I dunno if this has already been posted, but I thought this was some good info to have.
You can pop in your zip code and check the recent and planned future Tower upgrades in your area. Near my work, they made some recent upgrades and I definitely noticed. I was getting anywhere from 20-60kbps in recent months. Just a week ago I started averaging 400-600kbps.
I know it's not amazing, but a welcome change. Plus it looks like there are 4 more updates scheduled near me in the next 6 months. At least you can get a glimpse of what's to come. Just some good info to have.
http://network.sprint.com/
This is really neat. I see a lot of planned tower upgrades in my area!
Thats cool. Thanks OP
Thanks for showing me that there will be ZERO upgrades in the next 6 months on my area. That's all I needed to know. Good bye, Sprint and hello AT&T.

They are showing zero here?! Verizon and AT&T have towers cluttering every hill around here and Sprint has 1?? I call shenanigans!
FOr Jacksonville Florida , seeing plenty of past upgrades as well as soon to happen upgrades . This is a good thing but heres the down part . The areas I seem to travel to most out of state , still primarily Verizon territory with far and few sprint towers or future towers expected . I got Sprint then the traveling took place , If I knew now what I know I would have went with Verizon .
lol according to their site nearly every tower around me has had capacity and data speed upgrades but the data gets slower everyday.

Some of us have been waiting a long time. We don't have 4g at all, and the 3G is too slow to use. So if he has seen no upgrade in the last 6 months and none in the future 6 you can get an idea of how unimportant the area is to sprint. Also I am betting if you didn't live in the area you were in and weren't seeing improvement you would be thinking the same thing.
It is frustrating....I live in the fifth largest suburb in the us, and fifth fastest growing. If that doesn't make it one of the top priority, I don't know what else would

Yeah that is basically what I am seeing too. I will believe this network vision when I see it for myself. I have had 9 upgrades in a 10 square mile and there is nothing but slower and call + data dropping goodness.

Actually I bought the Evo just when it came out waited the next year without 4g we have like three active towers I am the state my phones doesn't hold a steady connection for more than thirty minutes and the sad particular get two 4g bars and speeds don't go past 1mbps isn't that crazy my 3g .29 I know what he's going through at my job I can't even text freaking roaming but I tried that Verizon prl 3g .68 and up at my job full bars I was saying six months isn't bad cause they are supposed to be upgrading their network so six months isn't bad to wait for faster unlimited data then going to switch the limited, expensive, or capped data

Oh, your area doesn't have 4g? I swore Detroit did. Now that you have clarified I do see the point you make, thanks.
I'm kind of on the fence, I can't decide what I want more. I was with Tmobile and they had decent speed 4g, but throttle you after x GB of data (bastards, unlimited data my ass). Right now I am so unhappy with my data speed and no 4g, I think I would trade top speed over unlimited. Sprint won't dare remove that unlimited data until their 3G is top tier everywhere, and their 4g reaches at least the #of customers that other carriers can, or more. If they did, they would not be able to accurately say anything good about their network, because they have the slowest speed on average than any competitor, and if they didn't have unlimited data packages they would not be better than their competitors in that respect either. Effectively making them THE WORST carrier all around.
Brilliant. This sucks.

Well after reading this....http://phandroid.com/2011/07/19/dan-hesse-expect-big-announcements-from-sprint-about-4g-this-fall/
I'm pretty sure that the area that I am in will not be getting 4G service any time soon. TMobile is the only one who currently offers 4G in my area. That being said, since I will not be using the 4G service for a good while is there anyway that we can have the premium data charge removed from our bill? Or has anyone ever got it removed?
From what I remember we can't get it removed. What if you went on vacation and ended up in a 4G area. I'm sure you would use the 4G connectivity.
Its a "premium data plan" now, they stopped using the "4G access" because people were arguing the validity of it. All smart phones require the $10 add on. There's no way out of it.

Yes that and they are not calling it a 4g fee just a generic smartphone data fee... So unfortunately if you want the phone you have to pay. Still cheaper than big red

not sure why you call it a evo or 4g tax, the premium data charge is for all smartphone devices 3g or 4g. if the $10 fee is to keep our data unlimited them im happy to pay it, and its still cheaper that vz or att. so im happy with that. so... no sprint wont take away the addon charge
I remember back when the Evo came out after I had got my Heroc that people called it the Evo tax. Ah well, I may go to DC or Raleigh and be able to use it. Just wanted to check. Thanks all....
And yeah, it is still cheper than VZW....

