Reward for S-Off on the Rezound - HTC Rezound

So I was thinking today about how badly I want to get Perm Root on my Rezound, but don't possess the skills to do it myself.
I've seen lots of Devs/Threads/Groups asking for donations for working on a solution, but I wasn't sure if what I would be willing to offer would sweeten the pot at all.
I have an available upgrade for a new phone on one of my lines, and I was thinking about offering the individual (or Dev Group) that first comes up with a working S-Off Perm Root for the Rezound with any Verizon Smartphone, current or future. (So, for example, if they wanted, they could get S-Off on the Rezound and then choose the Galaxy Nexus when it is released as their 'reward' device.)
What I would like to know is if any of the Devs/Dev Teams would be interested in this, and if so, please respond to this thread... Of course, I would love a special little something special (become an official Tester for ROMs before the Dev publicly releases them or something similar). I am amenable to something simple as that, though we can work out details after the fact. At this point I just want to see who's interested in this special "reward."

That's quite an offer. Awfully good of you. I would be willing to chip in at least 50 toward the cause.

What is S-off?
What exactly is S-off, for those of us who don't know?

I'll chip in 50 as well!

In their devices, HTC have installed a sort of security check whose level is determined by S-OFF/S-ON. Essentially, this security level is a flag stored on the device’s radio that checks signature images for any firmware before it is allowed to be written to system memory. This hinders using any custom ROMs, splash images, recovery etc., and also restricts access to the NAND flash memory. However, when security level is set to S-OFF, the signature check is bypassed, allowing a user to upload custom firmware images, unsigned boot, recovery, splash and HBOOT images, as well as official firmware that has been modified, this enabling maximum customization of your HTC Android device.
Furthermore, S-OFF also reduces restrictions on accessing the NAND flash memory on the device, allowing all partitions (including /system) to be mounted in write mode while the operating system is booted.

So, $280 so far! Not to mention those who have already donated in other locations.

OP: It'd probably be a good idea to keep the current total in the title so that it's easier to keep track. Saw this in the EVO 3D forums for cracking the 1.500 HBOOT

We on the vivid forums have own bounty to get s-off. My question is what hboot do you rezound owners have? If its the same as the vivid, maybe we can join forces to combine our bounties....
Here is the link to our bounty-----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347024

25$ from me

Rezound has 2.10.0000 or something like that. Know the first 4 characters are 2.10.???

I am willing to donate my rezound for testing, but if achieved without my donation then ill donate 100$ towards the achiever.

ill put $10 towards it.

Unstable Temp Root.

Who here feels exhausted the way I do about the unstable temp root that doesn't last very long. How far is teamwin from achieving permanent root?
Sent from my Evo 3d that Chuck Norris touched.
It'll be done when its done..I appreciate their progress and their efforts..They busted down the wall, now they will clean up the mess..Temp root isn't for me and I knew this coming in..I know there is progress being made and that's all I care about at the moment.

Personally, I wouldn't rely on the EVO3D forum to stay abreast on news about rooting or anything. a certain Mod killed the developers desire to stick around here.
head over to the Sensation area, and you'll find that people have found ways to make the root stick 100% until actual reboot occurs and so on. that is where I'm staying up to date.
My temp root lasts until I reboot. I used the script found in the developers section and so far I've maintained root all day. At least, Titanium Backup works everytime I fire it up.

This technically should not be called "Temp Root", in a traditional sense.
Perhaps "Momentary Root"
I would be satisfied with the Traditional Temp root since 99% of my need for it is just to run Hot Spot and I don't care if it's a few clicks.

I didn't bother with temp root, not for me.
I do watch the sensation forum for real info due to the douche bag that ruined the chance to watch progress here.
I haven't really messed with it too much either. I'm just happy to see the progress coming so quickly. I thought it would be a while before we saw anything resembling root.

considering that haus has a ENG bootloader, why doesn't he just get temp root, then flash it onto the phone? They would have S-OFF.
I think all this time is being spent on a custom recovery made by Team Win that is supposedly packed with features. That is great and all....but I would prefer a faster release with less recovery features initially...before HTC beats them to the finish line.

Our bootloader is still write protected......So, even though we have the eng. loader from the early system dump, it still can't be flashed over the one that we have without cracking the write protection first.

That is interesting. Because root should allow you to change permissions. Getting temp root was the last hurdle at one point in xhausx's thread in the dev forum and the irc chats. Unless this "temp root" is really limited? I dunno

