[Q] Front facing camera - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hello again guys,
Lately I've noticed the green light for the front facing camera going on randomly, as if the camera is being activated, even when not using an app that requires it. Only apps that I need it for are Yahoo! messenger, Skype, & Google Talk.
It usually comes on while I'm surfing the net or playing a game, as I said randomly. I recently updated Yahoo! to v1.5.0. Has anyone else experienced this? My biggest worry is if someone is spying on me.
Let me know...

Sorry no one has got back to you sooner. I have noticed this too. It is supposed to indicate the front camera is being used. Comes on at start up with me - just for 1-2 seconds. Rarely, it will POP on randomly during general browsing. It is a little concerning, I agree. Would be grateful if someone could please offer explanation. Should we be worried?

Don't be too worried about this. It's just a Russian crime syndicate taking your picture so they can put it on a fake ID that they'll use to open a series of bank accounts in your name for the purposes of laundering drug and arms trafficking profits. Nothing to be too concerned about.

hmm... I thought as much

It’s most likely Skype logging you in and out. A lot of users are having that problem.

[Q] Security Apps that possibly utilize front facing camera?

Hey,
I'm quite a paranoid person when it comes to my phone and was wondering if there were any applications that are better than Samsung's default 'Dive' software. Although it's quite impressive, it doesn't work when data is turned off which is a big no for me.
I know that there are apps out there that make full use of phones that have front facing cameras (such as taking a picture of anyone who types in a wrong pass). I've tried WaveSecure but ever since they were bought out by McAfee the app has gradually turned to crap.
Any of your suggestions would be appreciated, although I have phone insurance it doesn't quite cover all my precious data on my phone.

Nokia Sleeping Screen - We need this

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020577&page=1
That's just a link to another thread in Off Topic, but it has the link/video showing Nokia Sleeping Screen.
I used to own a Nokia C6-01 with this feature and let me tell you - it was NICE! Since we don't have an LED and apparently there's issues with BLN and wakelocks maybe this could be implemented instead. Think about it.. our screen is a bunch of LEDs - let's utilize it!! The NSS would shut off when the phone was in your pocket as well - but as soon as I put the device on a table it would appear - very slick.
This sounds like a great idea, but I would think it would be a battery drainer. I have used NoLED for a bit, and noticed it kills my battery; forgive me if I'm wrong, but they seem to be similar.
If a dev could somehow implement something similar to Nokia's sleep screen while preserving battery life, I would not mind paying for this at all!
Anything that turns the screen on will drain even more battery than BLN wakelocking.
google chrome just alerted me when i went to the link....

not your fault. firefox didnt pick it up. it might not even have anything malicious, but in my 2 year stint with google chrome it has never led me wrong
just alerting anyone that might need to know.
It's probably because Nokia phones got excellent battery life to begin with and don't really have that many functions so you never noticed a difference.
Any additional screen on time would be detrimental to the battery life. For me, it seems kind of silly to have the screen wake when the phone sits in my pocket the vast majority of the time.

The C6-01 barely had better battery life than this phone. I just thought it was a slick feature it was very useful.

How do you know when you get a missed call or text? I find that waking the phone s much as I do during the day to check these things would warrant a large benefit from a feature like NSS and it did for me!

I hear it!
With the audible notification, I can even tell if its a SMS, e-mail or calender reminder by the tone.
I don't see how having my screen constantly on is better than checking you screen to see if you have any notification (especially when I usually can hear incoming notifications and only have to check if I have been away from my phone in a loud place).
Don't get me wrong it's kinda cool and looks pretty, but I don't see it being super useful or practical from a batter power standpoint.

I don't thunk you realize how little power this is drawing. And I could hear mine as well but I don't keep my phone by my side all day long. To each their own. I know the people who use nss love it you can't deny that fact.

