Greetings everyone.
I bought the sony tablet s a few days back.. to be specefic, its been 5 days.
Came out with honeycomb 3.2 out of the box,,, updated to 3.2.1.
Following are my reviews about the product :-
1. Screen : beautiful, not excess contrast or color saturation. Very very crisp. A treat to the eye.
2. Performance : upto all standards. No magic, just any other honeycomb tablet.
3. Design : best in the market, very easy to hold... unless u wish to force yourself to have the slim design of the ipad which is almost completely copied over to the samsung galaxy tab.
4. Built quality : premium. Although plastic, but feels premium quality.
5. Audio : normal affair on the stereo loudspeakers, but absolutely amazing on the earphones... the inbuilt amplifier is a beast.
Verdict : better than the rest in the market, worth every single penny.
Workaround for known issues :-
1. Vedio format/codec support : use "MX-player" or "dice player".... I am able to play any damn format, whether 720p or 1080p.
2. Media apps unable to access files (photos, videos, music) on the external SD card : use "quickpic" for images and "power Amp" for music. Both these apps have the option that lets the user choose which folder should be accessed.
3. Wifi sleep issue : use the app "advanced wifi lock"..free version.
I agree I am a sony fanboy,, but truth remains that if you have will to make things work, u will stick to your faith.
Any queries... pls respond to this thread... will be happy to explore n share more workarounds,, if required.

Hi Leo Users,
I am considering buying this phone but I need to see how well it handles in android.
Can someone post a video using one of the most recent and more working roms? I want to get an idea of how well it goes.
1. What is currently not supported on the leo?
2. Does all of its ram get ported in android or does it use only a smaller part?
3. What about the camera? Is the camera app using the camera to it's full potential?
4. Video playback? Does it play hd?
5. Is a nand installation of android possible?
Thank you!

1. For each Android distro out there it says in its own topic what's working and what it is not. I know it can't record video in HD 720p.
2. As far as I know, Android uses all available RAM.
3. There are still some issues with the camera, mostly because improvements are still made to native Android phones. I doubt you will use the camera like that. I don't consider it a low point.
4. Video playback is really good and it also plays HD. I tried with some Youtube HD videos and they were ok. Haven't tried with a computer encoded fully fledged HD. I know that there are video players on Android Market that can play all Xvid encoded videos out of the box. Just copy it on the SD card and you are set.
5. At this moment, NAND installation is not possible. There were some major improvements done and I think it will be possible to be functional at some point.
6. I would add the fact that HD2 can run a lot of Android flavors because it can launch them from within WinMobile. This is something you can never achieve with a native Android phone.
7. Battery drainage is still heavy. Every day something new is discovered on how to improve battery life.
I see you own a Wildfire. HD2 is a lot better that it. I read it on a Romanian tech blog, an editor made a comparison between native Android phones and HD2.
I mean in the web browser - if you want to use the slidebar in the video to move forward / backward. Is it just me or does it really suck badly ? Like in a youtube video (but basically in any other flash video you can find online):
1.) the slidebar is very thin and requires a hell of a motoric coordination to use and avoid miss-clicks etc. Sometime you change its position and it will slide back.
2.) then finally even if you succeed in rewinding the video it often just "hangs" (especially when you try rewinding subsequently couple of times) and all you can do is just reload the page. This happens in close proximity to router when speedtest app shows 32/4 Mbit and < 10ms pings. While on on the desktop (and on the wire) you can rewind as many times as you wish easily and without problems.
Try to compare 1.) for example with stock video player - any way how to make online videos slide as easily without first downloading them ? The whole thing to me looks like they put flash into the new gen of phones as a marketing trick. Like the hardware capabilities are all there but the software still lags behind and it is not optimized for handheld devices - is this correct ?

