[Q] Buying Atrix (non-4G), need advice - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i'm about to buy myself an Atrix (non-4G) in a week or so and i need to know couple of things first.
1) While searched for similar info i read that fingerprint reader (and couple of other sensors too) doesn't work on CM7, is that true?
2) In which stadium and how stable is CM7 on Atrix?
3) I read somewhere that ClockWork Recovery don't recognize Atrix's internal storage and that it needs an external storage, sdcard (which sucks) to operate, is that true?
4) Any other suggestion/advice i should be aware off?
Thanks a lot!

1. Fingerprint works with CM7 weekly 2 build.
2. Gillette Stadium rocks the Pats, CM7 is very stable on the Atrix.
3. Romracer's recognizes both internal and external.
4. Read, read, read..............then read some more!..............Start here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600

Yeah everything in the OP seems outdated. FP CM7 All work great only thing missing as of today that I'm aware of is webtop on cm7 but there are either ROMs that include this.
CM7 Newest Weekly @1.45ghz, thanks XDA Developers!!

A non-4g Atrix? I don't think there is such a thing.

Tell us which carrier or model your buying. All are "4g", such a finkle term. Its carrier based. Att gives me 4g/3g/3.5g at 500-800KB/s down and 260 up. Where others might be like T-Mobile in my area is 1100+. Maybe in your area or sellers area it might be only 200 so they might say non 4g?

Nah dudes, i'm buying it in Europe, far, far from USA carriers.
There are ATRIX and ATRIX 4G.
Comparison of those two.

Can a bluetooth external GPS be used?

Has anyone ever tried using an external bluetooth gps device? There is a lap timing app(trackmaster) that really benefits from one. My current phone is an HTC Hero. The oem Sense rom didn't let me use it, because it seemed to only allow bluetooth audio devices. Switching to Cm6/Cm7 got things working.
I was just wondering of the Photon could use a bluetooth external gps out of the box. By the way, here's the one I'm using http://www.qstarz.com/Products/GPS Products/BT-Q890-F.htm
I looked into settings on my photon and I don't think it can. Outside of mods and custom ROMs, I don't think the photon will accept input from an external GPS.
CM7 probably represents your best chance for this, but we don't have a working stable CM7 rom for this phone yet.

[Q] Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V) 911 and Fixes/Roms

My girlfriend recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V). I enjoy all the features I get from rooting, etc on my G2. I saw the Gingerbread update from T-Mobile and have installed it for her. I wanted her to be able to have root, remove bloatware and have the lagfix (voodoo, assuming it is still needed) working. As I was getting ready to find her a good ROM this CM 911 dustup happened. It's ok if she keeps the Samsung ROM, my question is where is this 911 "feature" stored? In other words, what can be done to her phone without destroying emergancy calling? I am pretty sure just rooting it is fine. Removing bloatware after rooting should be good also. I believe the lagfix replaces the kernel. If the kernel gets replaced will that break 911 calls? Is anyone working on a stock GB ROM (as officially released Nov 15) that would have root, removed bloat, and anything else safe that keeps 911 working? I would be glad to wipe the phone, root, remove bloat, (lagfix?) myself and post. I just do not know what is safe to play with. Is this just a radio issue, library issue or kernel issue? Any information would be appriciated. I would like to make her android experiance a good one that still allows her to call 911. I have searched the forums and the web but can't seem to nail down a good answer of what can be changed and what must be left alone to allow 911 to work.
911 operators are drunks anyways... here's some proof, provided from a random Google search.
This is the vibrant forum,sgh-t959 not t959v... very different..
From my understanding, cm7 is the only one with the 911 problem (and any rom coming from cm7)
. Stick to samsung roms and your good. Also the 911 thing isnt the end of the world.. you call them, they cant hear you.. hang up and theyll call you back

Ah, since the download for the updater said "Vibrant" (offical from Samsung) and the model number is so close I assumed they were mostly the same. I see now there is a S 4G forum. Sorry for the mix up. I would assume this phone could have the same issues if CM was ported. Currently it is listed as not supported. I'll move to the right forum and dig some more. Sorry for the waste of space. If anyone knows if these are affected by the 911 issue feel free to chime in. Or if a moderator wants to move this to the othe forum feel free.
Thanks
Lol the waste of space is no big deal and your right, id forgotten that they call yours the vibrant 4g. But still the two phones are very different hardwarewise, idk why.

Orange Signal Boost on ICS Roms?

Does anybody know of an ICS rom with Orange Signal Boost built into it? Or a way to put Signal Boost onto my ICS flash? I've tried the flashable zip that was somewhere on the forum but it just kept making my phone say that there was no sim card inserted the Signal Boost app wouldn't launch....
Thanks!
In short no!
The Orange signal boost is some how linked to something in the stock orange ROMs so unless Orange release it to work on non Orange roms we wont benefit from SB.
One of the reasons why I have dropped back to stock + siyah 2.6.12
Although there may be a way I spent a good amount of time trying to find an apk & then get it to work.

