just a quick ICS question - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

when ICS becomes officially available, do you think its possible that the capacitive buttons will still be used? i may just be nitpicking, but i think it would be rather awkward to have the capacitive buttons just go to waste.
if this has been discussed, please share the link and delete this thread

The virtual buttons will only be used on the galaxy Nexus and devices that opt out of hardware buttons. They can be hidden by any dev that wishes to, and the capacative buttons will work fine.

sweeeet. so basically, the on screen buttons are put in place for future phones to take advantage of, makes sense to me

I prefer the capacitive buttons, I look forward to seeing what performance looks like on the GS2.

So only the chefs can turn that on/off, there won't/can't be a way to toggle it in the phone settings anywhere?

HTC Sense Keyboard?

Is there a way I can get a copy of the stock HTC Keyboard on the G2? I miss it so much from my Inspire 4G. I believe it was Sense 2.1. Preferably without rooting?
I believe if you Google HTC keyboard xda you should be able to find something

I have but it seems more complicated than just a quick apk install. The ones I read have some sort of ime which needs to be modified to work without Sense. It seems to be over my head. I'm not a complete noob, I rooted my Inspire 4G but found I prefer stock for what I do. But the keyboard thing really bugs me on this device.
Try looking up jonasl HTC ime because all that was needed was 2 apks to install

I found this which is exactly what Im looking for, are there steps I need to take to make it work? It seems to have some pretty specific instructions and for a different device
I read closer and it wont work. I really like the directional keys on the bottom which the FroYo keyboards floating around dont have.

This is the HTC skin from Smart Keyboard Pro (though it doesn't look as good as the original). It gives the directional keys also (you can use them with any skin). It has a lot of skins to begin with, and you have the option to get more (from the app forum).
There are several options for lookalikes - thumb keyboard comes very close, and I really appreciate the suggestion. But these don't quite do it. I've resorted to Swype till I figure this out. I'm noticing these and the included keyboards don't come with a keyboard hide button either which gets incredibly annoying especially while using the internet browser. Sort of frustrating how a supposedly superior device seems less thought through than the HTC.

It's funny you say that; I made that feature request to the developer of the app I mentioned (which was never implemented). You've piqued my interest in this and I'll be on the lookout.

Touch Enabled CWM?

Anyone out there wanna have a go at making a tocuh enabled CWM for our device?
Saw this article and thought it'd be pretty cool!
I don't really think we need that. This is good for phones the don't have physical buttons like the newest Nexus or for tablets.
I agree with Dragonnn it would be cool to have touch enabled Recovery but it is actually no good for devices like our Ace.
DUDE. There might be problems with the touch enabled CWM such as accidental press. So, our current one is better.

Forget Jellybean OTA update...its all about CM10!

Who cares if we don't get an official OTA update to 4.1, looks like the devices running cm9 currently, have a high chance of running cm10! :victory:
Just wanted to share this article in case people haven't already seen it...or are just lazy to browse Google. Lol.

Its all speculation that the current devices running CM9 will see CM10.
We will know for sure once JB source drops.

I'm sure he means S-Pen specific apps.
I really think they could make it happen. Kinda like going from cm6 to cm7...it was a very small and fast update.

Lol.
I read the actual post on Cyanogen's G+ page, not this summary.
He even said himself that devices running CM9 "should" be inline for CM10. Should as in not being a sure thing. Not being a sure thing as in source for Jelly Bean needs to be analyzed to actually confirm.
Not to mention Project Butter needs to be merged with the build.
Since we don’t have source, we obviously can’t give a 100% analysis. What we do anticipate refactoring is Trebuchet and the LockScreen enhancements, along with the Theme Engine.
In addition, we expect to have to hand merge (versus a more automated method) the updated Framework code. This isn’t because of massive changes, but from what we’ve heard, the Framework code has been split into multiple projects to better the PDK (Platform Development Kit). Should be doable in a weekend’s amount of time.

Basically from what I can tell you give up SPen specific apps, like you say, anything built against the Samsung SPen SDK.
That said, Papyrus works JUST LIKE it did before. Pressure, side button, ignore fingers, etc... I have it set so side button is erase, fingers are ignored, and I can draw away, click the button to erase, my fingers won't accidentally draw, etc.
So while there might be an SPen App market that's growing a bit, the SPen's functions can be well supported without it.
Yup Papyrus works good..also i think MyStory works as well.
He's probably talking about the back, home, menu, and screenshot functions of the pen

I like basic AOSP. I suppose if they get CM10 out then a dev can back it out to AOSP like Flapjaxxx did with CM9? At least that's how I think he did it.

I believe all he did is take out the trebuchet launcher along with theme Chooser...and some other components that comes stock on cm9. Hence, why he called it AOSP/cm9 mashup.

Its not a bad idea but I can see how it would cause accidentally locking/unlocking. The Unlock button on my phone is a bit unresponsive so it would be convenient. The reason the EVO has it is because the unlock button is terribly stiff. The Amaze's unlock button is actually easy to press so its not too practical to implement it.

The kernel dev who has the over clock kernel in the general forum that I posted is the one whose team did slide to unlock.. drum up some support for him to continue development after he gets the overclocked kernel done, he is the one to talk to..

I have to press my power button way too hard to wake it these days, it is a simple feature, and I for one think it would be awesome.. and I have yet to see anyone have it efficiently wale their phone - you have to slide, in order, across all the soft keys. It just isn't gonna happen.

He was talking about buying an amaze in one of his latest posts in my thread to troubleshoot.. so maybe we will get lucky and we will get the full kernel. He posted a new build in the dev section that adds badass governor and some other awesome features, so we may be on our way after all..

[Q] Buttons on the LGOG

Hey guys after flashing my LGOG to N4 i have these on screen buttons... I hate them~ thing is i can remove the onscreen buttons, but my capacitive buttons do no work. is there a work around, mod, anything really to make the LGOG capacitive buttons work?
Flash the CM10.1 fix with the cap buttons. I actually enjoy the on screen keys.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
If you look through the Development subforum you'll see many threads with something like "N4 FIX" in the title. Try reading through some of those for your answers. For that matter try using the "search" feature before asking questions that have obvious answers.
