Virtual control issues using emulators - HTC Rezound

I have noticed that FPse, N64oid and the other Oids have response and sustained press issues on the Rezound. Control movement is not steady and an example of sustained presses not working is when holding down a button for steering or the gas peddle in a racing game. Buttons do not function as being pressed down beyond about a second.
Same app versions work fine on the D3, Flyer, Thrive and Razr. Testing a Razr now.

Could be an issue with the app compensating? Does the dev say the Rezound screen resolution is supported?

I thought that, but the Thrive works and same res as the Rez. Maybe a DPI issue though, since the Rez is a lot more.
I will send the devs a note, but would not hold breath for a quick fix (if at all for some apps). Bummer, since the display is amazing.

It could be that the phone only has 4 multitouch points enabled atm. Wonder why they didn't enable more like the 10 on RAZR.

Touchscreen gaming performance

For those that play games on the Rezound, how is your touchscreen performing?
On my phone, the multitouch seems to not register when I touch 2 points on the screen. For example, when using an emulator, if I am touching the screen to move and then press the screen on the other side to jump, the screen stops registering the touch on the movement stick. This makes it so that I can't move and jump/fire/etc. If I press a button, then I stop moving in the direction that I'm heading and need to lift my finger off the screen and touch it again tostart moving again. This happens in n64oid, games like muffin knight, etc.
Want to see if anyone else is having this problem before I take my screen protector off to see if that is the problem (it is on perfectly!).
Running CleanROM 1.5 (but has happened with prior versions of the ROM also and don't think it's a ROM issue).
I just played super 64, super smash brothers, and bomberman on n64oid, and had zero issues. Don't recall multi touch falling me in any other apps or games. I am sick without a screen protector.
Everything works fine for me with touchscreen gaming. I'm on RezRom 1.5. My only issue is that it's too easy for me to mistakenly trigger the search softkey by mistake... Not a big deal, I just need to adjust the way I hold the phone.
Also I have a screen protector on mine as well if that means anything.
Sometimes launchers, and lockscreen apps mess up the multitouch. Could be your problem....

I play shadow gun and dead space and its all really smooth and responsive. I'm using a screen protector (though that shouldn't make a difference)
Edit: lol I said using a touch screen instead of screen protector
Okay, thanks for all the replies. I just installed CleanROM 2.1, doing everything from scratch and the touchscreen is working as it should again. I'll have to monitor what I install and see if things get worst. Will also test CleanROM 1.5 again with a clean install if I go back.
I read at some point that ICS will feature USB hosting. Is this true? If it is, your problem may become (if it hasn't already for some lol) become sort of obsolete

Here's a link confirming USB hosting:

Though I've seen a bunch of bluetooth controllers working too.

Okay, switched back to CleanROM 1.5 with a clean install and still works fine. So I broke it somehow before....

I'm running ICS on my Rezound right now. How do I enable this feature?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
Never tried it so dunno. The youtube vid has an app associated with it. Try checking it's reviews on the market/googling it to make sure it's compatable with ICS. Otherwise look (market/google) for cwiid. I've used that before on Linux to hook up Wii remotes and somebody ported it to android.
for some phones (depending on bluetooth stack usually) WiiMotes and PS3 Controllers can be paired and used. Theres also a company or 2 that is making (has made?) controllers specifically for phones, one has a adjustable clamp to hold your phone.
I would be more interested in a 360 controller or a mouse and keyboard. Not fond of the ps3 controller

Well, just to wrap thus thread up, I found the offending app. No Lock was causing the issue with the touchscreen. Uninstalling and rebooting fixes the issue.

we wont get this until an aosp rom is released that enables ALL BT functionality. Sense breaks it unfortunately.

How quick does SG3 wake?

I'm sooo close to caving in and replacing my GS2 for a 3, one of my very few pet peeves with the SG2 is how slow it wakes..
Seeing a lot of you guys came from GS2s I figured who best could answer my question of does the GS3 snap to life faster then your old GS2?
Also as long a you're answering what is the feature that most impressed you coming from the GS2? TIA.

