The Evo 4G is the first Android phone I have ever owned, and it hasn't disappointed me yet. I think it's a good candidate for one of the best phones that HTC has released ever. If the Evo 3D is just as good as the Evo 4G was last year, then that should make the loss of the og evo not so bad

Yup. There's so many goodbye threads over there.
You were a good phone, and I'll miss you.
I'll cry a little inside then move on. It's been an awesome year. I never would have believed a phone would have such a huge impact on my life. It's a curse and a blessing - all wrapped up in black!!
=) MIUI-licious EVO
this threads got me all choked up
lol its sooooo true though. Im actually flashing my 4g back to a rooted stock rom so i can sell it with the free wifi tether on craigslist now.
I will be going through withdraws not having anything to flash or modify lol.

I actually flashed back to Stock a couple of days ago and couldn't stand being back on Sense. Flashed CM7 back and cancelled my preorder. I don't care how fast and how improved, unrooted Sense just sucks.
I may join you guys after you work through all the quirks and after the first update (definitely not before we have root), but my Evo is just as good today as it was a year ago.
EVO4G was my first touch screen phone and Android phone(moved from BB Curve), so it will be tough letting her go. However, I am extremely excited for my EVO 3D!

I still have my HERO and haven't been in that forum in at least 2 weeks. Counting down until Friday 8am EST! My phone seems to know it's about to be replaced because it's actually working better than it's ever worked. But it's going to my girlfriend cause she wants it. It'll be her headache after Friday. Maybe now I can convince her to let me get her a new phone after she sees my new one.

Yeah, my first android was the g1. then switched to sprint for the hero and went to the evo on launch. sold my evo june first, went back to the hero. Man other than the web being slow, and the camera taking forever to load. The hero has been fun to use for the last month. Im running cm7 and its smooth. Wayy too smooth for a old phone. This makes me realize how much android has grown up in the last 3 years. Im not going to be selling the hero. She is staying in my collection as my backup phone. the Evo 4g was to valuble $$ to just shovel away in the closet. I hope we can make this evo 3D a success so that htc will keep the evo line going. Becuase I know, After playing with the 3d at sprint today, I made a good choice and will be buying HTC again, hopefully next will be a quad core thin rugged evo. call it the Evo Q4, for quad core. anyway. . thanks sprint.
Luckily my wife is getting my EVO and I am selling her Epic and I'm grabbing the 3d Evo, OG evo was a great phone and first phone I got into with flashing and rooting etc...
It was a lot of fun going into the sprint store yesterday seeing the workers play with the 3d evo, and I was playing with 3.0 sense on my regular Evo with some customers not knowing how i did it.
Can't wait till Friday

Try Synergy as soon as you can. Sense 1 and 2 do blow pretty bad but 3 is a big improvement and it's not going to be so bad rocking it until we get root. I have been on the stock rom for 2 weeks (burns in my OGE meant I got a new OG with GB already on it so no root and flash for me before getting rid of it) and it's been painful....
so for the passed couple week my evo been making phone calls by its self .it was funny seening it dial random number. But the other day i was at the movies and it called every one in my phone book while it was in sleep mode. I took it to sprint and told them this was happening and look at me crazy . so they did some test on it .and sure enough my screen was going out on the bottom . but they said they had to wait till they had a replacement phone for me . so i been with a half touch for a week now .any one else had this problem
you were probably hAxor3d. hide yo kids, hide yo wife, cause they rapin erry body
Your phone had a poltergeist. Take it to a priest. Not sprint. That's were you messed up
My friends wife has this same problem with her 3d. It can just be chilling in the table and it will turn on and start calling people.

That, and, 3D sense would be pointless because it wood look terrible (all pixely and stuff) and it would have to be in landscape view.
Well I was saying that more because his comment insinuated that none of the roms are any good... Meaning the ones that all the guys in the dev section have developed? Or what? Pretty dumb comment when A. He hasnt even used any of them and B. Its a slap in the face to the hours these guys spend building them. I have used/tested just about all of them, and my phone was a million times better than it was out of the box with every one of them. People need to think before they post.

I'm on my second 3d for this exact same reason. Often the phone would start moving\deleting apps off my home screen lol. It would also send a lot of gibberish text messages as I'd watch swiftkey just run away with words that I wasn't typing lol.