Yeah, I think the LTE thing has a lot to do with that...though, I don't know what the hell they expect LTE to do when WiMax is a far superior protocol as far as I am concerned. I'm sure their engineers are well aware of Sprint/Clear's worst-in-show frequencies and power limits are to blame for the horrible spotty coverage even in "full 4G" areas. Is this super expensive switch to LTE (on crappy frequencies) nothing more than a super-expensive marketing maneuver? I mean, srsly...Similar or worse protocol on the same horrible frequencies aren't going to change anything, or even make it perform worse.
4G is still rolling out slowly, just got it in my town, sprint reps didn't know anything about it. Just tried it a few weeks ago and to my surprise 5Mbps down, and 1.7 up.
Try an app in the market called "sensorly" it will show where 4G is before sprint will acknowledge it. Be sure to follow the setup for sprint and then 4G maps.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
That or just look at Clearwire's website. I have 4G coverage where I live and in some spots here in OKC, but Sprint has said nothing about it.
The 10 dollar/month fee is to keep "true unlimited data" on any smartphone according to Sprint.. and with my usage this is still cheaper than using the "death star" or "vzw" but YMMV
Yeah, that fee is also applied to the blackberry phones.

In my opinion, I think Sprint should do a 10GB or 5GB data cap before throttling.
Why?
We will NEVER have decent speeds due to thousands of people abusing the "Unlimited"
If there was a cap, the people that are using their phones for home internet and torrenting using well over 30GB of data a month and they got throttled it would help the network A LOT!
Most of us dont even use more than 5 Gigs a month anyways.
The whole unlimited thing just isn't realistic

I'm actually starting to think the same, I'm tired of having to be dealing with horrible internet speeds due to people who constantly brag about torrenting/downloading/tethering 10GB's+ a month, if they are so desperate they should just pay for home internet.
Yeah, having a data cap of 10Gigs or even 5 wouldnt be a problem. There is NO way we could use that much data unless we are torrenting or doing something ridiculous. Plus, we would have WAY better speeds
10 I'd be ok with 5 not so much

Now I average 7-11GB

My question to the OP and anyone who thinks this is a good idea... "have YOU ever been throttled?
It sucks and I've had it stick for a few months in a row with tmobile... They gave me some nice credits but it was garbage that they couldn't even fix/turn it off when it should be...
Time will come when Sprint will have throttled/tiered data... But not any time this year or first quarter so I'm good (contract ends in June)
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I am going to agree, tiered data plans are the only way we will ever see good speeds. The unlimited can stay but not at current pricing. You are completely right, because the people that abuse it are the ones too cheap to get separate internet plans for home and mobile. They are the ones destroying our speeds. At the same time, some of the problem is sprints network equipment, but when you can do a speed test and see higher upload speeds than download, that is a symptom of capacity, too many people using the download stream at the same time.
I do agree. Capping data would be great because
-It will stop people from using it as their primary connection
-It will make more people go on WiFi when they are at their homes
-People will stop using data like crazy
If they do cap it, it should be reasonable like 3-5GB cap or if you have 2+ people (family plan) 8-10GB cap. This will actually help data speeds a lot. Remember how you got 2000 kb/s that time at 3am in the morning? Data will basically be that fast all the time.
Well I'm a hoger but I also like a cap so it can make me stop using so much even if I try to use a bit I go over so I'm trying to cut back so other can have 3g I do have 4g and lately this month I've been using it more thoe
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium

exactly. their slow data has more to due to congestion (in terms of amount of people) than people abusing the unlimited data. remember, every one had unlimited data 1.5 years ago and did not have these speed issues you see on sprint.
Sounds good to me.
But I really wish that USA had a GSM dominated cellular market. HSPA+ is just sooo much better than 3G on Sprint...The one thing I really like about ATT and T-MO.
As long as Sprint continues to offer unconditional unlimited data people will use it to the maximum capacity. That is the nature of anything unlimited. As a result, quality decreases for all.
You should also be taking full advantage of your data, you pay for it and Sprint prides itself on providing it. Think of it as a buffet.

No, they went to tiered data so they can bill the end user for more money while instilling the belief that people are using too much data and they can't support it.
It reminds me of the early 80s when the gas prices climbed to .75¢ a gallon and the gloom and doom prophets said the outrageous price increase was because of a limited supply, and the world would be completely devoid of fossil fuels by...wait for it...1987. Now, I have looked around, and I see that people, nearly 30 years after the world ran out of gas, are still buying the same old BS and paying upwards of $5 a gallon...while the price in Venezuela on Monday was...get this...18¢ a gallon after converting to USD.
So, don't buy the whole limited bandwidth BS. My school has multiple Gigabit connections and probably runs through more data than the average small country because its a super computing node for some high end government cluster. I asked one of the EE professors how close they were to maxing out the fiber optic line coming in and he said "oh, occasionally we will hit half a percent of total capacity".
Moral of the story: they charge you more for tiered data because you will pay it.
Now, calling someone a ****ing moron because you believe the utter BS that a greed filled multinational conglomerate feeds you about why they want to charge you more dollars for less product is somewhat odepian in nature don't you think?

