As Many times as I've used the LongPress features to Highlight, the Copy and Paste, I've Never Knew about the Quick Lookup feature!
So I figured I'd Share it with Whoever just kind of Overlooked it like Me, Lol...

Whoever Already Knew About this, Just Disregard this Whole thing... Lol!
Strange...if I long press on any text in the stock browser, I only get two options that popup: "copy" or "share via". Where and when are you seeing the quick lookup option? My phone is unrooted.
You need to copy a word or sentence then the option quick lookuo shld be there.
Nothing to do with being rooted.

Not sure what I'm doing differently than whats shown in the video. I tap and hold a portion of text, I get the two green selection arrows, and I'm only given the two options mentioned earlier. Nothing about quick lookup.

Yup. I'm thinking I must have uninstalled it when I was browsing through the apps list. Can someone verify if the Quick Lookup feature is uninstallable from the Manage Applications menu? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the thread!

No Problem man, Glad you Like it...
Wow, well how were you doing any copy and paste from websites, or even other txt in edit fields if you didn't know about this? Or did you just not know you could do it?
I believe this is only a feature of sense, right? So if you use a nonsense ROM you won't have it. Unless it is a feature of Swype?

Hello all,
I'm looking for some of one really missing functionality on android phones .
An iphonelike magnifier cursor tool !
I think everybody can see what I mean : you hold your finger on the text, then a magnifier bubble appears making easy and precise to move the cursor (or select) !
Strangely, the feature is available on recent htc (legend and others) but ONLY for rendered text and NOT for text fields ...
Nobody can make an app/service for that feature ?
I'm ready to pay for it ! (and I think I'm not the only one...)
please please please .
keep this topic up if you agree !
+1 that would be cool
I've wanted this since day one since I came from an iPhone 3g to android (n1)
i feel like this should be implemented into the OS... its the one thing android lacks, that and pinch zoom email
+1. I would love this too. Can someone here build it?

If you can't read the text, make it bigger in settings or put some glasses on.
It's not about seeing it's about the text selection / copy + paste. One thing iPhone definitely does better is copy + paste. I'm no fan boy (read my sig) but there is no denying the iPhone wins on this point. I would love this on my nexus one.
Yer copy is better any one fix

In that case +2.
Silly me.

On devices with a trackball or similar, you can use that to navigate text fields on character at a time.
Don't know what they do on devices without one.

yes I agree the track ball does work fine, but the magnification would work even better.

I don't know about other phones but Motorola Milestone XT720 got this function by default. Just press and hold for a while and the magnifier pop-up. It's very easy to set the cursor precisely where I want. Is that default in Eclare or only in this particular phone?

It is only for this particular phone I'm afraid ... I've never seen the feature on any android devices by now .
Except on HTCs but only for rendered text (not for text fields : sms etc) .
Can someone extract the feature from the XT720 ?

The Motorola Cliq XT with Donut 1.5 also comes with this feature!!
Up, really really need this feature
Does that Zoom Bubble finally avaible?? Maybe someone made a module for it??
RR has this feature.
If you type in *#*#4636#*#* you get to the testing page. I couldn't help but notice that when you are done with using the testing page and you go back to the home screen and "long hold" Home, to get the pop up of most recent application used, the testing page is one of those options. If it can do that, shouldn't this mean that it would be easy to make an application of this? Rather than dialing *#*#4636#*#* each and every time.
I am in no means able to develop something like this, but this would be a cool development for those who are not rooted.

i think the spare parts app is already available at the market?
edit: hm, ok.. phone information is missing @ spare parts i think
Never noticed,..you are right.
Nice idea
I beleive you can create a shortcut to the testing menu using Bettercut

Maybe I'm just slow but I've noticed a few apps built into this phone that are hidden from the Sense launcher but not when I use the AOSP gingerbread launcher. I've seen Fb Chat, Quick lookup, car mode, mirror, and I'm sure there are others. Does anyone know why these can't be accessed from the Sense launcher? It seems really weird to me haha.
You can access some apps like mirror and car panel if you hit the bottom right search button from any screen and type "mirror", for example. You can then tap on the app there. I believe facebook chat is only available as a widget...
Is there a list of these hidden apps or apps not seen by sense?
I don't know... Good question. It would be great if someone can post them here. I wonder what other goodies they are hiding.

