What about jellybean?
So is Honeycomb a PC / Tablet OS only? Seems like everyone is talking about the jump from GB to ICS with no mention of Honeycomb in between.
I remember 1.0 haha that was the biggest battery eater of them all!

Honeycomb is for tablets, now tablets will be using ics also

Well, being in the community, I suppose everybody here knows a decent amount on this subject now. Just out of curiosity, any estimates on how quick this can be ported to our beloved Droid Eris'?
i believe Gingerbread is 3.0... and how can something be ported that hasn't been released?
my estimate... 1 year
-------------------------------
also, for future reference, this should be in q&a section (it will save you from the burning flames)

u may be right ,, but i believe ive seen GB being referred to as 2.3 and 3.0 lol
It's pretty much 99% confirmed that gingerbread is 2.3.

Yes it will be 2.3. And do you really want gingerbread on Eris?

I've been seeing it referred to as both 2.3 and 3.0 on other tech sites, for the most part I am seeing Gingerbread referred to as 2.3 and Honeycomb as 3.0. Either way it doesn't matter. Who cares what number it's assigned, it doesn't change the fact that Tenzo is right about not being able to port something that hasn't been released.
Now if we can just get ahold of a leak for the N1.... Then maybe you guys can start porting it! Anyone know someone that works for Google? LOL
ill wait for android ice cream
ahh, then my apologies on code #'s. been more than a month since i've even cared to read about Gingerbread... and now i've seen they've completely gone OB and changed all that up.
in any case, is there really 2 different threads about this now? did google drop something in the oven and everyone is smelling something that i'm missing?
cornbread, gingerbread, gingersnaps...
my theory... if they release, it will come
Eh, call me when they release the 5.0, Rum Cake.

Yeah, when is it gonna be ported???
Hello,
What I know about rooting you could fit in a thimble so please excuse my ignorance.
Is there a reason the roots aren't 2.3.4? Is it a lot of work getting a newer android version working on the phone after someone figures out how to unlock it?
Is 2.3.4 the latest version or 2.3.5?
Not sure but I'm pretty sure there is no 2.3.4 on our phones at least sense wise until a leak or HTC releases it. As for aosp as soon as its done being built well have it

Thanks for replying. I'd just like to clarify your response as I'm not sure what it means.
So sense is dependent on the version of Android so that would prevent us from getting 2.3.4 or newer until a new eversion of sense is available?
What is aosp?
AOSP = android open source project. Think cm7.

Sense is from HTC, the reason we didn't get 2.3.4/2.3.5 is because it takes a while to work out the bugs in the build so they decided to leave it with 2.3.3 which probably that would be it for gingerbread, until we get ice cream sandwhich (next big update by google)
AOSP is android to the core without any skins, like you see the dialer is different , contacts, browser, camera app, etc

HTC is dependent on what version of Android our phone has. It doesn't need a new version of sense but they have to turn stock Android (2.3.4 in this case) into sense...or at least apply the updates from 2.3.4 into HTC's version of Android (sense). They have to theme it and make sure all things work in sense as they did in previous versions (ex: android 2.2).
Aosp is short for android open source project. I forget the details and I don't wanna provide false info so just Google it

Once installed, with root, it does.
We definitely should be getting the update to 2.3.4 soon enough since It's working fine on the gsm version. Just makes sense.
I'm aware a lot of people are using the 2.3.4 version of android now, but does 2.3.3 development cease to exist now? I mean, I'm aware its not the latest version to date and all that, but hey.. we do have the kernel source for it. I'm not trying to say HEY DEVS. DO THIA FOR ME NOW!!! But I've just been wondering this for a while, have we reached the limits of 2.3.3 yet?

You miss the ''not'' before the caps. Now it really does look like you're demanding it.
I think it'll be released soon, so that's why they stopped.

I may be completely dense, but I wonder the same exact thing. Wouldn't it be a lot easier to develop an AOSP ROM from the 2.3.3 kernel source we already have?
(Tell me if I'm absolutely clueless, please, so at least I'll know.)

AOSP is whatever version that Google releases, as they update the Android versions,.... So, yes, we may be on 2.3.5 now, but there CERTAINLY was a 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROM out there prior to this release.
Sent from my Evo³d
actually aosp is now 2.3.6
think of it like this if we stayed with 2.3.3 and the kernel source for 2.3.4 was released we would have to redo everything anyways...think of this as us getting a head start
If you want to live in the past, try ViperRom. It's a great ROM but still on the old base.
Well this is obsolete now

Ice cream comes out, when can I run CM8 on my Samsung Galaxy S?
Cyanogen 8 is honeycomb. No 8 because Google didn't release the source. Cyanogen 9 is ICS. As Google say, it will work for those devices that able to run gingerbread.

I would expect the first of nightlies to come out late November, and a stable sometime late December or early January.

See here: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cm9-progress-update.
So, now that we have finally received the final cm7 7.2 version, will all future updates stop? Are we going to see a 7.3 in the future? Thanks!
Edit: I just saw that another nightly was released. Changelog is broken...

Devs will still probably find room for improvement on CM7 until ICS officially lands. BTW thank you to all the guys that worked on CM7!
It's mind blowing how much better the Atrix is now on CM7 compared to when our phones originally launched with crippled Froyo. Seriously, thanks guys!...
