UK service provider for 2 weeks? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hey all,
I'm travelling to England for a couple weeks and was wondering what service provider would offer the best pay-as-you-go SIM.
O2 has a reasonable 10 pounds for 500 sms and 100 mins, and an addon 500mb data for 6 pounds.
I'll be in Newbury for a few days then London the rest. I don't need a whole lot of talk time but sms and data is fairly necessary...
Any advice?

You might try asking in the international SGS2 forum. Since more of them are outside the US there are probably more people there familiar with the different UK carriers and who has the best deals.

Must specify your country!!

Yea really :/
Mine was 30EUR with a cheaper plan then I had on my X10, including a wireless headset.
I would consider it cheap for me
That's a very vague question to ask on an international forum...fill in your provider and country information, and try to be more specific...
also...
search is your friend!~

Here in Holland we get the phone for free with a contract, some people sell it straight away keeping their old phones. I got mine from someone like that for 320 euro, brand new without simlock

Sorry for the ambiguity, I'm in U.S. looking for an unlocked 3g/h+ android for at&t, and I think this is it. Just trying to see if there are deals I'm missing overseas as opposed to just buying it here on ebay for $6-700

The price is around 570 on ebay, and amazon.
You can also get it from expansys-usa for around 580 after coupon.
There are also couples of seller when you search it using google shopping, ranged from 530 to 550.
I would suggest you avoid Ebay at all costs when ordering this phone, because if you were to develop a problem with the device, you won't have a warranty as Sony doesn't recognize third-party sales.
Your best plan would be indeed to order it from an authorized retailer, in the rare case you end up with a screen problem.

[Q] EE Galaxy Note 2 running on O2

I am able to pay £100 next week and get a Galaxy Note 2 from EverthingEverywhere off my mums contract and give her my HSPA (she wont use 4G!) Galaxy S3.
I am wondering if it would be possible to get the Galaxy Note to work on O2. The Galaxy S3 is already unlocked so that wont be an issue!
Thanks
Steven Chorkley
Better off posting in note 2 forum.

Try searching for specialize on eBay. He unlocked my new s3 i9305 last night £10.95. Got unlock code back in 30mins. Check if he covers note 2, I know he covers most Samsung models
Thank you!!!!

...and I'm not sure even EE have gone live yet.
Once it is live, only sixteen cities in the UK will get 4g until the Spring of next year. I'm definitely and early adopter, but there's early and there's early!
EE went live over 2 weeks ago....

Although handsets are displaying EE this is only EEs 3G Network. 4G EE will be going live at the end of the month in 10 major cities followed by several more by the end of the year.
From Techrader Website:
The date sees the new EE brand "go live" alongside the super-fast mobile network, which will go live in ten cities around the country (London, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham).
EE says that Belfast, Derby, Hull, Nottingham, Newcastle and Southampton will also join the 4G line-up by the end of the year.
To all yes I realise that the galaxy note 2 won't work on o2 4g when it is released and I also understand that EE isn't live until the 30th.... the business model is in practice unil early next year!!
Thanks to all for the comments

My HTC Droid DNA abroad

Just sharing my experience with this phone as a global phone.
I nabbed myself a DNA before going to study abroad in London. The Verizon plan was hell to pay so I suspended my account -- $15 per 3 months -- and got a new SIM from giffgaff. Giffgaff gives me unlimited UK texts, unlimited 200+ kilobyte/sec internet, and 250 mins calling for 12 pounds a month. ~$18).
Setup was easy -- literally pop in the new SIM. No calling Verizon or anything. Was ready to go immediately and have had zero problems on the UK network. Reception is great everywhere except underground but hey what can you do.
Definitely recommend the phone for global use!
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Good to know. While I have no travel plans in the future, being a life long Verizon subscriber I've never actually had a capable "world phone" before (I had to buy an absurdly overpriced pre-paid dumb phone last year since my TB didn't work in Spain) so it's nice to know I do now!
what type of network coverage do you get 2g 3g or 4g from them
The UK only has one LTE network right now (EE), and I doubt they're on the same bands as Vzw. So it'll be 3G.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
I'm actually unsure what it is. I think it's like AT&Ts fake 4g (not LTE). I've seen it say "E," "3G," and usually it says "H."
Giffgaff uses the same network as O2. Verizon's whole thing over here I believe is Vodafone