Now that ICS has been released i have a few questions for current Mediapad owners that hopefully will help me decide if want to get one
1) I know that the mediapad is not the benchmark leader, do games like "temple run" and "wind up knight" run smoothly on it?
2) Is the native android SIP (internet calling) enabled in the final ICS version?
3) I read a lot of complaint out the touchscreen sensitivity. Has it been fixed in the latest ICS build?
4) How the web browser?
5) When you connect your mediapad through the HDMI out, how is the picture quality?
Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

1) yes.
2) no. At least it isn't exposed in the Huawei native phone app.
3) still the same, at least compared to the last beta build. Not really a problem though. But the jitter is more pronounced in high resolution setting (basically it will set the dpi to low, thus would look like 10" tablet scaled to 7"... Everything is smaller).
4) never encountered any problem. You can also use other browser like Dolphin and it would also be accelerated (basically Dolphin runs very smooth in ICS vs laggish in Galaxy Note).
5) looks low resolution (unless for portrait apps). So basically the same as previous build. I haven't use HC, so I don't know how much better it supposed to be, but compared to Galaxy Note, the note have better image quality but everything run more sluggish when using HDMI compared to mediapad which run very smooth but at lower resolution (and probably lower color depth also?).

1. Never mind the benchmarks, everything I've thrown at it runs smoothly (the likes of GTA III, DeadSpace, Shadowgun, Six Guns, and so on).
2. The client is not included.
3. I'm using hi-res mode and don't have any problems or annoyances.
4. I'm using Opera and it works great. Stock one is not causing any trouble either.
5. Not tested yet. Sorry.
Thanks guys!
For the screen issue, does it mean yo sometimes have to tap twice on items when using high res mode?
I also read on some forum that there are issued with Skype video on the latest release. Con someone confirm?
I will download the system files and see how to enable the native SIP client. It is normally a setting in the framework-Res.apk file.

As long as you have steady hand/finger while tapping and light touch then it shouldn't be a problem. The biggest annoyance is when you play something that need steady aim like angry birds and shooting games (contract killer or other games that you basically need to hold your finger at the screen steadily) because it will be jittery. It isn't that you can't play it, but it definitely add an extra challenge to the game. Skype issue is mostly on the skype itself. I haven't tested it yet (on the official build), but I read in skype forum that some other ICS devices also have this green video problem.

Not at all. However, everything is about half (two thirds maybe) the size when in hi-res, so if you have (very) large hands it might be a problem. Like rurou said "like 10" tablet scaled to 7""...
Hello everyone,
So like many of you I picked up an HP TouchPad when they were on sale. I gave the TouchPad to my Grandma. I figured it would be worth it alone for just using it as an interactive photo frame. With 32GB of space to spare I even put some QuickTime videos converted from home video VHS tapes.
While it works well for that, the organization of the Photo program on WebOS isn't the best. Viewing photos and albums isn't as simple as I thought it may be. So I started looking at some other options as far as alternative OS for the TouchPad. It looks like Android seems to be running quite well on the device (from what I've seen). So I was wondering if any of you could suggest a build / type of Android install I should attempt to use?
My needs are simple. I would like a nicer Photo Management software (if available with video playback for QuickTime / MPEG-4 files) and working Wi-Fi The ability to have multiple icons on a home screen is good. It makes it easier for her to select what she wants to do. Is there an option to make a keyboard larger? Or is there any font options to make things larger? She'll be 93 this month, and although her vision is pretty good, she can use all the help she can get.
Skype would be nice, but from what I understand camera and microphone compatibility is limited. Of course I'd like it to be as stable as possible. I haven't looked at her TouchPad in a bit, I'll see if there are any WebOS updates before continuing. But I'm curious as to what is out there to make this tablet a bit easier to use.
Thank you in advance for your help!

The CM9 builds are very stable and extremely usable. Try the nightly builds for good wifi. Also, the latest nightlies have working mic, though not camera.
There are tons of photo managers and video players on the Google Play Store; I like QuickPic for photos, but I don't watch a lot of videos.
The default homescreen has multiple icons.
There is an option for larger font in Settings -> Accessibility -> Large Text.
Several 3rd-party keyboards allow you to change the size of the keyboard. For example, I use SwiftKey, and it has 4 sizes. It is paid, though.