Hey, I pay the $30 a month for the wireless tethering even though I know there are ways around it. I always pay my bill on time and I have been a loyal Verizon customer for years... So you bet I'm going to use the crap out of my grandfathered in unlimited data!!! Why would I pay another $100 a month to Verizon for Fios which would just give me what I already have through my phone...? INTERNET ACCESS!!!
While ATT truly throttles their customers based on TOTAL download, VZW's stance as I'm told prior to switching a few days ago, is: If you're on a particular tower and it is congested and you've used over 2 Gigs, your traffic will be "optimized" at a preferable speed to allow other users to use the service. So, they throttle based on tower congestion.. much fairer. If you connect to a different tower, then all the "throttling / optimization" goes away and you should be back to your normal 3g/4g speeds..until you return to the throttled tower.

It's ridiculous. I didn't understand what Sprint was talking about in those commercials talking about other companies slowing your data down, I fully understand what they mean now. I like android a lot, but this pisses me off.

I really think this has more to do with your location than a blanket policy. I'm in Boston and the coverage is great here and I never have any of these issues.
You guys are seeing data-dropping and 3G/4G hand-off issues (not throttling). I see this often on the west side of Indianapolis. I spoke to VZW about it today:
https://forums.motorola.com/posts/97c770a3e8
I have been reading a lot in to it and I think thats it. It falls inline with what I was told about the phone geting an update. (He said it could very well be ICS too, but that seems unlikely now.)
This is the last thing that I would ever think to go bad with a motorola phone. I could see the GPU or CPU sucking or the FC all over, but I ever would have guessed data droping. Now I am starting to wish I got the 720p HTC phone.
I have a high degree of confidence that the issues will be resolved and that Motorola will remain the best hardware choice going forward on USA CDMA networks.
According to Droid Life and with a leaked rebate schedule, we could be getting this as early as this Thursday, May 17th (not holding my breath). With a possible price of $199 and a $50 mail-in rebate which brings the price to $149 (seems too good to be true).

Verizon announced the DROID Incredible 4G LTE last week, but for whatever reason, wasn’t ready to tell us when it would be available for purchase. We have been told by sources that it could show up either this Thursday (May 17) or during the last week of the month. Pricing, we were told weeks ago that it would come in around $149 after rebate, and at least half of that has been confirmed to us today. As you can see in the shot above, the Incredible 4G LTE is highlighted with a $50 rebate next to it. No full price to confirm just yet, but we really are fairly certain that it will come in around the $149 mark.

Considering this phone is being pegged for a mid range device and now reports are it doesn't even have a S4 in it, the price makes sense.

It has an S4. That has been confirmed. It's just not the same as the ones on the One series of phones.
I'll take longer battery life over a meager 3MHz difference in cpu speed. C'mon 1.2GHz vs 1.5GHz -can anyone even notice? I bet the battery life on the Inc4G will be better than any of the One series.

not too mention the rezound with its thickness and overheating issues.
if big red dropped the one series for this phone either, it has to be pretty decent.
im sure they have some other goodies up there sleeves but i will be purchasing this device.
I wonder if this will affect the Incredible 4G as it seems to be doing to the One X and the Evo 4G. Hope not because if it does we might have to wait awhile to get a new device.

I see the HTC Incredible 2 on that list for a 50 dollar rebate...I thought the inc 2 wasn't even being offered anymore, let alone at a price that offeres a 50 dollar rebate? Last time I remember the phone was being offered for .01 cents with a new 2 yr, back around march?

Take this for what it's worth, but I was just in a local Verizon store getting a new screen protector for my Thunderbolt and talking to the salesman about how much we like HTC phones. I asked about the Incredible 4G, and he asked me if I was going to upgrade. I asked when it might be coming out, and he said he was just talking to his Verizon rep earlier that day, and that it would be available "soon - very soon". I casually asked if I should come back Thursday, and he just said "yup" without making eye contact...

Verizon likes to announce/put out dates for their phones within days of the actual launch. Hopefully it's soon! Thursday would be awesome for sure. But that would mean the announcement would be tomorrow... Hmmm...

I know, but usually it's 2 days before it comes out. I'm not sure if they've ever announced a phone the day before.
I kinda hope not Thursday I'll be in the field thru Friday

I would assume, since it is not on their website yet, it has not released. Although I could be wrong.
I spoke with the Verizon kiosk here yesterday and they say they know 2 weeks in advance when a phone launches... but now I see them opening a large box... I shall investigate!
Edit:
And no. No new incredible today.

