanium Backup to back up your apps and data.

Really now? If you can confirm this, I will love you forever!
Titanium Backup is arguably the best backup app on the market. I used to use MyBackup Pro as it would allow you store backups on your sd card AND online but I realized I didnt really need the online storage (one more way for something to be stolen from me
I definately wouldnt try flashing different-kernal roms over one another simply because one could give themselves one big of a headache...sbf to 2.3.4, flash Eclipse, something blows up, sbf again...lots of time and strain.
But then again, significant discoveries often involve lots of stress and strain so if you have the time and resources, go for it man.

[Q] What to change for google play store to auto-download apps from previous rom?

I'm using the PKMN Rom right now. When a new version comes out, I would like for it to auto-download the apps from the play store that I used to have. Is there something I have to change in the new rom to do that? A build.prop edit? Thanks in advance.
Titanium backup is your friend.
I came across a file
In the Rom zip try deleting sq-lopt
It's in /system/ect/init.d/
This would require a reflash tho
Joel could correct me if I'm wrong

Yeah, I have TiBu. But, it'd be nice if it auto-downloads after registering my g-account. Just wondering if it was a little mod I could do myself. That's all.

Thanks SCP! I will try this on the next PKMN update.
I've never gotten my Rezound to restore its apps or its wifi networks. I've also noticed that after a wipe, during the setup process, its asks you if you want to keep your device's networks and settings backed up with Google, but does not give you the option to restore your phone from Google like my Eris and my Transformers do... Has HTC just omitted this functionality??
Gingerbread did that for me but not ics. But I don't mind. Don't like it to auto download anyway.

I don't really think it's a good idea to restore from TB.
Although I paid for TB last year, I don't even bother installing it anymore.
When I flash a new rom I find it is MUCH better to reinstall an app from an APk than to restore it. I now use AppMonster Pro to save the APK from all the apps i use to a folder on my card and then clean install them on the new rom.....
The only times I have had it auto download was by signing into google during setup wizard.

Hm, I had a totally different experience. I had about 220 user apps installed. I did a batch backup with Ti Backup, and then a batch restore with data. I think there were seriously one or two apps that I had trouble with. I just wiped the data on those apps and set them up manually.
I guess I don't really see what the fuss is. Now I tend to just install apps from the Market so I get the latest version, and restore data on the few apps that I require lengthy setup.
I also tend to keep archives of my Ti Backup folders, because there are some times I need to go back to an old version of an app because of some crappy update.
I've done batch restore with data with Ti Backup with 200+ apps multiple times with virtually no issues. Some examples of apps I try to install clean are LBE Privacy Guard and Busybox Installer.
Maybe people are restoring system apps?
I always restore lots of different data and apps with tb and have no problem... Just don't restore something in red on system apps lol

[Q] Cannot defrost bloatware

I uninstalled the app(AntTek App Manager) that I froze my bloatware with. After I realized what I uninstalled I put the app back on my phone and now the bloatware is not listed as frozen. I cannot find a way to uninstall the bloatware and restore the backups. Would a factory reset defrost or restore the bloatware, or should I used the Droid RAZR Utility to restore back to stock? If I go with the utility would it be best to remove superuser and unroot before restoring back? I want to be ready for the OTA ICS update whenever it comes. Sorry this is all new to me and I've been searching for a few days, but not coming up with an exact answer. Thanks for looking.
Droid RAZR
Stock 2.3.6
V. 6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US
You need to post this in your phone forum as I could not understand the first lines. I think you need not remove superuser and root before factory resetting.

titanium restore to a new phone not working

I have a Motorola Photon with a cracked screen. Sprint insurance sent me a replacement Photon.
I'm trying to use Titanium to do a complete backup of the broken phone to restore to the new phone. Old phone backed-up (system and user apps) elements are around 580, but when attempting to restore to new phone, it only sees about 220.
The TB wiki doesn't offer any help.
Please, someone with knowledge help me out as I need to get this busted phone shipped back soon.
Thanks in advance.
Make sure your filters are set correctly and the new phone is rooted.

Using titanium with system apps can be problematic. Try doing just user apps.

I just did this because I had to wipe my phone (don't ask).
1. Root (the AIO root worked for me--I was on 2.3.4).
2. Install Titanium Backup.
3. Put the SD card in if it isn't already--the one with your backups).
4. Restore only the user apps and data.
Should get you back where you were before--it did for me, except because I installed this de-bloated ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1648297 ), GO Launcher noticed a couple of missing widgets (from the stock ROM when I backed-up the data for GO) when I restored it. I'm just in the process of replacing them with the market equivalents.
I'm a total nub to the Photon, but had done a lot with the Epic 4G. Some terminology differences to go through. PM me if I can help.

Titanium Backup question

Ok, I'm rooted and backing up like crazy. But I was wondering if you could batch backup selected apps, like games? Things that you would want to restore data to. Or even select what apps to restore data to when restoring from a batch backup of all apps? Otherwise the only way would be to is to individually backup the ones you want to data for.
Thank you

think i've figured out a method of attack
ok, my plan.
Back up all the apps i think i need to back up for whatever reason.
Then do a back up of everything in one batch file, that way I have something to go back to the original way. hopefully won't have to.
Install a rom, and go about intalling what i want from the backups. think there may be some i won't need to install from the back up, can just do it from the play store.
guess i'll find out.
solved
just tried the batch back up. i see you can select the apps and stuff you want to back up. got it now.
Just remember to never restore system apps from one ROM to another. Batch backup on Titanium is only available on the Pro version, I believe. I bought it so long ago, hard to remember "not" restoring /backing up in batches!

Yes, batch is only in the pro version. Are the system apps displayed in red, or what color? also, when backing up the stock rom, what partitions should I select? I saw Ohmster said in his guide, when backing up the rom you install to not select the webtop and cache. I selected all of them, android secure(i think), cache, data, webtop, and there was another (5 partitions all together). And I forgot to enable compression. Plan on doing it again later tonight before I flash a rom.
Thank you
System apps are displayed in red on TiBu. When I plan on using a new ROM, I go to TiBu and do a "backup all user apps and system data".
Then I boot to safestrap recovery, and back up the entire ROM. Everything. If I don't have room, I delete older backups, as I have them on PC. Then I either make a new slot or wipe current one to install new ROM. After new ROM boots, I use TiBu to batch restore apps with out data first, then apps with data. Not all apps need data restored, such as Internet based games like words with friends. I just reinstall that, and fix my preferences from the app.
Then I use TiBu to batch move apps to SD card.
Titanium Backup on Lollipop
It seems like TB 6.1.5.6 can't get root right on Android L. I have no problem with KK. Anyone have got this problem like me?

Titanium Backup on Lollipop
Okay. I've flashed the newest version of SuperSU. But your Titanium version needs to be >= 6.2 to work properly on Lollipop (CyanogenMod Unof 01-24).