It has already been extracted and tested in non Orange roms. Works just as it should.

I stand corrected
Although when I was looking I found no mention of it working & the apk I got wouldn't work (don't know if its the same one as your referring to though)
I downloaded a CWM file, when you flash it it puts the necessary files in place in lets you use it. I've tested that on stock Gingerbread, but it seems that there must be a different method for doing it on ICS. Thanks for your replies anyway guys

PM this guy as it's working for him http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21566403&postcount=174
Could someone post their findings on how to get this working on ICS?
I think there are quite a few people looking for this now. please post how they got it working. Maybe the ICS Rom used also
Thanks
Hey guys,
Are there any t-mobile USA WiFi calling files on this device? I ask as I managed to get orange UK WiFi calling on my HTC sensation, however the files I got didn't work. Ended up using the USA files but pushing the orange UK apk instead.
Obviously the sgs2 is a different device so your mileage may vary, but the apk is in a thread I made over in the sensation forums.
I can't say it will work, so make sure you do suitable backups. Good luck
Raty
Has anyone yet been able to get this working before Orange release their ICS?
No-one got this working yet?
+1 i would really like to get this working on an ics rom, i tried the other thread too but with my admittedly limited knowledge nothing will work! If anybody has any ideas i am more than willing to try them or help out in any way i can!
There seems to be lots of people looking to get this working, lets see if we can contribute and help out!

Still no progress?
I had Signal Boost working pretty well on my SIM free SGS2 when it was running GB-2.3.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208830&page=15
Now that Orange UK has finally released ICS-4.0.3, can't we just extract the new versions of the 6x files and run those instead of the GB versions?
From what I have read the GB version of Signal Boost isn't compatible with ICS and stops the GS2's from being able to read the SIM card.
Shouldn't it be that easy? Apologies as I am a relative noob.

[Q] CM 10 and no data connection

Hi guys... I'm trying to solve a problem with my Vibrant, CM10 works except it doesn't give me data connection. But first I have to tell you a bit of a backstory
So, a couple of months ago I was a Vibrant CM9 user, never been able to solve the data problem with CM10 so I stick w/ 9. Then I decided to sell my phone and I put up an annuncment saying the phone has this and that and that and it comes with ICS.
Then CM9 for Vibrant disappeared from CM site (never understood why) and I couldn't sell my device with a ROM that was not supported anymore. I found a buyer and told him that actually I wasn't able to give him the phone w/ ICS and he was fine with it, so I sold the phone.
Now he just called me and said that the CM7 was draining is battery in 4h (never happened to me) and so he had someone installing another ICS custom ROM (he doesn't know which one) but it is buggy and bla bla bla and he asked for my help.
I don't want to ignore him, I was the one who kinda dropped the ball in the first place not giving him what I promised, and the easiest, quickest and better way to help him would be to having him install CM10 and solve the data connection thing. Another easy way would be to get a CM9 zip, but there must have been a reason for them to remove it... right?
Why all the story? To tell you that now I have to fix a problem on a device that I don't have with me
Now I explained everything to him and instructed him to install CM10, and I'm waiting to hear back from him.
I live in Italy and I have a minor carrier, he has one of the big ones... I was hoping that that alone could solve the problem, but most likely it doesn't matter at all.
Any suggestions?
Thank you a lot in advance.
Flashing any Jelly Bean ROM on one of the Vibrants I have with no SIM card installed will yield no cell data when the card is put back in.
Flash the same ROM with the SIM card in and cell data comes up perfect.
If you're flashing with the SIM card out it might be worth trying with it back in...
The other Vibrant I have doesn't care at all if the card is in or out.
Thank you for your help, I don't believe this applies to the Vibrant that I had, but I'll remember it and I'll try to put the sim in and out or something. The guy didn't reply to me yet... we'll see.
In the mean time any other thoughts are welcome
CM7 should NOT be used. Ideally you should run CM10 or CM10.1 to make sure you have the best E911 experience.
Has he tried flashing CM10 maybe it'll work with his SIM card or however he does it.

Did you mean CM9? Because of the EU Bug? Or what is wrong with CM7?
Anyway E911 is not important because in Europe the universal emergency number is that uses the E911 system is 112, but here in Italy we are retarded and we didn't implemented it yet. Seems like it's a work-in-progress thing, but it's complicated because in Italy 112 has always been another emergency number (carabinieri answer to it)... and also because we are retarded.

CM7 and probably part of CM9 had intermittent issues so latest CM10 is best.

