This doesn't fix the wifi issues, it just makes it so the wifi never sleeps and drains your battery. It would be more proper to call it a workaround than a fix.
Whatever you want to call it, I haven't had a single wi-fi issue since using it.

Hotspot is working with newest tether beta (5). This needs to be moved to General.
barnacle wifi works
Hot Spot Capability After Root
The only wifi tether app that works after root is wifi_tether_v3_1-beta5.apk. I can't remember where I found it but it's out there.

It doesn't work when you want to tether it to a Touchpad. The touchpad cannot detect the wifi connection coming from the phone.

This is because the touchpad can't see adhoc networks

apparently neither does ps3... which idk why it won't work with my photon when it was working with no additional apps or changed settings on my rooted evo 4g... but life goes on and we deal with stuff that just doesn't work... =\
Because the evo actually used infrastructure network with wireless tether

+1
Has to be implemented for the Photon. If you get mad and want to sell your Touchpad to me for $99 just let me know.
Rooted with One-click AIO MoPho root from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217416
Then downloaded latest (beta6) WiFi Tether from here:
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_1-beta6.apk
Changed the SSID but left everything else off (encryption, etc) to help with the speed. The work laptop anyway connects over VPN. Set up WiFi connection manually in work laptop (XP) as ad-hoc.
Worked like a champ! It's slow as hell ... but a champ! Let's hope it works a little better when on the road. I just need to show that I'm logged on (Sametime).

How do you set the Type to Net D. I get everything else but that. Thanks
Also if you are using an Android Tablet you can tether via Bluetooth rather easily.
For those who have gotten this to work with the TouchPad , what channel are you using? Thx

After you set the profile to Samsung Galaxy S, get back to the options menu and select "Change Setup-Method" (next one down) and then select "Netd (master)" and that should be it. Hope this works out for you.

Wifi has this weird issue where it wants to scan my home network even though its connected a million times to it. Almost like it forgets lol. I usually have to disable then enable it; not a big deal i guess but still a bug for sure!

fixes:
WIFI Intermittent
I'll have the Number tomorrow.
I have 3g and wifi both on and blue.

Mine does the same but after I wake the phone I have no problems. Maybe a 3 second delay reconnecting.

Release notes would be great. Photon WIFI/VPN is putting out extra packets which are then blocked by some routers. If the wireless router is used as a router and not an AP and IP6 is disabled, the problem seems to be corrected (i.e.: no reconnection failures in over a week when it used to happen every 2/3 days. See motorola photon forum for more details.)
My wifi seems to work pretty good at work and at home. I havent noticed the phone constantly scanning but I havent been looking for it either.
as of today my phone will not connect to wifi at all... release notes and date would be very much appreciated.

So...
Any confirmation on this update? I have to reboot to use my GPS pretty much every time. SG2 comes out Friday, I'm returning it if I can't get a solution.

Me either always works and works great, also pretty fast as well. My issue is the voice/3G radio locking up and then the phone reboots.
so it seems some are having a WIFI issue and others voice/3G... rather odd thing going on there.

Might want to check and see if that said the 19th, pretty sure you guys don't have any MR's this week.
I'm not sure if its just me but it is also happening to my girls EVO. But my gtalk doesn't work over WiFi. It shows me logging in and then shows my buddies like normal. However when I send a message the other person never gets it. But the message looks like it sent from my phone. I tested it with my girlfriend and her phone does the same exact thing. It only works properly on 3g. I am thinking it could be something with my router.

before thinking it's anything in your environment, try using another wifi connection and verify if that works for you. Do you have any firewall or AV app on your phone?
While on Wifi, does any other app not work properly ?

I can't test on any other WiFi currently. But at home my girls phone doesn't work using gtalk via WiFi either. Also its just gtalk no other app. I'm pretty sure it must be my router maybe blocking too many ports or not working well with Android.

Update.
I fixed it by flashing a new gtalk to both phones.

I have suddenly developed an issue with my new SGS3. When using the YouTube app I am disconnected from my wifi and it uses mobile data (a rather costly exercise!). It seems to only happen when I watch full screen in landscape for some strange reason.
This seems to be a recent occurrence. I did try uninstalling updates to the app and tested but still had the same problem.
Anyone else experiencing this and any solutions?
I am using stock software with no rooting.
Opposite for me, I can only use WiFi and it won't work on 3g

Yeah, in my online search for a solution I have come across mention of the opposite problem for some. Weird. I'm hoping someone has a solution or do we need need to wait for Google to get their act together?
I have an extremely strong wifi signal at home but my GN2 keeps losing signal, I don't have this problem with any of my other devices does anyone have any suggestions?

What ROM are you running? Are you using the stock kernel? I am having a couple drops with WiFi on Beans 3 and the Perseus kernel. Whenever I connect to a bluetooth device (MOGA controller) my wifi kicks off for a couple minutes.

I'm having the same problem on CleanRom with the stock kernel. I got rid of Beans 3 and Perseus because I was looking for a fix. It's driving me nuts

I am also on CleanROM and have issues with Wifi. I'll connect it to the network and it will just disconnect. I have to manually connect to the network each time. I even restored back to my backup stock rom and it seemed the problem is still occuring. I'm not using MOGA
I'm on the stock rom as I have not rooted yet this is ridiculous

I have no problem with wifi signal on my phone. If you're having an issue, you should exchange your device for another one...assuming that it's still under warranty.
I don't think that this is a defective unit that exchanging the phone will solve.