Im just tired of people making such a big deal about cm7. All cm7 is plain android. Yes it was nice and fast on the old evo. But now it time for something different. We have the tech to make sense 3d it would be so nice. cobraboy85 if you like something other than sense on the evo 3d good for you. maybe u should of got the nexus s 4g then.
I totally lucked out tonight. I HTC unlocked my 1st (you can see where this is going) w/synergy nightly decided to die. Charge port went out. So my week old brand new EVO has been replaced by a hboot 1.3 "recertified" phone. All I know is, the 3d has not been as cool as u thought. Need an opinion. Have a trade for sg2 lined up. Thoughts.

I am perplexed by this post.......
I either just got trolled (my guess),
or this is a kid. (my second guess).
A couple things, anyway, just for the S&G's.... :
First, THIS:
"All CM7 is (sic) plain Android."
Um, yeah, and that's all you should want it to be:
**Straight up-blazing-fast-small-rommed-custom-kerneled-Android, BUT, with a ****load of "extra customization options" that are very carefully painted on top.
(That sounds pretty much like a perfect situation to me.)
Then, THIS:
"We have the tech to make sense 3d, it would be so nice."
Oh, really... DO WE have the tech?
One question...
(and this is only if you assume that bloated memory-hog called Sense could actually be "ported into 3D")
Where in the world would you put it?
With the standard, (not-even-a-full-version) of a Stock HTC Evo3d Sense 3.0 Rom weighing in at like 700 Megs, how big do you think a fully 3-d, re-drawn, optimized version would come in at?
3 gigs? 4 gigs? 10?
You're on the wrong phone (or the wrong planet) if you wanna start discussing the development or even the possibility of a 3+Gigabyte Rom.
Sheesh.
don't flame me, I wanted to make sure I am making the right decision when dropping 650 on a phone.
I got the Gnex. Switched my dead pixeled rezound in for it. I have 30 days to try it out and switch back if it is ****ty. I am not here to start that argument, I am here to ask;
Why must the Rezound bootloader be heavily locked to "protect the network" but the GNex bootloader is so easily unlocked? It slipped my mind how easy it is to unlock the Nexus line... cmd: fastboot oem unlock. bootloader unlocked.
WHAT?! I actually expected the VZN GNex to have some crazy ass bootloader that would be hard to crack like the rezound. Instead it is like every other Nexus phone to unlock. One Command Line entry.
Anyone else not get Verizon's logic? I think if we hound them about the bootloader on this phone, this point should be brought up. How can this phone make the exception, but every other phone cannot?
Also, for those wondering, I love the GNex, but unless they fix the radio, that drops 4G more than a slicked up man holding a slicked up pig, I am dumping this for the rezound no matter the fact it has an unlocked bootloader.
I agreee. We need to hammer them on facebook and via email.

I see. But Sammy phones are infamous for craptacular radios, apparently the Nexus isn't an exception. A lot of people that have it are saying "Great software on sub-mid to mid range hardware.". Hope it works out for you, or you figure out what to do. Best of luck.

Thanks. I probably will come back to the rezound, in the end. I just didn't want to commit, like I did with the bionic, go past my 30 days, to come to find I regret my choice 100%. Atleast this way, if I go to the rezound, I won't be sitting here thinking the GNex is better.

I mean had I had hopes for the Nexus as well but I personally cannot get over a few things on it. #1)It's Samsung (bad radios/cheap build) #2) They didn't go w/ the exynos/mali combo imo then the Nexus would have equal horsepower as the Rezound does. #3.)The pentile submatrix does bother me a lot. I played with my friends Nexus today and the whites are like a plaque/linen yellow. The screen has a blue tinge, but I already know this, as it is to preserve the life of the blue pixel since those tend to die out first. 4.) No SD slot especially since I just bought one of those new microSDXC w/ transfer speeds up to 35MB/s. Other than that the Nexus is an okay device, nothing spectacular about it except for ICS.

1. So true on the craptacular radios... build quality, I like.
2. If Samsung COULD have gone with the Exynos/Mali combo, it would take the Rezound running at 1.8 to have equal horsepower as the Exynos running at 1.2.
3. Oh yeah... PenTILE..... EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
4. Google.

Either phone will be the best choice for your $650. They have their pros and cons. I love Sense and can't stand pure vanilla Android. That's why I have a Rezound. Sit back and think about what you want in a phone. I won't flame you either way. It's YOUR money that will be buying the phone, not anybody else's.
Good luck to you.
So maybe I'm along, but I have way more issues with my rezound radio than my GN.

