[Q] SGS2 just died, what to do ? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
I'm pretty sure my SGS2 just died. I didn't drop it or anything, just left in plug on my computer for a while. Since 2 weeks, it started to act weird when it was plugged to this laptop and the laptop was plugged too ( the touchscreen was going crazy when I tried to use it ). After 2 hours not looking at it, I tried to turn the screen on and it just wouldn't, but the two buttons were lighting up still. So I took of the battery to reboot it. Then I looked closer to the screen and I saw it was all cracked, but from the inside. Exactly like if I dropped it ( which I didn't recently ), but literally inside of the screen. Here is a picture I tried to take ( sorry for the quality ) :

It doesn't feel like cracked at all when I scratch it with my nails, and the screen remains black no matter what I do
So I don't really know what to do (and what happened...). My phone was running a custom ROM ( CheckRom HD ), and I still have access to the shell as a root. Should I do something before sending it to warranty ?
Second pretty big problem is that I'm an Android developer, in the middle of a pretty busy developing week so I would need to change it as fast as possible. I'm living in France, and I bought it online on some french website, would you guys know if there's some kind of samsung shops where I can change it ?
Thanks for your advices, I'm gonna go cry now

I just wonder if it overheated, using it during charge. ? ? Hope someone can help you.

Yes, it always had overheated, since day 1 (so a bit before I started flashing roms on it). Not especially when charging, but when playing sometime the device was literally burning ( I read a lot about that, some people say really warm only, but this one was literally burning my ear when at maximum temperature ). Didn't play game or anything these past 2 days tho, so I don't think it overheated because of that recently
For information, I've been flashing ROMs for a bit more than 2 years now, never had any problem, I'm 99% sure this is only hardware related for those who are scared.

I don't know what games you're playing, but if you're burning your ear, I think you're playing them wrong .

Haha, from what I remember it was occurring playing dungeon defenders and getting a call in the middle

the problem is that you have a custom rom in it, and that for sure void your guarantee, even the fault is hardware related to the screen, and not to the device itself. Did you try to call and see how it react the phone? It ring?
Maybe there is a solution, even without screen, to put it in download mode, flash a stock rom with odin, and send it back to warranty.
I read about a user wich have a SGS2 with a creen wich cripple it by himself, without even touched...so your best chance is to your warranty. (I think you need a special warranty to can send it to any samsung store, not just to one or carrier from you bought the phone).
Finger crossed!

Hey, thanks for your answer. I contacted Samsung yesterday, there's apparently no Samsung store anywhere around here ( I guess France's capital is considered as a small village in the middle of nowhere ), they just told me to write a letter with pictures to their repair address ( not even the phone ) and they had no idea what was gonna happen next. I guess I'm gonna wait for their answer and eventually try to reset the flash count and restore stock rom from Odin :/

but the site, from where you bought the phone, didn't give you some warranty papers? I bought a neverlocked SGS2 from an online store here in Bucharest, and they give me a warranty paper...and for sure if Paris is in the middle of nowhere, then Bucharest is the definition of nowhere..just kidding.
It's impossible that a site wich sell new SGS2, to not give you the warranty.
And the process to send pictures of phone is like, my car engine doesn't start, but the lights are on, and i will send pictures to the service...it not like even samsung care-service.

You might be luckly and get it under warranty cos its obviously burnt-out from the inside so they probably wont have access to anything (bin counter)cos its all fried inside. Then again normally a warranty covers only certain things and when a power cut killed my mates phone that was plugged in during a storm here in Spain they told him it wasnt a warranty thing and he had to talk to the power company or use his house insurance as it wasnt a direct fault from the phone itself cos it was plugged in and not under use.All he said was that it died over night while charging, nothing about the storm.

dam sorry to here this

The website actually do have a store that I went to, but the guy from the store from the store told me he won't do it for free since the screen is cracked [even if it was from the inside...], so he just took me for responsible and there were no way to negociate :/
I'm gonna see in the next few days what my options are and let you guys know

Dont worry about software, this phone is fried already and noone is able to get anything from its memory. Give it for repair and pray
BTW why cant you try to open it by yourself?(just to check what happened ) Samsung doesnt use any seals on their phones...