Folders open on their own

I have this problem with my new Galaxy S3. I searched the Internet, and found someone with the same problem. The thread is quoted here:
My folders are opening on their own
If I wake the phone, or close an app, my games folder opens by itself. This also happened with my news folder, I thought it had been a problem with a news app in the folder so I deleted it. But now it's the games folder ! Is this down to an app conflict ? As far as I can see it happens randomly, not triggered by something I'm doing. I thought it might be something to do with automatically opening regularly accessed folders but it's not consistent.
*really hoping you lot aren't getting sick of my inane android-newbie questions*

Is anybody here at XDA having the same issue? It's REALLY REALLY annoying.
Maybe somebody got a solution?
Thanks in advance
It happens to me as well sometimes folders on ny home screen are open after closing apps or returning to home screen. I think it is a bug which will be fixed soon.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I dont think it will be fixed, because i contacted Samsung today, and they wasn't aware of the bug. So we need more people to contact Samsung, to tell them about this.

You may be right about that.
But how can we users tip the developer department about bugs?
There is also the bug where the notification sounds is played by the speaker, even if the head phones is plugged in.
And i don't know if this is a software bug, but i also get very LOW sound when the head phones are plugged in. Can easily hear the noise from outside when having the volumen at max and listening to music/radio/what ever.
Reporting in. Got the bug here too. Games folder will randomly open when I quit an app / return to the home screen. It's intermittent and rare but slightly annoying.

Experienced this yesterday at a T-Mobile store and thought I had suddenly forgot how to operate a phone. Glad I came across this thread and confirmed I'm not crazy. Waiting to get hands on with the Incredible 4 tomorrow before deciding which to purchase.

Folder's opening on their own
I have had this on every iteration of the firm available in the UK (BTU). Not experienced it on any other launcher. I would use Apex full time but I have weird widget size problems which is even more annoying.
same here... any news about a fix?
Folder Bug
...having the same problem...pretty annoying. No solution so far. It is always the game folder.
Hi guys,
This happens to me as well. It's always the Games folder. I tried renaming that, thinking that it has to do somehow with it's name. Also, maybe we can trace it back to some of the games inside. Mine are:
Real Racing 2
Angry Birds Space
Zynga Poker
Asphalt 7
888 Poker
So let me know if any of you experimenting this has one of those in the Games folder. Thanks guys!

Marius

Microphone issues in 3rd party apps (Whatsapp, Facebook messenger, etc.)

Is anyone else experiencing microphone issues in 3rd party apps? People on the other side report my audio is intermittent at best using Whatsapp, Duo, etc. If I connect to Bluetooth it seems to work just fine. I'm on AT&T and running ARBI. I've reset the phone, re-downloaded all the apps and am still having issues. If it gets worse will have to take it back and return it.
Thanks,
Seth

Unfortunately, that didn't help. Hoping Samsung pushes out a fix to this soon. So disappointing after spending good money to get the best they offer.

How to cure smartphone addiction?

Hey, i have a big addiction problem with screens, usually i use buttoned phone rather than smartphone.
But sometimes there is a need for messenger to chat with people to meet them and calendar might come in handy.
So far i haven't found an app that could efficiently block screen time for some apps. They all have some bugs or workarounds.
I was thinking about rooting phone and deleting apps that make me addicted the most like browser, youtube, app store..
Would that work? Or maybe you have some good recommendations regards to some app or other method?
Would love to have smartphone in my pocket for only important things ,but i know eventually it will get out of hands.
That's the reason i don't have tv or have restricted pc usage
Its ****ing weird but its real..

Could you try turning it off, for eg an hour a day?
Maybe start turning it off for 10 minutes and increase it as tolerated?
Do something distracting during this time, eg go for a walk?
Bit like stopping smoking, I guess.

Have tried this. Eventually I will get hooked again.
For smoking, only thing that worked was just stop and never touch it again.
Works with smartphone also, but the thing that wants me using it is fb chat with newly met people.
I see alot of people who have problem with phones, but they seem to not give damn.
For me I see big drop in quality of life so I need to find a workaround.
This is something yo u will have to learn to deal with. Smartphones are gonna be almost as widely used in our lives as laptops are. You will just have to curb your usage. Like after I get off work. My phone goes on a charger and I never touch it again until the next morning, unless it rings of course.
