HTC Sense Keyboard? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Is there a way I can get a copy of the stock HTC Keyboard on the G2? I miss it so much from my Inspire 4G. I believe it was Sense 2.1. Preferably without rooting?

I believe if you Google HTC keyboard xda you should be able to find something

I have but it seems more complicated than just a quick apk install. The ones I read have some sort of ime which needs to be modified to work without Sense. It seems to be over my head. I'm not a complete noob, I rooted my Inspire 4G but found I prefer stock for what I do. But the keyboard thing really bugs me on this device.

Try looking up jonasl HTC ime because all that was needed was 2 apks to install

I found this which is exactly what Im looking for, are there steps I need to take to make it work? It seems to have some pretty specific instructions and for a different device
I read closer and it wont work. I really like the directional keys on the bottom which the FroYo keyboards floating around dont have.

This is the HTC skin from Smart Keyboard Pro (though it doesn't look as good as the original). It gives the directional keys also (you can use them with any skin). It has a lot of skins to begin with, and you have the option to get more (from the app forum).

There are several options for lookalikes - thumb keyboard comes very close, and I really appreciate the suggestion. But these don't quite do it. I've resorted to Swype till I figure this out. I'm noticing these and the included keyboards don't come with a keyboard hide button either which gets incredibly annoying especially while using the internet browser. Sort of frustrating how a supposedly superior device seems less thought through than the HTC.

It's funny you say that; I made that feature request to the developer of the app I mentioned (which was never implemented). You've piqued my interest in this and I'll be on the lookout.

HTC Sense on Vibrant?

Is it possible?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
No it is not.
There are a lot of things out that there that replicate what it does, but do officially port it over would pose some serious legal issues.
Also, why would you want sense? There is plenty out there that tops it.
And, for future reference, please search a topic before posting a question about it.

I'm looking for it too! I guess since it has to do with a lot of legal actions we wont find it on here but it would be nice to have the desire HD rom on the vibrant since we may not see that phone in the US unless we get the overseas version that doesn't even work with our 3g or hspa
What Legal Issues? I didn't know about that.
And What Are Other Thing's That Top HTC Sense? Because TW isn't one of them.

There is nothing that tops HTC Sense right now name one? you cant at all! and nothing on the Vibrant tops what HTC has I like using my HD2 sometimes cause I cant stand the TW I love the HTC Sense and the new features the New desire hd has!!!!

lol, I wasn't making a "smart comment". I was stating that facts.
As of right now there is no sense for the Vibrant.
HTC sense is made for HTC phones, and it will take a while before a stable release if released, if ever.
Also, the code for sense is owned by HTC, so using it without there consent and porting it over to another phone is illegal, even though nobody cares too much.
And, LauncherPro is amazing. What exactly do you want from sense that you can't get on your Vibrant otherwise?
And, nice triple post.
HTC Sense is not gpl or apache licensed. It is intellectual property of HTC. Try to get a port going if you want but it won't fly here on XDA.

I don't have a link, but it's at the very tail end of the galaxy sense thread in the Dec section. I haven't personally seen the thread pop up in about a well or so, but I know it's using a gb sense leak, on top of some CM7 parts and that some of the drawing features of sense don't work.

Keyboards with swipe capabilities?

We all know what Swype is. However, I got to wondering if there were alternatives to the famous "Swype." Mostly because of the recent Nuance buyout it made me wonder Swype will always be around and, if it is around, at what price? That got me thinking there has to be alternatives, and so far I've found a few.
I've found Go Keyboard has swipe capability built in, however it seems ungodly inaccurate. I find I have to fight just to get it to type longer words, like sometimes, technologies, bringing, etc.
Likewise, I found SlideIt. It seems very fast, very responsive, and a very decent default dictionary. It seems to hang up for a nanosecond longer than some other keyboards when I fire them up, but once it's up it runs pretty quick.
That said, are there any others out there? Is there any potential for the default Android keyboard to adopt technology like this so all Androids have this capability out of the box?

+2 right here. You need to get v5 of touchpal from here on XDA (it's in this forum) rather than the v4.8 on the market. Usually as accurate as swype, many more features.
Edit: Linky here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261750
Using TouchPal for few days, well it's damn great as a Free app, but there is some word selection problem exists which I already stated in that above thread. Anyway, I used to used T9 Trace on my Wave S8500 and was in love with it, whatever I swiped it used to give me the correct words, quite surprisingly! This built in Swype in Android is far more complicated than that. Some words you could never type on, like Or, What's, That's and a plenty more. I've tried changing the accuracy levels and words suggestion settings but nothing seemed to work out.
Frankly I am still searching for the KB of my liking, don't know if I'll successfully get one ! Something like T9 Trace!
BTW- This thread should be made a Sticky for Swype lovers like me and OP I guess.

For those having swype problems.