Nop the phone is not fried, just the screen ( and the vibrate seems a bit ****ed up too but not completely ), all datas are still there and still accessible via adb. It's true that I'd like to open it myself and see what happened inside but I won't unless samsung send me a new device, I'm waaaaaaay too clumsy to open it without ****ing everything up around ( trust me, I had pretty bad past experiences with opening creative and HTC devices ).
Thanks for the link boias21

For those who want to know the end of the story, here is what happened :
I called samsung, they asked me to send pictures of the device with an explanation of what happened (instead of giving me the address to get it fixed...). After a few days, no answer from them, so I called. They told me they would call me back the day after. 5 days after, still didn't call me, so I called them back. This time, they told me they sent me the address to get the phone fixed by mail, and that I should get it the next day. 3 days after, still nothing. Call them back, they sent it to the wrong address (.........), and they didn't wanna give me the address by phone. After insisting and spending 20 minutes on the phone with them, they let me talk to a supervisor who gave me the address, warning me many times that if they consider the device broken by my fault I'll have to pay, and if I don't want to, I'll have to pay to get my device back (............). I got really pissed, check the address on the internet and saw review from people who sent their devices to this address. First of all, it is not samsung who's fixing it, just some private company. Second of all, they make you pay, most of the time, weather it's your fault or not ( and devices get there more broken than when you send it pretty often ). Plus, you have to wait around 1 month to get your phone back. If they consider that it's your fault, they send you a bill that you have to pay and send back before they start fixing it (2 more weeks ?).
Got really mad, found the closest address from where I live to get it fixed, went there, and paid 180 euros (I know I could have done that for half the price buying the screen on internet and doing it myself but I suck at doing that kind of thing).
Samsung really suck on this, I think it's the one thing I really love about apple, your device is broken, you just go to the apple store, and you have physical contact with people.

Yeah I agree. I have an iPhone 4 as well and apple warranty is the best around. I have returned about 7 phones (not all mine) for various reasons and never even had to take an invoice or anything else with me. They just check for water damage and replace on the spot. 5 minutes later new (refurbished) phone. Try asking for warranty from Samsung without an officially authorised reseller invoice. Assholes.

Can't Flash to 2.1

At one point in time, about a month ago, I had my phone running exactly how I wanted it to. Successfully flashed to 2.1, had the Elemental theme going, installed xRecovery, even changed the boot screen around. Problems started coming when I dropped my phone. Camera stopped working, fine I can deal with that. But then I got tired of the Elemental theme, so I attempted to switch to the themes. I think I went back and forth between two themes and eventually, one worked. Though I was unhappy that the theme was really buggy. I think I tried another theme after that and eventually all I got on my phone screen after a reboot was a white screen with the android status bar. Couldn't touch it, couldn't move it, all functionality stripped, it was just there.
So I'm pretty much forced to install 2.1 on it again. I went through flashing procedures like normal, though, when I unplug the USB cord and turn on my phone, I am greeted with the "Sony Ericsson" screen and this lovely screen seconds after.

after a couple of seconds, the screen goes away and it goes back to the SE screen and it sits there... FOREVER. So what am I forced to do at this point? I flash back to 1.6 from gen0n's video that I had downloaded before and pretty much, its the only ROM that works on my phone now.
I attempted to look for other ROMs but almost every single one requires you to have xRecovery and I can't really do that on 1.6 :/
Anyone have any idea what this mystery screen means? I suppose it has something to do with my broken camera... does it mean I can't ever have 2.1 on my phone again?
Hey man you have to take your phone back to your carrier (like At&t) and hopefully you bought insurance so they can send you another phone then you can flash any rom you want or send it to Sony Ericsson especially since you dropped it and you will most likely have to pay for the repair. But it'll be worth it. Nothing's worse than an x10 stuck on 1.6 firmware. Makes me sick just thinking about it. Anyways just call your cell phone provider and ask about it. Maybe u can try using PC companion to flash official firmware but idk.

