either flash a rom prerooted rom, or follow the instructions to root with adb in my eh03 odin thread
if you cant do either...well then perhaps rooting isnt for you

Yes, Odin cwm4 and download superclean eh03 and flash that via cwm. Wipe data cache and davlik before flashing.
better to be safe than odining - me

This is way over my head. I was hoping for something simple. Thanks for the help though.

give this a read... It works, just a lengthy process.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17222830&postcount=2
as nitsuj17 posted, flashing deodexed eh03 rom is by far the easiest method. If you got your phone on 2.3.5 this should be easy...or is verizon finally ota updating 2.3.5 to the fascinates?

It's really not that hard at all. Follow this guide. It couldn't be any more simple than this.
If you just want to be rooted and leave your phone on gingerbread, follow section 5. It's very easy. If you're looking for something else, read his description carefully at the top.
Rooting and flashing is incredibly easy on this phone. If you're coming from the OG Droid for example, you're going to be blown away at how easy it is. Anyway, good luck and don't give up. It's really not over your head!

Don't give up...
Roger,
I know it can sound daunting, but it really isn't. Everthing you need to get to rooted version of GB (SuperClean3) can be found in the first 4 posts of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350621
Follow the instructions step by step and you will be good to go. The advantages of both a rooted phone and a debloated/modded ROM are well worth the effort. I am a relative noob, and managed to get there in under 30 minutes.
Good Luck.
Dave

Droidstyle thanks this worked great.

I haven't done anything with the phone at all because I'm too scared I'm going to end up with a brick.
if someone could just lay out the process for me step by step. of going to official 2.2 to cyanogenmod I would appreciate it sooooooooooooooo much.
I'm sorry I've failed at the forums but I just feel so overwhelmed.

The last 2 links are the only ones you need to concentrate on. Since you have Froyo update 2.2.2 AlphaRevX is the only option you have to unlock your phone so that you can ultimately install CM 7.
First you need to follow the AlphaRevX thread to gain S-OFF (security off) on your Aria. Just a note, in these 2 threads, you need to remember that an Aria = HTC Liberty.
After you run AlphaRevX, then you will follow the steps that attn1 outlined in the 2nd post to install ClockworkMod recovery which will allow you to ultimately flash CM 7.
sigh. thanks for the help but I still feel like I don't really know what I'm doing.

Well at least you have:
1. Updated your Aria to the latest Froyo 2.2.2 (without bricking it)
2. Found this site and forum.and asked some questions
Depending on your technical level, I would read through those 2 threads. I know several of the posts had step by step instructions. They may be too technical, but it should at least help you narrow down what to google and search for to help you learn and gain some knowledge on how to procede.
I just followed this post:

Might want to replace the launcher with Launcher Pro. It is 2x smoother than the default ADWLauncher.
Other than that, go and have fun with your rooted phone! Just make sure to nandroid backup before you make any drastic changes.
Finally, light at the end of the tunnel. I was beginning to lose hope about my 2.2.2 Aria. Can't wait to get started.

Well if you want to go to gingerbread then 1st thing 1st is
lets do pudding
Open rsd lite make sure its 5.3.1 version.
Put phone in rsd and use pudding.

Once you flash pudding.
lets check to make sure you have updated CWM (clockworkmod)

FYI You have to use fastboot to install this if you need help ask.
I have typed a guide and there is one on here somewhere.
After you install CWM download Kennethpenns Gingerbread beta. ( REALLY STABLE) I use this daily as i use my phone for work.

This is just tells that it's impossible to do with SBF flash. Can this be done via CWM flash instead?

You have not done anything wrong thus far. Which is to say, you haven't burnt a fuse by going to 2.3.4. OTA. As of now, you're capable of reverting back to 1.8.3. without any issues.

I'm assuming you know how to flash? If so, here is the link to all available firmwares:

After reading your post again, I realize you probably don't know how to flash...
Go to our wiki (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Motorola_Atrix_4G) and get RSD Lite (search it if you don't see it)
That's the tool you'll use to flash the firmware you pick out from the first link I gave you.

Not at all, from what I understand... you've not updated with the OTA Update. In which chase you're safe from "the point of no return"
waiting for the brick in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..............
If you attempt to flash any froyo sbf that doesnt contain pudding pre-applied, and only after you've unlocked, you might as well throw your phone in the toilet.