Did this just drop right in and work on the Rezound?
Heard that the dropped 4g/3g radio issues are Verizon -related not the phone. That's what I have noticed on my RAZR as well as Rezound.
I definitely think the Rezound has better overall build quality than the Nexus.
One big factor for me was loosing the dedicated search and menu keys.

i like how this went from a thread about verizon locking the rezound bootloader but not the GNex bootloader to a debate over the phones!
you are all missing the point! haha
Obviously Samsung's new device(GS3) will change smartphones for sure. Once it releases, how many people here are switching to it once they have an available update?
I have until about March to make my decision. Im on Verizon and dont plan on changing, so i plan on choosing the 32gb model for only $50 more than the 16(worth it in my opinion because i can double that amount thanks to HTC leaving us a wonderful 32gb card w/ tbolt)
Most of the specs impress me, although im kind of wishing that a couple new 'top of the line' 4.0 devices release, just to give me more options, because honestly the S3 is the only phone on verizon(will be on verizon) that truely impresses me (Galaxy Nexus= no micro sd which puts 32gb card to no use, and cameras significantly better on S3).
Well, let me know! How many people plan on making the switch? Also, why or why not??

Pre-ordered first day love my thunderbolt been with it since day one but ready for something new plus my USB charging port no longer works and my volume rocker up crapped out on me ( dropped phone ) with those two reasons and the fact that I can't flash radios its time for an upgrade
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using xda premium
True, sounds like your thunderbokt has seen its day.. i just wish my upgrade date was available sooner, 7 more months with my phone might be alittle harder than i thought. the possible ics update might bring a new flavor to the phone, but i am also getting tired of it, as much as i love it
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
i would if i can keep my unlimited data plan, but thanks to verizon i think i will be with my thunderbolt for a long time.
I'm switching, luckily I had an upgrade available on one of my other phones on my account. And I was able to keep my unlimited data.

ordered one for my wife to replace her thunderbolt....her phone constantly freezes and apps are always crashing. she'll be much happer with the SGIII
i will be also. my upgrade is in august and i cant wait. im sure since i am not preordering i wont even be able to get one for months but oh well. it was either this or the nexus one which id much rather have the gs3 any day... im excited just hopefull theyll have some in stock
I know it's too late, but this info might help others down the road. I got 2 T-Bolts the day they came out last March and my upgrade date on both was something like November 12th. I spoke to 3 different reps at various points and told them all I am a long time Verizon customer and do not want to lose my unlimited data. I want my upgrade dates moved up so I can get 2 GSIII's now and keep my data and all 3 were fine with moving my upgrade date up--no checking with a supervisor or anything.
I know a lot can depend on who you get, but sometimes if you just call and ask you may be surprised.
Hope this works for someone moving forward.
they definately did not help me. they wouldnt push up my upgrade date from august 8 to now. sucks you would think after being a verizon customer for 12 years they may try to help you out a little bit more. it just makes you not want to give them your money at all but damn i wanna get rid of my bolt finally and get a gs3 for something new. the only reason i truly rooted my thunderbolt was to get better battery life and some customization of course.... damn i want a new phone
I advise anyone considering a GS3 from Verizon,
That you should think about and thank Verizon for the only GS3 with a locked bootloader....

Haha, yeah no real big surprise I suppose, though it was the first Samsung device I can think of to get such "special" treatment.
Despite Verizons' efforts to lock it down, it only took devs a day to achieve Root and recovery for it.
So I don't suppose that should stand in anyone's way of their decision now.
Update: still have 6 months with this thing, but i was able to preorder a nexus 7! Hopefully that keeps me occupied. Latest android software, pure google, quad core... I think i can last 6 more months

It'll get bypassed in no time. I wouldn't worry about it. So far the only thing this Tbolt has going for it is the camera and music software. SRS with Sony Xtreme Bass Ear buds sounds pretty awesome. That aside this is my second Tbolt in 6 days. My first one did a reboot on Saturday as I left Verizon so I figured it was just a fluke or update. The second time was when I was on my way home from college. Then Tuesday it boot looped then just sat at the HTC boot logo.
Yesterday I bought the GS3 (full retail, ouch!), and honestly I don't think it's that great. Yes it looks great, and the display is awesome, but I got so used to the awesome battery life of the TB with the extended battery, that I took it for granted. I barely used my phone today and I got down to 15% after a full day, whereas my TB would have been around 60-75% remaining. I also noticed that because it's so thin and slick, it's difficult to easily hold without it slipping.
I'm actually leaning towards returning the GS3 and going back to the TB.

