[Q] Wifi hack at work - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, they have addded another wlreless connction at work. They have now heavily restricted what we can acesss.
I have been searching all over and not really getting anywhere. Is there a WEP android hack thingy for our phones. I can acess XDA at work if I can get in on the second connection (managers wifi and of course I work for a living not like them so we get screwed LOL). I can not really run a laptop on the shop floor so that way is out.
Thanks.
Not sure if this violates any TOS cause I never read that but please remove this post if it does.
Rooted GB x10 wolf 6 rom

Router keygen and penetrate, both are paid apps, and wifi kill if you want the wifi only for you. Cant post warez.

Penetrate gives you the wireless keys of Thomson, Discus, Infinitum, BBox, DMax, Orange, SpeedTouch,DLink,Eircom,BigPond,O2Wireless routers. if it is one of theese you can rely on penetrate

Sorry it took so long to get back, thanks anyways but those programs do not seem to work on Canadian routers like dlink and stuff. O well
Thanks

Any way to encrypt signal (even really simply)?
I know when I go to this convention next week all the bored people are going to steal my bandwidth (VZW dialup is not fast enough for anyone but me).
I am pretty sure there was a way to configure WEP, tho I have only gotten WMWifiRouter to work one time. And it was because there were no other AP's in the area. For some reason if I am in an area where there is an AP but it's secured, my phone keeps prompting me to connect to it, and if I dismiss the message, it never properly initializes where any other device can connect to it.
No errors show up on the screen, it just doesn't show up as an available wireless AdHoc network. I've tried running the latest trial version, and the version that is in DCD's kitchen, same problem on both.
Maybe I'm just not smart enough to figure it out, or maybe my brother's PDA and my Ipod just aren't compatible with it. I got it to work 1 time, and it was with my laptop.

Another Touch Pro Tethering Thread

Hey all... just picked up the Touch Pro the other day and was a little disheartened to see that the tethering functions can be a little troublesome.
In the past, I've used USBModem on a Treo 700p and it worked beautifully via BlueTooth with my Nokia N800. I typically don't use the devices with a laptop/desktop, as it is most often something I'll make use of when I'm out... otherwise, the standard PDANet solutions would be fine.
Soooo... questions are: have their been any solutions figured out by others who may be using a Nokia N800/N810 to tether to, or is the only current option to use the WMWifiRouter software? Even using the registry changes mentioned in other threads, I have had no luck having the Nokia find the Touch Pro - well... it does, but it sees it as being a GSM device, which I haven't figured out either. If the WMWiFiRouter is the only real option, is it known if that software takes any steps to "mask usage" or will I be dealing with Sprint wanting me to get the "phone as modem" package - additionally, if that would be a problem, could the registry modifications help with that?
Any info provided is greatly appreciated. It's the only thing that keeps it from mopping the floor with my previous machine!
//edit: I failed to mention that I am with Sprint, and the USBModem site clearly states that it does not work via BlueTooth with the Sprint service - I don't know if I've done the registry edit and tried USBModem (I don't believe so, but I've tried a fair number of combos and off the wall ideas so far, so I dunno!)
As far as I can tell, the WMWifiRouter does not let Sprint know that you are tethering since in the technical sense of the word, you are not. Pulling the 3G signal down and broadcasting it as wifi is not tethering. Just try not to use gigabytes of bandwidth every month and you should be fine.
Also, WMWifiRouter is the only solution I've found for my Touch Pro (also on Sprint) that actually works. My tethering hacks always failed after 30 seconds or so, and there seemed to be no other solutions out there besides this piece of software.
You make a good point in that it's not tethering in the sense of the word. I suppose I could also rephrase the question to ask if they can spot the activity and, if so, how easily, but it may be beating a dead horse. I did find it to be a reasonable solution outside of it being a bit of a battery drain. I don't use such functions very often at all, and as such have never brought attention to any minor tethering I've done in the past. Hopefully it will stay that way and I won't see a whack of charges on my bill. Cheers!

How often are you "Tethering" anyway? I honestly don't have any problems using my phone as a modem with the reg edits to modify the connection from "ForceConnection" to "Sprint PCS" and it works great.
I'm not a dedicated "Tetherer" and use it occasionally but have never seen any problems using the Internet Sharing app and the reg edit.
I use it very rarely (at least I think I do)... maybe once or twice every couple of weeks, and I don't use it to download things from the web and whatnot. Typically, I'll access a few sites and that's about it - very limited.
The only problem I ran into with the reg edits was that my Nokia N800 wasn't picking it up via Bluetooth. Using this method, I can just connect to the wireless broadcast.
Hmm, well I usually use the USB cord with mine but I did us the BT DUN on to tether using a MAC and it worked just fine.
Check your IM
i invested in PDAnet back when i got my Moto q and have never been happier. I get great speeds. download at 300kb/s at times. Their newest version includes options for WiFi setup as well. Definately worth the money IMO.