If you read the post on Kenneth's thread then you would know that ANY Over The Air, OTA, update would result in a hard brick. If you flash Kenneths ROM, Which this guy did, then it is safe to use RSDLite.
I would recommend pointing him in the appropriate direction rather then saying "waiting for the brick" since you do display knowledge of knowing what to do.
From kenneths thread about Hard Bricks!
How can I avoid this Brick?
You can avoid bricking your device by not flashing any over-the-air updates to Android 2.3.4. Instead, try flashing the 2.3.4 zip over here. Or, flash the pure stock images from here.
So is it safe or not to downgrade ROM? Say, can I just download GingerBlur (http://briefmobile.com/gingerblur-rom-for-atrix-4g) and install it using CWM with no repricussions?
I never updated any OTA updates and right now on unlocked bootloaders and Kenn's Gingerbread
Ok, Since everyone rather comment on how not to do it but not point you in the right direction then I will give you the link to a place that is a safe alternative for you.
But first I want to ask you if you tried to flash any other ROM like "Ninja v0.4.5" by samcripp or "Alien" by kenneth? The Alien ROM has the battery fix with it so it is safe and battery life lasts awhile. When I say awhile I mean I did not charge my phone two days and dropped to 30% in a 48 hour period. There is a script by Juggernaut that you can flash to any ROM that fixes the battery spike issue.
But if you rather go backwards to FroYo then here is a link with directions to flash, a new method, Fruit cakes! it's a safe alternative and you flash it through CWM never using RSD ever again. Fruit cakes
If you have any questions I would either ask here or ask on the Fruitcake thread.
HAPPY FLASHING!!!!
A
Thanks. That worked. I'm now on Froyo but still having battery issues. Problem is that Fruitcakes does not contain radio image and I'm still on GB radio. How do I downgrade radio? I don't beleive there is CWM packages for that. If I find radio.img for Froyo can I downgrade it safely via RSD or fastboot without possibility of bricking my phone?
If you have any questions I would either ask here or ask on the Fruitcake thread.

Well I did some searching and I can only find two threads that are relatively close to a radio on FroYo.. Only difference between our stock ATT and these two are international/tweaked radios.

You can always hard brick your phone when you're in RSD; loss of connection between phone & PC, power outage, anything that disrupts the process = (more or less 100% of the cases) hard brick

And for that very reason I try to not SBF my phone unless there's no other way. CWM and fastboot work perfectly fine. Besides that, my main PC is a desktop.
Loss of power = brick. That's why I only use RSD off of laptop.

[Q] Re-root droid x2 after 2.3.4 OTA Update

To make a long story short... I let someone use my phone, they updated it to 2.3.4 . How do I obtain root privileges again? I don't need a step by step explanation. The quick version should get me on my way.
From what it seems I need to flash one of the Leaked SBF's? I just looked on the side of the box and I have S/W version 1.2.148.MB870. Do I need the SBF pertaining that that model?
Not to fear! You can root your OTA update and enjoy the benefits of 2.3.4! Google "Pete's one click root" and follow the instructions. It's VERY easy to do. Good luck.
Also, there are resources in the dev section.

It was more of a cautionary statement to be careful if doing a search and you end up in the x forum by mistake seeing as they also have a gb sbf it can be dangerous when people just quick glance the forum they are in
I know I've almost made that mistake. Started to download the sbf and was like why doesn't this look right? Lol

Jeez, I am confused.

I just got the Note today, and I have the GSIII. I am testing them both out. I was told rooting the Note and installing recovery was super easy but there are like 15 guides and I don't know how to root this thing.
I need a guide, and then maybe some suggestions to good ROM's once I actually figure out how to root.
Any help is appreciated.

Honestly I just suggest flashing an ICS custom ROM. Easier than kies, and better anyways.
If you want to try out the "stock ICS" feel, look no further than here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664980
that will still have smemo and all the stock widgets and launcher. It's just de-bloated, deodexed, and rooted. It's pretty much like stock on steroids.
If you don't care about the stock feel or the spen or touchwiz stuff, try anything else out there. Lots of good ROMs, all better than stock through kies.
I'm currently running rasroygbiv's Gubment Cheeze, a CM9 based ROM, and it's awesome. Haven't had an ounce of lag, and I've been testing it for quite a while now, before it was released here. Highly recommended that you at least try it if you like the whole CM9 thing.
And for your gs3, look for Nunhugger's Triune, it's a stockish debloated rooted ROM and he's doing some sweet things theming stock touchwiz.
