[Q] Rooting on Vibrant doesn't work - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Impatience got the better of me so I decided that I want to root after I heard only Samsung Galaxy S 4G got the Gingerbread upgrade.
I've managed to bypass the the "e:Verification Signature Failed". by using a 2e program of some sort.
I thought the root was a success by using an AIO Vibrant Toolbox. However, when I checked Titanium backup and ROM manager, they all say that I don't have root. Busybox isn't there and Superuser does barely anything.
I've also checked using the file manager and I realized that "su" file is missing.
I've tried rooting directly on the phone and tried numerous of other programs like SuperOneClick. None of them worked at all.
So what is exactly the problem here?

Do you have update.zip on your sd/card

I would suggest odin to stock then try rooting again...
I have went to stock so many times and superoneclik never gave me any problem...

Major issues with Lg506go(Optimus) 2.2.1 rooting...

Ok! Hi again folks. Today i was trying to root my wifes new lg506go(Optimus) and got a bit surprised with how the phone would respond to that. At first i thought it was going to be pretty simple using z4 root method. But it didnt work at all, tried a few times by the way. Then i decided to give it a go to superoneclick method but never made it either. Tried UniversalAndroot also just to make shure and it didnt work also. Downloaded Optimusroot.zip and tried the ADB method and every command was accepted but then when i enter the command rageagainstthecage it didnt work also. Some files are missing. It has superuser already installed but cant gain complete root acces. Oh, by the way tried gingerbreak also with no succes. Rom manager is installed but i cant flash the recovery because it doesnt have complete permissons. Can someone give me a different idea or am i just an unlucky guy? Thanks in advance!
Nevermind folks! I was using an older gingerbreak version than 1.2 and it was downloaded from a different website. Just downloaded gingerbreak 1.2 from here and the phone was rooted!

[Q] Preferred root method for Bell Atrix 2.3.6 [A] Manual way

Hey, there seems to be a few of us(or maybe it's just me) confused about how we can root after the new update.
I just wanted to know if there was a confirmed safe way to restore root.
Thanks
Update:
Thanks to superkev. Manual way works. I can also confirm it also.
Also remember to keep your phone awake (ie. not in the locked screen)
superkev said:
I tried the manual instructions from here: http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root
Step 6 failed for me, possibly because I had used this method to root 2.3.4. The rest of it went perfectly. I think the 2.3.6 update changed the permissions of the su binary, so these instructions just reset that to what they're supposed to be. I am rooted again!

I can't seem to find any root information on bell atrix 2.3.6 either.
saw some unconfirmed reports that superoneclick worked, but it doesn't work for me just sits at "Failed to set prot mask"
and then "WaitforDevice" forever...
if anyone has legit root info for the bell atrix 2.3.6 posting it would be greatly appreciated.
All I want is to install it! But im in usa so I need someone to make a fruitcake of it for me. Oh and I have also read super one click is supposedly working for some.

I've got super one click working but superuser keeps denying all my root permissions without giving me a prompt.
DANGER!
So I tried SuperOneClick 2.3.1 and got my Bell Atrix 2.3.6 rooted.... all seemed good and Root Checker told me I was rooted. Light Flow got Super User permission and I thought I was gold!
Then my phone started freezing up and rebooting. Now I can't use the phone because it is crashing every 30 seconds. I would say avoid SuperOneClick (at least this version) for now!!
Oh, and SuperOneClick won't unroot my device so I'm kind of stuck. I would rather not reset my device and have to reinstall all my apps (which are backed up with Titanium Back-up, but which of course needs root to work...).
I'm just trying GingerBreak to unroot so we'll see how that goes.....
---------- Post added at 02:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:44 AM ----------
... OK... so GingerBreak unrooted my phone but it is still completely hooped and the crashing woes continue... anyone with a solution on which system files I might be able to replace to fix this?!?!?
Aaaarrrg!
I tried wit Pete's first and it failed but super one click worked right from the first attempt. Before doing that though, I did a factory reset and started from scratch. Then I restored my apps only with TB. All is OK except that in market my apps list is empty with a message saying that my purchased apps will appear here. I have read that it is a known problem, but not necessarily with this update or because of rooting. In my experience super one click has otherwise been OK. Hope that helps. Don't have a solution for you except maybe trying to do a factory reset first if you are able to and then try again.

