There were a few people over at Androidforums that said they did, but they were not confirmed. I still don't have it yet, but it's only 9:30 here
Forgot the time changes, im just curious im runnin the third leak and will not be doin the ota unless one of our hard workin devs crack that first and sorry if there was a thread already too, mind is always all over and i forget to search untill i make a new post haha

I spoke to a Verizon rep yesterday, and from what info he gave me (unconformed) that the 2.1 official update has to be pushed via pc, sync not OTA. Something about the 2.1 first leak was really verizons 2.0 update went wrong. Like I said, its all he said, but on a good note. I told him my modified phone was having problems and he sent me out a new one, 1 day shipping. Kind of nice, and great customer service.

Modded Handsets Getting OTA?
I am curious if only people running Eris stock 1.5 are getting the Verizon OTA or if modded handsets are getting it too?
Specifically, I would be interested in hearing if anyone running the "official" 2.1 leak (someone who unzipped file PB00IMG.zip from their sd card [don't know if this is considered a "rooted" or "leaked" version]) has received the Verizon approved (May 11) 2.1 update?
I'm running the PB00IMG.zip 2.1 on my Eris and have not yet gotten the OTA. Wonder if I will? Thanks for sharing.
I downgraded to 1.5 from v3 root last night, nothing on the east coast here...

Verizon reps usually don't know what they're talking about. They just here rumors like we do. There's been a few people that have gotten the OTA. They said they'll push it out to 1000 the first day, then 9000 the next, so on and so forth. You've just got to be patient my friends.

From what most of the devs have said, you'll still be able to get the official ota even if you're on the leak. Unless they do a **** move and change one of the versions (baseband, kernel, or something. forget which one) to a lower version than what the leakers have. Then you won't be able to. But I doubt they'd do that, as I don't think htc cares and probably leaked 2.1 themselves.
Wifes Eris is stock 1.5 and nothing on hers yet. Will drop a note here when/if it gets an ota request.

Somebody teach this guy how to grab the download link so we can get the OTA file.
The way I understand it, he would have to start the update, loosing root in the process. Sounds like a win/lose situation. BUT taking one for the team OS always nice.

Can you do the following and send it to jcase and zifnab06 , see below quote from jcase:
QUOTE=jcase;6454172]If you are a leaker, please follow this tutorial when updating to the OTA. Get us the url to the OTA zip please.
Code:
If you are interested in looking at the process that HTC/Verizon uses for the OTA updates, you can get the URL for the OTA zip the following way:
Run logcat on the pc and accept the update on the phone
$ adb logcat > logcat_accept.txt
This will sit like this (it continues to log output into the output file) until the phone reboots. At that point, the adb logcat job will terminate, and the name of the zip file will be indicated in the logfile in a message similar to:
W/SystemUpdateHelper( 64): !!! REBOOTING TO INSTALL /cache/desirec-ota-104882.7b1e5cca.zip !!!
Then, take the name of the file and paste it on the end of android.clients.google.com/updates/partner, for instance, for the Eris 1.17.605.1 OTA, the complete url is:
https://android.clients.google.com/updates/partner/desirec-ota-104882.7b1e5cca.zip

I really would like to add to the community, but i don't want to lose my root. I suspect there will be a huge swath of people to get it today. I am not even on VZW, i am on page plus. I know how to grab the link, just don't want to lose wifi tether and oc.
im a bit confused i read the WIP root thread can we take the ota and still be safe and be able to get rooted ? or should be just wait ? the popup is annoying me
They said they found a exploit that might be promising.... Might is the key word.
As for the few dozen people that wanted to watch that horrible movie and took the update, only time will tell.