Being an advid lover of swype and not particularly caring for the built in trace options on the HTC Flyer. I figured I would try SlideIT.
I don't particularly like slideIT on the phone as swype just feels smoother and seems to manage space better.
However, I figured I would test it on the flyer and feel it is a great alternative to the stock HTC trace keyboard with a few extra features. I would not pay 5$ for it, but on sale for .99$ it is a great deal. I would highly suggest trying it out as swype seems to have no real concern about officially supporting the HTC flyer.
https://market.android.com/details?...t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5kYXN1ci5zbGlkZWl0Il0.
i bought it during the 10c sale...the only thing i like about it is the skins...it doesn't hold a candle to Swype on accuracy and word prediction - but yes, it's better than the stock Trace
Why not just use Swype then? Runs fine for me.

Seeing as the title is "For those having swype problems" I think that would be pretty explanatory as to why we aren't using swype.
For like 6 months now Swype has not officially supported the flyer on honeycomb.
After a few days with SlideIT I must say it doesn't compare to swype.. but, it is nice to have some skin options.
I find Trace and SlideIT both have more issues than swype.. I can't really say over all what is the "better" keyboard, but I can spend a 1$ to find out if there is a possible better opportunity and would encourage others to at least try the alternative as well. (I still haven't decided whether or not I prefer SlideIT to trace, but I imagine everyone will have personal preference one way or the other)
The other reason I decided to go ahead and pay out is because if swype ever doesn't have support and trace isn't an option... I will have the SlideIT option if I ever have to get another tablet.

I didn't realize this was a HC issue, as it was not indicated in your OP. I have a modified black/white Swype apk that I loaded on GB. I have no experience with HC yet. My response was to the poster above me. Again, I didn't realize it was a HC issue and there was no indication of what the Swype issues are/were.
That being said, I totally understand going with an alternative. I missed the sale and have no need for this other keyboard at the moment. But perhaps I'll give their trial version a run. Thank you for providing another option.

The trail doesn't work on the flyer for some reason.
I myself am hesitant to try the various modified swype APKs I've seen flying around..
Plus I would like some degree of official support from whatever App I use.. Not adverse to dev support or anything.. but, I've found swype is making continuous improvements in the right direction and would hate to have to be "frozen" on an older version of it.. Even if I like swype more.. at least the .99$ version of SlideIT may still change and get improvements..
Also while the sale is off now.. It will be back up in a week or two I'd almost bet money.. I wouldn't recommend it on phones as it takes up a lot more space than swype.. but, on tablets the space it waste is almost a non-issue.
Flex t9 works great and works with the scribe decently.
I downloaded the swype installer apk to my desktop computer, copied it over to my Flyer and ran the install. It installed perfectly and works great. It is version 3.26.92.38303.

Keyboard Switching App

Hey folks, as some of the custom ROMs for our eLTEvo's have -
a) removed Swype, and therefore removed a relatively easy way to switch keyboards (why did you do it this way HTC, why?)
and/or
b) the notification based switcher
I created a quick app, for those needing it, that I built in Tasker. Install it like any other application. When you run it, you should get the pop-up selection list of the keyboards you have installed.
Tested on CleanROM BE 2.1, and an HTC One-S running CM10/JellyBean (pre-Alpha).
Dev's - feel free to include this in your ROMs if you like. A shout-out would be appreciated. Thanks to Zach D. for testing, to Pent for creating Tasker, and Everaldo and The Crystal Project for the app icon.

Well, the definition depends on your point-of-view...
a) Solely for the purpose of this app, any ROM that has been modified to remove keyboard switching functionality.
b) If you ask a Sprint rep, any ROM that didn't come on the phone, from the factory.
c) Basically, most of the ROMs in these 2 threads, even if they have "stock" in the name -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1594
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1686
d) For further definitions, you could ask a (in alphabetical order)
1) Chuck Norris (if you dare)
2) Computer science major
3) Priest
4) Rabbi
5) ROM chef
6) ROM developer
7) Shaman
8) Witch doctor
Sorry, couldn't resist item "d", but it's partially the product of having a shot of espresso in my 3rd coffee of the morning... :silly:
Anyway, thanks for asking, as you've made me realize I built the app to only install on ICS or higher. It should work OK on Gingerbread and up if I make a simple change and rebuild it...
Thanks for sharing. It's beyond me why some devs remove this functionality. Are you sure it's linked to removing swype? I see you kind of blame HTC for the switcher, but I first noticed the notification toggle when running AOKP in my OG Evo, which I'm pretty certain didn't come with swype, and fully certain had no HTC/sense coding, so I assumed it was just new to Android 4.0+

You're most welcome. I believe some devs have removed it due to user requests or as part of bloat removal (at least from what I've read, I'm subscribed all over the eLTEvo dev place... ).
As far as Swype goes - on a stock(ish) ROM, that is where you go to (via settings), in order to switch keyboards. It's the topmost button in the Swype settings. Why HTC put it there is a mystery to me... ...but I'm not blaming them.
As far as removing the notification icon, that's a totally separate mod. As to where it originated, I have no idea. Never looked at AOKP when I was still on my OG Evo - I ran either MikG or CM7, and I don't recall seeing that in CM7. Go figure...
You wouldn't have seen it on CM7 cuz that was android 2.3. But I had it on AOKP on Evo 4g, which didn't have swype or any HTC stuff. So I'm pretty sure it's just native to Android 4.0+.
Just my thoughts. I had to pop in to redownload your app cuz I lost my Evo and actually had to buy a new one. So once again, big big thanks to you.