Against my own advice of buying a Nexus I am about to buy a Dinc4G off contract and simply because I broke my Dinc2 screen two times in a row...
How is the Dinc4G? Any issues (software or hardware glitches)? I want to ensure that it is a good phone. I know it has great specs, but that is half the story. The other half is living with it (and I learned from my experience with the Droid X2 and Transformer prime)..
So any issues at all? Or is it smooth sailing?
EDIT: OMG! I bought the phone!
Now please god, let me make up some of that cash from the Dinc2 sale.

How is the Dinc4G? Any issues (software or hardware glitches)? I want to ensure that it is a good phone. I know it has great specs, but that is half the story. The other half is living with it (and I learned from my experience with the Droid X2 and Transformer prime)..
So any issues at all? Or is it smooth sailing?

i would say smooth sailing, well the sdcard thingy, but the only problem i have had is waiting for root.
I like mine. It's noticeably faster than the Incredible 2. I bought a 64GB SDCard from Amazon for $44.
I think you'd like it. S off is coming. I liked the og Inc better than my Inc 2 and the 4g reminds me of the first incredible. And you already know the devs are good ones.

One thing is my first 4g had about 10 dead pixels so I got a new one. The new one has some of the back light bleeding from the bottom bezel though but that's nbd to me
the form factor is closer to the og inc than inc2 (though not *That* different)
i have no complaints with mine, and plan on keeping it for a long time...even when the dlx/dna launches (ill just swap sims when i want use one or the other)

Hold on a sec! You said what now about SD cards? I guess it shouldn't be major issue but I'd like to hear moar!
I am about to finalize the deal and I don't wanna over think this. Yes, I was an idiot to drop my Dinc2 and crack the screen for a second time, and it cracked easily since I probably didn't install it properly first time around. And yes, it is gonna be expensive to go off contract, but anywho... i hope the resale value for the Dinc4G is good ones my upgrade comes around.... :/
Man, do I know how to waste good money . Anyway gang, I will shortly join you and we can continue our crusade of the missing OTA update for Key Lime Pie... (4.2, I guess, ain't it!)
Welcome back to the land of Dix! Thanks all! I hope I don't mess up my future phones like this... It is only after you drop and break a phone you realize that you have to treat these devices like babies... Don't Drop Them!
Personally, I like mine but the build quality has been questionable. I took my first one back after a day of use because the screen was discolored, used the next one for about a month with a creaky battery cover before a crack started forming at the headphone jack, and finally the one I have now seems acceptable. The only design annoyances I've found are that the camera lens clicks as it focuses (bad for video) and the buttons don't have much feedback. Reception could be better, but it generally works fine.
Other than that, good software, good screen, good battery life.

the sdcard issue is the internal sd, will not let you transfer apps to the extsd, but root might cure that, not sure. i think all the new phones have this issue as well.

This. Check out the original thread about the issue:

I swapped out my DInc4G twice with Best Buy because of the screen discoloration issue. The last phone I received from Best Buy had the same issue and HTC was kind enough to exchange my phone for a new one. I'm currently on my third DInc4G. All was fine until a month ago when the screen discoloration appeared on my current phone. I may contact HTC again but I've been busy and don't feel like going through the hassle of setting up my phone again.
I haven't experienced any other issues with the phone. The battery life is great compared to my OG DInc, and once we get s-off, it will be an even better phone.

Haha, damn. I just bought it. Anyway, sounds like the screen discoloration issue is primarily due to the glue not having fully cured and all? And I was guessing this has solid build quality. Well, you always have a few bad ones, but I wonder if I activate a Dinc4G on my line and I have issues down the road, can I do a Certified replacement from Verizon?

That is an ICS issue, not specific to this phone. I'm hopeful there is a fix once rooted.

No probs with mine and I've had it for a few months now. Accessories are quite limited. Other than that, it's a great phone.
But I like the Rezound a little better. The email implementation feature wise isn't as good on the DINC 4G but it works well.
Enjoy your new toy! Now go get yourself a case!

Unrelated question, but performance wise is the Dinc4G better than the Gnex? Just curious, as I bought this over the Gnex as it has newer processor etc.

YEAH! I just got mine and already very happy. The 4G is the first thing to blow my mind! It is better than the WiFi speed I get at my room (though right next to the router, I should get exceptional WiFi)!
Now, get me up to speed, y'all! Is it okay to update to the latest OTA? And do we have root? Or should I just wait till the S-OFF rather than root it now? :cyclops: :fingers-crossed:
Cheers!

well, we are waiting on a s-off exploit, yes you need the new ota to run the exploit. i would wait for that if i were you, but i don't know how long it will be before it's released. that's about it.