Hey thanks for the reply,
Unfortunately, I didn't buy insurance :/ but I suppose i'll contact SE and see how much the repair would be and how long it would take.
Hey, the only thing worse than being stuck on 1.6 is being stuck on 1.6 without a camera Im not undermining your statement though, 1.6 is pretty ****ty, but stable enough for me to text and call.
Just for the General info of everyone,
I just got off the phone with SE, and apparently they have a flat rate of $185 for physical damage to the phone. Its kind of funny because the address the guy gave wasn't even to SE, it was to some "PTS Electronics" place.
Yeah, I'll probably end up sending it in but if they want to charge me that much because there is physical damage then I don't think I'll end up paying it. First off because I dont have the money and second, because I only paid $50 for the phone so I think it dumb paying 3 times the phone to get it fixed.
Alright, so I managed to fix the phone myself.
Got the right tools and took the phone apart, it appears that the camera wasn't broken at all, just the connector was disconnected ever so slightly because of the drop. A simple re-seating of the camera fixed it right up.
Talk about saving yourself money! If I would not have bothered to check if the reason for the camera not working was because it was really broken or not, I would of sent my phone in and payed $185 (plus shipping) for someone to do what I did in 5 mins.
So with that, I highly suggest if you think your phone is physically broken or has hardware problem, open it up and take a look for yourself and make sure things are really out of your hands.
Wow lol. That's amazing. I hope u can flash Roms now. Good luck

Just for your own information, I have seen that screen on every x10 I have flashed 2.1 on. Its generally nothing to do with the camera at all. Its a picture word play. Its flashing your phone... get it?

[Q] Question about USB plug.

Device: European i9100 SGS2 Black.
Symptoms:
*Yellow triangle + battery when booting up with a lot of battery(This means 40% or more, boots normal when low battery)
*USB is plugged in even when it is not. Happing mostly when having 40% battery or more at boottime.
*Phone says it is charging constantly, either by USB or AC. Problem comes at boottime when 40% or more, if less, next time I plug the charger in.
Workaround: Boot CWM, then tap reboot system. Problems are still there.
Screenshot from my current ICS ROM in post below.
Do not take me wrong, I have tried being at stock after problem occured, but the problem is still there at any rom that I have tested, even stock 2.3.3.

Return to/flash stock firmware (if you're not running full stock at the moment, if you're running a CFRoot kernel over stock, reflash stock). Or if you are running stock & have already tried a factory reset (also try this if you haven't already), return phone to your carrier/Samsung for warranty service/replacement.

Just updated the post.
Samsung will most likely tell me it is not warranty, so I wont.
The shop gave me a new battery, which did not help.
PS: Better setup in post over now, so please read it again before answering to this. Thanks.
You could try cleaning the USB socket with a new/unused toothbrush, you could try cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip/cotton bud.
If these don't work I don't honestly know what fix you expect anyone on here to offer you. Your phone is not working properly/ is stuffed. Regardless of how you get it done/who you have do it, you'll need it repaired.
I've seen it suggested on here to replace the USB circuitry board of the phone yourself (apparently you can get these on eBay), but unless you have experience fixing/soldering small electronics you probably don't want to attempt that.
If 'the shop' is giving you grief, go over their head and contact Samsung in your country directly.

The only way I can go over their head is by sending the phone to the service center they use in Norway. The company I work for use the same center, but then again, I do not want to be without my high end phone for a long time to get it back unfixed, as many posts I have read stated about Samsung service.
I know it can be done yourself, but never read anything about the need to solder it, only that it was fast to do.
Yes, I might try the isopropanol thing you supposed. It might work.
Do you know the reason for such things to happen?
I guess only you can make the decision about sending it in for service.
In that case, maybe fixing it yourself might be the answer given you've said you think no soldering is required.
Cleaning the usb socket might help if it's dirty or not making contact properly, but to be honest, that warning you're getting at boot wouldn't be happening unless there was something very wrong with the phone itself by my estimation.
No. I don't know much about smartphone electronics. I know my way around roms/software, but the innards of a phone, no

End of the day just send it off to Sammy if your that stuck.