Honestly, I find it does wake quicker than my i9100 did. Hopefully more will confirm as it may be subjective, but it tends to wake in under a second when hitting power button on mine anyway where my SGS2 was like 2 or 3 seconds when waking.
For me, you can really tell the higher resolution screen which was a plus for me. The LED light is incredible useful (no more waking phone to see if I have any messages). And the third was definitely LTE which is so much faster in my area than HSPA which seems to be really congested. Those three things made it worth the upgrade alone. All in all, maybe not a HUGE upgrade but a decent enough upgrade for myself

Nice... I know that screen is very nice.. I haven't seen anyone posting anything about the GS3 display staying on while your eyes are still on it, has this feature been included with the AT&T GS3???

Yes, it actually not your eyes it's detecting, but face. Love this feature, very useful when reading something or playing puzzle games.
The way it's working, it turns front camera on a few seconds before it dims the screen, if it detect a face, nothing happens, if no face near, it dims the screen for 5 seconds, then it checks again for a face, if found it, it turns up the brightness and resets screen timeout, otherwise shuts it off.
Wakeup time has a slight lag, but it's not annoying. However if you are using something like SetCPU and set profile to turn down CPU clock to lowest possible when screen is off, then it might not response to touches after wakeup for a few seconds.

Great to hear.. I just found there is a patch to let the hard home button wake the phone which is very cool...
Having a hard time justyifying replacing my GS2 after only 8 months but damn this GS3 looks sweet....
Not to mention I'm seriously thinking of putting my iPad (Gen 1) on eBay along with my GS2, the new Nexus 7 tablet for $199 looks just as inviting as the GS3

Awesome, it'd be getting the AT&T version... Now I see the GS3 Red pre-orders have started and will be available on the 29th, my resistance it's getting weaker by the minute
How have the ROMs been so far for the GS3 (the AT&T versions)?

First phone that's truely innovate in a long time

I have to say, that this LG G2 is the first phone that i felt like, "wow, they really thought and tinkered with most of the issues i have with big screen andriod phone"
to list a few,
1. Battery! I love it. 5 hours of streaming Pandora on Speaker phone at work site, and BT tethering for couple of hours. and 4 hours on on screen time.. i'm left with 40% at the end of day...
2. One Hand keyboard. DUH!!!! why it took so long for someone to figure this out!?!?!?
3. numbers on keyboard. !!! DUH!!! we have big screen.. why don't others have this factory before? why SWIFTKEY don't???
4. LOCK pattern locate on touch location. so simple yet so good.
5.. double tap to wake. FANTASTIC.
6 Back buttons.. took me 1/2 day to get use to buttons and learn to feel them. this deserves innovation award by itself!!!!
7. CAMERA that actually takes good photos!!! (HTC TOO but hey)
8 Wireless Storage.. makes life so simple when its just done for you!
9. Works with Klipsch S4 headphones.. Vol, Mic, select.. all works!!!! Samsung never worked
10. IR Blaster
11. Brightness adjustment. Your Auto is not my Ideal Auto brightness. ADJUSTABLE Baseline!!
12. Front touch button - notification pull down... crazy good. my thumb ain't that long.. and this is perfect!

I couldn't agree more. You can gripe about the plastic casing, maybe. Other than that, LG knocked it out of park. The negative reviews are asinine. It's their opinion, that's mine
I was a little bummed/tricked by the single speaker even though it looks like there are two but no biggie. Completely agree with the rest! ?

#8 can be achieved with any phone using Samba filesharing app.
Just saying
Can #9 be confirmed? And is it referring to the S4i's or S4a's because to my knowledge the regular S4's don't have any buttons.
Edit: #9!! Meant to say #9.