Hey thanks. Yes, I ended up having to do a reset from the boot menu (power+vol down) and do an 'Android Recovery' which apparently wipes the system files and reinstalls the OS. My TB backups are still sitting on the internal SD but I am hesitant to re-root so I can reinstall TB and restore... what build of SuperOneClick did you use?
I tried with SuperOneClick 2.3.1.0 (latest). It says that it worked, but even after rebooting, my apps are being denied root access.
UPDATE:
I tried the manual instructions from here: http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root

I just updated to 2.3.6 and used the Briefmobile method to root and can also confirm that it is working. I had previously used this method to do 2.3.4 and had no issues on 2.3.6. Cheers
I might caution those who are not on AT&T about using the "manual" root method from BriefMobile. It was built with AT&T 2.3.4 files. Flashing the root.img in fastboot flashes those files to your /preinstall folder possibly hosing your Bell specific files. This has in the past, and possibly could in the future cause issues when trying to install future updates.
For those of you who have done it, can you look in /preinstall/md5 and see if you have att files?

superoneclick 2.3.1.0
this works flawlessly and on first attempt. so easy!
gingerbreak 1.2 didn't work this time, but it was useful to me for unrooting.
just make sure you do that before installing the update, and follow the superoneclick instructions.
too early to comment on battery life, and other than the keyboard I don't notice any aesthetic changes.
bell atrix
Remember to flash back the original preinstall image to avoid update issues.
Cheers!

That directory does contain some ATT and Cingular files. However, I used this method to root 2.3.4 and it didn't prevent me from installing the 2.3.6 update. I'm hoping I won't have any trouble going to ICS (fingers crossed that such a thing will even happen!)

Good deal. I had to help a few revert that folder when updating from 2.2.2 to 2.3.4 due to missing the gameloft stuff, but if it didn't effect your update that's good news.
Just in case, here's the 2.3.6 Bell stock preinstall.img to flash via moto-fastboot (thanks to NFHimself's new Gobstopper): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C098P9IV

I used the manual way to root with the 2.3.6 update but TB is saying it can't can't gain root access and su keeps fc'ing on me. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I also tried the superone click method but during the exe install on my pc it keeps stopping saying i don't have an internet connection????

that's weird. you definitely don't need internet access to perform the root (i was offline), provided you have superoneclick and phone drivers installed i'd say. does the driver check feature complain about it too?
Yeah, i thought it was strange too. It doesn't give me that error with the driver check, only when it is going through the install process of the exe.
Sometimes you need to treat your phone like a computer when it starts acting weird, save yourself some hassle and just do a format/factory reset and start fresh.
i used Doomlord's Rooting Toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1319653 it worked in 30 sec
Link to the exact Superoneclick you used? I tried the Doomloader link but it's broken.

[Q] Strange rooting problem!

Hey!
I was trying to root my friends phone, since I got more experience than him on rooting.
I downloaded Super One Click Root 2.3.1 and rooting it was a success.
I got Superuser and Busybox installed, but here's where my problem starts.
I still have the original recovery(download mode) look, so it hasn't changed.
I can't backup my phone using ROM manager, it says whole-verification failed(or something like that).
I can't use Odin v1.85 because I'm getting stuck on Setupconnection.
So, shortly said, I can't backup or restore anything. But I do have ROOT access.
Because of that I don't wanna continue installing any ROM's or Kernels!
Any kind soul wanna help me out? <3
This isn't anything like rooting a Nexus S

LOST ROOT

Phone has been fine, rooted with cwm5.5. This is wifey phone so I keep messing with it at a minimum. At some point I noticed it no longer has root. It runs stock 4.1.2. With a couple of root apps - such as AdAway-which is no longer working and has error message "Either subinary could not be found or you did not allow root permissions for AdAway"
Superuser app has this error "There are currently no superuser app policies." then "Superuser binary must be updated" attempting to update results to error "There was an error installing superuser. "
I rooted the phone again with the same CWM ver. file. attempted to flash superuser but it errored and aborted installation. I rebooted and installed rom manager so that I could update CWM. That errored out as well. Root verifier confirms there's no root on the phone. I have installed busy box but it has the same error message no root access.
I thought to root with CWM ver 6.0.4.6 but installation aborted. I tried TWRP but it aborted as well. Only CWM 5.5 works which my normal routed is then to flash superuser, install rom manager and then have it update to CWM to ver 6.xx. But his time none of these is working. How do I regain root?