I used for a while the CM9 on sensation xe and had no issues with data connection. After moving to the CM10 (CM version= 10-20130119-EXPERIMENTAL-pyramid) I'm now having that problem. The WIFI works great but no data connection on the mobile network. I tried rebooting, wiping cach/dalvik cach, reset network to default settings...nothing worked for me.
any help!

N4 conversion VS LGOG based AOSP/CM/AOKP etc etc?

So what are the pros and cons.... I know about the partition. Are they any other issues with the conversion? If you came back from N4 what made you come back? Cos after the SD card, NFC and LTE fix what else was broken? Thanks in advance.

My main reason for doing the conversion was to get hybrid ROMs like Rootbox or PACman (which weren't available natively on LGOG at the time). To me, really the only pro is a larger selection of ROMs. This isn't necesarily a better selection, just bigger - it depends on what you are specifically looking for in a ROM as to whether this makes it worth it or not.
With the available fixes already posted, there really aren't any huge cons either - GPS works, camera works, you get full internal storage and external SD support. However, there were cases I ran across where I couldn't get certain fixes working with certain ROMs - things like touch key lights not working and the like. I'm sure they are fixable in these cases, it just takes someone smarter than me to figure out how.
I think the main reason the conversion is frowned upon is that there isn't a compelling, across-all-ROMs improvement or feature that would be available on a converted device that isn't available on the 'native' track. So why risk a brick monkeying with partition layouts and potentially dangerous N4 install scripts (apparently some of them flash using partition numbers rather than names, and this will kill ya dead - gotta read carefully. I never ran across one).
I had minimal issues when running converted ( I think I was running that way for 3 weeks or so maybe?? Can't remember). Most of the issues were things that were more annoyances, rather than real usage problems. However, as my main reason for converting was to get a hybrid ROM, once houstonn brought Rootbox to the LGOG natively, I decided to come back. I'm usually a little short on time, and it was getting difficult to keep up with all the LGOG threads, plus all the N4 ROM threads, plus figuring out how to fix the ROMs for use on the LGOG. It's easy here, a one stop shop for LGOG learning, if you will...
I suspect with the native 4.2.2 stuff running around here now, there will be a steady decrease in the amount of 'development' on conversion stuff - it seems quite a bit quieter now than it was a month or 2 ago. I'd rather stay where the action is, as that's usually where the little remaining issues get solved first.
FWIW, I had no issues either converting to, or back from, N4. The threads here do a good job of spelling out the process - it's just a matter of reading through them enough times to understand what is going on and what to expect at each step.
Thanks for writing up your experience... The main reason I asked this question was... Some of the (if not all of them) AOSP Roms have major issues like if GPS works something else will be broken and if something else worksworks other is broken. But I did not see that in N4 conversion. (At least to my knowledge) I'm just talking about just pure aosp Roms. ..is this a trurt statement I'm making? Thanks in advance.

I can't say for certain - most of these 'tradeoff' issues, at least from what I've seen, seem to revolve around which modem you choose to run. I believe, at the moment the only 100% no issue setup is and ICS ROM with ICS modem. I believe these issues persist whether you are on N4 conversion or native LGOG setup - but I could be wrong here.
Here's the basic breakdown - somebody correct me if I'm wrong on these, I haven't run most of these setups personally:
If you run ICS modem on JB ROM, you get broken GPS.
If you run .33 N4 modem you get good GPS and Data speeds, but occasional data drops. Also, apparently you can't make outgoing calls in LTE coverage. You can fix the data connection by toggling airplane mode. This isn't a huge issue for most people, but is for me as I use Google voice and IM apps for messaging (rather than SMS) so if I don't notice the data drop and toggle, I'm missing messages.
If you run ATT JB modem on JB ROMs you get working GPS, decent data speed, and working LTE calling. All Outgoing calls drop to a background process after initiation, so if after hitting dial you need to interact with the call, you have to open the notification drawer and then click on the call to foreground it. Does not impact actual functioning of the call. Network name is reported as 'maritime' rather than AT&T.
I think there's another N4 modem that will work with LTE (.27 maybe - somebody jump in here) so that might be another option...I haven't tried it. there is one N4 modem that breaks LTE support.
I've been almost exclusively on houstonn's RootBox since coming back to native setup - so I may have missed issues with other ROMs - I do try to keep up with all the threads though. Hopefully someone else on one of the others can chime in with other issues, if there are any, that I missed. FWIW, I have never lost GPS on my device...I'm not sure why some have and some haven't...

One stop shopping for all your radio needs.
Thanks again both of you... t I wanted to know why and I think I got what I was looking for.. Anyway, I guess I will stick with my rooted stock JB for now till some of these issues get resolved. Thanks again for all your time.