Actually, 1 is bigger on the s notes, but I'm not sure about them being better.
2 is already available
3 Yep
4 No idea what you meant
5 Already on windows phone
6 I've thought of this since 3 years ago and LG actually came up with it. It's great, but it has some downs.
7 Hell yes
8 Yeaa
9 N/A
10 Already on S4 etc
11 iPhone has it, if I'm not wrong.
12 This is really good, but I have big hands so not gonna use it much. The customisability is good for people coming from sammy.
13 There is actually built in screen off animations, like CRT, which almost all cyanogenmods use.
14 You can choose unlock animation, which is cool imo. I love the white hole animation.
15 Awesome notification lights. On front and back, so whether it's face up or face down you get the message.
16 Aspect ratio correction. Because the screen is actually 1080 x 1770 or something like that because of the on screen buttons, LG thought it'll be useful.
17 Quiet mode. Is it on any other phones? I think it's really useful.
The G2 is probably the most customisable phone on stock software out there. Love or hate, your call.
Cyanogen was my first taste I got of Quiet hours and I really missed it on TouchWiz so I was happy to see it here.
These things may be on other phones and/or available with apps but it is pretty dang nice to get them from the start in one package.

1) Note line and maxx line already achieved this.
2) Note line (probably others)
3) Note line again. Not sure why 3rd party keyboards don't have an option for this. I love a number row.
4) New afaik(actually nice since if you do it in different spots it doesn't leave a grease trail showing your pattern)
5) New and cool
6) Meh. Not sure its a positive
7) Others have had 'good' but its one of the first implementations of OIS.
8) I think some people were saying this is a JB feature.
9) err... ok
10) been there, done that.
11) That is really nice. Haven't seen it before
12) You mean changing the soft buttons?
The g2 puts a lot of good ideas together, but its not terribly innovative all on its own. At least its better than samsungs "you can make a video wall out of note 3's!" Lol.
#11 !!!!!!
thanks for pointing this out!... I like the concept of auto-brightness. especially when I turn it on at night to look at something, but auto brightness has ALWAYS made the screen too dim for me. Been waiting for someone to implement this setting forever!
I like the phone a lot too... minus the software. LG really killed the experience with all the unnecessary clutter features. Anxiously awaiting the CM treatment!
+Brad Piff Why do you say "minus the software"? What don't you like about the software? I am thinking about getting the G2.

I had a Nexus4 running CM before this (R.I.P), so you kinda get a feel for what my preferences are. CM is powerful but simple.
For one, there's a lot of bloat software on the G2... granted that's with any phone you get from a provider. I'm not a fan of how LG did all the setting menus... being so accustomed to stock Android. The dialer is nice. I don't like how the front touch home button works (long hold for app switching, short hold+swipe for Google Now) and the far right button being Settings. I don't like the Notification pull down window... I want it to be clean, but it has Screen Brightness/Phone Volume built in.

Thankfully most of the gripes the majority of people have with the stock software bloat can be removed by mods and/or custom ROM we already have available. The only thing we cant really get around at this time if the menu button issue. Many probably wont care though coming from other phones with a physical menu button still anyway, but those of us who got used to the stock Android feel since ICS are now missing the way menu is supposed to work.
What custom ROMs do you speak of? I've only seen one really.

I should mention the down sides though.. all the crappy stock apps, are memory hog.

BLOAT BLOAT AND MORE BLOAT!!!
This phone has a built-in flash light accessible via widget. I had seen it in TiBu bit couldn't know how to launch it until just now when I went rummaging through the widget list. Now if we could just add it as a toggle in the notification area! Another great easter egg!

Modern Combat 5 Slow Sensitivity

When I turn corners or aim down sight its really slow even after I maxed out the sensitivity in-game.
This leaves me at a huge disadvantage, for example I'll see someone on my screen and try to turn at them while they're running away and my crosshair can't keep up.
It's really annoying and I'm wondering if theres a way to fix this or if so is there anyone else there having this problem?
Just curious because it could either be that the game has only just came out or it's my controller/device.
I'm using a
Nexus 7 2013 stock 4.4.4 root
Sixaxis app with BT Genuine PS3 Controller
The game just sucks! How many FPS are you getting (check with FPS meter from play store) if you've low fps,it'll eat you alive.
We've to wait until gameloft update it with increased sensitivity. Sensitivity is just so damn low even at highest! I'm also having problem with controls, it sometimes struck! I needs to lift all my fingers from screen for 2secs before I use game register my touch properly (i'm dead before I could touch my screen)
On iPad ,there seems to be no issue with sentivity, people seems to 360 with single swipe easily!