That was my understanding as well based on other android phones, however it seems HTC has substantially changed the design of the phone. I have followed a few of the developement threads, post for post since their inceptions and it turns out this is something entirely new that our devs are having to deal with. Sorry I can't find a link to where it was referenced......If someone could and post it that would be great.
Found it. This is copy & pasted from RVDigital's Faq sheet in the developement section:
What about S-OFF?
20:10 <@agrabren> Short of "where are we at for s-off".
20:10 <@joshua_> Sure. This device is eMMC, and also has a signed bootloaer. This means that S-OFF is a ways further out than just soft root.
20:11 <@joshua_> I can answer from my experience working closely with the AlphaRev X team that S-OFF on Sensation is goign to be harder than previous devices we've worked with.
20:11 <@joshua_> I think EVO 3D is very similar to Sensation, so I suspect the same to be true there.
20:11 <@joshua_> Someone asked me what eMMC is: Older phones (EVO 4G) are based on NAND flash; eMMC is a different type of flash.
20:12 <@joshua_> eMMC has different types of write protection that we haven't worked with before.
20:12 <@agrabren> And we plan to work together to solve some of these issues.
20:14 <@joshua_> (We've all been working pretty closely on this, including scotty.)
20:14 <@agrabren> you think this particular exploit will eventually lead to s-off, or is it too early to tell?
20:14 <@agrabren> (Sending this one to joshua_
20:15 <@joshua_> agrabren, the AlphaRevX exploit requires userspace root, and that was one of the big things holding it back on gbread
20:22 <@agrabren> Joshua: whats the difference between unlocked and s-off?
20:22 <@joshua_> S-OFF, unlocked, etc are fuzzy terms, especially now that we are on eMMC.
20:23 <@joshua_> S-OFF used to refer to a specific configuration in which the radio told hboot that it was "OK" to flash anything it wanted, essentially.
20:23 <@joshua_> (It also would refer to an ENG hboot.)
20:23 <@joshua_> On eMMC, that state no longer exists.
20:24 <@joshua_> unlocked is not really a term that applies to CDMA phones; in general, it refers to the ability to put a SIM card from a differnet carrier into your phone. the "NAND lock", or write protection, or anything like that does apply, and refers to being able to write /system
20:24 <@joshua_> (I think that's needed for Cyanogen.)
Team Win seemed pretty confident about releasing s-off to the masses or whatever. They made temp root sound like it ****s up your phone at one point. I hate having to use an exploit when ****ing htc can just release it to us in an official ota. I dont understand why they are waiting. Bunch of **** suckers. I really wish Team Win didnt tell everyone they had temp root so that HTC would still have more pressure on them. DONT FLAME BECAUSE OF MY OPINION!

A little Ironic... scared of unlocking phones because people might brick them?

After patiently awaiting s-off so that I can install custom roms, splash screens boot animations etc. I find it ironic that HTC doesn't, in part, want the bootloader unlocked so that people won't screw up their phones. In the mean time, our ADD minds have gone the safe route by...
Pulling out T5 torque wrenches to disassemble our phones to change home key color
Tearing the phone apart to repaint it
Playing with QPST which is not a toy at all (talk about f-ing your phone up) to remove the Sprint banner or change the volume
Using PC's to rip out your MSL key to change Wimax or 3G settings (which is much easier to do now thanks to XDA)
Back to QPST... Changing the PRL if we don't like the new one.
Re-rooting 40x when ad free fails (and it does work just glitchy)
Don't get me wrong, all of these ideas are awesome and I have done all except the physical assault on my 3VO... If s-off isn't here soon, Radio Shack here I come! I need all the wrenches and tape and paint you got.

At this point I don't think anyone cares anymore who is taking their phone back because there's no s-off or some random minor imperfection, and then starting a thread about it explaining why.
Ok, I can see how the post would read the way you took it. My point was more that the xda community is innovative, creative and curious. And when handcuffed by a bootloader, we find other avenues to fill the void. I think its cool as hell. Like kids trapped inside on a rainy day without their xbox. It wasnt a hurry up s-off rant. But it was an observation that some of this stuff is a lot more dangerous than flashing

[ZIP] [PORT] [WIP] HTC Puccini Leak

ikingblack presents.....
HTC Puccini System Leak
This is a HTC Puccini/Jetstream RUU which contains the system of the HTC Puccini. This cannot be flashed yet, but porting is in progress by me and some others in this thread. If you would like to help, post here or PM me.
Details:
This is a /system leak. In /system on an Android device, the core files and the OS is stored. Data is stored in /data, etc. Basically, when porting, you port /system. It is not as easy as it looks, and will take some time. Like I said earlier, if you would like to help port post here or PM me.
Update: The HTC Jetstream has officially been announced. It is $700... on contract. Fail. You can get yourself top of the line laptops with that money. So our goal is to take this and put it on our Flyers. I will post a schedule below so you know when I am working or not.
I am not available at these times:
6:00 AM GMT -6 through 4:00 PM GMT -6. This is for weekdays only.
I am available all day weekends.
I am sorry to say but I cannot always be porting. I am only 11 years old and need to do homework, study for tests, etc. Please do not treat me like a real dev either. I am a computer geek, know Visual Basic, and a lot of other stuff so I'm not a newb, but at the same time not a a person like Cyanogen.
Downloads:
So far all we have is the leaked ROM itself, here are the links:
Mirror 1
Mirror 2
Mirror 3, 4, 5, 6.
Credits:
@Gazalan for discovering the leak.
@egzthunder1 for posting this on the main page, thanks a lot!
@the_plattypus for providing me a mirror to the file.
@Football for originally leaking it.
Everyone else I forgot.