My wife works for Best Buy Mobile and while we haven't heard anything yet about launch yet I can say for sure that they don't always know 2 weeks ahead, they're just blowing smoke.

I appreciate the sentiment, but 3 gigahertz = 300 megahertz

I figured as much. I don't know why anyone ever believes anything they hear from a Verizon salesperson... those people are absolute morons.

Ah man, my upgrade date is April '13... I don't think I can wait till then... I already feel my Dinc2 is slow... which is especially noticeable while web browsing... I think I'll get this off contract. I hope it is not tooo costly and the price drops soon...

What ROM? Might want to give my cm9 builds a try if you haven't already.
Also, the nightly versions of Firefox run great.

i am wondering if i should get this phone and how development is going in these forums as i have a rezound and my contract is due in september should i get this phone in august as that is when i can cancel my contract or should i wait to see what else is released im switching to sprint as verizon decided to end unlimited data and i am not willing to pay retail price on a phone as i have already paid retail for the rezound so what are all of your experiences with this phone should i go for it or nah i dont like the nexus or gs3 help please!
Personally I love my EVO LTE. Honestly since you seem to be from Huston I would definitely drop Verizon and pick up this phone with Sprit.
A.) The rates are cheaper and you get TRUE unlimited data.
B.) Huston is one of the first markets that will be getting LTE on the 15th of this month so it should be running great by August.
C.) This phone is just so sexy it had to get its own letter just for that.
I had my OG EVO for 2 years and loved it. Now that I have the LTEVO I will never look back, I love this phone.

It's not that, but that paragraph has tried to disguise itself as a sentence.
You being in the first LTE roll out market, I say HELL YEAH. I would run and not walk to Sprint today and lock in unlimited data. Verizon's prices are out of control.
As a fellow Houstonian, get Sprint's EVO LTE. In about a little over a week LTE will be officially switched on. The women (or me, if you're into that sort of thing) who will fall for you will be in the thousands.
Yea I'd say switch as well. One of the early ones with LTE. I'm in Roanoke Virginia. I never came close to seeing wimax and highly highly doubt I'll see lte during this phones life.
Verizon is money hungry and petty. I'd say switch in a heartbeat and try sprints lte

Honestly, I probably would be with Verizon right now, if it weren't for the fact that Sprint just has a wider selection of more appealing phones. Another thing that sucks about Verizon is price! Sprint seems to actually be making an effort now to listen to customers and make them happy, so if you can wait for LTE and Network Vision upgrades, I think Sprint will be a better value long term.

i mean i only pay 70 bucks a month for unlimited everything because i am a vip member of verizon but no unlimited data is going to kill me i mean i have house internet but im rarely home and i use my laptop more with the hotspot off my rezound so easily i get at least 20-30gbs a month and these data plans they have released are too crazy so i think i am going with sprint on this one and yes i do remember the good old days with the evo 4g got it when it barely came out but switched after my contract was up because verizon got 4g lte but yes i am switching back to sprint and i am getting this phone the specs on this beast are awesome and then its coming out in white! oh yeah!

Sprint having the HTC EVO line of phones is worth the switch. Best smartphones ever made!
I dropped Verizon on Launch day of the EVo. I've had Sprint for over 10 years.

Please do!! get the Rezound. That way we can have one less taking room of the LTE signal.

Did you have both Sprint and Verizon then? Your comment confused me, since the EVO is only two years old. Your two sentences seemed to contradict one another.

let me help you out here my friend......... think about this....
is unlimited data even a validated feature when the fastest download speed you will achieve will be 2 mb down? here is my argument. at this point, this means you will ALWAYS be on wifi when at home, assuming you have wifi....
so the question is, how FAST will your carrier connection be, and how much of a *#&$ing nightmare is it going to be for YOU to have UNGODLY SLOW mobile data...?
if this does not apply to you, (meaning you never access internet when on the go - unlikely) then disregard this analysis.
here is the thing...
on verizon's network, your mobile connection will be conveniently fast, this will be something you notice, trust me.
so here is what i would do. if it were me in your shoes... stay with the faster network. these are not "phones" they are computers. and how irritating as **** is it when your laptop loads web pages in 30 seconds. or even 10........... try to fathom what this transition will be to you and how it will effect you personally.
1. use wifi when at home (not sure why anybody wouldn't anyways, it is always faster) this will save your "usage" of your limited data plan.
2. use that 2 gb or whatever data plan you have, simply to conveniently access things while on the move.
3. thank me for this post. i probably saved you from hanging yourself.