Actually not Every carrier in Europe uses GSM and not CDMA what Verizon does. And afaik you don't have to call a GSM carrier

I thought the DNA didn't work internationally? Nearly got the Maxx instead of the DNA because amazon's comparison tool says the DNA doesn't work outside of the US/Canada.
Amazon is competely wrong then. It has gsm and cdma radios so it can work on any gsm network and it is already SIM unlock.

[CARRIER] In contract T-Mobile or Orange on i9300?

If you are on contract with T-Mobile or Orange and are sick of the network speeds and they ate doing nothing about it. I heard a little God today that give me some advice.
They will migrate you over to EE for 4g services.
How it works;
1 Visit EE shop
2 Take your i9300 with you
3 They will exchange it for i9305
4 You will enter into a new contract
I'm thinking of doing this but I will be asking the following questions;
1 Why are they actually doing this?
2 Is it a strict swap to i9305
3 Have I not paid for the phone already?
Obviously more questions will arise I will post back once I have been in store.
P.S This can only be done in store.

They could very well do this as a normal upgrade, in that case you will have to pay an early upgrade fee.
If they aren't they will be doing it to get everyone on their rip off LTE tariffs before they are heavily undercut (EE will charge more for 1GB when Three will charge £34 for unlimited data)

True was speaking to a UK operative last night who said everything would stay the same apart from my data would be 500mb! Ha, joke in today's modern society.

UK Network contract the phone was a gift or an inducement for you to take out the contract .
You owned the phone from day one .
A shrewd guess says you may get a new phone but will have to extend the contract or take a new one out .

here you go - the T&C's of the deal... http://help.ee.co.uk/system/selfser...ONE_OFFSET=&CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=27893
As I read it, you basically dont have to pay an early upgrade fee. I could be wrong.....
You will have to enter into a new minimum term on EE;
You can only sign up to a new minimum term on EE which is the same length or longer than your current minimum term on T-Mobile or Orange
You will have to pay any applicable upfront handset cost as part of your new plan on EE; and
can only swap to 4GEE from consumer plans on T-Mobile or Orange if you have the iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy SIII, HTC One X or Blackberry 9900. You can swap to eligible 4G phones which can be found on our website. (Please note, as part of the swap to EE, you will be required to pay the upfront handset cost as part of your new plan on EE).
Old unit .
The handset must be in perfect, working condition and be capable of being switched on. We will not accept handsets that do not turn on or are damaged; that have cracked or scratched screens; or that have cracks to the device casing. Our retail staff will decide whether to accept your phone based on its condition and their decision is final

EEs plans still cost too much, I cannot justify the increased cost except to rip people off and laugh when they are forced to drop their prices due to competition.

Yep, I entirely agree with you Delsus. Plus, where I live, 4G won't be available for a long time to come and I'm very rarely somewhere where I can't get a wifi signal....
Doesn't appeal to me personally.

I wouldn't mind 4g but I would wait until it comes to Three, they have announced they will charge no more for a 4g service, all you need is a 4g phone and you can access their 4g on any plans. Whether they will have PAYG sims that work on 4g is a different matter though.

This is what I'm waiting for and hope that they are going to roll it out soon.
EE sucks! Orange is sloooow and have bad reception since EE launched, problems, problems.... No thanks! Even if they pay me for using it I'll say NO!
I've got i9305 hooked up with 3 - The One Plan (DL up to 25Mbps!!) so I'm ready for it and just hope to get real 4G (50Mbps+) in same price. My second contract is with Orange but happily it's about to end. In June swapping to Three as well....
Am with t- mobile but when on orange network my Internet soooo sloooow.., it's absolute disgrace. Tried cancelling my Contract (9mnts) left but they won't have it.
What are the options? I was thinking of 3 network also...

Your options are to pay up your existing contract in full .But first ask the network for a settlement figure to end the contact .