Well unless something new has happened we can't root anyway so why would it hurt to take it. I updated mine 5 minutes after I got it on launch day
Sent from my EVO 3D in the now or later network
Because the ota update may have closed the "hole" or exploit to root..
Never just take the first few updates until you confirm they are worth it. And to watch a movie that Seth rogan blows in and fix a few apps is not worth losing root, the ota might have just caused the root Nazi

Could I run a RUU and go back to before I took the ota
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
I took the update. Root may or may not ever happen... I had to get my phone functioning correctly. HTC may still unlock this bad boy too...
Ultimately I think you just have to decide what's best for u. Root will have to be attained on phones with the update eventually if development wants to grow.
I don't mind waiting because battery life has been really good for me... That's my main reason for rooting anyway. You may want it for different reasons
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
yea the could careless about the movie honestly i want root but i was reading about it should be ok to take the ota and till get root but idk
Team win said ota does not matter.
I took the OTA on launch day because I thought it contained the heavily anticipated S-OFF update...I didn't know the "hazards" of accepting OTA's and it possibly keeping the phone from rooting. I was glad to hear from several sources that the "most promising" exploit isn't OTA-dependent because HTC doesn't even know about it so an OTA wouldn't "close the hole"!

Go into HTC software update and uncheck the updater. Pull down the notification bar and click cancel on the update. Imo 100% do not take the OTA when they are on to an exploit this big. You have waited so long a few more days and we might have root don't chance it
Can s-off come out and play? You run but you can't hide

...adjusting to life without the trackball
I took the OTA, stripped off as much Sprint bloatware as I could, and I'm getting great battery life out of the stock ROM.
I'm holding HTC to their word that they will provide us with a means to root.
From what I have read the exploit is not in the Hboot or the bootloader.
From my limited knowledge we will need an htc ota to unlock the bootloader. That said I'm sure that update will include all previous updates in the file so what are you hurting by downloading the current update?

The OTAs thus far are fine, however, it is recommended to avoid any future OTAs as they may patch the exploit that was discovered today by Team Win.

How was it dumb? It obviously didn't affect root and you've had the joy of using a fully functional phone.
So I have a Thunderbolt, got it the first day that it came out. Made the decision that I would stick with stock until I'd had enough of it.
Long story short, my boyfriend got the EVO 3D, and rooted it within the week. Naturally I got jealous.
So here's my dilemma, I found the [Updated: 3/26]Easyroot + S-Off [Version 1.6.3.11] root, but I forgot that I had updated my software.
I did a factory reset hoping that it would reverse the update, but apparently I lost all of my information for no reason, because [news flash] it didn't work!
I guess my question now is... What are my options?
Am I screwed and stuck with stock now?
Will there be a new root developed for {stupid-people-who-updated-their-software} like me?
Is there an updated root already out there that I can try?! <~ I've been looking with no sucess!
Please help me!!!!
{{{{&& for those of you who are experienced.. I have been searching the forums for 2 days and I found a post about EVO's, but not Thunderbolt. So I'm sorry if you have managed to see a post with this type of question before. I did try the [Updated: 3/26]Easyroot + S-Off [Version 1.6.3.11] root, but nothing happens. & I didn't know where else to look.}}}
I don't think there has been a new root method for the updated RUU.
So I do believe your out of luck for now.

My wife is planning to get a T-Bolt pretty soon and without knowing what 'version' of s/w it will have when it arrives, you're saying 'no worries'. If she wants it rooted (our Eris' have been rooted since the exploit for it was available -- jcase was involved too !), I can use the manual (command-line) method in his sticky thread ?

Current rooting methods (manual preferred) will work fine for any stock officially released firmware because it's all still unpatched Froyo so the exploit used still works.
The only time in the future that this will stop working is when the Gingerbread OTA rolls out.
Reason I ask is I am positive I've read from others who've gotten T-Bolts and mistakenly allowed a s/w update, presumably OTA, and now they can't root.
Is GB being pushed to a small # of phones, by chance ?

Nope. User error on their part. They probably tried one of the auto-root scripts and then blamed it failing on the OTA.

I completely agree. Many of the rooting scripts out there are either out of date or use obsolete exploits. The OTA back in April, I think it was, required new exploits be used. Jcase has been on that like white on rice and I'm going to say this community stands strongly behind jcase and the method he's outlined. It has the best success rate, without question. Plus, everyone always says its much easier than it looks. If setting up the SDK or ADB is confusing, we are always glad to help too.