General Zenfone 9 experience so far

Had the Zenfone 9 for a little while and thought I'd share some thoughts. Been using the device for as my main machine for basic work (email, document writing, ssh/remote management, video calling) and personal applications (social media, reading, watching videos, not gaming). Here's been my experience.
Size/Screen
despite people focusing on how compact the phone is it doesn't feel that small in a good way (especially compared to the iPhone mini). Screen size does not interfere with any applications I've used the phone for, even reading which I had some worries about before purchase. The biggest downside of the compact size I ran into was the typing experience, but that becomes much better with a keyboard that has good gesture support and some aggressive autocorrect. Overall it feels great in the hand as someone with large hands.
Visually the screen is sharp, has great viewing angles, and the brightness is good even for outdoor use in direct sunlight. I can't say much for the refresh rate since I keep it on 60 but I will say the DC dimming works a charm even if it's only available on 60 Hz mode. Touch is responsive and i haven't experienced any touch jitters, but the palm rejection is bad enough that I'd call the phone unusable without a case if you tend to hold the phone like I do.
Gesture Controll
As a long-time Oneplus user I do miss the 3 way switch for the ringer, but have found a compromise using the press and hold on the power button as a toggle between modes which has been working well for me. The other smart key functionality of swiping on the power button I've turned off as it's way too easy to accidentally activate when held in the right hand.
The screen off gestures for media control which I enjoyed on Oneplus are here in the Asus but are currently broken, the "ll" pause gesture instead reading out the time and not pausing the video for some reason, when that's fixed at least they are all very responsive.
The back double tap gesture is very inconsistent, I keep it on for the flashlight and haven't had any issues with false activations, but it often takes a few tries to activate.
Battery/Charging
Battery life has been good, getting through a day of heavy use without a problem on 60Hz mode. Charging is fast but does heat up the phone, I've kept mine on ultra steady charge mode which slows down charging to dispel heat and battery longevity issues (around 10W, normal steady charge is around 13W). The charger that came with the device is a C to C charger with a cable that works for data and power.
Performance
I'm not a mobile gamer so I've yet to push the processor in any meaningful way, badly optimized apps that I have had issues with in the past all work smoothly. Video playback/acceleration have been smooth as well as processing large file transfers. Boot up and restart times are very snappy.
Networking/Connectivity
No issues with my Canadian SIM, dual sim works fine. WiFi hasn't had problems with my WiFi 5 and 6 Routers even in dual channel mode which works seamlessly on dual channel networks connecting in both bands. 5G isn't widespread in my area so i haven't had a chance to test it, but 4G+ works as expected. On the physical ports side I have only been able to get USB 2 speeds out of the USB C port for file transfers which isn't really an issue for my use and the headphone jack packs a punch running my DT-770 80 ohms without a problem.
Cameras
They're definitely cameras, I'm not really a camera guy so I wouldn't know what to look for. I haven't had any noticable issues, photos do take a bit longer than my previous phones from pressing the button to the photo being taken but I assume that's because there's a lot more photo processing going on with newer phones. The back lenses do need to be wiped off most of the time since at least for me my fingers tend to naturally rest on them. Front camera also hasn't given me any issues but I'm not a huge fan of the metal ring inside which makes the hole punch more noticeable.
ZenUI
Played around with the launcher a bit before switching off of it, seems like a good relatively stock Android experience with some quality of life improvements. Hasn't given me a reason to switch away from Niagra launcher though (which works great on this device). The pull down menu looks good but could use a bit more in the way of customizability, notifications are a bit intrusive on the smaller screen but the smaller notifications option fixes that pretty well in exchange for needing to pull down the notification shade for quick access. Some other small gripes are that the bar underneath the keyboard is unable to be turned off is quite large relative to the screen height and in the activities view the app icons are above the apps which makes things like locking apps a bit difficult one handed.
Overall
This phone is definitely a purchase I don't regret, all the issues I've had thus far are definitely fixable through updates. I haven't had any of the hardware issues I've heard others mention like rattly volume buttons. Hopefully it does well enough for Asus to consider giving it longer support and the attention it needs to get its minor current issues fixed, or at least well enough to get decent support for third party roms. The price even importing the device from HK to Canada is very competitive for what you get. If there as any benchmarks people want me to run or questions they have about the device I'll keep an eye on the responses. Also if anyone has fixes for the issues mentioned I'm all ears (palm rejection, media control, etc...)
Thank you for the nice review.
I'm still waiting for my piece.
I want to ask you, since you are using 3rd launcher, I wonder if you are using gestures or navigation bar?
Purchased from mi4canada, came quick via DHL from HK and at a good price by Canadian import standards. It's unclear when the device will officially make its way to Canada, the zenfone 8 took a long while.