Would you be willing to do a test with PDANet and the ICS program on our phones?
I'd like to see a comparison of DL speeds fron the same location of PDANet vs. ICS. I have the ICS cab if you are not running it right now if you like.
PDANet would work fine if I were to tether to a desktop or laptop. Problem is, I am almost never in a situation where I need such a thing. If I use it, it's via bluetooth with my Nokia N800 (since it does not support USB hosting of such devices as 'USB modems'). Bluetooth connectivity with both PDANet and USBModem is nil, with USBModem saying that it won't work with Sprint on their page.
I have found that the latest version of WMWiFiRouter (version 1.25 as of writing) works beautifully and I get reasonably speeds with it... since it's an ad-hoc wifi access point, the Nokia likes it. Problem seems to be solved and very reasonable.

WiFi on Biwinning is REALLY weird?

Ok, so recently, in Texas there's a thing going called BYOD Bring your own device, its when you can just use your smartphone/laptop/tablet in class for "educational" purposes when the teacher allows it.
To support that, my school has added WiFi for students to use.
The wifi had no protection before, but now people outside of school have been taking advantage of it... so they added a WP2k (or something likethat) lock to it.
They've told us that the password would be our birthdate
so mine would be 090119**
EVERYONE elses phones work, a few guys even have a Vibrant and they connect (their on stock) but mine NEVER does it.
I thought maybe it was my password? nope. I asked a friend to use his password on my phone, it didnt work.
I used my password on his phone, and it worked and connected.
So its a REALLY weird issue, and IDK how to solve it, should i reflash bi-winning, or perhaps get another ROM? I'm open to suggestions, Froyo only roms right now please, but mainly focus on my actual wifi problem, is it bi winning or am i doing something wrong?
Try Crazy 8, Simply Galaxy 2.8 or one of the new Froyo ROMs posted in the last couple days? Simply Galaxy 2.8 was always a favorite of mine... Everything was fast and battery was great.... Theming was nice too
Bi-Winning always did act weird on my phone. Figured it was just me.

My first thought is that it might be a compatibility issue with the encryption they are using. 2.2.1 roms are all ports on the Vibrant and a wifi fix has to be added to get the connection to work properly. I wouldn't be surprised if that is the issue. I have no idea how to fix it though...

Does no one else find it odd that a wifi network would have individualized WPA keys? I fear that I have missed something.
Hm, true. Maybe it's actually an open network with a gateway login. That's one way my school does it. Any additional info xriderx66?
Well guys, idk all that info ask me something specific, then maybe I can answer?
So far I think its my phone, I went to ultimate ROM, wifi problem persists.
The wifi is locked with WPA2k or something similar.
The way login works is..
First you login using bod on the wifi, then when you go to a website, it asks for login and pass that I have, then it connects, but I need the wifi to connect first.
I put my password, then it says disabled under that wifi, and another popup comes asking for password but this time it has (unchanged) in password blank

Can someone help?

I was just wondering if anyone has tried to change the wifi MAC address on the photon? And if not, do u guys know of any ways to do it on another phone that would work on the photon? Please help and thanks

why would you want to change it anyhow? banned from wifi? I know you can spoof them relatively easy from a command line in linux, if i recall MACs are pretty much hard coded to the adapter anyhow, are you unlocked and rooted? I dont see you getting far if you aren't at least rooted.

Hmm. You might want to test if your MAC address spoofing works at home. Basically, try a method to spoof a MAC address on your phone. Then connect to your router at home and in the router's config page (usually at 192.168.1.1) and see if the router is seeing the spoofed MAC address or the real one. That way you can tell for sure if it worked. Then try it at your school.
There might be a chance at your school that they have had to ban so many MAC addresses that they decided a whitelist is better and more effective. I went to a school that did this. If they did implement a whitelist, just find a whitelisted device (preferably one that's not used that often to prevent conflicts) and clone its MAC address.

Stay on 3g until wifi ready?

Please let me know if my first post ever belongs elsewhere... to a noob like me "Android general" sounds just as good as "Android development"
What: make Android greedier with 3g. Don't switch off of it until wifi is associated, has an ip, and can ping the internets i.e. the wifi icon is blue
What device: I have a rooted Atrix 2 with ICS leak ROM (build 67.21.125 by timmytim v1.2) on AT&T if that makes you happy. Is this relevant? Even GB does this
Why: a lot of wifi access points suck and it takes greater than zero time for the wifi icon to turn blue. During this time voice search won't work, browser won't do crap, etc because Android is greedy the wrong direction and has already routed all ip traffic through wifi which isn't ready yet
When: this is especially a problem when I'm walking across campus with less than perfect wifi coverage, or when I try to do something on the internet in my car outside right before heading to work (what did that email say?) where there's enough signal to associate but is poor enough to not get my phone access to the tubes (let me waste 30 seconds by switching off wifi to see...)
Why: because I want uninterrupted internet access and AT&T makes me pay for 2gb even when I only use 500meg
How? You tell me. I spent 15 seconds searching all 18 yottillian pages on the internet and nothing came up in the first three results on Google or here, therefore it doesn't exist. Maybe you know where I'm not looking? Maybe I can cross-compile iptables into my ROM and use/make an app for logic? Maybe I can buy 8 billion wireless access points and distribute them evenly across the globe and give people everywhere free internet like they deserve because it's 2012 not 2002? Maybe I can adjust my expectations?
In all seriousness I'm about to bake iptables into my ROM and make an app because I know that will work. But that will take a while, is another solution already out there?
