Ok so I've had this question forever and I'm not sure its ever been addressed.
I rooted via revolutionary so I have s off.
for whatever reason I decided I wanted to have h boot 1.5.
I know about the kernel dilemma with hboot 1.5.
Does anyone if that would still affect me even with s off?
Does anyone have a link to unit 1.4 that I can try and flash through recov?
Thanks guys,
RJ

There is no benefit. Its locked down so there is absolutely no reason to upgrade unless you don't like having root access.

If you ever wanted the newer hboot version (I don't see why anyone would ever want it) you could flash it but I don't know if it will keep S-Off. If it does, it will be locked so you might have to use HTC unlock to get the features of S-Off. Even then, you might still have to flash kernels via fastboot.
TLDR: Don't flash HBOOT 1.50.
Wanna trade phones? I've got 1.5 and I really wish I didn't.

Haha because 1.5 is obviously a bigger number than 1.4 right!? The bigger the number the cooler you are. Example you have 1.4 million dollars I have 1.5 million dollars. I'm living large. End of story

No need to get pissy, I was simply asking if you think there are any advantages of having the 1.5 hboot over the 1.4 or the ENG hboot. I mean, there are no new featrues. In fact, if you wanted all of the hboot features, then the ENG hboot is your best bet.

Ah, good to know. It can be rather difficult to convey and understand sarcasm on the internet, especially on these forums. Anyways, as long as you have S-OFF, that's all that matters. However, if you want all the features possible, you want the ENG hboot. Haus has a thread on how to install it in the dev forums.
I did what you did, had 1.40 and flashed the wrong update, got 1.50 LOCKED with S-off. You can still flash ROMs and Kernels with no issues. I just had to reload TWRP recovery. Then I flashed the 1.40 Bootloader and all was well.
You can grab 1.40 and flash from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192306&highlight=eng+bootloader
***To others reading this...do not flash this, unless you are S-OFF with 1.50 hboot***
You do not need to UNLOCK using the htcdev method. Just flash the 1.40 hboot and you will be fine.

They release an official unlock method that still gives them some control. For example, you can't flash a different hboot or a different radio on their unlock method.
What type of features are you talking about? Are you saying 1.4 h-boot over 1.3 adds extras to the phone?

Is your hboot still S-off? If so, youre probably able to reflash recovery and regain root
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
You just need to follow the "UNROOT" instructions which will roll your Hboot back and then run Revolution again.... (*Or at least thats what I understand from all the reading I have done.) The method they used to get us permanent NAND unlock seems to truly be permanent so you just have to use the HTC Bootloader unlock, then use that to roll the HBOOT back in order to use Revolutionary.
*I have not done this and never will have to but this is my understanding. As always YMMV and if you BRICK IT,well, you already BOUGHT IT.

Hit up that guy who posted that reply. I am pretty sure he did it and redid it a couple times. (*I think)
FORGET IT! That guy actually still had his S-off from Revolutionary and DID NOT take the OTA which is how your NAND was relocked. For now, either sit tight and wait, again, for Rev and Unrevoked to hopefully cook something up or use the HTC method and enjoy half root.

um couldnt we just change the mainver back to something low say 1.00.000.0 then we could ruu (phone thinks it's an update) and it would flash the radio back to how it was... so no we wouldn't be sol im pretty sure
Wouldn't it run into a Hboot older error? The Hboot was updated to 2.21 from 2.11.
If a radio problem is found, no one will be able to change unless a higher version number radio is released that fixes it. Hboot at least has a hope with the EVO 3d method of down grade.
S-On radio and hboot leak flashing is serious business imo.

Am I missing something? Can't we just flash an older RUU, which will flash a lower radio version. Then run the update?

You wouldn't get past the Hboot check. With the new leak, it updated your hboot. It was 2.11 now 2.21. If they left the hboot alone, then maybe, just maybe it would have allowed you to reset the mainver and reflash an older RUU, but that won't now.

There is no s-off for hboot 1.15 yet.
The reason you should not take the OTA is because there is a new hboot, which means it will probably be a very long time before you can get s-off on 1.19.
If you can hold out awhile longer, s-off should be possible on 1.15, then you can do whatever you want, update radio, etc.

I know what you know, but if you look at the evo 3d and most phones, the pattern is that the first hboot is cracked quickly, the next one soon after, and the third takes a while(at least a year). There are still plenty of devs that haven't upgraded to the LTE yet.
Also, since htc has updated hboot again, has led many to believe on this forum that HTC found an exploit in 1.15 and patched it. With the phone this new, I bet s-off will be achieved with 1.15 relatively soon. But again, no sources, just my possibly flawed logic.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
If anyone knew 100% that it would be possible to crack it would already be cracked.
We are making assumptions bbased on the fact that HTC released hboot 1.19. They don't usually do that unless it patches vulnerabilities used to gain S-OFF
Does anyone know WHY HTC doesn't want us to have s-off? Even if we void the warranty doing it through their method. I would be completely satisfied if HTC dev let me have s-off.

What if they let us get s-off by providing our serial numbers? It seems like it would benefit them to let us get s-off via them. Then they could blacklist our serial numbers, if we do it, there isn't much they can do because as you mentioned, it's hard to tell once it's bricked.

I wonder if one reason they close the exploits as fast as they can, and the reason their unlocker wipes the phone, is a liability issue their lawyers told them to do. So nobody can do this to somebody else's phone and access "sensitive data" or something.

Problem is we get this question in a lot of threads, the only exploit for soff requires hboot 1.12. Nothing available will give us soff without hboot 1.12 and there is no safe way of downgrading. Even people already soff have bricked their phones attempting to downgrade hboot

The only way to downgrade your HBOOT on this device IS to brick your phone (if you're S-ON, that is). I think you misunderstood. This device is much more locked down than the OG. "Forget everything you think you know."
But at this point, the downgrade method isn't supported (yet). I already bricked my Jewel trying it (granted, that was after the downgrade was completed successfully, but still).
The team that put together the downgrading tool is still working vigorously on confirming a method that will work reliably with the new HBOOT. Stay tuned.