AFAIK, ebay has little security for the deliver + long delivery time to Europe?
Thats what I think at least.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Try and get one locally there if you're so worried about buying one on eBay for whatever reason. Security for delivery ? Dude, it's a 3 dollar jig. So it doesn't get delivered. Worst case you lose 3 bucks (big deal), and if you pay with PayPal you'll get your 3 bucks back. It took me about 7 working days to get mine delivered & I'd be surprised if it took much more than that to get to you.
Also, there's a thread in the General section here where people are offering to let other people use their jigs. Have a look in that section to see if there might be someone close to you who can lend you theirs/maybe you can meet up with them & use their jig.
Alternatively you can make your own with 3 100K ohm resistors & a USB plug (do a Google search, there are a bunch of tutorials to show you how to do this).

It's a problem with your usb charging port. The only way to truly fix it is to have the charging port plus circuit board replaced. Happened to me a week back and I tried virtually everything- stock roms, removed root, replaced batteries etc. None of that worked. Some posts said it was a port problem. Went to a tech guy I knew and he confirmed the issue when he disconnected the port. It was relatively cheap for me to fix but some people have climed that samsung charges a large amount to fix it. You're better off trying to get it fixed on your own. If you're on warranty, try and claim it

USB jig Samsung galaxy s2 or many of the other search criteria will get you to part mine cost £1 Inc shipping from China to which took at most 1 week.
I would not advise doing any repairs as you have warranty no point messing around.
Sent from the valley of the shadows....
I got a problem with sending it in. 1-4 weeks is too long for me without this great phone.
I got warranty, but Samsung wont pay for the repair, AFAIK it is mostly caused by water and dust.
And when I asked for part no or something like it, I meant the internal usb port, not the jig.

Hard-Bricked Prime RMA expierence.

Hey guys just wanted to share with you my RMA expierence with my transformer prime that I bricked (I take full responsibility for bricking it) by flashing a stock rom to it through clockwork recovery. So with no hope of an unbricking I decided to send it in just for the heck of it.I sent it in with my charger and my SD card which was an accident. I wasnt expecting anything great.
So I sent it in and was anticipating an email about how much it would be to repair the thing. After about a week I got an email however it was an email with the shipping info and it said it was shipped out. The following weekend after that I received my prime with minor scratches and there is a chip in the backing where it wraps around the screen. It really isnt bad though. I pressed the power button thinking maybe they sent me back my original prime without them attempting to fix it. Sure enough it turned on and booted into ICS. At this point I was almost positive that they didnt even mess with my prime to see what was wrong with it. However on the letter they sent back with the prime it says under the user problem column "Cust states after firmware update the tablet is not loading pass the asus splash screen. OS PW: N/A Recovery OS:Y" I was incredibly happy and used the prime until it was dead.
This is where the bad starts to happen I went into the box to snag my charger and realized it came back with no charger. So I called Asus back up and asked them if they could send me out a charger. The assosciate said that a supervisor would get back to me withing a few days. A week passed by and nothing happened no email or call. So I called back and a different lady pulled up the repair ID and said a request was just sent to the rapair department today. This request only requests for an answer to see if they sent me back a charger. If the repair department says they sent me one I will have to buy a charger sadly. Im still waiting to hear back to them and its been around 3 days. Hopefully they will get back to me.
Other then the charger issue I was really satisfied in the repair status though. I cant wait to get my prime up and running again!

What?? So you're saying YOU bricked your Prime, by flashing something you shouldn't have.
You were obviously rooted/unlocked, and installed a custom recovery...which means you knew **** could happen. So you bricked it, ASUS fixed it for you under warranty, NO CHARGE, and your jocking them because they forgot to send you your charger back?! Like they owe it to you? Go order one for the $30 or however much it costs....SINCE YOU JUST SAVED $400-$500
I mean I'm glad you got your baby back...that's some crazy good luck.
But there are many Prime owners who have problems with their Primes, that they themselves did not cause, and ASUS will NOT fix it for them.
Bottom line...be grateful you got what you got, and forget about the charger, buy another.

The OP said he was grateful...
Why bash him?
Show some luv. The guys lost his charger...
Also a system restore from asus out of warrenty doesn't set you back that much..
Even if you bricked it, breaking the glass, is costly..
But I would buy a charger even is its going to be a spare. I leave myne at work and have a spare at home. And I would still buy one more if I can.. not that my prime has bad battery life, I just like the idea that I dont have to worry about charging the thing..