There's no harm in updating, but there's no point if you plan on rooting it. Part of the rooting method will wipe everything and reset it to an earlier software version. You'll then have to update(Using ROMs from here, not the OTA) to a newer version to catch up to the latest release or whatever ROM you choose to run. You're better off rooting now, then worrying about updates.

Here is the link to the global update: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...ull-ruu-build-4-03-605-2-for-the-htc-rezound/ Lucky for you, since you haven't unlocked you bootloader or done anything otherwise, you can flash this in your bootloader and get the update with no problem.
Two notes on flashing that...first it's unofficial, so flashing it might risk your ability to get OTA's in the future. Second, it will wipe your data, apps, and internal storage. However, with those two caveats, it will work just fine.
I appreciate the input guys. However, both of you state I need to "flash" to do this - which looks to me (as stated above) it's an unofficial method of getting this update. I'm curious, is there a way I can do this a legit way? How come my phone did not take the update, while others did? How can I force my phone to update? I'd like to keep my phone as stock as possible and not do any modding to it.
If I really have no other options, then I guess flashing is my best bet. And considering the last phone I had that I took any time to mod was the first-gen iPhone, I have no clue what any of this lingo means - but I guess that's what Google is for. However if any of you have a quick link in mind you could post that might help me or at least point me in the right direction, it'd be appreciated. I looked at the link posted above to the actual ROM file and it has some simple install instructions, however I'm not sure if that's all I need to do considering I'm still fully stock. Thanks again guys for all your help.

Run the 4.03.605.2 RUU. Let it boot 1 time, then wipe and install shrike's CounterShrike CM9 ROM. It's seriously a great ROM and super smooth in comparison to stock. Basically, what this phone should have been from day 1.

A few people got 4.03.605.1 a week or two after the 3.14.605.12 OTA, but they never mass rolled it out. Awesome, just what I needed to know. I will just be patient then. Thanks!
Yep, basically the only reason why the global update ever made it to light is because the manufacturers like HTC like to "splash test" on a few customers, let them report back bugs and what not, at this point if there aren't any bugs or the bugs that are present are workable, they will release the update in mass to the rest of the public.
Basically, a splash tester knew what they were doing, whipped together that nice little "flashable" ruu package and released it for the rest of us to hack up for our own uses. Usually, we look forward to these little splash test releases because they do contain newer bug fixes, but they also contain new kernels, libs and other useful things we need to continue making roms like aosp or sense 4 work better
I'd say if you want it, go ahead and flash it. Its just not official as they say because it did not arrive onto your phone via ota update directly from htc and verizon. Although it is an official build built by htc.
Hi everyone, I haven't posted here in a long time, (mostly because I find most answers) but this hasn't been talked about much.
I would like some clarification as to what is going on with TWRP recovery for the HTC EVO 4G LTE.
Ok so basically Iv been here with ICS for a while now because I refuse to update due to this. I am on 2.13.651.1 I would like the update to 3.16.651.3. I came across a post that someone was talking about TWRP touchscreen not being responsive, so I have not updated due to fear this will happen to me. If you would like to look here is the post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2126626.
Now since this was a while ago, im not sure if the issue is fixed or if it is still going on. I am just looking to see if anyone has had experience with this, or if everything has worked fine. Also im not new to rooting or development stuff, im just cautious with my $500 phone, I personally dont want to brick it.
Here would be my method for updating.
1. S-ON with fastboot oem lock
2. Take OTA update to 3.16.651.3
3. S-OFF via HTC DEV
4. Root
5. Get everything back by titanium backup.
Yes I know I probably left some steps out but that was just a quick summary. Anyway If anyone has ran into this, or even if you have taken the update and have not had a problem please let me know, so I can go on and do this. I would really like JB on my LTEVO.
BTW I do know I could use a custom ROM but I like to stay stock for some weird reason.
Thank you in advance to any help or feedback.