Initially I had actually, but camcorder issues, modems with sporty service ... we a deal breaker. Si I just restored it to stock with kies to avoid more lip. Only thing I did was root the stock so I could install a few apps such as AdAway. I don't plan to do stock on this unless I can get get rooted stock rom.

When I rooted my phone I was wary of using methods that would have me going through either download mode or having to install a custom recovery (which eventually became pointless since I had to do both to flash roms anways lol) but at the beginning I was trying to use something simple.. while googling I stumbled upon this http://www.kingoapp.com/ and rooted from there.. it's like a one-click root kind of thing and seems to keep the root working regardless.. maybe you wanna check it out and see if it helps, in case you loose your root again. If you wanna run your phone stock but rooted, at least after doing the restoration via keys you'll keep the stock samsung recovery.
Hope it helps!

I know, it doesn't show our device, but I kind of went with the home page "root all devices" statement they had and it worked perfectly fine. I did the same with my sister's Note 2 t0ltetmo which is in fact a canadian Videotron phone I gave her and worked fine too. I do not believe that that Note 2 is in the list either, but it still worked

Hey it worked some - I decided to test it on my old Captivate. The only thing is it doesn't install CWM/TWRP or similar. So I cannot install a custom ROM. Is it not supposed to install a custom recovery? If not how do I do that having rooted with Kingoapp?
Thanx again for suggesting this app.

My pleasure, and glad to hear it worked! And no, lol, sorry. The app only roots your phone, but it does not install a recovery. The good thing about it is that at least you can run stock and use any rooted apps, like I do with my Asus HD7 (for which, unfortunately I haven't found either a custom recovery or a custom ROM to flash, so I run it stock but mess around with root apps)
However..
I looked into this Galaxy Captive thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2547997 and didn't find a recovery itself that could be downloadble.
So while googling I stumbled upon this: http://true-android.blogspot.ca/2013/10/how-to-install-custom-recovery-in-most.html.
I my english is good enough to understand, it would seem as if the goomanager app allows u to install recoveries directly from your phone, so you could maybe try if you wish.. If u do, please let us know how it worked, as I'm sure others also would benefit from this.
If you want a CWM recovery for either the Note i717, the Note2 T889 or the S2 T989 let me know and I'll upload them, as those are the only ones I have ATM.
Cheers!

[Q] S4 Rooting Problem

Hello! I am an extremely newbie in rooting so this is my issue. I just rooted my S4 I9505XXUGNH8. I used odin and the root file from chainfire. It passed. So I thought there' s no problem but after 5 hours or so, when I lock my phone it restarts. Plus my bluetooth won't turn on. So I saw this option in SuperSU that I presumed will unroot my phone. I clicked it and say yes. I restarted my phone, the said app was not there anymore. Checked root checker and it says no proper root access or something like that so I thought I already unrooted my phone. I tried even SRS Root, it says that my device has no root. But the issues were still there. I tried to create new file from my sd card so I was expecting it will not work because of that Kitkat sd card restriction stuff but it worked. I tried to update my firmware but the phone didn't allow me because it was modified. So reinstall SuperSU again, and it says SU Binary not found, like that. Now I really have no idea what to do. Please help me. Thanks and sorry for my novel like post.

Seems like you might have used the auto root package from another firmware version as this sounds like some kernel issues. Since you know Odin works, then you can just reset and reinstall the NH8. This will get everything backup and running again (you can try not wiping, but possible issues can arise from this too - fair warning and best to backup internal storage to PC for safe keeping). As far as rooting goes afterwards, put Chainfire's SuperSU zip on your phone, find an updated custom recovery such as TWRP, Philz, or CWM and install via Odin. Once installed, you must immediately boot to recovery before the OS loads so you can use the recovery to install the zip or the stock system will rewrite the original recovery to it. Then you will be rooted with no other changes to the phone that could affect functionality or usability.