I realized that I did all that stuff to it and admitted to it in my original post. I'm thankful that I got my prime back just thought it would be helpful to some people on here to know about my expierence. Thank you other for being nice and understanding in my position as I'm not ungrateful at all.
The charger was his property and they should have sent it back to him. To me this is totally independent of whether they chose to fix his prime under warranty. However, this is why they usually tell you not to send in anything more than the device itself because they don't want to be responsible for the extras and how would they know if someone is being dishonest to try and get a free charger or accessory from them. Should be safe to assume a repair center would have the appropriate chargers, cables etc. I have an extra charger myself, at the time asus store was out and I found one on ebay for about $22 I think - shouldn't keep food off your table. Hope you get it back, cross your fingers but don't hold your breath!

I'm pretty sure it says in the RMA documentation not to send a charger or the original packaging with it.
I had my hard bricked prime fixed for free too,Asus changed the motherboard
I did the same op did and I'm thankful too,my prime returned with the bootloader locked and the serial number is unknow
Hold on you guys are saying you unlocked your boot loader, bricked it, RMA and it was fixed for free?

So their unlocker tool not only isn't working for a lot of people, it's not quite working for ASUS either? I guess I shouldn't be surprised with how fragmented and unorganized this company seems.

I'm not sure who payed for the service,PC Depot or Asus??I can't speak japanese very well but the guy from Pc Depot told me that Asus had changed my motherboard for a new one;just it,I pick up my prime and went to my home very happy and the guy said "thank you very much" in japanese
I think was " lucky" ...
The fact that they *forgot to return him his charger* does make them extremely sloppy.
The fact that they can not seem to contact their own labs does speak volumes of the quality of service some of these labs provide.
So, yeah, lay off the guy, he wasn't complaining, he was just reporting his experience.
I just picked up an extra charger from Office Depot you can use the site to see if theres one near you in stock might be better than having to go thru Asus was easier for me anyway and yes that one is compatible with tf101, 201 and 300 you can look on the Asus site yourself
Hey guys just wanted to report back that I did indeed get a charger from them back it took around 2 weeks but I have a charger and working prime. Couldnt be happier!
I hard bricked mine
i hard bricked my rooted unlocked prime and they fixed it for free. but now when i try to unlock it I get a error message.
what was the reasoning for the RMA when you sent it in?
Well I just got back my ATP and it is locked and working again! Quick turnaround too...got it back in 10 days! So glad it worked.

Phone malfunctioned??

Hi all,
This morning I was browsing the web when suddenly the screen froze and the phone didn't respond anymore.
I was forced to remove the battery and replace it again in order to restart my phone.
I restarted the phone, it all went good till the bootscreen started the loop.
I restarted my phone, again.
The booting up goes good, first I see the Galaxy S2 screen, then I see the kernel bootlogo screen, but now it freezes whilst showing the kernel boot logo? (Logo: ''Black eye with the Ying-Yang in the middle and some purple smoke surrounding that eye'')
The phone went off, I saw some minor white lines appearing screen and it just died on me, it didn't respond anymore, it refuses to go on even whilst battery is at 82 %, I tried swapping batteries because I thought that my battery had malfuntioned but that wasn't the case and it didn't work.
I tried recharging my phone but no luck.
It just won't start.
However, I do feel my processor in the back (top-left corner) is getting pretty warm.
What could this be?
I'm running the Resurrection Remix ICS Jelly Bean Rom.
Thanks in advance...

How can I: Re-flash a kernel or a rom or try a different kernel or rom if my phone won't start?
Impossible to enter download-mode if the phone is unable to start wouldn't you agree?

Yes I read what you said but you didnt make it clear that it wouldnt "power" on. What it sounded like from what you wrote is that it wouldn't boot system.
If you want specific/precise replies instead of wasting your own time or that of peoples trying to help you and then been an arse when they dont fully understand because of your lack of clarity then I would suggest been more clear in first place.
In that case...
Have you tried a USB jig?
If you have then its pretty much dead and you have no choice but maybe try and get a JTAG repair or mobo replacement of if its your display getting that replaced. Or if you have warranty ring samsung.