Just do a search in your phone for 'Chat' and you find Fb Chat.
Fb Chat comes up. Open it.
Winning.
The only other one that I saw not mentioned was "SIM Toolkit." When I tried to run it, a message popped up, stating that "SIM Toolkit is not ready."
I have noticed that in both ADWLauncher EX and Launcher Pro Plus, you can put a kinda cool camcorder icon on your home screen but it doesn't show in Sense.

Dude good call haha it worked for mirror too... Never even thought to try that. Now how the he'll do we make a shortcut lol

I'm still looking for the answer to this. I just hit search, type fb, and open it.
Then to go back into it, just pull down the notification bar, and tap it again when I need.
I don't even know how to make sure it stays in memory!
The Fb Chat widget put my phone into an infinite bootloop and I had to reset my phone. So I'm not using that thing again.
ya it would be nice to be able to use quick lookup and flashlight in my quicklaunch think on lockscreen
You can use the app Any Cut to make a shortcut. I've also read you can do it with a file explorer. I did it with Any Cut.

Anyone else notice that the double tap the top of the phone gesture does not work in the music app?
me too, tried everywhere only works on my contact lists
it only works in certain menus and screens. read the description under the option for full list. im too lazy to search for it.
Not sure why they didn't make it work with any scrollable region.
that would have been convenient. id think thats a software update thing that could be added later?

There actually is, but on Galaxy S3. Maybe on the Note II as well. It only works for some Samsung apps like memo or other built in apps that have scrollable lists, I believe.

Bull****, the amount of features they added with the premium pack in 4.1.2 is impressive.
Hey guys
I downloaded the new Swype Beta and they seemed to have taken out the option to manually add words to the dictionary...
Is there any way to do this? I can't seem to find anyway to do it.
Thanks,
Elliott

such a shamefull act from ur part ma8 being a senior member on XDA u should 'Lead By Example' in fallowing the rules, not bumping ur post like this.
better add some more usefull info to ur OP so that members can do the needfull
No hardfeelings though
Thanks but I don't believe I broke any rules?...
The rule states:
"16. Bumping Threads (posting simply to force a thread to the top of the thread queue)
Do not "bump" a thread more than once per 24 hours."
I bumped >24 hours on each... Give or take one time that was 2 hours off...big deal.

BTW, what version of Swype beta are you using?

You're right..but I would have given up long before then...
I guess it's Swype Beta v1.1.1.7628
Actually nevermind. I found it on the Swype forums (didn`t even know those existed)
You can still use the manual add method: just tap the word you want to add and press the Swype key. You'll see the "Add [word] to dictionary" prompt appear. Just tap that prompt, and BOOM! Word is now in your Personal Dictionary.

Not always, if it has special characters -it won't give you the option of saving the word. E.g: I removed .com from the default dictionary by accident, tried to put it back in and I can't.
Also I always use the " - " dash in text messages etc, it used to have a shortcut going from space, to the - key and back. But that's been removed.
If there's any way to edit this stuff, I'd be stoked.

Yes, but it is a bit annoying. Basically, select the word you want to add, then hit the Swype key. However, to add a word you have to have the keyboard open...
I find the best way is to email myself a list of words I want added, stuff with punctuation in it that you can't add normally etc., then open that email on your phone/tablet, and hit forward or reply so that the text you want to add is now editable and the Swype keyboard is open. Then, select the things you want to add (one at a time) and hit the Swype key on each one. It is annoying and slow, but does work.
if u just clear data and the uninstall then reinstall the dictionary starts working for some reason, at least lets u add ords