Yeah flashing a zip isn't the difficult part, it's the booting part
I capture the logcat on it all so I hope to go through it tonight. It would be easy if HTC would just release HC on it already.
any goodies that we see with this rom?
Awesome.. HC... WOW. Devs. all ya efforts shall not end up in vain. The dreams of flyer's owners shall come true. I guess is the beginning of a new Era making FLYER the Multi-tablet just like HTC HD2.

Wow! Can't wait... Puccini ROM ported over with ATT bloatware removed and rooted? Yes please!
To remove the bloatware isn't difficult.
But to port it is damn hard, because the puccini has another chipset than the flyer...
So far every time I download and open it it says its a corrupt zip.
I follow the flyer/express threads to check out whata foing on and see if there is anythong useful for my evo 4g express port. I can post a mirror of the puccini if ya'll want. Filefactory isnt the most stable to download from. I also have the system files deodexed, android kitchen 1.7 on my windows machine wont deodex it. Let me know. I wilk start it just in case

value could be a couple different things,to us:
1)downgrade if there was an explolit in older firmware
2)use it to sneek on the signed eng hboot by using that in the third step instead of an s-on ship hboot, then running an RUU with hboot removed to finish recovering the phone
id love to try it,but i dont have a linux machine and my linux skills are basically none
your thots?

Yeah, I am looking forward to Revolutionary or someone to make it a one click routine. That would be nice.
Interesting. If I were to guess, I would say that HBOOT unlocks something in order to prep for a flash of a PH98IMG.zip ... when you intentionally brick the phone by messing with the flashable file you've left it in an unlocked state, which you can take advantage of after rebooting by directly copying to the raw partition a bootable image. Obviously some knowledge of the underlying phone hardware is needed in order to find, modify, or build from scratch this bootable image and finding the proper partition into which it needs to be copied -- the directions in the linked thread are for a different phone and different code and probably different partition names would be required.
This may not even work on the Rezound.
And, I should add, the potential to permanently and irrevocably brick your phone is quite high.
It might work with the signed eng hboot. I would try it if I had a backup device. Hell if someone has one that is in terrible condition that is going to do an insurance claim reguardless, I would ask them to try it out. Or have me help them try it.
I'm gonna give this a shot. Worse thing that happens is, I go and buy another Rezound (or something else).

Yeah, I am looking forward to Revolutionary or someone to make it a one click routine. That would be nice.

Yeah- I remember how easy it was on the Incredible to root. Then on the Thunderbolt it was a little harder (for those who aren't comfortable with adp commands) and eventually a one-click process came up. Now, it would be great to have something like that on the Rezound and maybe, just maybe, be able to root without this big, ugly UNLOCKED / RE-LOCKED showing in H-Boot!

awww yeah! here's hoping for some positive results!!
was just going to post this last night. good luck guys!
For anyone that wants to try it
Start with the OTA PH98IMG.zip
Then swap with our shipped PH98IMG.zip
So you should be trying to go from Hboot 2.11 to 2.10
Then when in linux, recover with the signed eng hboot image we have.
After that, I would recommend using fastboot to turn secure flag off (assuming you didn't brick and it worked)
Then flash a homemade PH98IMG.zip with everything except hboot in it.
What should be done first is identify which emmc block hboot is before you start this process.
woah... if we have a "signed" eng HBOOT why cant we just flash it over the one we already have?

It's a lower version. So we need a downgrade like this to flash it

I'll pass everything in my paypal account to anyone who gets this. I think is like 60 or 70 dollars.

5 dollars isn't a lot but considering I'm paying for two new cars then I think its a lot for me :-D
And if more people donated to the dev even a few dollars can add up quickly

+1, I had this on my inc2 and love it. I purchased it then ended up getting my rezound about a month later. Hopefully the dev will ad the rezound to his list of supported device's now that we have s-off...

Nothing wrong with donating 5 dollars just starting a bounty thread with the payoff being 5 dollars is pretty funny.. just sayin

Ext4 is the file system that's supposedly faster than ext3....4ext recovery worked with both and could convert file systems I believe... If the kernel supports it I think....

I asked about it last week in the inc2 thread....said after he finished with requests he'd look into it....I mentioned rezound had s-off coming...which is now here....so I can only hope they add support.

Yeah, what is that?
I thought it was a faster type of file system or something.
It's a touch based (although there is a classic style) recovery system that allows for theming, an animation when backing up or restoring....and also can charge while running.....very sleek and with lots of options...I had it on my incredible2 works great....
Sent from my Rezound
I had read somewhere at some point that it was available as long as you had soff. I can't for the life of me remember where I seen that, but damn the luck... Now we have soff and I can't find where I found it. Hopefully the dev will pick up the rez pretty quick. Really loved that recovery...

HTC Rezound via TT2
Honestly, I want RZRecovery. Had that on my thunderbolt and it still is my favorite recovery. Backups and restores were incredibly fast in comparison to CWM, AR, TWRP. But I can't seem to even find a download for them anymore.