Exactly my point.
These n00bs feel they have some sort of entitlement or this is their official devices support forum and we are all paid to help them.
If these people took time to research their devices/flashing etc they wouldnt have 99% of issues in first place. Then they come on here bypass using search, duplicate posts and when somebody attempts to help them they act like this guy and assume we all have magic mind powers instead of relying on posters been clear when they want help/describe issues.

I appreciate the help, I really do, I was just surprised by your answer Atheist because I clearly said my phone won't start
And that has nothing to do with manners and such MC, you cannot assume behavior through writing without actually hearing me, it's the tone that makes the song my friend, you clearly assume much.
The Atheist, don't take it personal, if you think I might sounded rude towards you and find my clarification not accurate then my excuses, I appreciate your response and help and I want to thank you for it.
Yes, I have tried the Jig, no luck unfortunately. I'm forced to buy myself a new phone and I was thinking the Galaxy Note II as that phone is regarded the best out there, at least that's what I've read of course.
Do you have a clue what the problem might be? I was thinking the ROM caused the issue.
Thank you.

Yes but you fail to understand that "phone wont start" could mean one of 2 things (Because most people are never clear)...
1. Cant get Android to boot.
2. Phone wont power on.
You may have meant number 2 but there are plenty others who use same words who simply mean they cant get Android to boot, ie they just get black screen or logo or a boot loop.
It sounds like you have either purchased a faulty device and hardware has failed or you have flashed incorrect rom/kernel/had bad flash and corrupted bootloader.
If you're phone isnt powering on, you have tried different battery, tried jig, left battery out couple of hours and tried again (try that if you havent) then only option is to JTAG (If you have corrupted bootloader etc) or mobo replacement.

Thank you for responding, and sorry for the late reply.
I have purchased my phone at T-Mobile and have it for like 1,5 year now. I have always used the Resurrection Remix Rom which I never experienced any difficulties. 2/3 months ago I updated it to the Jelly Bean rom without any problems at all, just after last week when I was checking my phone it froze on me and after 2 reboots it's just died :/ It won't turn on anymore.
I tried the USB jig, I also left the battery out for a couple of hours, I also tried using a different battery, I thought perhaps my battery was dead but unfortunately none of these ideas worked for me.
My phone is definitely dead, no doubt about it.
I might go for the JTAG but I have no time for all that, it's best that I purchase a new device and I was thinking about the Galaxy Note 2.
If recommend a phone other than the Note 2, please tell, I can then compare the devices and make my decision.
Buy an S II.

[Q] Sudden death!!

Something very strange, I checked the time on the phone while I was seating on my car, then I came home, and when I sat on my desk the phone was completely off. At first I though it might be an empty battery, so I plugged on the wall charger, but NOTHING happened. I tried the charger on another phone and worked, so the problem was the phone.
Took out the battery, put it back again and tried to enter recovery or download mode, none of them worked. (Even the 4 touch keys don´t light up, exactly like when you try to turn it on without a battery).
I left it charging all the night, and in the next morning, it was all the same.
About the phone
Because of the forum, its obvious that is a sgh-i777 AT&T SGSII. I changed many times of ROM, but I was running a custom one called "Alliance", wich is Touchwiz based and so stable, that I decided to keep it (flashed it maybe 3 months ago).
Regarding the installed apps, I had "RAM Manager", on the "more multitasking" preset, also had "STweaks" on the default profile, a task killer called "Speed Booster", "Next Launcher" and a bunch of games.
About the battery
I went to a store and asked to try a new one, but It didn't worked at all. The guy at the store told me that maybe it was a "Motherboard" (or something like that) issue, so I left the phone there to see if the can fix it, but they didn't have any luck. (I have to admit that it wasn't an official Samsung service center, but a friend's shop, so its probable that they dont know much about this kind of stuff). Besides, if you look closely at the phone, you cant see that the screws were untouched, so it seems that they didnt even try to repair it.
Another important thing is the battery "lifestyle" that I always used with the phone: Usage, from normal to exhaustive during the day and let it charging all night, everyday. I notice some alarming overheating when playin hard games (so hot that I quit playing and put the phone on the floor to make it cooler), this maybe has fried something inside.
I insist in the fact that I dont think that the battery is the problem because It didn't worked with a new one.
Well, the last "strage" thing that may have something to do, is that I plugged the USB cable to a "broken" car charger, causing the car fuse to burn, but I dont know if that could affect the phone somehow. (Notice that this episode ocurred 1 week earlier than the sudden death, so I dont think is a problem...)
So, this is it. Hope you can help me, because I miss my phone quite much (1 week no use...) and I would really love to have it back.
Kind regards,
Francis
P.S.: I took a lot of time writting this, try to be polite and helpful with the answers.
How are you trying to get into download mode?