I'm using gestures, they work well with 3rt party launchers. Can't get rid of the bean at the bottom but it's easy to ignore.

So my hope for Nova Launcher lives on! There was a glitch on all new mobile phones since A11. It only worked like a miracle on a couple of phones. I'm glad that Zenfone is one of them. Another reason for even greater joy.

Not that i see at a cursory look, although I'm unfamiliar with the glitch so i don't know exactly what to look for. Best i can tell it works like it should.

Just wanted to add from my experience. I've been using nova launcher prime since I got the phone (over a week ago). And I have noticed that rarley but sometimes when you press the home button or unlock the screen you will get a blank screen showing only the wallpaper and only after you press the home button for a second time will the home screen actually load.
FYI I am using the navigation bar (buttons) and not the gesture one (I just hate the incompatibility with a lot of swipe supported apps e.g. Gmail, Solid Explorer etc ) so take it with a grain of salt if you use gesture you might not encounter this problem.
I have also encountered some other minor bugs but overall I am very pleased with the phone coming from my Galaxy S10.

Like on other phones when using third-party launchers there is definitely a slight delay (a second or so) when using the home gesture until the launcher becomes responsive and starts accepting input.

Haven't experienced this issue with Niagra after over a week of use now (or on previous phones I've put it on), may be an issue with your launcher. A second delay would be very noticable.
Cheers for the review - very helpful as am considering getting one.
Looking around at the benchmarks from different reviews, the scores vary quite a bit. It looks like it depends on which performance mode it's in - high performance mode vs dynamic mode, and according to Anandtech the Zenfone 8's performance would also change depending on which refresh rate you had it in. But many reviewers haven't said what mode or refresh rate they've been using.
Could you perhaps run the Jetstream 2.0 benchmark (opens and runs in the website) and/or PCMark Work 3.0 (play store) in dynamic performance mode? In 120hz would be fantastic or in 60hz would still be good either.
It's a bit of pain and would take your time so perfectly understandable if you don't want to, so would like to say thanks for the review anyway!
@Plasmac
All of these on 120Hz, no performance modes enabled (manually disabled for pcmark which triggered an automatic one)
Jetstream 2: 128.004
Pcmark work 3.0: 16371
Geekbench 5: 1294/4075

Thank you very much for doing all those. It's really appreciated.
The non-performance mode isn't reducing the performance by much at all. That settles it for me then, the Anandtech review of the 8 put me off, but it seems tsmc 4nm has allowed good performance and decent battery life, so the 9 it is.

The old known bug is sadly also present on this phone using gesture navigation.
Sadly the standard launcher is no substitute for Nova, so pick the lesser evil

Well thank you.
Can you try the solution via tasker? (I still don't have a mobile phone at home)
I managed to use the Nova launcher on the Pppo find N thanks to the Tasker app and this instruction:
Nova Launcher
Some lucky ones who have already received it could kindly try nova launche? I am especially interested in the transition between the external and internal screen portrait to landacape. Thank you in advance 😁😁

There’s a lot to like about the way the Zenfone 9 looks. The obvious starting place is the size – thanks to using a small 5.9in display this is a small phone by modern standards, and at 169g it’s also impressively lightweight.
At 9.1mm thick it’s not the thinnest phone around, but you’d certainly not call it chunky, and that very slight extra thickness feels irrelevant once you factor in how compact the phone is overall.

Sadly didn't work either. But from what I've read it's Google's fault and may have been fixed with A13, so maybe there's hope for the Z9 too