In fact, it didnt worked, because the phone does not react when plugged, so it is not detected by the pc nor ADb. Nice try anyways
If your phone does not respond to battery, computer, or wall charger then it is what is known as a hard brick.
Your device may have been damaged by the car charger as well.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
@FranAmestoy,
If you are getting absolutely no response from the phone, and nothing you can do has any effect, then try one last thing (if you haven't already). Pull the battery and leave it out. While holding down both volume buttons, plug in the usb cable. The computer will supply the power. This will put a phone into download mode, but if there is no response to this, then at least you know for sure it is not a battery problem.
There is a difference between "hardware failure" and "hard bricked".
Technically speaking, hard bricked means a firmware problem, usually with the primitive bootloader or the primary bootloader. Such a problem can be fixed using equipment and a technique called jtag, by which the damaged bootloaders are reinstalled. This supposes that the hardware is still functioning correctly.
On the other hand, if the phone has damage to the eMMC memory, or some other hardware failure, then the only remedy is to troubleshoot and repair the hardware. This is perhaps what the technician was suggesting when he said it could be a mother board problem.
Judging from your description of the occurence, it doesn't sound like you did anything that would result in a hard brick. But then I don't know if you actually mentioned everything relevant. In order to find out, you would need to get the phone to a competent technician. The guy who owns Mobile Tech videos is highly respected here. If you wish to pursue getting it repaired, I would suggest that you call him and go over the problem with him, find out his prices, see if he thinks it is worth it, etc.
I have used MTV before and I can say their service was wonderful.

Now this is what I call "help"
I have to say many thanks to creepyncrawly and Red_81 for giving me the kind of answer that I was looking for.
In a few minutes I will try that USB power method, and see what I get.
Regarding your suggestion, I do very appreciatte your kindness and recomendation of where to take the phone to, but my problem is that I bought the phone in the USA, and I live in Argentina, so its way out of my reach to get what you recommend. Anyway, a few minutes from home there is an official Samsung store, that apparently, offers technical assistance, so I will try luck by going there.
For now, I still say you many thanks and I will keep you informed about what I get.
Kind regards,
Francis

If the car charger burned down the phone, how can be possible that it continued working during a week before the dropout? I am not saying that's not the problem, but I dont know if there are any relations with so much time in between...

Hard brick repair with jtag would be around US$50.00 plus shipping. Hardware repair would be at least that much in the US unless you can do it yourself. It may be more economical to replace the phone.
When you go to the Samsung store, ask them if it is still under warranty. The phone can be sent to Samsung for repair if they can not do it at the store. I have no idea what that would cost if it is not under warranty. Here in the US we would ship it off to a Samsung repair shop somewhere after talking to them over the phone. But I've never had to do that so I have no idea.

Thanks for the ideas, but will be impossible, because I bought the phone through eBay and I dont have the invoice, also the phone is rooted and with a custom ROM (triangle alert appears), so the warranty is "super-voided", no chances at all to get it back to stock (remember he's dead...)
I will cross my fingers to see if the can tell me if the can fix it, and how much would it cost.
My major concern is that the failure became impossible to fix. In that case, what will I do? I just can't offer a dead phone on internet for $2... Obviously I need to make some money from him in order to get a new one... However I still have some faith in the official store
You would likely get more than a few dollars selling it on ebay for parts. The digitizer and other parts are definitely worth something. But of course it's not going to be $200.00. Anyway, good luck. I hope you find it is fixable.
